Comments of Stalactites Restaurant
D.
Stalactites is an iconic Greek restaurant with classic Greek dishes and a unique dining room experience with stalactites hanging from the ceiling (hence the name). The coffee was okay and food were generally pricey for its portion but delicious. Their meat platters are a must-try!
S. L.
Had a three to share meat platter which is more than enough even for four of us. Taste good as well. The herbed snapper was delicious too! Pita bread is fresh. The calamari is nothing special. But the Feta spinach pastry was really yummy too! Had a bottle of dry red wine wasn't bad too!
S. L.
Note that portions are huge. Four of us ordered a meat platter for 3, pita bread, small calamari, spinach pastry and a fish. We had a good amount of leftovers. The fish and spinach pastry was delicious. Meat platter was also great. Highlight of the platter for us is the chicken which was perfectly seasoned and tender. Sausages were also tasty.
E. B.
Initial service was fast, however one menu item was forgotten. Calamari was cooked well (heavy handed in parts on the seasoning). Beef Kokinisto was delicious my daughter was impressed with rice and potatoes as well. Meat was some what dry and no pita bread offered with dips (or suggested to purchase). **Downstairs indoor dining not suitable for children with sensory sensitivity.**

Look, pretty cool spot and decent food. Certainly wasn't blown away but it was a solid experience with reasonable prices and good customer service. Guess it's worth visiting even just for its reputation and renown, but don't go with sky-high expections. It's good without being amazing.

Finally I got an opportunity to dine in.
Overall is very good ( experience, food, and services)
I had no idea what to order, only wanted to have some meat and the waitress helped and suggested what to order.
I got mix meat platter; comes with salad and chips, entree which also recommended by the waitress, and pita with dip. All dishes are delicious and very satisfying. I feel like I want to try some more dishes here next time.

Amazing Greek food in Melbourne CBD. Found it a bit pricey at first but the portions were quite generous. Food was delicious and fresh. Will definitely visit again to satisfy Greek food cravings!
N. C.
Stalactites is a well located Greek restaurant in Melbourne CBD. They have a great menu with a wide variety of traditional dishes. The portion sizes were large and we would love to head back to try more.
r. c.
Awesome thoroughly enjoyable and great food. home made dips with soft warm pita is a must try. family of five all left completely stuffed
S. ..
Amazing food. The upstairs is slightly better seating. We had about a 20 minutes wait to get the seating and another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. However, it was worth the wait. The daily selection of lamb was beautiful. So tender and flavourful. The desserts are lovely too. His Royal Highness Sir Widdle Waddle thoroughly enjoyed the kalamari platter (in photo).

One of the first meals out of lockdown.
Good service, good food and decent priced.
The food came out quick as well. Which I really liked.
Generous servings.
Get in, have a bite. Get out.
They only have limited tables.
I didn’t want to hog their tables.
They hard declined entry to someone that was not vaccinated. The person was arguing but the waiter stood firm.
That itself is worth the 5 star rating.

This place always delivers the goods at any hour of the day when you are in the city
We've been here for years and it's always busy, always thriving. Can get camped, but worth it after a night out or just dinner
Some great staff some not so much, but not a worry food comes fast, hot and flavorsome
A. B.
I ordered the platter for one, it took a long time to come while my friend was already half way her souvlaky. The wait was worth it though because the platter was really good and generous.
The galaktoboureko was a bit frozen but good portion.
T. H.
Quick service, short wait, and delicious meats with salads.
Glad we waited in line for it! Was one of the best meals I've had in Melbourne.
I. D.
I thought the vegetariam souvlaki was done excellently but unfortunately it was so large I couldn't finish it! What a problem to have :) The atmosphere is very lively and Jan was super helpful. Really appreciated her help and she makes a mean iced coffee! The place is also gluten-free certified so if you have any celiac friends, they should feel more comfortable. Overall, quite a nice place and will come again.

This used to be my usual place for Greek food when living in CBD for 3 years and also when I moved to the west I drive down for takeaways.
Unfortunately, the food isn't as tasty as it used to be. I feel a lack of care and quality in the making in the past one year when they were mostly open for takeaways and not dine-in.
Got a takeaway yesterday 17 Sep 2021 and both chicken and lamb from the spit were bad. One of the mix dips also tasted funny. The lamb was cut into large chunks with little to no flavour. Very disappointed especially when you pay a premium and expect the food to be good. It's been always a hit or miss over a year now.
K. U.
Excellent. Had the Greek Salad, Appetizer for one, and the Lamb Souvlaki and was plenty/ just right for two! Fun ceilings that look like stalactites.
S. S.
Been here second time, my all time favourite goto place when visiting Melbourne. Their souvlaki’s are the best so far. Must try is their 3 dips with peta bread(option of gf available).
K.
Loved the food. The bean soup, and main course items were all good. Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner.
P. A.
Really liked their food and service. Chicken was cooked to perfection.. Worth visiting
M. R.
We had a nice evening. The food was amazing, meat was well cooked and well presented. We would definitely visit again.
C. M.
These souvlakis got us through lockdown! Great flavour and generously packed with meat, and we love the seasoning on the chips. We had an equally good experience when we dined in, food quality was still great and the service was attentive and quick. We loved the atmosphere of the restaurant too, with literal stalactites hanging from the roof. Will definitely be back to taste the rest of the menu.
j.
Great Greek restaurant! Quick service, friendly staff and yummy food. Sufficient quality and quantity, highly recommended 👍
B. T.
This would have to be the best kebab I have every had. The meat, sauce, filling, salad, the whole lot was amazing. My wife had the vegi option and my son had the chicken/lamb plate. We were full for hours. For the 3 of us it was $100, which might seem a little steep but I would be happy to pay again. Sorry no photos.
C. B.
I've been dining here for years and always enjoyed the Souvlaki although recently I've found them to be just OK, nothing special and had better more recently. I also tried some other dishes and was not impressed. The trio of dips are lovely though, if that's any consolation.
M. T.
Price: 7/10
Food: 9/10 (delicious, kebabs like taste, 10/10 chips perfect seasoning)
Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 9/10
G. L.
Great Greek restaurant. Fast service, tasty food and affordably priced. Cool decor and the staff are friendly. Had a gyros with chips and moussaka special. Seating also upstairs. Sometimes have to queue at times at busy times. Take away option is also popular
S. D. (.
So much food in the banquet! Easily feeds more than four people, and everything was so tasty. It was a busy night but they were organised and got our very large order sorted a short wait after the designated time, no problems at all.
J. F.
Really good place for a family meal. I highly recommend the meat platter for 1,2-4 to even 12!!! Really good value and leaves you full! I suggest a sweat red wine 🍷 to go with it. And I would also recommend a “galaktoboureko” for dessert.
f.
Okay greek food but basically a high takeaway quality rather than restaurant. The sausages were a bit greasy and just taste like store bought.
The moussaka was dry and salty with otherwise bland tasting mince. I would have expected a bit more flavour.
L. J.
The biggest yeeros wrap I have ever had. Could easily share between 2 people.
The PITA home made PITA bread was 5/5, just beautiful. However, it was just very bland. Would be nice to have some flavour or sauce.
But I still would highly recommend to try something else.
We were too full to try anything else.
It was packed but still attentive.
D. B.
The best Greek food I have ever had. And the staff were amazing 👏
N. I.
Good food, good service, everyone was really nice! Food was very filling, my friend and I got a souvlaki each and a bowl of chips and barely finished it all. We got in almost immediately, but by the time we were leaving (around 1pm) there was a line out the front. Walk ins for groups smaller than 6.
N. S.
This place is amazing! Their menu is very diverse and has way more than just souvlaki! I very much enjoyed the home cook style dishes that they had. Cabbage rolls... who would have thought they could be so yummy! The service was also very quick and friendly. Finding a parking spot could be a challenge but it's worth it!
E. M.
I love Stalactites and always have. Not only is the food delicious and reasonably priced, the customer service is absolutely spot-on. We came on a Wednesday night to fill our stomachs with some great Greek food. We ordered the mixed lamb and chicken platter with Greek salad and chips. We also ordered pita bread and tzatziki dip. The flavours were so good and the meat from the spit was just divine. The waiters and workers at the restaurant were consistently friendly and frequently said ‘thank you for coming’ and ‘how is the food?’, which made us feel very welcome and appreciated. I will definitely be back for more! No complaints! (And not even the sharp stalactites hanging precariously on the ceiling will scare us away!)
Update: I came back to Stalactites and once again thoroughly enjoyed the food, this time ordering the mixed gyro platter and spanakopita. Thank you for the consistently excellent service and delicious Greek food.
B. J. v. R.
Food was good. Service friendly. I would have given it an extra star if waiters were trained not to lean over my food to reach the other side of the table.
I. P.
Great service from Paris and the team! Amazing food, and plenty of (coeliac accredited!) gluten free options. So glad to see the proceeds of the Tsitsipas special going to beyond blue. Keep it up guys 💙
O. K.
Stalactites continues to be a staple for Greek food in Melbourne.
Dining on a quiet Monday lunch, the Beef Kokkinisto and Mixed Souvlaki were exactly what they should be. Tasty, filling, and with plenty of that classic Greek flavour. The Kokkinisto even came with complimentary bread and butter to enjoy every last bit of the flavourful tomato sauce.
The manager/owner was on floor and a delight, as well. He as attentive to our experience and made sure we were happy.
The food isn't crazy expensive, either. Pretty reasonable for around $35 for two meals.
Easily a strong recommendation to anyone in the CBD.
B. V. (.
Absolutely incredible.
After being disappointed by greek food in the past I was hesitant to try however, Stalactites has renewed my faith in Greek food
Everything was so fresh, perfectly seasoned, the lamb melted in your mouth and the Pita is unlike any I've ever had!
Highly recommended!
R. M.
Great Greek food! The meat was juicy and delicious! Service was good! The dips were excellent! Lots of seating. Nice place!
M. K.
Had dinner here last night. The place is open till 2am and was a 2 min walk from our hotel so made it super convenient!
We had the mixed grill and vegetarian appetiser platter.
The lamb and chicken were halal but the restaurant isn’t halal certified. The servers were incredibly helpful in letting us know about what we can and cannot eat based on halal dietary restrictions. Would’ve never guessed the pita bread would be problematic because it’s heated on the same grill as non-halal meat. But the gluten free option was good to eat and great with the dips!
A. P.
I went their on Sunday 25th april 2021
I got my food with in 5 minutes when I made the order.
It usually takes times, food seemed not fresh as the chicken and lamb both were a bit hard from over-frying/fried to many times to make it fresh.
I always loved the restaurant but was disappointed this time.
Might have to find another joint for kebab now.
Cant take a risk of spending more then $50 and not having good food.
이.
Nice food. Very noisy due to busyness.
Service was good but just too slow.
I heard same negative reviews from a few of my friends which was "meat was very dry"
So we were a little nervous if the meat from our platter is also dry
All of them were very delicious.
No wonder line is always long.( I was always curious how good it will be)
Nothing further to say.
Just good but busy
H.
Mixed gyro ($35), pita bread ($2.50), hommus ($6)

