Comments of Tulum Turkish Restaurant

Tulum is like that relationship you have been searching for. The food is reinvented. Designed by a genius. The owner chef's complete involvement in the entirely of the experience means you have his full attention when you are there. Every dish is an expression of himself and the pride and respect for his heritage. The attention to detail, the dedication to authentic flavours and the reinvention of this cuisine takes you by surprise and takes your breathe away. I left the restaurant with a determination to continue with this new love affair.

BabyChair is really necessary But they could not provide. So even the food is really good, family dinner is not friendly. My one year old baby girl only stayed in the baby pram and looked up at us. A bit poor. But the food is good.

I have been wanting to visit Tulum for months, but lockdown had other plans. I was finally able to visit yesterday, and the experience truly exceeded my expectations.
I ordered the Taste Of Tulum – 7 Course Degustation and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences in recent memory.
I could go into elaborate detail regarding each literally-crafted dish, but words truly wouldn't do it justice. I couldn't even choose a favourite, as they were all exceptional in their own right. Each time a dish came out, I was almost reluctant to eat it, as they resembled works of art.
The service was similarly admirable – I was treated warmly and courteously. The staff clearly take great pride in their cuisine and the storied history behind it. They applied my loyalty discount from The Fork without issue, and welcomed me back anytime.
If I had to nitpick the experience, I would offer the following as feedback:
· The chairs felt quite uncomfortable after the 1½+ hours for the degustation
· The bench needed dusting from where I was seated (next to the bar)
· The sparkling water tap emitted a very high pitched sound while it was turned on, which pierced my ears.
Needless to say, these are only areas for improvement; the overall experience was superb, and I'll definitely be back.

Amazing contemporary twist to dishes with unequivocal middle eastern flavours. Loved everything with lamb 🤤 We had the 7 course degustation, looking forward to trying a la carte when we visit next!

Mouthwatering 😋. My partner and I had the 6 course dinner off the degustation menu. The service was great; nice ambience and delicious food! A must go if you like fancy.

If it’s within your 5km lockdown travel limit head to the Tulum pop up. Fried Mussel sandwich is fantastic, Simit with cucumber feta and tomato delicious and if you’re lucky enough to score the sardines with rice you won’t be disappointed. Finish it off with a lemon tart and you’ve had a great day. All this beautiful food using quality ingredients is only enhanced by the super lovely people dishing it out. Don’t miss it and support small business.

- Charcoal Grilled Chicken Shish Sandwich $15 🐓🥖🧅
Got attracted by the crowd and the smokey flavour while strolling around Balaclava. For sure it is one of the best sandwiches I had recently. The chicken was beautiful charred, tender and succulent! It was served in a buttered and grilled bread along with onions and a special sauce! It was delightful to enjoy this sanga!
The pop up food truck is available only during lockdown!! Don’t miss out 😆

Beautiful Turkish dining experience. Staff were friendly and attentive.
We enjoyed the 7 course set menu and each dish was fantastic. The particular highlights for me were the Kayseri - Turkish Beef Dumplings
and the Mardin - Lamb Shoulder. The lamb was particularly tender and among the best I've eaten. The dessert sounded very unusual as it contained chicken but I was pleasantly surprised. If I hadn't had read the menu I would never have known.
I would love to come here again and try other dishes from their menu, but if you can't decide, the set menu is all around excellent.Highly recommend Tulum!

Had a set menu with matched wines, very high standard of food and service, impressed. All the courses were very tasty plus well presented and will definitely go back to try some different menu options.
Also, the cocktails are great here as well.
J. C.
The entrees were packed full of flavour, with the most memorable dish being the fried eggplant. There was so much zing with each bite!
Had the lamb as main and unfortunately it was a bit fatty and the portion size was very small. Appreciated that it came with 4 different sauces however I do think it may have been better to just focus on one.
Lastly for dessert, we went for the chicken and milk pudding which was lovely and a delightful way to end the meal.
C. B.
The food was incredible and the lady that looked after us was absolutely amazing. She recommended food and wine and everything was spot on.
R.
Absolutely blown away by the food here tonight.
It was so beautiful I didn't want to eat it.
Really refined and delicious and to top it all off the service was flawless.
This is what I call a gastronomic experience.
Highly recommend

One word to describe is “Exceptional”.
This isn’t a typical Turkish restaurant that serves beautiful humble food (nothing wrong with that as we love humble meals), this is what you see on MasterChef. It’s Turkish food with a modern technical twist that actually taste as amazing as it looks.
Amazing attentiveness from floor staff and exceptional delivery of a plate from the kitchen.
We enjoyed this amazing restaurant and will definitely be recommending to our friends.

