Trattoria Emilia is our favourite authentic Italian in Melbourne. We have been dining here regularly for a few years and have also ordered their home-delivered menu during Covid-lockdowns. The menu is seasonal and changes frequently which means there is always surprise and delight when we visit. The staff are lovely and knowledgeable. The venue is considered, homely and feels welcoming. Wine list — fabulous. We have had wondrous a la carte meals as well as incredibly thoughtful chefs menus. Trattoria Emilia is our forever favourite place to dine in Melbourne. Love, love!

A beautiful slice of Emilia Romagna in Melbourne. Van was absolutely wonderful and recommended great wine pairings for our meal. She was attentive and also made us aware of the ability to purchase the incredible olive oil used in the restaurant, made locally in Yea. The ragu was incredible and whilst I usually find myself disappointed when semi-freddo is offered as dessert, this dish blew us away with its depth of flavour and texture. We will be back!

If you are after traditional Italian food from one of the best foodie area in Italy, Trattoria Emilia is the right place. The place is very decorated and cozy, the staff well trained and able to answer to all the questions we had on the dishes we ordered. We got Gnocco fritto, tigelle with a selections of Salumi (a must in Emilia region) and Rosette with ham, mushrooms, truffle and fondue cheese. Don’t forget to try their Tiramisu (with croccante!) and Panna e Fragole, with white Japanese strawberries. We matched dinner with Pinot Noir and the house offered shots of homemade Limoncello. Like in a proper Trattoria. I am looking forward to coming back soon

Trattoria Emila is one of Melbourne's more special restaurants. It ticks all the right boxes for local hospo icon status: low key but high quality, a laneway location, bluestone construction, trend-free but undeniably stylish. The Italian restaurant and bar is named for the Italian Emilia-Romagna region sitting between Florence and Milan. One of my favourite food memories is of a particularly spectacular and unique antipasto platter some years ago. More recently I'm impressed by the wine list. For lovers of Italian wine, this is a destination for trying labels and styles from the length and breadth of the nation. It was at Trattoria Emilia that I learned to give Moscato another chance thanks to an aromatic dry Moscato by Cantine Pupillo.

This was an unfortunate experience for myself. We came here on the reccomendation of my sister, who told me this was a 1 hat restaurant with amazing service. I'm not sure whether it was just this night, but I found my experience to be quite sub par. The food itself was undeniably delicious - it tasted incredible. The Service, however, wasn't that great; we purchased white wine which was left on our table to go warm, our water glasses were regularly empty and we barely saw our waiter throughout the night. Tucked away in a small alley giving off that lovely authentic Italian vibe. Not to mention, this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous inside! It managed to hit that perfect balance between traditional and contemporary style. Very professional staff as well. The only downside last time I visited was music (top 40 pop...) but this time, they changed it to jazz which complemented the elegant vibe it offered. FYI, couldn't believe we got the same table as the last time! I also love how they give out free bread wiyh the meal w/ olive oil. We ordered the following: Vitello Tonnato ($20) - Poached veal with tuna mayo, and caper; mad proper but I feel like tuna mayo was slightly overpowering. Tagliatelle Bolognese ($26) - essentially ragù pasta except it's so much better than one you make at home lol. Definitely up there. Tortelloni Modenesi ($29) - their signature; stuffed w/ Mortadella, Prosciutto, Parmeasan with aged Modena balsamic drizzled on top. MUST HAVE! (FYI, they also have secret 'off menu' dish called Tortellini in Brodo - tiny tortellini in flaoursome broth. More suitable for winter but defintely worth a try if you haven't!) A bit sad knowing that this place is getting more popular now that it's been awarded a chef's hat for the second year in a row. A perfect place to come with your date or even with your friends for a fancy dinner

I initially purchased a packaged pork and beef lasagne from this establishment about a week ago. Completely understanding the hand make every single one of their products, this particular lasagne seems to have missed out on being a little bit sauced. Upon sending through one inquiry, Trattoria Emilia responded and offered to send through replacements literally the day after. I’m still literally in shock that I received an email response from the company let alone such quick, kind and incredible customer service! in times like this, it’s so important to support small businesses, especially the ones willing to go the extra mile. I look forward to patronising this restaurant frequently upon its reopening and would recommend their food and their customer service to literally anyone. I’m completely in thoroughly in all and impressed by the way they carry themselves as a business.