I get down to Melbourne every 6 months and it’s amazing how much the price has increased here over the last few years. Despite some really outstanding dishes, I don’t think the meals warrant the higher price. The place is always so busy which is fantastic and it gives a real buzz to the place but the food is just okay. They’ve even removed pickled octopus 🐙 from the menu - what a pity 😅
D. V.
Tasty food for a very reasonable price. Service overall was really good except the wait on the actual food coming to the table from the point of ordering.
To note, it was busy but the wait was still long.
S. Y.
I love this restaurant. It's 24 hours so you can go at anytime when hunger hits you, be it for lunch, after hours clubbing or after work which is my usual scenario, for the best souvlaki, lamb being my personal fave, open recommended, Greek salad, dolmas, all their dips, pita bread and the grilled cheese... the list goes on!! Oh, don't forget the wine. Lovely service and delicious food everytime!! Definitely a must try!!

An Iconic Greek Restaurant deservedly & rightly so.
Since the late 1970s my Family & Relatives and also my Fiancee and his Family - the Vasiliou's, the Georgious's, the Papadimitriou's, have enjoyed many incredibly delicious meals at Stalactites Greek Restaurant on La Trobe Street. Most recently I have been choosing the Take-Out option. The Take Out Orders are meticulously & securely wrapped and packaged with such love and special care - Its truely beautiful. I love the restaurants branded paper napkins very thick, absorbent & very good quality, which is very handy for me because I am so sloppy when I eat my Souvlaiki's.
It's like unwrapping a Christmas present. You know that you are in for a special treat. When that door opens to enter into the restaurant the incredibly delicious smell from the food hits you straight away. Your senses go into overdrive. I literally begin to salivate.
The fresh succulent Lamb - which melts in your mouth - Souvlaki is our favourite. The Onions & tomatoes are Fresh, includes generous lashings of tzatziki which is a perfect consistency and smooth blend of ingredients. It's all wrapped up in the best homemade pita bread, light, crispy and so fluffy. They Fries are yummy too, seasoned with Pepper and another seasoning that just the best. It's so brilliant to see customers support such a wonderful restaurant. You will see enthusiastic customers showing their loyalty and support by queueing along Latrobe to . All the staff are hard working, genuinely lovely, friendly, good & decent down to earth people who thoroughly love what they do and are eager to please their customers. It's a happy, enjoyable place be. May Stalactites restaurant, which is run professionally, continue to prosper. While I wait for my order to be prepared, It's an absolute visual treat to be able to view all the incredibly deliciously fresh meat as the Chefs cook and prepare the meals. When the Chefs call out my order number to pick up my take out its like I have just won tatslotto. I know that I am going to be chowing down on the best Souvlaki ever. Bless them.
b. b.
Excellent food served by brilliant and attentive staff. Great selection of food at very reasonable prices, do yourself a treat and make a reservation...you won't regret it.
S. F. &. O.
During feeding times, expect long lines, but that's about the only thing bad about this place.
The servers are friendly, although some have difficulty speaking English fluently.
The food is excellent. Lamb is superbly seasoned and grilled perfectly. And the breads are devine.
Don't expect fancy dishes or cutlery...or presentation...just expect great food...
W. B.
It's a Melbourne institution, not much has changed...out dated interior, old decor and the stalactite based ceiling just needs to go but the Greek food is still beautiful and the staff very friendly and welcoming
J. H.
Really loved the food here today don't hesitate just go I didn't go the souvlaki went for slow cooked beef with rice and potato , just lovely check out the photos
A. H.
Tasty but expensive. When I order for pickup it always feels like they're making it after I arrive rather than for when I arrive. And the "must sight the credit card" thing is annoying. If you're in the inner west go to Brotherhood Gyros
B. U.
Stopped by after an all-day tour for a late dinner, around 2300. It was still surprisingly still quite busy but mostly for takeaway. If you head in a bit then there is a sign to wait if you wanted to have a sit-down meal.
They have their standard menu as well as a special menu, which was mostly crossed out when I stopped by. They did have quite a lot of different choices but ended up going with the mixed grill to try and get a taste of everything. The plate was stacked with food. Plenty of meat accompanied with nicely fried chips and a Greek salad. the chicken skewers and the lamb cutlets all had that smoky, BBQ taste to them like they were fresh off the grill. The lamb giro was tender and juicy and the bifteki was interestingly spiced. I tried the galaktoboureko for dessert and it was alright. The pastry wasn't crispy anymore but he custard filling was quite nice.
It is a nice place for a meal. It was kinda busy so you can get forgotten, so you might need to flag people if you needed something else after you've been served.
C. W.
Fast, no nonsense service with authentic delicious food (Souvlaki wraps - like kebab sandwiches are their signature). When busy, you have to wait in line but queues move quickly. The only bummer was the dessert - the baklava was a different, gooey texture than the crispy ones I am used to. For desserts, I'd suggest heading to the Greek pastry cafe next door instead.
A. g.
Recently out of reviews tried this place. After a 15 min Queue got inside and the waiter seated us. Ordered a whole lot of items & must say that the chicken was amazing. Very tender nicely grilled with awesome selection of dips and the smooth warm Pita bread was tempting. Also terrific and quick service. A 100% must recommended place ..!
N. D.
The best Greek I've had in years. Lovely staff. Reasonably priced, super clean and great portions. A must of you like Greek food
J. S.
Lovely Greek restaurant with an extensive menu. We were after something cheap and cheerful and got some souvlakis which were great. Packed full and the bread was tasty! Can't fault the service and the food came incredibly quick. Will definitely return to try some of their other dishes soon.
B. G.
This has become a tradition: we never miss an opportunity to dine at Stalactites whenever we hit Melbourne, and it never fails! No photos as we just devoured it all! Saganaki, Melitzanosalata, Pita, Chicken & Lamb Souvla. Superb! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I. I.
I simply love this place. Every time I have a good experience there. Food is delicious, service is good and very efficient. Not too pricey. Try the lamb gyros and baklava for dessert. So yummy.
C. C. G.
Serve great Greek food in the city. Accessible by tram in the free tram zone.
I like dining on level 1 (1st floor) cause I'm able to look out the window (window view) and look at the people (or vehicles) as they pass-by. I have a clear picture of city centre area.
Never been to Greece but the food is delicious. Post a few photos of the meaty dishes to share.
E. K.
The most famous Greek restaurant in Melbourne CBD that open for 24 hours. The souvlaki is great and often have queues for takeaway. All the meat in the platter, souva and sausages are juicy, moist, and very tasty. Service is also quick and friendly.
Food - 9
Service - 8
Vibe - 8
Price - $$$
S. B.
One of the best Greek restaurants i have been to. Staff is attentive and friendly. Service was fast and food was great. The meat platter was done perfectly. The only weird thing was.. The men's washroom! I entered and found no urine bowls but only thrones.. I rushed outside to check if I have been to a place where no man has ever been to.. Silly me.. Why am I even writing this..?
L. C. K.
Quick and delicious. Had a very quick turn around time from entering the restaurant to running off to see a show.
Wait staff are very knowledgeable about Coeliacs and asked questions to make sure we were aware of what was and wasn't GF.
S. T.
About the ambience - good place but seems a little cramped up with tables too close to each other. Also it was very noisy.
Food - not sure about the main course but we ordered mainly desserts. Everything was just average
rice pudding - seemed less cooked
Homemade creme caramel - too sweet
Galaktoboureko - this was my first try and hence cannot compare it.