Beautiful restaurant. Suitable for a date. Dark and cosy. Food presentation is wow. Very instagramable. It's not cheap but the price is fair. Waiters were very attentive and helpful with choosing dishes.

I had a wonderful experience at Tulum! Food was sensational, sophisticated and full of flavors. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Love the ambiance too. Really glad I’m ending the year with a bang at Tulum!!

We had Tulum on our must visit list and we finally got there last night. The food is sublime. Every dish we ordered had so many flavours and textures going on. As passionate foodies, we loved every mouthful and will definitely return to sample some more of the fascinating menu. Highlight for me was the egg with yogurt, chicken skin and burnt butter. Husband couldn’t go past the kibbeh and the beef short ribs. The space is lovely with warm welcoming lighting. Staff were friendly and very helpful explaining every dish in detail. Highly recommended. 😋
C. E.
The food was delicious! We had one of the banquets. Great flavours - love the different spices. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was warm, cozy and comfortable. Thank you to Tulum for a lovely evening!
J. A. L.
Exceptional service, incredible food (and cocktails!), great atmosphere. We’ve waited a long time for this and it was worth the wait. Had the prawn, sardines, leek and beef dumpling for entree. Swordfish and Lamb were our mains. Pomegranate sour cocktail. Couldn’t fault the food, rich but in perfect portions. Heads up for pescatarians the prawn dish has meat even though it’s not stated in the menu but I think they’re fixing that up, they were very happy to take it back and return me one pescatarian (I should have flagged my dietary requirement myself anyway). Can’t wait to go back.

We hadn't visited Tulum since their interior classy, rustic makeover and we loved it, what a great atmosphere! As expected we thoroughly enjoyed an outstanding Turkish dining experience having chosen their seven course Taste of Tulum. The textures and flavours were quite amazing and it was virtually impossible to choose a favourite dish!
S. M.
Great experience. Food was very tasty with amazing presentation. Service was outstanding, nice cocktails and ambience. Would definitely recommend!

Review: There were some clear highlights in our 7-course degustation meal (which costs about $100pp excl. cocktails):
BREAD: Tulum’s warm and crispy bread was so addictive that I had to stop myself from finishing more. They mentioned something about the customised butter there - the description escapes my memory!
SEAFOOD: Tulum executes seafood well. The oysters were paired with watermelon foam and pickled juice was an innovative and refreshing combination. The octopus dish was also my absolute favourite - I really enjoyed the flavours and texture.
LAMB: The lamb rump was topped with a little too much oregano, but was otherwise tender and paired well with the eggplant puree. Loved every bite of the kibbeh kofte too.
DESSERT: Even though it’s been 2 years, I still remember enjoying the rice pudding dessert that Tulum had. Just an absolute winner!! Unfortunately, this time we were served something else - I loved how palate cleansing the wild thyme cream was, and the bread pudding was delicious, but the texture of the candied pumpkin didn’t quite work for me.
Where the meal experience fell a bit short of expectations was in the service. We felt a bit rushed to finish the meal before the next seating, even though it was the kitchen that took a long time to prepare the dishes (rather than us being slow in finishing our courses). It will be helpful for the restaurant to understand the general duration of a 7-course degustation meal and adjust their booking slots accordingly so that everyone has a good dining experience. Towards the end of our meal, the waitresses seemed a bit rushed and did not explain the dishes we were having. Given that this was a birthday celebration, I expected more from Tulum! I have, however, been here for a Xmas dinner, and my experience then was much better.

