Would highly rate this place. Was recommended by a friend. All the food was excellent especially the salted egg prawns which was a surprise hit. The Peking duck pancakes were also excellent. Service was very friendly and helpful as well for us newbies to the restaurant. Will certainly be back.

The atmosphere isn't overly done so it gives off a subdued, but luxurious feel. Although the price may be a bit intimidating for some items on the menu,
it was absolutely amazing nonetheless, and given that every ingredient is clearly fresh and premium, it makes the price well worth it. Staff are focused on giving you the best time of the night while enjoying their food. Highly rated, will definitely eat here many more times to come.

We’ve had amazing meals at Tian38 in the past years. It’s unsurprising that we were once again impressed, including by new additions to the menu.
The Nonya Barramundi we had was cooked to the nostalgic memory of home, with fresh, local Aussie Barra - YUM! The tuna tartare with asam laksa sauce almost had us licking off the plate! We thought about giving dessert a pass, but gave in (again) to the taro-misu, a consistent favourite of ours, which did not disappoint.
Alan’s always been a great host - really accommodating with fitting us in at short notice and also going out of his way with special food deliveries, a gesture much appreciated noting the challenging and volatile circumstances.
The experience we recently had with lovely Claire and Yuki waiting on us was one to remember. They were both relatively new, but knew exactly what they are doing. They were attentive to our needs and super friendly. Watching them systematically and delicately prepare amazing drinks - cocktails, mocktails, etc for the multitude of guests was fun!
Big shout out to Claire and Yuki! They gave us a wonderful experience at Tian38!
If you’re after SEAsian/Malaysian/Singaporean fusion food with a twist, in a relaxed-fine dining setting, you will be hard-pressed to point to anywhere better than Tian38.
Highly recommended.

I ordered the Mixed Roast meal for delivery on EASI. It was so delicious!! The serving was large, the meat was fresh and high quality and the accompanying chicken rice was so tasty. I can’t wait to order from here again.

Maybe a place for an occasional time but not one that I will frequent as I don't find anything special about the meal to pay the high price tag. They do have an exceptional service for an Asian restaurant (although asking you to leave because the table is reserved for 7:30 is rude, especially after you answered no seating time when I asked at booking!) and the presentation of dish is great but for the price of the dish the serving is too small and taste is good but not worth the price tag. The eggplant is like appetiser size, the clam is served in a big plate but there really isn't much in it and for a $69 large roast platter I'd expect it to be bigger.. The kuay teow is not quite there, it's oily and lack taste of authentic 'char' kuayteow. They do have a special menu for Chinese New Year so there's that good vibe and service for the occasion ^_^

A lively and popular Asian restaurant in the CBD. We booked a table and utilised Liven voucher. It was after lockdown, so most of the staff were new and service was lacking. We were seated in one of the coves which felt quite stuffy. However, the food was very nice and well made. The taste and quality was up to our expectations, with the roast meats being a highlight. Would recommend it for Cantonese cuisine.

Great service and the place is nice too. It's pretty but not too luxurious that you feel uncomfortable.
Food is a little too sweet for my palate. We ordered the chilli crab jaffles, chicken rice , and mee goreng. The jaffles and mee goreng were slightly too sweet, chicken rice is good.
Price is on the higher side but understandable considering the place and service.

Been here couple of times so got to sample most of their food. Majority of the food I've had have been fantastic regardless but these are 3 dishes I fell in love with.
1.I can confidently say their satay (lamb and wagyu) beats any satay skewer I've had using the perfect marinade, great char and high quality cut of meats-so tender.
2. Truffle mushroom fried rice- I've never had fried rice this good. Expensive but so worth it. You can smell the strong whiff of Truffle aroma and taste it too. It is on the oiler side though. I like it.
3. Salted egg prawns. Look you dont get a lot for $32 (especially for sharing), I wanted more but like I said, they use very fresh produce and prawns were so juicy paired with a lot of umami sauce with enough deep fried crunch.
Definitely worth splurging for any occasion.

We went here on a Thursday night. Their service is very accomodating and the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and the ingredients used. They also recommended the Taro misu which was our favourite. The cocktail drinks were well made and smooth. Amazing that they also had the piano man perform to requested songs! 👌🏽
Y. Z.
An epic food journey with some stellar dishes across the menu. The Jaffles both crab and tofu are a perfect way to begin. The satay cooked perfectly with arguably one of the best peanut sauces around town. The chilli chicken that is found in the starters is a mind blowing flavour packed plate of happiness that should be accompanied by the Garlic rice for optimum pleasure. The Angus beef noodle dish is also excellent in its own right. What makes the restaurant an absolute winner 🏆 is that with the exceptional food is the friendly staff that make the stay pleasurable and make you want to return.
If you are after a nice calming non alcoholic beverage for the evening, the signature "yuzu and honey" drink will hit the spot.

Great atmosphere and overall vibes. Service was fantastic, and the food was even better. I recommend making a booking rather than walking in, this place is packed on nights - and I understand why.
M. A.
This 'new school' Chinese restaurant will deliver you just that, beautiful traditional cuisine with a twist and presented impeccably. All of our dishes were delicious, service fantastic and my glass was never empty. Staff made a minor error and failed to realize our table was booked for the next timeslot, giving us 5 minutes to clear out.
Everything else was great, well done staff.

Visited this place few months ago. Loved the ambiance and the decors. Perfect place for a romantic date. Friendly and professional staff. Delicious food. Loved the truffle rice. Had a good range of choices for appetizers and mains but not much for desserts. Bit on the pricey side but we got a discount through livenpay food dollars.
J. W.
Nice cosy place. Lots of people but still feel spacious. Delicious food with great friendly service. My fav were the roast platter, vegemite rendang and kung po cauliflower. Really tasty! Definitely recommend.

Had a Lunar NY celebration here, most of the food were tasty, especially the mi goreng mamak, salted egg prawns, Tian asparagus, Squid dish and the kung pao Cauliflower. Portion could have been a little better and the pork dishes were tad too salty. However, Service was impeccable! Claire our table waitress was very friendly, attentive and professional, making our dining experience absolutely amazing! The cocktails specials were fantastic as well - a must try!