Overall average experience.
Q. M.
This spot doesn’t have the best food but it has a pretty great range at affordable prices. There are plenty of vegetarian and even vegan options but it’s the fact that it’s open 24 hours (and serves all day coffee!!) that makes it a true gem. I recently tried the veg fritter souvlaki which wasn’t my favourite as it wasn’t well flavoured but I can vouch for the spanakopita and veg platter. Bonus points that they’re on Liven, so you can get credit back with every meal.
W. C.
It's my husband's fav Greek restaurant. And they have the best Gyros in Melbourne. The bean soup tastes like borscht, however, we were not impressed by the fish soup. Good service. Love this place.
J. H.
Sausage is really nice. Grilled meat taste very well. Pita soft and tasty. Salad is fresh, oil is delicious but dont really enjoy feta inside.
Fish soup is also tasty but a little bit too salty. Burger I dont know if they do this intentionally, smells bad like expired food.
C. B.
Had dinner here with some friends. It was busy, however the service was good and our food came out relatively quickly. We ordered dips, pita, meat platter and a couple of salads. With drinks the total was $250, for 6 people it was on the expensive side. The food was OK, nothing to rave about, probably worth a visit.
F. W.
Awesome food, reasonable prices. We had a great night apart from the tables being a bit close together, the party behind kept pushing against our chairs, slightly annoying but we still had an awesome night and will definitely go back again
S. W.
Definitely the best Greek restaurant I've ever been to.
Portion is large and foods are absolutely delicious.
I love moussaka more than anything else. The cheesy gravy flavour is perfect.
If only they can toast the bread before serving I would pay a visit every single day.
M.
Amazing Greek food in the cbd. You know you’re in for a treat when the restaurant is packed and everyone is smiling and having a good time. Delicious Greek food, fantastic staff. Will be back 👍
P. P. B.
Platters and Lamb giro platter was very good.
K. L. S.
Heard a lot about this place and decided to try it out for myself. Moderately crowded for Sunday brunch. Ordered a Meat Platter for 2 ($50), Greek Salad ($15) and a bread. The Meat Platter was HUGE! More than enough to feed 3 persons. The chicken kebabs skewers were my favorite, well grilled on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. Next on my favorite was 2 lamb racks; meat was tender and flavorful without being too salty. The Greek Salad was nice but a tad too many olives, in my opinion. Lastly the bread was warm and soft, not too firm. Went perfectly to balance the savory meats. No more room in the tummy for dinner that night.
S. K.
Beautiful food. The tzatziki dip and pita bread were truly amazing. A thriving atmosphere.
A. L.
Amazing staff and food! Saw them at the Aus Open and they were delight to deal with :) Cannot speak highly enough of these guys!
K. W. T.
Ordered the beef casserole, pork oregano and calamari. The beef and pork were really good and the portion was decent as we ordered size E instead of M. Calamari to me is the best as the portion is big and the calamaris are really soft and tender. Definitely a must order in this restaurant. Queue is long on dinner times but it moves pretty fast and the staffs are really friendly and attentive as well. Thumbs up for this Greek restaurant 👍🏻
J.
First time with my wife at stalactites restaurant. We both really enjoyed our meal. Plenty to eat. Very filling. Staff were good also. Will go back again.
A. F.
Was told by my friend that I should try this place out. Therefore, I went in and ordered the Lamb Giro Souvlaki. The lamb was just nice and the souvlaki inside it compliments the lamb nicely. I ordered the mocha as well and it was decent, no complaints whatsoever.
The plus point for this place is the ambience and I would say it is pretty unique. In addition, it is 24 hours. Pretty sure it is convenient for the locals to grab something late night here.
P. P.
Souvlaki and chips are really tasty but are slightly under-salted. Add a bit more salt and it'll be 5/5.
A. S.
Second visit and loved it even better. Serves Greek food, open till late night, great menu, friendly staff and very well priced. I don't think it gets any better than that.
O. B.
Food was amazing! Best customer service I have ever had by Paris you were so passionate about your job and such a great human being! Keep up that great service we will be back for you 👌
L.
Best Greek restaurent in Melbourne, I love this place as you always get good quality food and you get what you pay for.
Quality Greek food and the best staff, highly recommend Lamb souvlaki as always big and more meat that other place
Had meat platter for 2, the meat quality was fantastic
All credit cards welcome including AMEx 👍🏽
R. L.
Great friendly service.
Loved the food.
A. W.
Beautiful Greek food. Would definitely recommend a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed the meat, although I would recommend not overlooking their squid as it was incredible. Ample serving sizes of this great food!
Y. B.
It was my bday, we decided to have dinner at Stalactites. OMG I can't still remember the taste of chicken, it was so delicious. And they have good options for vegetarians as well. I will highly recommend to try this Greek food. Looking forward to visit soon.
Thank you.
J.
you will be left feeling way too full. Amazing meal for 2 and came in under $50. We were both very satisfied with the portions and flavour.
Authentic Greek food and service. The Souvlaki was exceptional, albeit a bit messy toward the end.
Thanks!
P. D.
Great food and staff very freindly. The Match is where just beautiful good serve and a much better chip than I have had at other restaurants. The other dish was Lamb ribs, where to die for, the meat just fell off the bone and a small amount of seasonings that didn't over power the meat taste. Would go back any time.
N. S. P.
Firstly, the service was decent, not amazing. We had initially wanted to order the baked calamaris on the special menu but while the waitress was taking note of this, she struck out the dish on the menu with a pen and hesitantly stated that it was unavailable. Even though we were slightly surprised by the impoliteness, we went ahead to change our order. While the pita bread and mixed dips from the starters amazed us, the chicken meatballs from the special menu were lacklustre. It tasted like microwaved airplane food - mashy and bland. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes and will come back again to order other dishes and review this review.
C. M.
Cool atmosphere in the heart of Melbourne city with authentic very tasty Greek food. Love love love the hummus here! Great service and lovely food.
G. B.
It's more then amazing, it's stalactites.. Great food, amazing recipe. Sadly was way too busy when we visited and didn't get the full awesomeness but will be sure to visit at a quieter time
T. L.
The lamb souvlaki here is great and will fill you up. The chips I ordered also arrived fresh and hot which is awesome 👌
S. R.
It's a Goto place where you are in groups and the options are a lot . I liked the meat and seafood platters . Further simply you can Goto have the different dips and pita break .A place not to be missed
C. M.
Thought the lamb souvlaki was a great portion and very tasty with tender meat. The vegetarian plate was also tasty to share. Staff was very friendly and nice. We thought the prices were a little high.

Average to poor service (sides came 15 mins later than mains and my drink didn’t come at all - refunded).
Lamb Giros Souvlaki was ok but most Adelaide fish and chip stores make the just as good. Much better than the kebab equivalent in Melbourne fast food stores though.

After 9 months away from Melbourne what a joy to eat at stalactites again. Great souvlaki. Friendly efficient staff. Window seat. Excellent.
V. R.
Not an ordinary restaurant, but an absolute institution of Greek food.
Eat anything here and you will leave completely satisfied.
The seasoned chips are absolutely addicting and are a cult classic!
T. A.
Greek food at its best🇬🇷!!! Great food,so many choices and friendly service as always, a great place to eat!!!!
T. N.
A very good chicken souvlaki! Generous filling, delicious sauces and freshly baked pita bread. Service was also efficient and friendly. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me!
A. G.
Although the meal was somewhat rushed in when food was delivered, there was no pressure to eat quickly or leave soon. Excellently prepared and very delicious.