Reserved a table for 1800 Friday night and was told to knave by 1930! It was not mentioned at the time of reservation. Lovely staff and food tastes ok, way too small portions and not enough to feed anyone with a $35 main course. Cocktails are very average. $110 for 2 (half price for food) and we were still hungry.
T. S.
It’s a solid 4 out of 5.
Tullum is an impressive modern Turkish restaurant. We enjoyed our lunch here today. It’s upmarket and it works. We started with the calamari with harissa, walnut and breadcrumbs. It was our dish of the meal as it had delicious flavour and texture. The lentil kofta with molasses and nasturtium was a good dish too as were the sardines with bay leaves, tarator and cucumber. Probably the weakest dish but by no means a bad one were the beef dumplings with maras pepper, yoghurt and burnt butter. The finishing savoury dish was a beauty though - beef ribs with labneh, date, tahini, celeriac purée. The combination was a beauty. We concluded with tahini and eggplant ice cream which was most unusual but really delicious.
We had Turkish wines today with our which were OK. I’ve never quite seen eye to eye with Turkish wines, either here or in Turkey itself. I find them a bit eccentric. When I come here again I think I’ll go for non Turkish wines.
Service was good here today. The staff were up and about and pleasant and responsive. we were given very good explanations of the key dishes. It’s a good restaurant. I’d happily return anytime.
a. m.
Great meal spoiled by a fast ending. Loved the food. Nice helpful team. Unfortunately we felt rushed out for the next table. Understand the economics but if you sell us a 7 course degustation with wine match at 7pm it’s not our fault if we’re still finishing it at 9:10. The pace of the meal was on you not us! Still recommend trying their food.
J. C.
Excellent, blown away by the amazing food. Must try the lamb main and calamari entree, and the entree with chicken skin was amazing (will not attempt any dish names...) Everything was well flavoured and very creatively put together. Will recommend!
A. C.
My favourite restaurant in the whole of Melbourne. Nothing more needs to be said, please come here and experience Tulum with your loved ones.
B. M.
Second time here and much better than the first.
We ordered the 7 course menu
Presentation, flavours and textures were all beautiful.
Our lovely waiter Chris was sublime and very hospitable. He introduced us to Chef Coskun, which was a delight.
Cheers Tulum