The food here is amazing! It'l has a mix of authentic Malaysian / Singaporean / Chinese dishes. We ordered way too much food to try a few different things and it was all excellent. The satay chicken was just like in Malaysia, with a rich yummy sauce. The peking duck was very tasty and we also got the truffle fried rice which we both loved despite neither of us being a big fan of truffle. The asparagus was also surprisingly delicious. The service and atmosphere were also very nice. We will definitely return with friends.
H. W.
Nice ambience and foods, but a little pricey. Same foods could have been offered at a much lower price elsewhere in Melbourne. This is definitely a high end (atas) Malaysian/Singaporean cafe type restaurant.

TIAN 38, Melbourne 📍 . I finally visited the famous @tian38melb specialising in Singaporean Cuisine using my @livenpay package and it lived up to all the hype 🙌🏻 The Hainanese Chicken was UNREAL (the rumours are true!!)..
.
Everything we ordered was full of flavour - we loved the stir fried asparagus, CKT, and the three roast with egg noodles! The mixed meats included roast pork, char Siu and duck! If the duck was cut smaller that would’ve been even better cos it was a bit too chunky that day- but flavour wise- bomb. We had room for dessert and they were delish!
.
The dining space is beautiful, dark and moody. Perfect for an intimate lunch or dinner occasion. ❤️

I don’t normally find my food between Flinders and Bourke streets, but I stand corrected. The food in this restaurant was just amazing. The restaurant itself looked very fancy, like a luxury hotel. Everything was amazing, maybe only that the skin of the Xiao Long Bao was thicker than the normal ones we have had before. The duck, pork, just mouth watering. Truffle fried rice, OMG, don’t start. A gem in the area definitely.

We visit led Tian38 over the public holiday break. We saw all the recommendations on social media and from friends so we had to try it. We tried a few of their signature dishes (and even took home an extra portion for our family). The food was fabulous but more importantly, the staff were absolutely lovely (6 out of 5 stars to them for making us feel so welcome and were truly the best). And love the fact that they were so generous with giving out food to help those in need during COVID.
L. T.
Working around the corner, I saw this place being built with great anticipation. I've been here a few times now and it's one of those places I'm glad to bring people to when I'm in the city.
The food is excellent, the menu is really interesting, and their lunch specials are fantastic. The food isn't super authentic (lots of fusion between Chinese/Japanese, Chinese/Malaysian, etc), but I highly recommend them if you're after a a great meal.

Throwback a little celebration tian 38 who specialised in Singaporean Cuisine! The rumours are true - The Hainanese Chicken is UNREAL! It’s sensational! Perfect paired with Riesling from one of my favourite wineries - Rockford!
I would actually rate this place with a rating 5 only if they have organized us with the right table from the start !
H. T.
Great food & take away cocktails. They have the best Hainan chicken rice & Singaporean chilli crab. Quality ingredients. Very good value. We keep some leftover for picnic next day
C. M.
Nice modern Singapore-style dining. Cool decor, service ok but not the level you would expect at this price point. Dishes good but a bit lacking in taste - more like suburban Melbourne than Singapore!
S. W.
Nice ambience, great food. We had satay, some stir fry veggies, ducks, seafood and everything just taste really goood!!
J. M.
Throughly enjoyed our meal and service at Tien38! We were promptly greeted and seated to our table by the friendly staff. As for the dishes, the winner for us was the Peking duck and Hainanese chicken as they both were cooked to perfection. Prices were fair and wait time in between dishes were good too. Would definitely be back!
L. Y.
The food was average to me though the service was good and mocktail was unique. Very pricey and I don't think it's worth the hype to go again. That's my personal taste and opinion...
W. C.
Food is a hit and miss. Some good dishes and some poor dishes like the eggplant and jaffle.
Same with staff.
One very friendly and happy waitress (long black hair tied up) amongst a bunch of okay staff but there was a stand out rude cant-be-bothered waitress that served us.
Our drinks were also left sitting on the bar for a good ten minutes despite reminding her about it.

No matter how you look at it, it does not have the interior deco, the ambience and the feel of a Chinese/Asian restaurant.
Black may be trendy for the young or Westernised Chinese, but it is definitely not the preferred colour for an auspicious celebration. On the positive note, the atmosphere is just right for a romantic date / night out.
The four big fish tanks near the rear of the premises do gives the clue that restaurant may serve fresh fish or seafood, just like other Chinese seafood restaurant. However, due to reduced business caused by the COVID-19, the tanks are empty, and therefore I cannot expect to have fresh fish served.
The wall has columns of 6 beads that resemble a giant abacus. However, it cannot be a Chinese abacus, because it does not have a horizontal bar linking the columns together, with 2 beads above the bar and 5 beads below each column.
The left side is the beverage bar, and the right for sit down dining.
It has an open kitchen, but I hardly hear any noise made by a chef banging his ladle on the wok. The staff tend to work in slow motion, unlike their counterparts in a typical Chinese restaurant who work at the speed of a bullet train.
There are seven diners in my group, led by our friend who is a regular customer. We give her the honour to order on our behalf, and approve her choice of “Take me to Singapore” set menu.
The waiter brings out an old gold colour teapot, and a nice set of tea cups and saucers. This is a lot classier than the white porcelain or red-pattern melamine tea set used by most Chinese restaurants. I cannot whinge about the $5 per pot of Chinese tea, because it is cheaper than $2 per head charged by other places.
The artistic presentation of the dishes is a bonus to my eyes. The dark/black bowls accentuated the royal yellow colour skin of the Hainan chicken. Overall, the serving bowls and plates do highlight the contrasting colours of the food.
A free range chicken has less fat, and the meat is firmer in texture than a normal farm chicken. The meat is a bit too firm for my liking. The chicken rice, although is flavoursome, it is not what I expect. I prefer “chicken” rice cooked with some chicken fat, and pandan leaf.
The properly char-grill satays and the red satay sauce are flavoursome. Together with chopped shallots and cucumber pieces, these are plated on top of a rectangular sheet of banana leaf, placed over a “rectangular” green-surface dish. However, I have to give whoever that marinated the chicken meat a rap in the knuckle, because it was salty.
Banana leaf Sambal Humptydoo Barramundi appeared to be pan-fried. The sambal is not too spicy hot, and the meat is soft. Although I prefer to eat the “steamed soy, ginger and shallot Humptydoo Barramundi” listed in the Hong Kong menu, this is not a bad alternative.
The “Golden Salted Egg Yolk Prawns” is lightly battered, and fried to golden and crispy. The prawns are cooked to perfection, firm but not hard.
This is the first time I see little Shanghai Bok Choys being served whole in a bowl. They are sprinkled with crispy garlic.
The menu is meant to serve 6 people, but we have 7 in our group. We add another dish “Sichuan Fragrant Eggplant”. The presence of dried chillies makes the dish spicy hot. It is a traditional comfort dish in a Chinese restaurant. Fragrant? Not quite. Delish? Yes.
I am disappointed that the restaurant does not serve Singapore / Nonya Kuihs as dessert. The “Lychee Panna Cotta” and “Taro”misu are just not right to complete the meal.
I have no comment about the Panna Cotta, but the “Taro”misu needs improvement, even though it is an adaptation of the famous Italian dessert Tiramisu. The biscuit base of the “Taro”misu should be soaked in coffee and a good dose of liqueur / or coffee liqueur.
I have to hold back giving the maximum score for the dining experience because of the desserts.