Very pleseant experience.
We walked in there at 3:30 am and we found a warm place filled with staff that was helpful and happy to serve us, infact when i asked for GF options they showed me all the options which were also indicated in the menu with a GF at the end of the GF meals. They were fast taking the order and fast making it. The menu is very vaste but well explained. My choice was a lamb Souvlaky with a GF pita bred. The Souvlaky was incredibly filled with goodness, the meat tender, juicy, tasty not too salty. The sauce not overpowering the other flavours, the greens fresh. I enjoyed very much the pita bred, the consistency, the thickness and the flavour were so similar to a normal one that I couldn't almost tell it was GF. I suggest you try this next time you want t Souvlaky done with love. Also available on Uber eat.
C. D.
Excellent authentic Greek meal. We ordered the meat platter for 2, and shared with 4 people. Meat was delicious! The moussaka was tasty, but on the cheesy side. Price was fair for the amount of food recieved, would definitely recommend.
T.
Great popular lively place . It's been an institution in Melbourne for souvlaki . There's usually a wait but we'll worth it. Recently decorated. Prices are reasonable.
Q. L.
Expensive food is what first comes to mind. food in kids menu are somewhere between $20 - $25 and for adults, its much much more. However, if you compare the quantity, plate for kids has more food in it than for adults. Taste wise, its good but not worth the price you are paying.
T. D.
The one staff member didn't seen like he wanted to be there. Huge piece of baclava and nice iced chocolate however.
J. T.
Lovely service and amazing food!! Top voted for a reason. Never misses a beat. Would recommend to anyone
M. T. L.
Great food. Very nice Authentic Greek style dishes. Very nice broad menu. Always great daily specials. Open 24/7 so convenient. Always quick service. Great value for authentic dishes. Highly recommended
F. K.
Nice food, good vibe.
A. M.
Had the Lamb Souvlaki and chips with diet coke eat in. Absolutely delicious and so filling . Staff are ever so friendly . This will be a regular place to visit for sure
A. P.
The food was good and yum!! Probably the best greek food I have had. But a bit costly so keep that in mind.
E. T.
Easily has one of the best souvalki. It’s not my first time, but most of the time if you go to the peak hours, there’s waiting on the line which doesnt take long. That’s the only downside with it too that it can get rushed and feel less relaxed. Food is top notch with one of the better dips. Chicken on skewers were cooked perfectly and other meat seasoned well.
M. G.
Fantastic service and great food, love that it's Ceoliac (GF) friendly! Very excited and not disappointed! Love the styling too.
A. S.
Best Greek cuisine in Melbourne served up in a quirky limestone cave themed dining space. The restaurant is an institution having been there for several years and a must go every time I visit Melbourne.
S. C.
Could argue that it’s the best souvlaki in Melbourne. Long opening hours, the food is great. A little on the expensive side. A Melbourne institution.
T. S.
Food: We had the mixed grill. Marinated chicken on a skewers, lamb cutlet, rissole, chips, salad extra pita bread on the side plus some beer to wash it a down.
Staff: very friendly service, mixed grill takes 25mins to make.
Rating 5/5
O. B. T.
Average tasting Greek food, with overpriced menu items and below average portion. Place is very packed during a Friday night with no air circulation or ventilation almost feels like a sauna inside.
E. Q.
Busy Greek restaurant in the heart of Melbourne CBD. Waiters were quick to take our order but the food took a while to come out. Ordered the appetizer plate for two and found it was more than enough for the both of us. Chicken souvlaki was very moist and tender and the sausages were delicious, lamb was a tad bit dry as was the beef rissole.
S. C.
Omg I’ve been in Melbourne 2 years n No one told me about this !!! So amazing so big so in my mouth 👄....
Best souvlaki in town
Seriously the best best in Town
Fresh n tasty 😋

Read the review and decided to go there.
Food so so, maybe i ordered something that not to my liking, i am sure there are other menu that should be better.
Place was very crowded during dinner time.
A. M.
This place blew me away. First off, some context - 11pm on a Tuesday night. We went out for food and I was expecting half decent food, but ended up getting a delicious meal with incredible service. The staff were friendly, efficient and formulaic; aside from immediate water service, they had the courtesy to ask how our meals are going during and after (the little things make a big difference). At that time I was expecting the food to be half decent, but I got some incredible food that would give a lot of green restaurants a run for their money, and it came out really fast. The environment is both unique and spacious enough, and the convenience of it being 24hours cannot be emphasised enough. This was my first visit, but definitely not my last - Loved it!
M. R.
Very busy but well worth it, upstairs is more chill and relaxed, great to spend a few hours with share plates and drinks. Breads and dips are fantastic.
L. D. F.
The place looks nice and the food was AWESOME. If you go there, try it at 5 pm, there are plenty of people wanting to entre after 8.
A. M.
Good souvlakis, nice spicy sausage and pretty good hummus.
R. Y.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, excellent food. It was busy but the ambience is great.

It's a Goto place where you are in groups and the options are a lot . I liked the meat and seafood platters . Further simply you can Goto have the different dips and pita break .A place not to be missed