So much potential and promise but alas the stars didn't align for our party of four tonight. Some of the food was truely exceptional while others lacked seasoning and flavour punch.
Service was all over the shop even though it seemed very well staffed. There never seemed to be anyone looking after us and even though, when hailed down, staff were friendly nothing flowed how it should.
We did the set sharing menu and it started really strong but some of the dishes at then seemed like odd inclusions (two of the same meat dish when some of our party was vego?).
The dishes that did resonate with us were really wonderful and the wines were interesting and well priced. Looks like others have had a much better dining experience so I am still keen to give this guys another shot. Oh and make sure you select the octopus it's the best I've had.
S. K.
Overall good experience. Food was interesting and quite tasty. Service was good. Wouldn't recommend driving out to specifically go here but if in the area then definitely worth a visit.
A. K.
Had the most incredible food, a beautiful modern twist to Turkish food without compromising on flavour. The drinks were absolutely delicious as well, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. We were completely surprised that the owner and head chef Coskun was serving us and he didn't even mention who he was. He was so humble and kind. We discovered only after our meal who he was. It was so lovely to experience that. They were very accomodating of my pregnancy in terms of comfort and the food restrictions I was able to have. We were delighted that we were lucky enough to have been able to book a table on a Saturday night on the day. Highly recommend this restaurant and already been telling all our friends about this place. Would definitely visit again.
S. D.
Good service, great food, an owner/chef who takes time to speak to his diners - what more do you want? The kuzu/lamb was amazing and I recommend you try the dessert with chicken in it.
A. V.
Lovely restaurant and much more lively now that there is no longer a requirement for a set menu. The octopus was a stand out and so was the tahini dessert. Come and enjoy!
S. L.
Nice looking interior decor
Entree were very tasty
Mains were good but portions a little small
They ran out of some beers including their main Turkish beer
Dessert was good
Overall good but not exceptional
Service was adequate
Good value for money
A. A.
The food was amazing ,super delicious with complex flavours. I definitely recommend you friends to visit and try Tulum , they're also open for take aways during lockdown and the food they sell are really a must try.
C. M.
Loved it. Cosy restaurant. Service was polite and well mannered. The food was amazing. Hidden gem.
Z. H.
We had an excellent meal here with friends for our birthdays. The 6 course group menu was varied and delicious. The staff were really pleasant though we were surprised by how little our waiter knew about the wine pairing which some of the group did. The wine was really lovely though and great to try as it was all Turkish. The food was beautifully presented too. Would highly recommend this restaurant especially for a small group as it's fun to discuss all the food and try lots do things. The only thing we didn't like were the dumplings- poor meat to pasta ratio.
N. S.
Food was fantastic, had a really nice intimate interior and can smell the beautiful food as soon as you walk in. Wait staff were very friendly and professional. Had the 7 course degustation and food was amazing. Would highly recommend.
R. L.
Amazing food, good atmosphere and great service. Awesome selection of wine
R. S.
Had the degustation menu here and experienced original Turkish inspired fine dining. Prices were very reasonable and the service and ambiance was great. Very skilled and friendly wait staff matched the skilled culinary execution. Highly recommended. One of our top eats for the year.
E. A.
Sensational!!! Food with passion that you can taste and see! Great ambience too and a great outdoor vibe. Vegetarian friendly! In my opinion this review is the least I can do as this restaurant deserves to be well rated and tried by everyone.
N. S.
Absolutely sensational meal! Every dish was delicious, inventive and presented beautifully. The staff were all lovely, and knowledgeable about all the meals and wine. I can't wait to go back!
S. P.
Coskun's vision really comes alive at Tulum. The food is exquisite, colourful, flavourful and visually beautiful. A lot of thought and love has gone into every dish. Its a very special restaurant to me and I love nothing more than surprising loved ones with an evening out at Tulum.
B. G.
We tried different dishes and they’re all amazing.
Unique flavours and beautiful presentation but portions are small considering the prices. The place is small but cosy. Service was just okay.
E. T.
I have eaten here twice, excited by Yotam Otthelengi recommending it when he was in Melbourne (I'm an avid fan of his recipes and general food philosophy).
My rating here is not high, though I should state that is a very personal preference about the food. The setting is warm and rustic, which is my thing, and the waitstaff were knowledgeable without being overly formal, also great.
I thought the food was often beautifully presented, especially the sardine starter. I've heard the food here described as inspired by home cooking, but it was getting up to the molecular gastronomy end at times. And when it came to the eating, I found it all a bit fussy and overworked, with odd, over complicated flavour profiles at times (this was partly because I don't like so much sweetness in my savoury dishes, but I know many others do.) Textures, too, I wasn't enjoying at times, the fish main was a bit dry and some dishes seemed overcooked and mushy to my palate (though I think the texture was as intended, not in error).
So I think Tulum and I are just not a match. I'll just have to wait for Ottam to move to Australia and open a restaurant here 😉
D. K.
This restaurant can easily qualify in the World's Top 50. Every bite is a master piece!! The flavours and food combinations were absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go again and try more things.
J. O. A.
The food and cocktails are great! The six course food was amazing! The service is fantastic and the environment great!
B. J.
The best restaurant I've been in a while with some fantastic meals. Very friendly stay members and at a reasonable price. I totally recommend it
K. K.
Great variety of food. Turkish food with a modern twist!
A. M.
Delicious Turkish feast (takeaway during iso) with great options for vegetarian and meat eaters alike.
D. L.
We ordered the 5-course meal with wine pairing and a dessert. The quality of the ingredients and flavours were top-notch. Service initially was a bit rushed especially on a small table but our waitress was on top of it after the first couple entrées. The wine pairing was only ok. Great atmosphere as well. Happy to go back for a celebration-type meal or with a small group of foodies (perhaps up to 6).
J. B.
We enjoyed a lovely evening for 4 people at Tulum last night. The 7 course degustation was generous but not too big and they were able to work with certain dietary requirements with no problems. It was nice to try some wine from Turkey with our meal. It really was a delicious and relaxed evening and we look forward to trying their summer menu soon. Thanks for a lovely evening.
K. O.
Enjoy great food and great service. Good wine list with regional flairs. Rose from Turkey, you would be presently surprised. Very unfortunate dining room was bit dark and couldn't see beautifully cooked dish and vibrant colour.