Nice food and good vibes. Take me to Singapore is a amazing set . Love the Prawn golden egg most 😋
P. K.
Great Singapore and Msian cuisine served with class. The Wagyu beef satay was deliciously BBQ with very tender meat and tasty homemade authentic satay sauce. The Hainanese chicken rice was fantastic, not overly cooked and tender, comes with all the authentic spices, condiments and sauces for great Singapore experience. The salted egg yolk prawns are a hit, very well presented and tasty to the last morsel. The bokchoy vegetables was crispy and full of crunchy garlic crisp making it a delightful dish. Highly recommend this new restaurant as the go to place for local Singapore and Malaysia cuisine in the city.

It is always such a pleasure to dine here. Great atmosphere. Friendly service. Awesome food. Pricing that is not over the top. And beautiful private spaces at the back of the restaurant. Oh and did I mention the cocktails.
M. N.
This place was really cosy and their Peking duck wrap is a Must Have! It comes in two sizes half and full. For two people the half would be enough! Also had the Kung pao cauliflower tasty taste a bit like roast potato chips. Cocktails in caption
A. P.
It wasn't bad.
The food itself taste pretty good. The presentation is top notch. I would like to recommend the Chilli Crab Jaffer and the truffle fried rice. The most disappointing menu would be the Grilled Barramundi. The skin is soft and not crispy like most SE Asiam style grill.
The service could be better. The service from the staffs are nice but it seems like they are understaffed in the middle of dinner service.
The atmosphere is amazing. The place is go and I love it

A very cool and modern ambience to accompany the tasty Singaporean cuisine. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating. Our highlights are the hainanese chicken rice and laksa during lunch. I especially love that their chicken laska uses chicken tenders, and the chicken rice comes with a very generous serving of super tasty ginger and chilli sauces!
A. A.
The interior and ambience felt pretty fancy. Staff were friendly and attentive, food was quite good as well.

My friends have been raving about the Hainanese Chicken Rice from Tian 38 for ages so it goes without saying that this was the first thing I dug into when my meal arrived. Undoubtedly a quality dish, the chicken is succulent enough and the rice is aromatic and moreish.
The Chilli Crab Jaffle had my taste buds in a spin. Toasted to a crisped perfection, and overflowing with the delicious goodness of chilli crab and cheese, this jaffle is super addictive. Just as addictive is the salted egg chicken ribs. Packs a flavour punch and executed brilliantly. The Sichuan Eggplant was also a dish that showcased beautiful flavours and this dish would go wonderfully with rice.
The roast meats platter came with three kind of meat - roast pork, BBQ pork and duck. Reasonablely tasty, but I personally did find that the BBQ pork was too thickly sliced and very fatty. If you like it that way, you'll be in heaven.
The taromisu was an interesting and clever take on a Tiramisu, and the taro cream was light and had the delicate sweetness of taro. If only the biscuit layers were soaked in the cream, this would be unbeatable.
A most enjoyable meal, and I'm definitely keen to try out that Singapore Chilli Crab in the future.
D.
Food is tasty, albeit slightly over-priced. Take-away turnaround is always fast, even if the portion sizes vary according to the day it seems.
Dining in is a different story: the service is poor and the waiters seem inexperienced and rushed. On my last visit, the restaurant was also messy (plates left lying on tables well after patrons have left) and the dining space at the back of the restaurant (usually for groups) was lack lustre.
I’d normally give two stars, but the food isn’t bad, and that’s what counts most, though there is a lot of room for improvement.
W. I.
Best chilli crab - takes me back to Singapore!! Amazing food and service, thank you to the team at Tian38! This is now my go to spot!
S. K.
A wonderful Singaporean Chinese restaurant/bar. Definitely one of my favourite. Steamed Hainanese chicken, salted egg yolk shrimps and chilli crab jaffles are a must try
S. R.
Absolutely incredible! From the beautiful vibe, music and layout, to lovely warm service. The food of course was impeccable, high quality and super flavoursome. A must try!
J. M.
New go-to for hainanese chicken cravings. The free range chicken is a healthy + Alan went above and beyond to help me figure out the delivery service option since this was my 1st time ordering food online and accommodate my requests. EXTRA red chilli and ginger garlic sauce is a must. Absolute delish. Check it out. You be the judge
W. W.
Incredible lunch deal with their Hainan chicken rice, thoroughly enjoyed their salted eggs chicken eggs too.
W. E. L.
It’s a unique fusion food — it’s a mixed between japanese/malaysian/chinese food. I found the food is delicious. It’s highly recommended if you’re looking something different.
M. R.
Food is really good! My group and I enjoyed everything (Xiao long bao and truffle rice was the highlight), but the cocktails weren't good and didn't match the food in flavour. Also, the service was pretty poor, they didn't check our table at all, and we constantly had to flag someone down. When we wanted dessert we had to stand up and go all the way to the counter because the servers weren't giving us any attention
A. S.
I hope to visit the place really soon, have always ordered online. The food is amazing i always order kung Pao cauliflower and fried rice and its delicious , always on time, perfect temperature.
Z. G.
Cheers to the bar manager who went all out just to make me feel well taken care of. I believe he might have saw my expression of the drink that I ordered which I find it too sour for me and offered complimentary drinks that I might like. My experience here made unforgettable because of him, couldn't remember his name but he deserves a good review! :)