Review said this is top 3 greek restaurant in melb. Tried the home made dish - pork meatball and spaghetti/rice/bread, salad, and the mixed meat platter with pita bread (lamb and chicken). They're all right.
I didn't think it was magnificent or something maybe bc I am so used to having food with sauce. Hence the food there taste a bit plain somehow. Then again, thought that greek is supposed to be healthy and plain.
Service is excellent.
R. M.
Lovely souvlaki and great value. The chips were some of the best we've ever eaten!
F. A.
Great location and institution for Greek restaurant along Lonsdale street . Food is nice just expected greater quantity for what we paid .
G. M.
First time in a few years. As good as ever. Hearty Greek Food served quickly with delicious Greek house wine. Easy eating’ reasonable prices.
G. P.
Food is excellent waiting for take away 1 hour toooo long
A. S.
Great food and service, definitely would visit again
R. J.
Excellent authentic Greek food. Very good portions and spacious for prams.
M. L.
Food is great and servings are beyond generous. The bowl of chips is not for one! Recommend the mixed souvlaki. The lamb in it is so tender! Add extra $1 to get an open souvlaki if you have an appetite.
D. D.
Open 24 hours; great place if you want to experience Greek food; will need to try breakfast next time
S. M.
Superb food. Friendly and helpful staff. The vegetarian platter actually outdid the non vegetarian mixed grill in our opinion. A must visit!!
D. M.
Very busy and excellent food. One of Melbourne's best Greek restaurants.
V. M.
Best Souvlaki in Melb. Delicious Creek foods in town. But service was bad, I think the waiter was from India and I was there waiting at the sign to be serve and he was just standing only 2 metres away doing absolutely nothing, and I've to call him 3 times. While my takeaway was ready on the counter for a few minutes. I saw my takeaway was ready at the counter but no one call out and I have to ask him about my order twice and tell me to wait. I don't see the place that busy at around 4pm. This waiter need to put a smile on his face and provide your good customer service while on the job.
T. C.
Stalactites is what makes Lonsdale st the Greek hotspot of Melbourne. 24/7 Greek restaurant that has consistently made great food for as long as its been there. I've personally know of the place for 10 years now and have visited multiple times. This time I went for a nice work lunch. $21 for the platter and it was fantastic, it comes with 1 pita bread. They also have a vegetarian option. I recommend this over the Slovakis anytime. The only problem I have is when it gets really busy, service drops off a bit but as expected.
f. t.
Ordered the mixed gyro with pita bread and dips. Gyro was beautifully wrapped, lamb was tender and chicken was juicy. Good combination of flavours with the Tzatziki. I can imagine this is the proper way of making gyros!! The pita bread alone was delicious, and the dips takes it to the next level. Simple but a remarkable meal done right.
D. H.
Thanks to all the staff, especially Paris, for looking after us. Food was so good we visited 3 times in 2 days!!
J. C.
Ordered the cabbage rolls, got completed by the next table over that I "knew how to order." Tasted bad, regretted not ordering the meat.
K. M.
Service was good but the food has no flavor, I think they boil the meat because it doesn't have the smokey flavor.
M. M.
Ordered the GRILLED CHICKEN FILLET SOUVLAKI and the LAMB SOUVLA ON SKEWER. The food was really good. Will surly go back to try other items on the menu.
C. H.
Probably my all time favourite place to eat in Melbourne. Have been going here for 30 years ......
H. R.
Absolutely love this place!! Our go to place in the night when everything else is closed!! Yummy food & friendly staff. Definitely give it a try!
A. d.
There is a lot of taste food with great atmosphere to spend time with your love one.Feeling happy😘
R. A.
Very busy and crowded so not recommended for a quiet romantic dinner. Highly recommend for the traditional Greek food. I'm a repeat visitor and when I can drag myself away from my favourites I'm definitely not disappointed. Child friendly with the best Greek food. You really are doing yourself a favour to eat at this restaurant.
J. C.
This lamb yiouvetsi is to die for 😍 will definitely go back. Lots of chairs, space, good food and fast service. Prices not too bad either. Will recommend!
T. C.
Food is delicious and pretty authentic here. We came for an early dinner and so we missed out on having to wait in line.
Took away 1 star as we found it quite difficult to grab servers attention, a few customers even had to walk up to the counter/a staff member to be able to order. Food came very quickly! Bathroom is clean 🧼
A. M.
Good souvlakis, nice spicy sausage and pretty good hummus.
G. R.
The food was mediocre, the drinks are ok at best. The only good thing is the roof.
A. V.
If I wrote this review at 1pm it would have been a four. But I didn’t, I wrote it at 1am, so it’s a five. Food doesn’t get any better than this after midnight.
T. S.
Where do I begin:
Meat: tender and juicy
Salad: flavourful, my partner who usually sweeps the salad to the side ate this one with great pleasure
Chips: unreal! Infused with a vinegar taste. Never had anything like it
Service: fast and friendly, no booking required
Location: CBD, close to everything and the interiors were interestingly pleasant.
Bonus: open 24/7! Couldn’t recommend more
A. K.
Loved it.
Have been there often and never returned disappointed. Be it appetizers, Giros, Pitas, Sauces, Drinks or anything on the menu, they prepare it the best.
They don't even have salt n pepper on tables or elsewhere - that's their confidence. You won't need them either.
Best Greek Restaurant around Melbourne.
F. H.
Always great can't go past them. Service delivery quality always tops!
k. j.
Ever reliable, been there forever, friendly good value Greek food.
G. M. S.
Very nice restaurant. Greek food specialities. First time coming here. Recommended for every tourists.
Z. C.
One of the best places to eat in Melbourne. Very lively atmosphere. Staff were alright, but the food was just delicious. I enjoyed their mousakka because I'm a huge lover of lasagna.
H. M.
I really like this place and the food but most importantly this place is special due to the lively and very friendly Paris. He is my favourite waiter with his great energy and constant smile.
B. B.
You can't come to Melbourne without eating here after midnight! Open 24 hrs it's the best spot for a late night feed. Delicious giros & great friendly service, even at 2 am!
J. C.
So popular in the city. Good food, good amount and is 24/7.
M. C.
The food was delicious and the wait staff are very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this place.
G. A.
Great food! Good spot for people watching. Loud though.
R. Y.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, excellent food. It was busy but the ambience is great.
H. V.
It was our first time eating here and food was great. Just felt bad about the waitress who misunderstood our order and went on about how it was our fault. We didn’t really complain but she became defensive right away. As a customer, I felt attacked. I did appreciate the cashier for helping us out and processing our refund right away. I would come back for the food but hope we won’t get treated that way again.
P. H.
Food was great Willl be back nice staff and great service
M. L.
Good food and fast service. Has been relatively consistent over the years.
J. H.
Food was great. Pokey little table but good service
N. t. o. t. l.
Food was great. Could do with a bigger wine selection.
J. S.
Great vibes, good variety of greek food and as close to authentic as you can find in Australia. The fish soup started is also very nice.
L. R.
This Greek Place will never disappoints you as they have amzing Food with nice and great customer service experience.
R. S.
Hands down one of the best Greek restaurants I've ever been to!!! Make sure that I go here every time I'm in MEL. Don't be put off by the long as queue because the food and hospitality is worth the wait. Featured is the saganaki, homemade hommus and tzatziki, small kalamari platter, large Giro platter, chips, and warm pita bread. I'm craving this as I write gahhh!
E. W.
Great gluten free food, accredited by the coeliac society so safe to eat at and tasted very good. The Gf pita bread was first class
P. S.
An always busy Greek restaurant in the heart of the CBD, open 24/7! Scrumptious homemade specials, Greek beers, and an intriguing ceiling make for a regular casual drop-in when hunger calls.
a. b.
The best restaurant ive been too, the food is amazing. Paris provides the best service, loves his job and has been working there for 15yrs. The lineup is worth the wait trust me!!!
S. W.
Absolutely delicious food and premium quality service! We came out of the Ed Sheeran concert having no idea where to eat and what would be open at 11:30pm on a Monday night. Then we found this gorgeous little greek restaurant open 24 hours and it was excellent! We shared a dessert because you simply can't go passed an authentic baklava. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a late night treat or a damn good souvlaki.
P. L.
Fun location with very friendly service. I was there with a big group, and we were shown to the upstairs room, which suited us. For $1 extra you can add chips to a souvlaki. Which I of course did. Now that's classy.
C. O.
For coeliacs this home cooked fare is an absolute must. Beautiful memories of my mother-in-law's warm comfort food, authentic flavours for sure.
N. S.
The ambience would have been nicer, but this restaurant was too loud with lots of loud rowdy drunken patrons. I was upstairs at a Christmas dinner, ordered the Chicken souvlaki which was good, but it lacked with the flavour, could have had more seasoning. But still delicious. I love that this restaurant is family run and for over forty years of Melbourne's history. Wait staff are excellent, well presented, very pleasant to deal with and clearly they were working very hard with a loud crowd!
T. A.
The food is really good but overpriced
T. K.
I loved this Greek restaurant. I had been here with a large group. We had to reserve table ahead, I think it is mandatory at this moment. We also had to check in before entering the place. It is spacious, there are tables in two floors. There is a variety of dishes to choose from the menu. I loved the food, they are delicious and filling. Service was great too. This restaurant is moderately expensive but worth it.
I. M.
Coming to Melbourne for a short stayed wanted to trying the Hellenic Food culture. Food if good wouldn't say great and probably first time finding not one Greek working. The atmosphere and service was great its definitely a popular venue with volume of customer you could say an institution of Melbourne greek food
A.
Understaffed and busy as hell on 2/01/2022 but still wonderful service, the food was cooked absolutely perfectly but just bland.
S. T. W. K.
Yummy 😋 yummy!
We had VEGAN Slouvaki and chips (of course)
This was my 2nd time back!
Well worth a trip and open 24hrs for your tastebuds pleasure!
D. G.
fantastic food great staff would recommend this great establishment to all who see this
D. F.
Open 24/7, institutional place to eat at any time. I always go for mixed kebab but you can always customise your own.
M. S.
Greek food at its best definately worth eating here you wont be disappointed something for everyone
G. G. N.
Delicious food especially their chicken gyro
D. T.
Meat was nicely cooked and was delicious! Slightly on the pricey side though..
D. S.