Took my partner here to celebrate her successful PhD defence. We loved it. We had the vegetarian dishes and the egg (with the chicken skin on the side, A I don't eat meat) and enjoyed it all. A few people have said that their service was slow. We ate early on a weeknight and each dish was timed perfectly; like a couple of others, the chef came and told us about the dishes, and how he was inspired by his mothers cooking. All in all, a very nice experience.
R. F.
Relatively small portion but good presentation. There were only two main dishes to choose from on the day we went there. Outstanding service.
C. G. A.
Fish Sandwich and fresh boreks are top-notch, you will keep on coming back everytime!
D. T.
Food is amazing. My boyfriend and I are pescatarian, and they were able to cater the 6 course menu to our dietary needs. You have to get dessert. That bay leaf ice cream, with the spiced milk made me die, go to heaven, and come back to earth. It's clear that the kitchen loves what they're doing, and only the best gets through the pass to the patrons.
T. S.
Good food, poor service. Inquiring if a customer has enjoyed their meal is fine, once, when they have finished eating, not 5 times while they are eating. It became embarrassing.
Update!!
Visited again recently after hearing the menu had been tweaked and was pleasantly surprised. Food was excellent and they have obviously had a word to the staff. Helpful and attentive without crossing the line to annoying. Changing my rating from 3 to 5 stars!
K. H.
I'm puzzled at how polarised the reviews are for this place and how some people had such a bad experience. It was our first time at Tulum yesterday evening and we had a wonderful meal with attentive, knowledgeable service (from the French waiter from Lille) . Some of the drinks took a bit longer than expected, but it was a very busy night. The stand-out dish for me was the lamb kofte, the flavours were astonishing! Will definitely be going back.
PS. The Tulum cheese entree was also amazing!
T. M.
First time we went (mid-July), the food was stellar. Second time (late July), very good, but not as sublime. However, the menu is creative and everything we tried on both occasions was memorable. If they could catch whatever lightning was there on the first night in a bottle, it would have a week-long waiting list.
D. O.
Food is amazing - very tasty and a wonderful twist on traditional Turkish cuisine but with all the same yummy flavours you expect. Staff are also lovely and the ambiance is very relaxed. We had a wonderful time and would recommend a visit to Tulum!
M. O.
Great staff & service, lovely meal but wouldn't say it was outstanding. The presentation was excellent but flavours were a bit hit & miss.
M. H.
I've been to Tulum twice now and am looking forward to my next visit. The food is a delight. Turkish but unlike any other Turkish food I've eaten. It is subtle and powerful at the same time. I'd give a lot to know how to prepare that egg. The staff are excellent, having that wonderful balance between friendly and so professional.
B. G.
Where do I start!
The exquisite flavours we experienced, the Turkish Reds that matched the beautiful varitiys or dishes we encountered, the excellent chef that explained several plates to us in a way that had us excited for more or even the exposed brickwork on the internal walls that gives it a rustic, relaxed comforting feeling!
My wife and I found this one of the best restaurants we’ve been to in our travels so far.
The flavours worked in such a way that every mouthful was a absolute delight and somewhat of a adventure as we made our way though the mixed dishes that were elegantly delivered to our table with precision timing.
The staff.
From the greeting at the door to the shake of the hand from the chef at end of the night was outstanding and left us with a fulfilment in such a way that we can’t recommend Tulum highly enough to any locals or visitors to the area.
Thanks again Tulum, it was a absolute delight!
L. M.
We had a lovely dining experience with 7 of our friends at Tulum. We had two friends with dietary requirements and the staff went above and beyond to cater for these. A very memorable night for us all! Thank you
S. R.
First experience sharing a bowl of soup with a stranger. We were a party of 8 so had the set menu. The first course was a cold soup which we had to share between two people! It was very strange as I had never met the person sat across from me before dinner that night. Atmosphere was nice. Staff were okay. Did not leave feeling overly satisfied.
J. R.
I took my partner to Tulum for dinner last night and was blown away by the quality of food and the service! We went on a Wednesday night which meant there was a chef's special of three courses for $50pp. After telling the friendly waiter that my partner is celiac, he told us that "every dish can be made gluten-free" which any celiac would know is incredibly hard to come by!
After our delicious three courses of traditional Turkish dishes with a modern twist the chef personally came out to ask us if we enjoyed the food, which we promptly agreed. He said to us something that stuck with me: "we designed our menu not by the chef's egos but by what people want to eat, we have nots available without gluten and lots of vegetarian dishes".
Overall we had a fantastic evening and can't wait to return.
B. L.
One of the best restaurants that I have been to. Food was amazing, extremely tasty and the service was really friendly. I was delighted with the advice I was given about my wine choice by the guy who was helping in the bar.