Summary: Pricey, great selection of cocktails & mocktails, delicious food, really good dietary options, friendly accommodating & helpful service
Context: team dinner.
Food: We had several different dietary requirements. When staff realised they had misunderstood one (we had a vegetarian as well as a vegetarian + white meat), the chef was really accommodating and whipped up additional vegetarian dishes really quickly. See photo captions for assessment of food items. Everyone really enjoyed the drinks they tried.
Service: Staff strategically changed out cutlery and crockery between certain dishes so that flavors didn't mix. In addition, it was only the next day that we realised the place officially closes at 10 but some of us stayed to midnight. Staff didn't rush or pressure the team to leave which is extremely generous and accommodating of them.
Overall everyone had a really great night. Personally I think it was a bit pricey from a value for money perspective, but I might come back here personally for a special occasion. Especially for the Morton bay bugs & noodles

This latest Cantonese /Chinese restaurant and bar is visually striking once you open the door and walk in. The moon gate and the red clawing cat "good luck" sculpture greets you. At the other end is a funky bar. Around it are intimate stalls and tables. Food is good as are the price. We had the congee and they were excellent. Wines by the glass or by the bottle is available , as is a list of cocktails. I know where I will be going after work this Friday!
1st lockdown
Tried the Singapore Chilli Crab Panko Jaffle. This is superb!
5Dec20- we had the "Take me to Singapore" banquet. What a feast! Excellent meal with fantastic flavours.
E. H.
Taromisu is good. I like when it’s NOT too sweet ! It’s so smooth that just melts in mouth.!! Hainan Chicken disappoints me a lot, it’s not bad but it’s far from my expectation since the restaurant should be a high end one. Wagyu beef skewers Taste great. Both Texture and flavor are great!! Scollops are ok~ and the dumplings are just not my type..
B. &. K.
Alan’s very considerate and flexible, thanks for a great birthday dinner delivery and the food’s great - lobster tail noodles, chilli crabs and delicious satay!
Thank you!
J. L.
This restaurant might be new, but my goodness it is well worth the dine-in. Such a memorable place - I have dined here quite a few times now. The chefs at Tian38 have clearly put in an incredible amount of hours into expanding and translating traditional Cantonese/Chinese cuisine into modern delectable dishes. It is clear that the highest quality produce is used in these creations, which is always a winner. The restaurant has an all round great vibe, with the dim lighting and balanced decor giving the place a warm and classy feel. Thanks Tian38 for always making dining in a pleasurable experience!

Came here for lunch by myself, after hearing a few positive review of their chinese roasts
The roast was ok but the (chicken) rice is way to moist to the level that went you put a spoonful in your mouth, it is like a paste.
The roast duck was good, but part of the skin fall off, so probably better chopping skill haha, roast pork was nice and crispy, but bbq pork was only ok. And it comes with an egg as well. Overall, they were good but nothing extraordinary
Lunch price for the 3 combo roast with rice is $23, a bit higher than the usual Chinese bbq place but I guess reasonable considering the environment and location and you can try all 3 of their roasts at once with that price.
Though considering price, they should work on some of the detail.
When I got their I was told the last seat was taken by the person in front of me and may have to wait for 20mins which is fine, so I put my name down and went for a coffee and came back.
However, when I got back I was put next to the person who were in front of me, which the seat was empty/available when I initially got there, so why make me wait for 20mins? Also there were other empty seats after I sat down and looked around, not sure were they reserved or cause I was a single person.
Anyway I don’t mind sitting at counter or bar seats, but it wasn’t just the counter it was their cashier. Not a great place to eat when people would pops up behind you and start talking over your shoulder to pay for their bills.
Though the staff who took mine was attentive and professional. And the bar staff was nice as well when I ask them for some ice for the water.
(This can be a bit skeptical but considering their market position and the price, you should expect them to have filtered water or at least iced but no)
Quickly finished my meal and leave.
So one star for the roast, one star for the environment and one star for the staff who took my order.

When I first walked past Tian 38, I thought it looked good - but it's much more than that. The restaurant's contemporary take on the food of Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore is outstanding. I was treated to a vegetarian version of the venue's paired food and cocktail banquet and loved every bite and sip.
The Tian Sling was a favourite, featuring a subtle earthiness from shiitake-infused vodka. It paired well with my oyster mushroom "scallops", which I followed up with a creamy corn take on the restaurant's traditional shrimp toasts.
While I did eat a lot of vegetarian alternatives, I did also get to try a few of the "naturally" vegetarian menu items including the sticky, sweet Kung Pow cauliflower and umami-blasted truffle fried rice. For obvious reasons I didn't try the popular crab jaffle, but from the looks on my codiners' faces and the taste of my tofu rendition, I can guarantee that's also a must try.
I tried so many great cocktails that it's hard to list a favourite, but I think the Mandarin sour may take the cake. Speaking of cake, do not leave Tian 38 without trying the Taromisu. It's got such a light, delicate cream and beautiful flavour from the lilac coloured root vegetable.
But really, everything on the menu is a hit and the service is just as good. I can't wait to go back for a meal in one of the intimate and charming back dining rooms.
C. D.
I order from here almost everyday, I love the staff here when I've gone into the restaurant. On two occasions with two different staff members, one a young gentleman and the other young lady, I am sorry but I didn't get your names! I wish I had! These two staff members are a benefit to your restaurant. I have never felt more welcome than when I come into Tian 38. I will always choose this restaurant over others purely because of how I am treated when I come in.
The ambience in this restaurant is amazing as well and the decor is **FABULOUS**. Thank you so much for everything, I appreciate all aspects of this restaurant.
Looking forwards to seeing you all again soon. :)
J. T.
I love the food and ambience. Excellent customer service. Will definitely go again soon to try other dishes.
A. L.
Been here a few times now and it has never disappointed. My most recent visit was an invite to try the CNY auspicious menu. Seven delicious items ranging from Yee Sang (tossing of salad) to lobster tail w. E-fu noodles. The masterstock pork belly was melt in your mouth and the Hainan chicken is silky smooth. Great place to try modern chinese that still remains true to its roots.