It seems very small when you just look at the entrance, instead there is a world inside. The actual trattoria/restaurant is separated from the little coffee side from a glass which indicates where the dining room is located. Both sides are nice. The restaurant is quite big. The cafe area is quite small but lovely. Staff is nice and precise. Good selection of teas and they are tea leaves. Nice selection of pastry too. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a good hidden and not too much touristic place in the CBD area, since it's super close to Flinders station.

After 16 years in Melbourne how have I not come across this gem of a restaurant before. Our friends booked for a meal for the 4 of us on a Friday evening at 6.30 and every table was taken. We had the 3 course fixed menu which gives you a choice of about 4 dishes from each starter, main and dessert. Every mouthful was truly delicious as was the complimentary bread all accompanied by great wine. Do yourselves a favour and treat yourself. You won't be disappointed

Absolutely love this place. Reminds me of traditional, proper Italian restaurants in Italy and the food is the closest thing to the original in Italy too. We used to love this restaurant. Unfortunately it seems the quality has gone downhill. The porcini lasagne was disappointing. The mushrooms did not appear to be porcini mushrooms at all. They looked and tasted like tinned mushrooms. The other dishes were a bit lacklustre also. I hope this was a one off.

One of the best places to eat in Melbourne... Everything about the place felt authentic. The service exceeded my expectations. My partner and I were looked after by such a lovely staff (with the cutest Italian accents!). They have a place for your jackets and umbrellas which was helpful... The menu had a gorgeous selection, we went with the Valentine’s Day set menu and were not disappointed. The food was rich in flavor and perfect portion sizes, we were so full by dessert. The Prosecco was beautiful. You might miss this place if you’re walking down the street, it is in an alley. It’s a hidden gem, everyone should go here at least once. Definitely recommend.

Great little slice of Emilia Romagna in the heart of the Melbourne cbd. Highlights were definitely the freshness of the bread (which just kept coming!), the intimate atmosphere and the best octopus I've ever tasted. Getting the seasonal tasting selection was worth it and they accommodate a wide variety of dietary requirements which was good. Slightly pricey but it's worth it. Will be definitely be going back.

The space and the service is first class. However, we were let down by the food. The vongole, mussel and bottarga pasta was missing acid to counteract the umami flavours. The tortellini modenisi had too many intense flavours with nothing standing from the richness, it was very salty. The tiramisu was trying to be too fancy, I liked the crunch but it wasn't a triamisu. Again service and environment were impeccable, the food does need work.

The bird ragu was a little bland and didnt really go well with the mushroom pasta. The slow cooked beef was fine by itself but the dish needed something for contrast. Maybe a stronger flavour in the jus. Excellent wine selection. Overall good food but very expensive for what you get. Edit as of june 2019: came back tonight with a group of 6. Ordered the spaghetti with the morton bay bug. As did the birthday girl. I dont know how they managed to ruin a simple meal but someone isn't tasting the food coming out of the kitchen. Again the service was amazing but the food has gone from ok, to bad. I'd suggest to skip this place. In case it doesn't show on the review last review was 9 months ago and was 4 stars.

Wow, this place is a hidden gem. We walked straight past it initially as the entrance is in a small alley although the street address is the main thoroughfare. Tonight was my second time here and once again all we had was fantastic. We had antipasto of baccola, vitallo tonnato, aranchini, beef caparchio with caramelized onions and zucchini fritters. All accompanied by a wonderful verduccio wine. Next we all had different mains. I had a barramundi fillet with most smooth and flavoursome skid ink sauce. The ravioli with veal ragu was tasty and the soft, glassy pasta formed around the spinach and ricotta filling beautifully. While another had a perfectly executed pork loin with raddicio and carrot. The caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella foam is one of the best examples of this dish around. I will be back soon.