We were fortunate to get a last minute booking for Tulum on a Friday night, and it was worth the effort.
Every dish we ordered was great. Grilled eggplant with a delicious black sesame tahini, Jerusalem artichokes with artichoke chips and some wonderfully grilled prawns with the chef's mother's special sauce. The coffee roasted olives sounded a bit weird, but the flavours really worked. And the beef cheeks, oh so good. They just fell to pieces on the plate, and came with a wonderful corn and Tulum cheese accompaniment.
The wine list was great too, including some Turkish options.
The service was a bit haphazard last night, it seemed like maybe someone had called in sick, but the chef came out to greet everyone and ask how the meal was.
Overall, the food was great, and for what we ate (and drank) it was great value. Highly recommended!
L. S.
I was so excited to check out Talum for the first time but unfortunately I left feeling somewhat disappointed. We had the 7 course degustation which was a bit hit and miss. Majority of the dishes, even the desserts were over overpowered with cumin and other spices which was a shame as it spoiled the flavours. Our table was divided by the experience...half the group rated it and the rest of us were slightly underwhelmed. I would probably go back and just do the al a carte as there were so many interesting looking dishes on there that I didn’t get to try.
D. T.
Taste Of Tulum 7 Course Degustation was an unexplainable experience, one MUST try.
I walked in with the intention of trying anything that came my way (being a fairly picky eater), and boy was I blown away.
Each dish was so exoticly flavored, with an explotion of tantalizing flavours with each and every mouthful.
Being of Turkish background and familiar with specialties of different cities, even I was left speachless... So much so, I had to stop by the kitchen to personaly thank the chef and his team.
Service was thorough and attentive by one individual inparticular, which added a positive ambiance, to a space so warm and prettyful.
Highly recommend and will most certainly be back to enjoy a whole new journey ( or even the same!). 😊

Food was delicious, amazing variety of flavours! Calimari and lamb kuzu were the highlights. Inconsistent portion sizing for the price. Service was off the mark.

Amazing food and thank god, no dips or belly dancers.
Coskun is such a warm person and his food is made with love...so special.
The staff are lovely.

Patient waiter, love the Turkish dumpling, and the appetizer with eggplant was so good, 4.5 out of 5, highly recommend

I had the best date with the yummiest food ever had. Thank you so much Tulum team!!

Amazing. Interesting food, incredible presentation, good value, good service. This restaurant is living up to the hype in a big, big way. Thanks for having us!
N. H.
As always the food was amazing, beautifully presented . Each dish on the degustation menu was delicious and delightfully paired with a matching Turkish wine. Could not recommend this restaurant highly enough.
J. R.
A real culinary experience that opens your eyes to a cuisine so sophisticated you wonder why you have never heard of it. And the Turks have been making wine for 7000 years.
B. S.
One of the best Turkish experience in Australia. Modern dishes , reasonable prices and friendly service. Will be back very soon.
J. G.
We were personally delivered our meal by the head chef! He told us the story of how his mother made him this dish in his childhood. The award winning dish "cilbir" (organic egg, chicken skin, smoked yoghurt and brown butter) served with warm turkish bread sounds simple but was not simple at all. More importantly, it was pretty much the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. Matt Preston would weep. We will be back!!
T. W.
The food is exquisite and the service outstanding. It's not really my sort of place, though. I prefer heartier fare. It's a fixed price, set menu. Again, not my thing.
A. F.
I went to this restaurant on 06/12. The food was amazing, the service was excellent. If you want delicious Turkish dining, go to this place.
J. W.
One of the best meals I've had in Melbourne, the flavours are so big and distinct. As soon as I finished my meal I started thinking about what I'm going to get next time.