For a unique and delicious take on Singaporean food, this is the place to be.
From the moment we stepped inside, we could tell that no expense was spared to dress up the space to the nines. It is a restaurant where you can feel both luxurious but still casual and comfortable.
We ordered some uniquely tropical mocktails without knowing what to expect with ingredients like galangal and coconut together, and longan and mint, but they were very refreshing and delicious. We enjoyed entrees of a South East Asian twist on the classic Japanese dish of tuna tataki and what could possibly be the best salted egg yolk sauce in Melbourne on chicken wings. These were followed by juicy clams in a mouth-watering XO sauce and you tiao (I'd be wholly satisfied if I had just a bowl of the sauce and you tiao/mantou to dip into it) and a fragrant, unami-filled bowl of mushroom truffle fried rice (again, I'd happily dig into a bowl of this by itself with nothing else). The meal was finished off with desserts, the pandan gelato made in house with real pandan leaves, and Singaporean take on the mango pudding - if you're looking for a yum cha style pudding, this isn't it, but that's not a bad thing.
You can tell that this is a restaurant that is proud of the food that they serve up and we will definitely be back for more!
L. D. C.
Succulent juicy Hainanese chicken, steamed to perfection, XO Pipis with chinese Doughnut (yao tiew) and Kung po styled eggplant. Gave the place a try cuz it was in Zomato Gold... and it was a place worth going back again. Not only the food was good, service is good too. Don't let the bar-feel fool you and think this place serves only bar food. Yes the place looks like a fancy asian fusion place but if you actually read the menu, it's just a fancy chinese restaurant with a bar to kickstart your nights with a fancy price. But with Zomato Gold, its 15% off total bill if paid via the app. Will definitely go again to try their lunch time specials. It is pricey... but you get good food and service!