staff and manager was really accommodating - we made a booking for a friday night and overlooked the requisite set menu, but the manager came and offered us an a la carte menu
food was amazing as always and really decently priced for the amount received
A. S.
Fantastic service and really good food. It's open 24 hours per day!
S. K.
Good food! Best value for money. Loved the dips!
T.
A Melbourne institution. The heart and soul of Melbourne's greek precinct in the CBD. I usually take interstate visitors here. As a local sometimes we dismiss our tourist hotspots as we can be a bit too cool for school. There's a reason why stalas remains popular- tasty hearty Greek food at a reasonable price, great service, cosy fun interior. And its open 24 hours as well!
A must visit when visiting Melbourne.
T. H.
Great food. A very busy place. Staff were extremely busy and I appreciate their effort in providing good customer service.
S. C.
Yummy Greek food. Had to wait for a table on a Saturday night for 15mins but I should say it was worth the wait! Thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian platter, chicken and veg souvlakis. Service was a bit rushed but can't complain because it was a Sat night and the place was flooded. Overall, a must visit and it is open 24hrs.
R. M.
We love Stalactites. The fact they are endorsed by Coeliac Australia is a bonus as one child is Coeliac. I usually order the lamb gyros platter and it is consistently great. The Tzatziki, the best in Melbourne. The kids love the chips which have the tastiest seasoning. Make sure you are really hungry when you go as the portions are generous. The service is friendly and very efficient.
E. C.
I had a lamb gyros souvlaki & a crème caramel and everything was absolutely delicious.
The waiter was very friendly, professional and efficient.
Highly recommended 🙂.
B. H.
The Best Yiros/Giros in the World! ✅💥💃Brilliant Waitress! ..Fast Service! Boom! 💥
r. q.
Generally really good. Sometimes the meat is a little dry and overdone if you come at the end of the night in comparison to the amazing tender pieces if you buy at the beginning of their busy time
F. R.
Amazing food and such a hospitable team!
D. N.
Nice portions and love that it's open until late.
S. A.
We came to Stalactites tonight for my mum's birthday. I hadn't been here for years but use to come here at 5am in the morning after a big night out. The upgrade looks great and the food is even better. Highly recommend!!!
S. C.
Had the lamb giros souvlaki and while it was fine, didn't feel it quite matched up to the souvlakis you get in Greece as the lamb was quite dry. Service was efficient.
I. I. N.
First time to eat lunch at this Greek Restaurant , the chicken with sauce n the peta is nice, very nicely grill n with great garlic smell taste
T. F.
Always busy but the food is delicious and priced reasonably.
J. W.
Had the Mixed grill, big portion, meat was great. The dolmades where laking taste though.
S. Y.
It's a great Greek restaurant for a quick stop over
E. G.
Highly recommend, more expensive than my usual dinner but well worth it. A large percentage of the menu is gluten free, the food is amazing and the service is probably some of the best I've had in Melbourne. I will be returning, perfect place for a birthday celebration
s. g.
one of Melbourne's longest established & well known Greek restaurants. Owned and operated by the same Greek family since 1978, Stalactites has long become a Melbourne institution.
Open 24 hours, 7 days a week, Stalactites is a must for a foodie.
Take a load off and sit under the ceiling adorned with actual plaster stalactites and order a small mixed lamb and chicken giro platter. The grilled meats are charred from the spit, but you’re going to need sides to go with the protein-only platter. Get some chips, a little less than fryer fresh on our visit but nicely seasoned with thyme, extra pita bread, tzatziki and salad to build your own little souvas.
C. V.
This place is absolutely stellar!
Hands down one of the best Souvlakis I have ever had in Melbourne, all the ingredients are top quality and prepared properly, the portions are generous.
The chips are fantastic!
Some of the nicest potato chips served with a souvlaki.
The coffee is great! I highly recommend STALACTITES to anyone looking for a good quality Souvlaki or just a good feed in general 🙏🏼💥
T. C.
This hotspot is definitely known for its 24 hour service and lively atmosphere with amazing greek food. As much as I agree, I would say I have had better, but still its a great spot to satisfy your greek cravings!
Meats are nice and tender, jam packed with your classic greek flavours of multiple spices. Tzatziki sauce is nice smooth and creamy with freshness from the cucumbers. Their meat platter is quite a good menu item to try out all their meats. The pita/naan bread is definitely a must in my opinion because its nice and soft, and pairs well always with any souvlaki or gyro.
Their seafood platter is also nice, and the olive oil isnt too overpowering as I find can be an issue for me in some greek restaurants. Calamari is perfectly cooked, which I would recommend trying!
Greek salad is also a nice, simple, classic dish to add to your meal just to lighten up everything that can get quite heavy. That being said, you dont feel sick after eating their meats, which is always a great sign!
S.
Best greek restaurant I’ve ever been to
Every time I visit melbourne from nz I have dinner here
A. G.
We had a wonderful experience here! The atmosphere is great, the service is excellent, and the food are gorgeous.
J. C.
Really enjoyed the menu we ate a banquet with dips, pita bread, lamb, chicken and salad also the dolmades are to die for. It's pretty busy but the staff make sure you attend to and served pronto. Try it out
M. T.
AMAZING! a must visit restaurant. Food excellent. I am coeliac and there was a huge amount on the menu i could have. The homemade dips came with incredible gluten free freshly baked flatbread. Souvla on skewer were incredible. Staff very friendly and cheerful. Thank you for a wonderful meal! We'll be back!
M. P.
The food is great without a doubt, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. No wonder it's always so busy
A. A.
Really enjoyed the food . Specially the fried cheese and dip dishes
J. K.
Delicious authentic Greek food with huge portions. Definitely recommend.
J.
Coeliac's Australia certified with friendly staff and delicious food!
N. S.
Iconic greek food. Service was great, the platter meat was tender and juicy. And surprisingly, it is open 24/7
J. H.
All the food here is unbelievable. Cannot recommend enough.
N. C.
What's not up like about Stalactites? I'm normally there for a late night souva but i went there on Monday at lunchtime for a moussaka. It did not disappoint.
J. S.
Was very good and great staff. Classic Greek dishes served in dining room with exposed stone walls and striking stalactite ceiling.
S. P.
Very good quality meats with a lot of flavour. Good that they keep their lamb meat as actual meat as well. An oldie and a goodie, a must place to visit for any tourist.
M. M.
Absolutely yummy. Hubby and I ordered the mixed giros and chicken giros respectively as a meal.
What came was mouth watering. Totally enjoyed the flavours of the food and the seasoning on the chips was inspired. Keep the good food coming.
M.
Value for money, big portion of food. Taste was good, worth for a try.
T. K.
We had 4 different take away orders. Considering it was very busy we didn't have to wait for too long for all of our orders to come out. Quick service and no mistakes with our orders.
R. W.
The food is delicious, heaps of coeliac/gluten free options, staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Visit regularly and never disappointed.
E. T.
Worth the wait... half hour wait for our large group of 7 on a Fri night. Meat platters were awesome
J.
Got take away at lunch time, restaurant was busy but order was ready in less than 10mins.
Great service and food was really well packaged, as in brilliant and there was plenty.
T. Z.
Great food, good portions, friendly staff, nice interior and best of all, it's open late night.
D. A. L.
You can't go wrong best Greek food in Melbourne.
G. S.
Great for Vegetarians
One thing I always loved about this restaurant is that it was open for 24hrs. But they've changed their timings now, unfortunately post-Covid. However, what's appreciable is that they still have decided to open until late (12AM) as of time of writing of this review.
We tried their Vegetarian Souvlaki. It was great. The vegetable patty in the Souvlaki was very tasty, and all ingredients were fresh. We also had their Stuffed Zucchini which was simply too good. It way exceeded our expectations.
The staff are very friendly, and took time to help us through with the menu. The Stuffed Zucchini dish was suggested by the staff. They also were very prompt and came to help anytime we asked.
The only negative I can find is that toilets were very soiled. But that's a problem with many Aussie restaurants. However, it's easy for the restaurant to fix.
The cost for food + experience is really reasonable. We simply loved dining here, and we will keep coming back.
This place is highly recommended!
S. P.
Pricy but generous serve per person.
J. G.
The only place to buy a real souvlaki with real lamb not that mulched up processed stuff you get at all the other places
J. P.
Restaurant on the first floor with a stalactite themed ceiling. Giro and souvlaki were great, and we're beer and cocktails. Bit pricey though.
S. S.
Great food , always love coming here . The quality of the food is always bankable and they have great proportions too. ‘Paris’ was a great host to us giving an amazing and very friendly service . With him it felt like I had a good mate on the other side of the counter
A.
Souvlaki was decent, but you get just as or better ones in other places for cheaper. The fries were great and spiced with onion powder.
Cutlery and cups were not clean. Cups especially were downright filthy.
M. S.
Absolutely delicious food. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food was on the table 4 min after we ordered. I would definitely come back
h. l.
Good greek cusine but bit pricey compared to other hotels
K. P.
The chicken giros souvlaki was soooo good. It was packed with delicious meat and well seasoned veggies.
We did take out and ate it 30mins later and it was not soggy at all. Traveled well.
T. S.
My favourite greek food I have to visit every time I'm in Melbourne CBD and it didn't disappoint The Best Souvlaki in town or maybe Australia
J. G.
The food was delicious and the staff were courteous and professional. Definetley grab a bite here if you enjoy authentic Greek cuisine!
N.
Great souvs, good service. Highly reccomended
H. L.
Good place for a late night bite. Consistent quality. Juicy and tasty souvalakis. May not be the best in town but definitely somewhere you can visit over and over. Especially good after a late night out.
S. A.
It’s a good feed, nothing too fancy but still full of flavour. Price is okay, could be a little cheaper though. Chips and their dips are so good though! Great restaurant and it’s open late if you’re ever in the need of a midnight dinner session
S. B.
If you fancy Greek, this is the place to go! Food is really good and the portions are generous. Great dining experience.
R. T.
Tasty and reasonably priced. Fast service and food arrived quickly.
A. L.
Staff was nice and polite. We ordered souvlaki. The bread was fuffy and soft, and loved the genrous amount of yogurt sauce in there. Would have preferred a bit more meat in it but probably that's the authentic way to serve it