Beautifully presented food, such interesting combinations of ingredients. Timely and friendly service 😊

Great restaurant, love the flavours amazing work by the chef and team

Very nice and inviting place with exotic and DELICIOUS food .

Celebrated our marriage turning a decade in this beautiful rustic restaurant.Friendly and warm servers always taking care of you, explaining the menu and always pleasant....Food was truly an experience...Mocktails were different and spectacular...Bayleaf icecream was an amazing finish to this awesome dinner....The dishes were all quick to table and pretty on rustic plates.,...Amazing experience.....The only drawback we experienced was space especially when it is crowded and temperature rising ,dining can get a bit stuffy ....some guests actually pushed us to go through....Also not a kid friendly menu......But we still had a wonderful time...

Food delicious and service excellent. Clearly lots of thought and love put into each dish. Had a wonderful time here.

Transported to Istanbul. The wine, food and service was superb. First try of a Turkish Shiraz - didn't disappoint.

One of the most divine meals we have ever had and the service was immaculate.

Very good food and service. The interior could be more chic but the quality and experience was brilliant. The music could be softer in the background.

Definitely one of the top Melbourne restaurants. Chef is so talented, I'd recommend anyone to buy his cooking book.

Food was nicely cooked. Waiters kept mixing our table with the one next to us. Was bringing the wrong food to our table. Food was good though.

Absolutely phenomenal!! An amazing, authentic Turkish experience with a sophisticated/ modern twist. Possibly the best degustation in Australia.

Incredible food combinations and great options for vegetarian and gluten free customers. If you want a really memorable food adventure, visit Tulum.

The Aubergine , if it only it could speak. Well it might have; and the Sogan Dolma tenor'd it self through my esophagus leaving my taste buds to simper. The Loire Valley Chenin Blanc applauds ceaselessly. Mr Chef, you are a genius. A waste, in penny counting Balaclava. I pray you have tenure, as my custom will return.

Terrific and really interesting food but do not order the "feed me" as it's a complete overkill of food and extremely expensive

My favourite restaurant has sadly taken away the choice of the à la carte menu and offers only the degustation. Not happy

UPMARKET TURKISH RESTAURANT WITH EXCELLENT SERVICE
Went with friends on a Saturday night. Being a Turkish restaurant, I was expecting the nice but ubiquitous flat breads, meats and yoghurt drinks.. WOW was i in for a surprise! The restaurant has a set menu that moves through the regions of Turkey every three months. Our visit coincided with the Mediterranean region menu.
The entry to the restaurant is level so will not present issues for those with mobility issues and the whole restaurant is on one level (including the very impressive toilets).
Our waiter had us seated, plied with our first cocktail andour coats taken away to be hung in storage very promptly.
The set menu has a number of dishes that come out sequentially. See the photos below of each dish. As each item arrives, the restaurant manager magically appears to explain the dish, its origin and its cultural or geographical context.
Nothing is rushed , neither do you feel like you're waiting too long between dishes. The waiter and manager are attentive but not intrusive.
The interior is not large but there aren't too many tables and they are well spaced. There are sound baffles on the ceiling above the tables which dampen the noise level dramatically so you can have a normal volume conversation without your fellow diners drowning you out!
You have to try the Tulum Sour cocktail.. it's an amazing melange of flavour and aroma and sets the scene for a delightful dinner!
For the four of us with cocktails and wine the bill came to $500 - quite good value considering the quality and quantity of food and wine!
The restaurant is next door to the Sandringham line's Balaclava train station (platform 1 to go to the city) so we were able to train it back into the city very easily.
The restaurant has a mix of intimate (2 seat) tables and larger so it's a good place for either a romantic dinner for two or, in our case, a catch up with a group of friends.