Nice staff and nice dishes there. Although it’s a bit pricy and the waitress did not tell us that the sparkling water is 8 dollars, it’s still a nice restaurant to visit. ;)
M. G.
Hands down one of my favourites restaurants for modern asian food - the Singaporean crab jaffles is a must have dish, along with their hainanese chicken rice, but to be honest, can’t wrong with the delicious food and generous portions! The cocktails are diverse and seriously tasty - can’t recommend Tian 38 highly enough.
A. K.
Delicious modern asian food loved the hainanese chicken rice. Chilli crab Jaffle and taro tiramisu are one of the best interpretations around!
Hard not to love the beer and cocktail mix here on friday nights as well.
C. T. L.
I love their chicken satay the satay sauce is spot on, the char koey tiao not bad, if left longer in hot wok to create more char then would be best. For dessert, the pandan gelato is so delicious, could be more presentable by adding just a little garnish on a plate.
J. B.
One of the best restaurants to get quality Chinese food. We went all out on the roast meat options, braised pork and mapo tofu. I must say it was decent and would definitely comeback to try other dishes!
K. D.
I recently had lunch with a friend that I used to work with. We decided to try Tian 38 on Little Bourke Street, which is located close to Flinders Street Train Station, as this establishment had been recommended by a work colleague of my friend. The décor at Tian 38 is modern and stylish and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable. The food was of very high quality and reasonably priced. My friend had the Vegetarian Rice Noodles and I had the Tian 38’s Signature Hainan Chicken Rice (steamed chicken). The Hainan Chicken Rice was absolutely delicious. This is the first time that I have had this dish and it won’t be the last. My friend was also impressed with the dish that he ordered. I would highly recommend Tian 38 and will be having lunch again at this restaurant.
P. D. H.
Good food, great atmosphere, a bit on the pricey side, I would give 5 stars if the waiters/waitresses were more attentive.
K.
10/10, Great service, Great Food, Great Ambiance. Would come here everyday if I can. Have to try the Chicken rice. Although the place is a bit too small for larger group, make a booking if you can, because they do get crowded during lunch time.
A. &. J.
🦀Our first dish was the Singapore chilli crab panko jaffles and right off the bat, this was so delicious! It was nicely crisped on the outside and cheesy on the inside! It took us by surprise and we were very keen on trying this! ($16.00 for 2pcs)
🥟The XLB were great, they got cold quite quick (as they would) but very nice and soupy on the inside and the flavour and texture was just right ! Need to always get the xlb when you have the chance. ($12.00 for 6pcs)
🥟We got the dumpling platter and the shumai and vegetarian dumplings were our favourite out of the 4 flavours. The other two were har gows but in different colors (they were pretty similar). We recommend trying something like this on your first visit here as you can taste a variety of their lunch dumplings. ($22.00 contains 8pcs)
🍚The mushroom truffle fried rice was delicious! And it was just as we expected but still, was perfect! The flavour wasn’t too overwhelming and since we love our mushrooms, we couldn’t stop eating this. ($19.00)
🍜 Lastly we had the three combination roast with egg noodles. This one was a bit disappointing since these guys looked like they were known for their roast meats. The roast pork was quite dissatisfying, the skin was not crispy at all but instead very chewy (which really ruins the taste of a nicely done roast pork..). The char sui was pretty much just fat and no meat.. The roast duck was probably the only one decent but even then, sadly, we have had better duck elsewhere. It was a below average dish for us but there were definitely more positives than negatives with our experience with Tian 38! ☺️☺️ ($22.00)
M. D.
Great little place for lunch/date. The serving sizes are quite large and it tastes pretty good too. Usually most of the asian restuarants are stingy when it comes to meat ratio, but not this place. I guarentee that you ll leave this place satisfied. Price -3 Quantity - 5 Quality - 4 Ambience -5 Overall value for money - 4.5
S. C.
Friendly staff. Excellent food. The BBQ pork was top notch for the price.
O. X.
Ordered take away from Tian 38 tonight. Oh boy that was some great flavours there. I thoroughly enjoyed the chilli crab and cheese jaffle, possibly the best jaffle I have ever had! The Sichuan fragrant eggplant was so yummy as well. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. Just so much textures! Also had a Chow kuay teow which was very nice! Can't wait for the lockdown to finish so I can try more dish with friends!
I. P.
Celebrated my second lockdown birthday with an simply awesome Chicken Rice & Crab Jaffles!!! Loved the Martini as well!! Been to Tien38 multiply times, great cousins and fabulous crew !!! My favourite modern Asian fusion restaurant!
T. T.
great vibe, nice ambience. food was delicious and the flavours are as close as you can get, the smell brought me back to Singapore, the staff are attentive and courteous
S. D. A.
The food and cocktails are amazing. On a busy Saturday night, the food was served promptly. Everything we ordered was great. Highlights include the Mushroom Truffle Fried Rice, Cauliflower, Beef Skewers and the Spicy Prawn and Pork Wontons.
Alan and the team are very professional, humble and accommodated us very well!
We are definitely coming back!
A. P.
Authentic Chinese-Singaporean cuisine with their unique twist.
One of those gems that brings Melb CBD to life. Definitely coming back soon 🙂
S. R.
Highly recommend! Food is delicious especially the spicy prawn & pork wontons! Very attentive & friendly staff. The entertainment with Keyboard Kev on Thursdays is definitely worth the visit.
M. N.
Surprisingly very good. I like many people see fancy looking Asian restaurants and think they are more look than taste, but I was very surprised. The wood fired Peking duck is amazing, the surprise hit was the asparagus and the beef noodles were great. The most surprising part of it was the cost; only 88 for 2 including drinks. Service was top notch, and had friendly chats with waiters. Will definitely go again.
J. R.
The atmosphere is laid back and modern for a Cantonese restaurant.Highly recommend the Wood Smoked Peking Roast Duck.
G. S.
Truly delightful. Generous serves, great flavours and very comfortable ambiance. Can't fault it. We will be back!
L. W.
Food was good... but staffs need training how to treat customers...courtesy and all.. the Indian looking guy in white shirt is the friendliest and polite one.
D. W.
Food is delicious and will be back
X. Z.
Bit pricy compare to its food quality. Ordered Hong Kong banquet, egg plant and salted egg chicken wings. Salted egg chicken wings is ok. Egg plant don’t order it, total failure. Barramundi too sweet. Clam with donut too salty.
M. O.
Came here on Sunday for a lunch and ordered the chicken satay, Peking duck, lobster noodles and salted egg yolk prawns.
The good: the ambience was nice with friendly and helpful staff. The salted egg yolk prawns were really good and so was the chicken satay and Peking duck. We ordered the half serving for the duck for 3 people and it was plenty.
The bad: the lobster noodles was not so good. The lobster tasted a bit fishy, almost as if it was slightly undercooked. The noodles are a little chewy and the sauce was rather salty as well. The Peking duck and satay sauce were just a tad too salty for my liking as well.
It's not a cheap place but I wouldn't mind going back again to try other dishes.
E. C.
We went, we saw, we ate, we drank and my was it good. Not usually a fan of Chinese food myself this experience of fusion changed my mind and my tastebuds. As well as being greeted by a bit of a babe in the form of the host (a Bristolian) the experience made me feel like we had stepped into Colonial Hong Kong, where East meets West yet maintains a modern funky feel through the styled decor.