As good a family restaurant as a drunk hangout
J. A. S. C.
The food was amazing, service as well. One of our favourite things was the fries! Really good one
M. H.
Very crowded and noisy. A lot of Greek food options. Open 24 hours. Also take away.
M. K.
Have to reserve a table on weekends or else get ready to stand on line. Restaurant interior design is innovative. I like the meat here but hummus and gluten free pita bread not really tasty.
M. R.
The food was alright but amazing ambience and warm, friendly staff. The place was busy and buzzing with energy. It's a good place for a nice Greek platter.
J. M.
Great place to eat. Atmosphere, helpful staff, good menu choice that tastes as good as it sounds.
A. M.
Great food, ordered the banquet and had far too much! Get individual dishes unless you want the convenient variety. Enjoy!
j. G.
Delicious Greek food.
Coeliac accredited restaurant, their gluten free Slovakis are to die for! Just delicious. Excellent and attentive customer service. Will definitely be back.
N. A.

Overall had an amazing dinner and experience as a mum was awesome didn’t feel embarrassed even after my kids was being a brat 🤦♀️ ....thank you guys
M. K.
Filling meal and not overly salty. Portions are great. Ordered a mixed souvalaki, chips, pita bread and appetiser platter for one.
R. L.
Late night legend! Great souvos and meat platters. An absolute Melbourne institute
A. L. (. C.
The food I enjoyed most during my last trip to Melbourne.
E. V.
It is clichéd to say that Stalactites is a Melbourne institution. However, if you have spent any quality time living in Melbourne, you will have a fond memory of a late night Stalactites run. Generous souvlakis that are packed full of flavour.
C. D.
Very good food. Got there around 5pm on a Saturday just before the crowds started. We chose a meat platter which came quickly and was a good size. The venue was pumping and had a really good vibe to it. Will come again. Well worth the visit as a local and if your visiting Melbourne.
K. V.
This place is awesome. Been coming here since I was a kid and the food is still 👌 Its casual dining with friendly staff and fast service. Highly recommend. The souvalaki bread/wrap makes it for me 💯
J.
Service was friendly, prompt and caring. Looking around you could see the staff were enjoying themselves although it was busy and the atmosphere was casual and relaxing. Our food was incredible. My family all got souvlaki which they chewed down with gusto and I had the vegetarian platter for one which was amazing. Beautiful flavours and the dips are to die for. Thank you so much for providing us a fantastic experience!
A. B.
One of my favourite places been going since I was a little girl, best souvlakia in the city! So yummy and good servings! Staff are always super friendly.
M. A. P.
I really enjoyed the food of this place. It was absolutely good. Definitely I would go again.
K. M.
This time I ate Greek food. I had a great time. 24 hours. We went here late at night.
S. J.
Loved the food and the experience! Giro Souvlaki is amazing! But the service could see an improvement!
J. W.
Good food. Loved the galaktoboureko. So so good. Mind blowing.
C. B.
They didnt have to let us sit down and dine but they did as they were about to close. Very appreciative. Food was tasty and came out fast. Good hygiene levels and staff were friendly. I feel like the prices are creeping up but that must be the city prices. Overall very happy 👌
N. S.
Enjoyed dinner at this small Greek restaurant on way to Michael Buble concert. Lineup continued out the door but due to efficient service staff was only 5 minutes before we were seated for our dinner. The mixed plate of lamb and chicken was incredibly tasty. Highly recommend.
T. J.
If you want to eat delicious food, Stalactites is the place to be! I can eat there over and over and over again!
A. H.
The food was very tasty and the staff was friendly and helpful. I give it 10/10
s. k.
We've ordered the meat platter which was excellent.also 5he customer service is very good it's much more than 5 stars.recommend it.
M. P. S.
Great experience. Staff is very friendly. Chicken soulaki is amazing, best one in CBD.
T. A.
Seated quickly at 9pm on a Saturday night.
Before we knew it, me and the boys were chowing down on some delicious giros.
A Melbourne institution! You must try it!
N. S.
Through the recommendation of my good friend, it is a process of enjoyment for us to eat in this restaurant together.
S. G.
I could have given 10 starts if it was possible, best food and amazing customer service, the guys treat you like family , I love coming to this place. I’ve been their customer since last 15 years and I will continue to do so.
C. Y. (.
Good food. A quite busy restaurant!
A. T.
Perfect spot for a late night snack. Eggplant and garlic dip with the freshly cooked pita was an amazing snack. Kalamari is a generous portion. Souvlakis and giros were delicious, ask for some spicy sauce to go with it too!
c. g.
Myself and my partner came to this 24hour restaurant, on the 1st of September 3:35AM 2019 We had a calamari platter it was 38$! We ordered it at it was the taste of heaven. I’ve never had such fresh fish, The environment was great and felt cozy! We’re definitely coming back to this restaurant soon. The staff was also very friendly and gave us time to order didn’t rush us. Most appreciated to the staff and chefs, Amazing food!
N. S.
Up front, we shared the mixed dips, with the separate pita as an appetizer was very good. My wife got a giro wrap, which was HUGE, loaded with meat. I tried a bite and it was good, but my wife and I agreed it was fairly basic. After all the great reviews about this place I was excited to try the moussaka, and was terribly disappointed by the portion size. It was nearly double the price and half the food of the wrap, and it too was fairly basic. I've tried moussaka all over the world and this was probably my least favorite.
It took a while to get noticed to be seated and apparently they take table bookings all day, because we passed several tables that were reserved. And we were seated in front of the heater blowing on us on the second floor. The waitress we had was not friendly. The guys behind us did no favors telling her how miserable she was at virtually ever encounter, but I think she decided to avoid our area, perhaps.
It's probably good for take away, and we didn't get to explore the menu, but we probably wouldn't go back. Maybe you'll have better luck! Others seem to do better than we did.
A. K.
One of the best Greek gyro wraps in Melbourne.
F. A.
Get their chicken souvlaki, not their lamb (too dry). The chicken is FANTASTIC. I typically eat out once a week, in this case I ate it two days in a row. SO GOOD.
J. A.
The best Greek food place in the city.
S. W.
Stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Good customer service and friendly staff. The menu is very accommodating, my wife is Gluten Free and the menu has a good variety. It does get very busy so if ya can get in early for dinner, oh and the gyros is amazing. We will 100% return.
D. M.
Great food and atmosphere and value for money. Highly recommend.
E. M.
Came in for the first time on Saturday. Wait wasn't too long and service was quick. The restaurant is beautiful. Food was really good and came out quick (we ordered Souvlakis and Mixed Giro) and reasonably priced to for good portion size. Despite being seated next to a table who had a child vomiting on the floor next to me it didn't ruin my experience. Highly recommend
V. M. A.
Slow service. But the food is pretty good.
N. R. E.
GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
They make a nice cappuccino and dessert!
The staff member as amazing !! They put their heart and soul in the job !
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Delicious food and nice good services
Thank you.
J. O.
We had the saganaki and meat platter for two. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the service was very friendly.
N. D.
Excellent restaurant very popular, food great
A. A.
first time trying greek restaurant and it was so good !!
R. S.
Decent customer service, really tasty and fresh food. Fries were great too and the gluten free option souvlaki was tasty. Staff seemed overwhelmed during peak hour but overall a nice place to have a post-work email or family dinner.
A. C.
Sensational food great atmosphere and the staff are extremely professional
J. M.
Great customer service even though they were very busy! They are open 24 hours. We went around 10pm and it was still so so busy. Honestly we weren't sure what to expect, except yummy food. It was our first experience of Greek cuisine too.
Portion sizes are huge and worth what you pay for. Complimentary bread and salted butter is given before food is served. Which is really nice since customers will be more happy waiting for their meals.
If we visit Melbourne,we will definitely be visiting Stalactites. Otherwise, we would recommend anyone who is around Melbourne to try this family run restaurant.
K. L.
It was okaish. We managed to get a long hair, although we did get a replacement it turned us down it was a tasty wrap though I still expect a lot from this place , so hopefully would be there again some day
P. C.
I make a point of dining here every time I go to Melbourne. The food and the service never disappoint. Delicious menu and big servings (took half of my entrèe-size main serving with me as it was too big to finish in one sitting.) Can't wait to go back again...
R. H.
We went here when we first arrived in Melbourne six years ago and it was amazing. We recently returned as we were craving a decent kebab in the city. Seems like after living in Melbourne and being surrounded by some of the best Greek food on the planet, our tastes and expectations have changed considerably. What was once an absolute delight, turned out to be seriously average at best. Service was great, but the food was lacking in every way. If you want the best souvlaki, and have transport, get yourself to Melissa in Templestowe, you won't be disappointed.
C. N.
I really enjoyed the food here and even more so knowing I can have it 24/7. We ordered the mixed souvlaki and it was perfect, the wrap itself was soft and fresh and a highlight for me. The filling was delicious too. Service was prompt and professional.