The food was all delicious, and if you like a bit of a kick to your food my recommendation is defiantly the Laksa. It was very tasty with some cheeky unexpected spice, with the pork belly and Hainan chicken coming in as a close second.
And finally the drinks, the Golden Mandarin Sour was something i would describe as a delicate triumph 12/10.
I cant wait to re-visit and further develop my palate for Chinese food, drink my way through the cocktail menu and see if I can get a number.
S. R.
I couldn't recommend Tian38 more highly. The decor and overall setting internally was beautiful, the staff I couldn't recommend highly enough. Our waitress was informative, attentive (without being over bearing) and extremely pleasant! Lastly the food - it was fresh, flavoursome and literally left you wanting more.
We will definitely be back and I will be recommending it to anyone who asks me about restaurants in the city.
e. l.
Food was good as usual. Ordered the peking duck as always as it is my favourite dish of the restaurant. this time, unlike my previous visits, they provided enough spring onion for onion lovers. i've been to tian 38 many times and tried their bottomless yumcha as well as other dishes. No other dish has really created an impression, execpt the peking duck. Their yumcha was really average, but I think they abandoned it, so no need to go further. Just to note if you are hoping for the nicest xiaolongbao, you probably better off finding it off in dumpling restaurants than in tian 38. Stick to their roast meats, and nothing can go wrong :) Love their roast meats. Intiallly this review was about them not giving me the right receipt for melbourne money rebate but as they did follow up on it, thought I might edit it to give fairer review
Y. W.
Love the atmosphere, the friendly service and also the foods!
When you enter, there is an automated temperature checkpoint which I find it cool.
The hainanese chicken rice is spot on! It's tasty and there are 3 different sauces to dip your chicken in.
The place is quite spacious and the staff is very attentive. I will go back to try different menus next time!
K. O.
This place is amazing!!! The food is so incredibly yummy! The truffle rice - omg. Peking duck yum! Salted egg prawns, just wow! The cocktails are next level. I’m honestly so impressed with this place. Awesome staff, vibe and tunes too. Highly recommend. No wonder my Asian friends love this place so much.
V. L.
We enjoyed the butter prawns, the eggplant dish and peking duck. Highly recommend.
The downside was we got served raw dumplings that made us feel sick after. It was such a shame cause we were really enjoying everything else. The manager apologized and took it off our bill. He served us complimentary cooked dumplings a second time. I still came back again with a different group of people and have to say it's still worth it.
K. R.
Amazed with the food, exceeded expectations in terms of flavour and serving size at a great price. Romantic atmosphere but can get a little loud not suitable for a quiet dinner. Highly recommend will come again to try more dishes!
M.
Good food and good service. Wish chicken rice comes with soup like in Singapore.
E. B.
Delicious! Great customer service with cooking actions happening at this beautiful open kitchen behind the bar .great place for date night out .
D. W.
Chill crab & salted egg crab was bomb, the cauliflower was really nice too. Would always come back 👌
J. G.
Very well decorated and presented, the food and drinks were incredible, well presented and tasted sensation and also at a very good price. Walked away with definite value for money. The staff were amazing also, cannot fault this place. Will definitely be coming back.
A. R.
Great food, great drinks! Everything was fine until it was time to pay. We finished eating and we were walking from our table looking for where to pay, and one of the waitresses, the one with the blonde hair made a remark insinuating that my friend and I were going to leave without paying. I was in disbelief and one of the servers noticed the look on my face and informed me that that specific waitress is always rude to everyone and that’s how she is. When going to pay, I asked her if she really thought we’d leave without paying and she said maybe, and I asked her if she asks all the other customers who have visited the restaurant the same question and she said no, so I asked her if the reason she asked us if we were leaving without paying was because of our skin colour because we are black and she said it was a joke. As a person of colour, this is honestly so disappointing. In a city that is multicultural, we’d expect to be comfortable in eating at any restaurant and not being given backhanded racist remarks. We already experience little micro aggressions everywhere we go, and now even in such a nice establishment we experience the same? I would say please get this fixed, for the sake of people like me who would visit.
s. n.
Enjoyed the tender hainanese chicken rice ( chilli and ginger sauce is the best I have tasted in Melbourne), satay and the mixed meat platter. Friendly staff and very pleasant environment. Will come back for more.
R. N.
Came here for a bottomless brunch. The drinks came out incredibly slow, which is usually the downside to an 'unlimited drinks' within a time slot package. The food was really tasty! I honestly can't fault anything other than the slow bar service. Would definitely come again.
x. d.
The food here was amazing! My favourite dish was the truffle fried rice in which was full of flavour. My partner and I loved every dish served to us. The staff are professional and the vibe of the restaurant was lovely. Great place for a date night and also a birthday 😍
S. F.
Food was very nice. Enjoyed dinning at this place
Best meal ever.
D. T. S.
One of the best Singapore and Malaysia food I have tried in Australia. Love the Satay and Hainan chicken , i highly recommend Tian38 to everyone. They also have very friendly staff.
R. I.
What an awesome restaurant with high quality (and generous) food. Ordered the congee and it was delicious. Definitely coming back again.
J. S.
Great food! Probably one of the best service you'll find in the CBD.
J. M.
Awesome food and great wine! The duck, pork belly and eggplant were all amazing. Highly recommended!
M. N.
The ultimate favourite at Tian 38 has got to be their hainanese chicken rice, the flavours are on point and the chicken is cooked to perfection. Their pipis with chinese donut makes a great combination. Amazing service and the food is good.
E. G.
Beautiful place, modern with Asian influence. Great drinks, nice range of wine (some of them from my hometown - great picks!) and the food... OMG! Divine! Highly recommended
S. R.
Ordered Tian38 delivery during the lockdown in Vic. Food was excellent and delivery on time by the owner himself.
Banquet for 2 was good value. Had the Wagyu Beef Ribs Rendang. It was awesome, so tender and melts in your mouth. Golden egg chicken wings is nice too. Meal came XO fried rice and truffle mushroom fried rice, veg and dessert.
Highly recommended.
A. D.
I can only review the food as I ordered takeaway. however, the venue was in immaculate condition when I came to pick up my order of Crispy Skin Cantonese Roast Pork with Rice and the 'Taro' Misu.
I only have raving reviews for the taste of the food. Beautiful flavours, so similar to food I grew up with. The pork is salty but the sweet dipping sauce provided gives this awesome flavour bomb.
But the real winner was the 'Taro' Misu. Not too sweet itself but has these white chocolate crumbs to provide a nice dose of sweetness.
Can't wait to comeback and dine-in after lockdown.
p. m.
The food was so amazing also the staff was wonderful especially 'Amy' he was so friendly and took great care for us. Thank you for the best experience in Melbourne! I'll suggest everyone!!
J. H.
Alan is a sweetheart! He personally delivered the food to my door and holy smokes. Even take away the food is amazing!! Chicken rice is as good as Singapore!! Really really really generous serves too. Tick tick tick tick!
A. L.
Very nice food. Good customer service. Very modern/fusion renovation and decoration restaurant. Reasonable price. Highlights are they use Victoria Coffee Cups for Chinese Tea and listening House Music while having Chinese cuisine which is what I like most. But down side is setup is bit too packed and Chinese Tea needs some uplift. Overall very nice experience.
K. Y.
Nice food but a bit pricey for what it is. Service is very good though
S. C.
My wife and I were looking for something special to celebrate our birthday together. So, we decided to order the Singapore Chilli Crabs, Lobster Noodles and Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken from Tian38. Not only was the food absolutely delicious (especially the Chilli Crab which was super authentic!), but the team went an extra mile by adding a birthday note and an amazing dessert. Thanks so much for making it a remarkable and unforgettable birthday, guys! We can’t wait for things to open again to dine-in at your restaurant. Thanks again Tian38.
J. P.
Haven't been yet, but I will as soon as the 5k limit is lifted. 5 stars are for providing meals for those in need - visa holders etc. 200 a night! Wonderful people. Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity.
A. C.
Was at this restaurant with my family of 5 for dinner. Feels good with their nice decoration with a mixture of Chinese and western design.
We called the steamed chicken, cereal huge prawns, pipi and fried rice. The dishes with the exception of pipi was great and delicious. The bills are also reasonable.
K. P.
Great experience, and delicious food. Favourites were the salt and pepper squid and the wagyu skewers. Didn't try the duck pancakes myself but everyone else on the table loved them. The Magic Monkey mocktail is a must (for all coconut and pineapple lovers)!
Pricier than your usual cheap Chinese, but this is reflected in the quality of food and ambience.
P. Y.
During this covid-19 times I’m so glad I am still about to get my hainanese chicken fix. I ordered a full hainanese chicken, honey glazed bbq char sui pork and chilli crab and cheese jaffe. The hainanese chicken was tender and the char sui pork was not overly sweet just the way I like it. I was pleasantly surprised about the chilli crab and cheese jaffe as I ordered to taste test. It was golden and crunchy full of flavours and will definitely order this dish again.
Once these restrictions are lifted I am planning on visiting the restaurant until then I will continue to order from this place through their food delivery service. Highly recommend.
P. P.
This is definitely the Asian Fusion restaurant to watch for. I've been there for lunch and dinner 3 times in a month. Food is spot on and the service is always attentive and personable. I sense great team work and a drive to high standards. I wish them well as I will be coming regularly!
J. T.
Great food and nice cosy environment, would recommend to go again
S. D.
I absolutely love this place! It is so difficult to find restaurants that cater to coeliac. Chef Alan catered to our dietary requirements and has a complete understanding of coeliac disease. We were a group of 6 and had a modified banquet which was exquisite! The cocktail menu is amazing and the atmosphere is fantastic. This has become my new go to place! If you haven't tried this place you're missing out!
B. L.
Amazing ambiance and setting. Very classy and intimate. The waiters were very accommodating and helpful. The savoury dishes were quite average but the fried ice-cream dessert was amazing.
A. H.
Staff are super helpful and friendly! I love the xo fried rice, my fav! Must try for sure. Environment is great for both big groups. We even come here during weekdays for dinner. The slated egg dish is great too! Good job
M. D.
Soo good
Everything 10/10
Met the owner great genuine person
Food out of this world
A. K.
Great team, ambience is hip and stylish. Food is high quality, elegant and refined, with a modern take on Cantonese cuisine. Cocktail program is classic but sophisticated, making it an all-round sensory experience. Overall, Tian38 brings to Melbourne a new culinary and cocktail adventure that rivals the best globally.
B. L.
Recently had dinner at this fantastic restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed the creativity in the dishes available in particular the chilli crab jaffles which were amazing! The rest of the dishes were executed very well and had plenty of flavour. Would definitely visit again!
J. P.
One of the best hainanese chicken rice and chilli crabs in Melbourne
V. P.
Great good value dishes, that are sooo yummy!!! The truffle fried rice, mixed meat and taromosu are really good. I also love how these guys helped
W. H.
We held our wedding at Tian 38 over the weekend and the experience was first class. The venue was beautiful, intimate for 70 guests, the staff made the experience stress free and many of the guests said "that was the best wedding food we have ever had."
c.
Tucked in Flinders Lane, decorated with modern Chinese elements and western table setting. Have tried the dan dan cold noodle on a hot day. It was refreshing with pickled carrot and daikon, dressed with sesame-tahini dressing, and garnished with fried wonton skin, a good balance of tanginess and crunchiness. The Hokkien chow mein was full of 'wok hei', but it's more of a char kuey teow style in noodles than dark sauce Hokkien noodle in KL. Still a thumbs up for taste. Pleasant dining environment with soft jazzy music background. Staffs are enthusiastic and smiley.
D. L.
Amazing place beautiful food and the barramundi was aaaagggg amazing and Alan the Chef is just so divine and Desmond the head waiter was lovely and treated us like kings s for queens especially trying to sell us $450 wine 🤪😂 our place to go to in Melbourne
l. 1.
What An amazing restaurant with amazing food!! Food quality and taste is to die for. Not to mention to awesome array of cocktails available. Can’t wait to return!!
I.
Awesome crab experience. Y’all need to try the chicken rice, it’s where it’s at!!!
D. Y.
Good food; great service, attentive staff. Will definitely go back. Glad to be able to support a business that supported the broader Melbourne community through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
J. A.
Amazing new place in the city. Came here with my partner last Saturday night. The food is to die for and pairing it up with their cocktails is a match made in heaven. Highly recommended a visit and I will definitely come back again
T. B. Q.
fantastic service! Compliments to the manager who made a delightful cocktail based on my likings. The chilli crab jaffles and mushroom fried rice were also great!
s. h.
Food was amazing. PLEASE READ THIS IF U WANT TO USE ZOMATO GOLD. Regretfully I have to give 3 stars feedback because of an unpleasant experience dealing with one of the waiters, upon using Zomato Gold 1+1, a lady waiter (not to mention her smelly breath while talking to us, she was lightly raising her voice) She accused us trying to cheat the Zomato Gold system. She shouted "you're not allowed to cheat the system". People around us could hear her clearly. We weren't really.. All we wanted to do is to pay the bill for the Zomato Gold deal and order more food afterwards. A friendly supervisor rocked up at the end and sorted the problem. Thanks mr. supervisor! Being called a cheater while you only wanting to comply with Zomato Gold T&Cs was never a nice experience.
J. M.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Lovely ambience with a warm cosy feel. The food was exceptional. A must try if you are wanting modern Chinese cuisine that tastes and looks amazing.
J. B.
Considering lockdown service was good and the food filled me up so done it's job

Really good
F. C.
'Atas' Asian food, it is fairly pricey but it is high quality.
The peking duck is my favourite, the beef rendang is pleasant, and the eggplant is nice and flavourful. The truffle fried rice is always my favourite, but it is quite oily.
Service can be a bit slow during busy times, otherwise it is great and staff are very attentive to our needs.
They do keep improving over the years, which is a good thing to see! I wasn't too impressed with my first visit in 2020, but had a good time when I visited again in late 2021 - early 2022. Also bonus that I can use Liven to pay here!
D. M.
Top food, excellent staff, service and decor. Can't wait to go back. So many things on the menu I want to try.