m. s.
We went there couple of weeks ago for my nephews birthday and it was awesome! Food was beautiful, service was great, Paris stood out (i hope that's he spells his name). Our meal, time spent there was definitely more enjoyable because of that extra personal touch Paris provided. Big thank you! Planning another visit there, great food, and even better service!💕
K. C.
I love Stalactites and their staff! Awesome food and atmosphere! Always consistent with their recipes and service. Having 2 kids, we are limited with time to eat! Our kids love it here as much as we do! You will never be disappointed!
D. T.
I thought this restaurant was overrated but there’s perpetually a crowd - perhaps because the restaurant opens 24 hours.
Dropped by on a Sat night for very late dinner. The homemade beef kokinisto was extremely dry and tough. I was not impressed and that was a good A$26. I ended up munching on the fries instead! Good wine selection though.
S. K.
Delicious food, fast service, and a great selection of traditional food. There can be a wait to get into the restaurant, but great assured the did is worth the wait. Great for families, big or small groups, and caters very well to a range of dietary requirements. Highly recommended to visit this unique part of the Melbourne establishment.
j. d.
Thank you for making our simple dinner feels like anniversary!!! SUPERB service and great food!!! The BEST!!!
T. C.
Pretty friendly service, decent value food. Normally I would give it 4 starts but I'll bump it to 5 because they're doing a good thing by donating proceeds from the tsitsipas souvlaki.
M. T.
Great food and amazing service in particularly by Paris 👌
S. L.
Amazing food and great atmosphere. Delicious made to order pita bread and such yummy dips. Great opening hours too!
G. J.
Open 24/7 this is a truly iconic restaurant in Melbourne.
We came here for a late night feed after the casino. Service was very friendly and the food delicious. It’s a lot more expensive than your average kebab shop but the quality of the food is delicious.
I feel sorry for the staff as they put up with a lot of drunks on the weekend in late later hours. Power to them.
Cracking restaurant for a late night feed.
J. K.
Had a great time here with friends. The restaurant is really thoughtful and care for customers, staff are all very friendly. And food is delicious.
S. (.
Great Greek food. The place was buzzing at 10pm on a Sunday. Highly recommended.
H. T.
Wonderful authentic Greek food, thanks for a lovely meal
M. L.
Food is good but service is a bit slow.
J. P.
Fantastic Souvlaki here, meat was so tender and full of flavour! The best staff were very friendly and the service was fast!
C. U. (.
Great value for money here, I had a mixed souvlaki and not only was it delicious, but it was huge! I was drawn to Stalactites as I could see from the outside that it was bustling and thought it must be good. The atmosphere inside is nice, albeit tables are a bit crammed, so you could be sitting in very close proximity to others. The service for the most part was fine, except the waitress taking our order was a bit rude and abrupt. Overall though, the food is great and I would recommend this restaurant to friends who like Greek food.
S. W.
You may have to queue and wait to get into this popular restaurant. Busy atmosphere and friendly staff. Meal courses arrive promptly and there is a large menu to choose from. Meat eaters will be well catered for. We ordered meat platters and they were huge, with a good selection to try, skewers, chops and rissoles among the meats. Drinks prices are reasonable.
A. B.
I had heard only good this about this restaurant so the expectations were really high, and I this that did not work well for me. Because my expectations were high it led me to see everything very critically and so I had to give 3 stars to this place(I thought it will be 4).
I have been to this place 3 times now and every time it has been one thing or the other that has bugged me. First lets talk about the positives.
The meat is always fresh from the SPIT. Chicken meat in Giro was really tender and really good flavoured. Meatball pasta was really nice. Meatballs were juicy and had really good flavour. Pasta was nicely cooked. The quality of service is very good, and the best part is that this place is always open.
Now about my not so good experience, I had a mix Giro with a bowl of chips in which the chips were old and soggy. I asked the server to get the fresh ones and she quickly brought back a bowl filled with chips (Top half fresh chips and the bottom half soggy chips). The lamb meat was hot but was really overcooked and dry, which was not very pleasant to eat.
I think that this place deserves an easy 4. I am going to go there again for sure and hope this this time I will not face any disappointments like before.
C. U.
Amazing meat. meat platter for three feeds more than that. Opens when you need it to be open. What an experience.
V. R.
Unobtrusive, welcoming restaurant with simple, uncomplicated menu offering classic Greek dishes. Excellent food and friendly wait staff. Definitely will visit again on my next trip to Melbourne.
Z. A.
Good service, I loved eggplant and garlic dip, food was delicious !!
F. V.
Very tasty a bit expensive
One star less..... i ordered fries and very bad my 2 packages too burned
B. R.
Amazing food, plenty of gluten free options for my wife which made for a great date night
S. S.
Best souvlaki I’ve ever tasted..😋
R. Q.
A Melbourne institution! Great charcoal flavour of the meat. Tastes like the true Greece. Service is friendly and communication from staff is excellent. A place to go for flavour and very generous portions. Don’t miss it
S. C.
Always a great place to eat any time 24/7. Follow Google best time to eat guide to get the freshest meats
Y. N.
I highly recommend Stalactites restaurant. Food was super delicious and fresh. It’s open 24 hours.
A. Q.
The best food I have ever had in a while
L. L.
Had to line up for about 15 minutes to get a table around 8pm on a Friday night. People don't line up for bad food. Food was delicious and fresh. Service was faultless. Only in Melbourne for 4 days and considering eating here each day lol Meals are a very generous serve. Woukd definitely dine here again
A. C.
They finally have a Gluten free and vegan pita option. Prices are pretty good and it's 24/7. Overall always a pretty good experience. Food is tasty and filling ( You get what you pay for), bathroom is clean, tables and cutlery also clean and staff are pretty polite and friendly especially considering it was like 4am.
T.
Was always a must when in the area. But it's losing it's touch when it comes to takeaway giros. Garlic sauce is a must but when its bathed in it, then it just becomes soggy and falls apart.
J. A. I.
This is a fantastic restaurant. When I come here, I always get 3 things, which I highly recommend:
1) the combined lamb/chicken platter
2) the 4 dips
3) the homemade bread (the pitas are good, but this bread is amazing with the dips!)
Also, they are open late, they have great service, and the place is well cared for. If you want Greek food in Melbourne, you can't go wrong at Stalactites.
J. L.
Great atmosphere great service and food is outstanding highly recommend a visit
N. M.
At first I was concerned with how rushed the waiter seemed, but soon after he took our order, the restaurant went from 1/3 full to completely full. It was insane.
The food was amazing. We had the saganaki, meat platter, side salad and hummus. There was plenty leftover which was had the next day.
I initially doubted the place based on its 24/7 opening hours, but that was silly because it was wonderful.
U. M.
The food was amazing and we could cover for gf and df within our group. The staff super friendly as well. Atmosphere was awesome. We arrived at a good time as it seems to be exceedingly popular and it filled up fast we left and the line waiting to go in for a table went around the corner which tells you in my opinion the place is a sort after place to go for a meal.
S. K.
Grab a late night kebab. Almost a guarantee it's a better decision than the other things you're considering.
Grab a kebab during the day if you like too. These are high quality eats.
U. S.
Beautiful food, beautifully presented. Fresh ingredients, if I was living more locally to this restaurant I would come very often. Such a lovely place, love Greek people and Greek food. The whole fish of the menu is so yummy and cooked and seasoned to perfection! I also once confused giros and fillet - mistaking the two to be the other way around, the staff were very polite to explain the difference and I simply love this place! It’s amazing! I will be taking all my Greek friends here.
E. C.
I've lived here for a year and a half and finally made it here. It has a well deserved reputation as a stalwart of late night Melbourne dining.
Open 24 hours for good reason
Because the food is on point. Gigantic souvs and fresh crispy hot chips.
Couldn't ask for anything else at 2am on a Sunday.
J. M.
Had the Lamb souvlaki... Totally YUM... Will be back.
S. P.
Really like this place. Best gyros I ever remember having. Had the chicken lamb mix, very delicious. It was busy, but that makes sense with such yummy food. Waiters had everything under control and were very friendly. Keep up the good work!!
V. S. A. (.
A must go place on Lonsdale and Russell Street signal. It's one of the places that you can choose to go any time of the day especially during night after clubbing when you are tired and hungry. The food is really awesome and staff is quite friendly. Their service is fast comparatively to the rush they handle during peak hours. It's very conveniently located and you would find many taxis just around the corner.
C. D.
The food was delicious and the serving sizes generous. None of us could finish even though our meals were so tasty, don't worry though they're also happy to pack up leftovers for you to take home. The vegetarian platter has a bit of everything and all of it tastes incredible and the souvlaki is a must. The baklava was the best I've ever tasted!
