Environment: located in a alley, then push the wooden door and walking down to the basement. There is a mini Japanese Garden at the corner, but the pool is not running. There is a bookcase with Japanese magazines and comics. Then go into the long dining area, a waitress will come up from the back to seat you. One side is Japanese Tatami (room) area where you have to take you shoes. Another side is normal tables & chair. Very traditional Japanese style decor and old Japanese advertisement pictures on the wall. Also can sit at the Yakitari bar. Limited seats, Booking for dinner is Highly recommend 7/10
Service: fast for lunch set. Reasonable time for Yakitori (only available for dinner). 7/10
Food:
Have not come here for long time. Yakitari was very authentic. More lunch set options than before. All lunch sets include Main, rice, miso soup, salad and pickles. A cup of green tea is free. Reasonable price. Authentic Japanese setting and presentation: rice & soup are in correct positions.
Rice was cooked well, normal portion.
Miso soup was normal.
Salad with Japanese dressing was slightly watery and placed untidy in the bowl.
Pickles was the worst part here, but not very important relatively.
Kaki Fry (Deep fried Japanese oysters), $16.8: 5 oysters were cooked to perfection. 8/10
Potato Korokke (lunch special, potato croquettes), $13.8: there's potato, onion, carrot, corn and chicken: ok 7/10

Best to arrive early so you don't have to wait for a seat as it is a small location with limited seating downstairs. Tried the Kara Kara spicy chicken and it was really tasty. It wasn't over the top spicy but had good heat to it. The chicken was also moist and juicy. Unfortunately the restaurant has low air-conditioning so it was quite warm on a humid day. Worker was really friendly and apologetic but the service was great.

A delicious spot for lunch. Prices are reasonable (about $14-15) for a tasty lunch set including rice, miso soup, and a little side salad. The teriyaki salmon set looked small when it came out, but turned out to be the perfect amount of food with its 4x perfectly cooked chunky slices of salmon and delicious sticky teriyaki glaze.
Highly recommended!

Literally a hole in the wall! You would never know it's there unless you look for it. Amazing food at a reasonable price with huge portions too. The staff members are all Japanese. It can get pretty busy especially around lunch time. Highly recommend this place if you are ever around this part of town!

A secret underground Japanese restaurant that's highly recommended. Been here a few times and food is always so freaking delicious. Interior represents the Japanese architecture. There's no split billing since we came in huge groups and service was efficient. No complaints, and always a happy customer.

LUNCH SPECIALS AT JUN // Hiramasa Teriyaki: SA Yellowtail Kingfish fillet Teriyaki (aud15.80) and Chicken Kara-Age (aud13.80) from Jun restaurant, Perth CBD.
This lunch special was super delicious and satisfying - generous portion and superbly tender, melt-in-the-mouth kingfish made our day!
Chicken Kara-age (aud13.80): juicy, tender pieces of chicken very lightly coated in batter. Generous portions. Only complaint is that it’s quite oily.
Tip: Their lunch specials are value-for-money (dinner is relatively much more expensive) and highly recommended. There was also a funny smell at the entrance and dated carpets on my third visit - hopefully they’ve managed to get rid of the smell.
Tucked away in a laneway and down a flight of stairs, this hidden spot transports you to somewhere that seems to have been left forgotten: dated decor and furniture left lying haphazardly: remember - you’re not here for ambiance; you’re here for the food and friendly service.
t. c.
Pros - I think most of them are friendly. Reasonably good food. Multiple dishes without MSG. BYO restaurant situated next to the bottle shop.
Con - the shop is a bit worn out and the ambience is average.
S.
One of my all time favorites. They have amazing deals for lunch. The food is delicious. The staff are friendly and professional. The prices are a-bit on the expensive side for dinner.

Went to Restaurant Jun for a work lunch today. Have visited here a few times before. This Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem in the Perth CBD. Unless you’ve visited before it can be hard to find.
Today I ordered the chicken kaarage with extra Mayo which is my dish of choice when visiting this restaurant. When the chicken kaarage arrived, it was presented on a bento box with miso soup, salad and rice. The chicken kaarage is the best in town.
Serving sizes are large, prices reasonable and good service.
D. H.
Quite authentic. Best Karage in Perth! Love coming here for lunch when I can. Fast and great quality options with great service.
t.
Authentic, good quality Japanese food on the pricier end of the scale. Has a number of dishes difficult to find outside of Japan.
Y. U.
Dined here for the first time for lunch (or I may have visited here with my parents a long time ago when I was a child. The food and ambience made me forget that I was in Perth, and felt like I am in a Teishokuya or Izakaya in Japan. No, it isn't newly renovated and is cluttered, but that just adds the sense of being in Japan as well.
K. Y.
Charmingly authentic, generous portions and faultless service. A corner of Japan in a Perth CBD alleyway. Love.
J. T.
Very delicious food and nice staffs.
Btw, can I franchase a restaurant from your existing restaurant?
H. S. Y.
Really delicious family style Japanness restaurant, the deep fried is always the top one I and my husband would like to order again and again!
I.
There is a good variety of Japanese dishes here. It's tucked away in a well hidden location but it's worth a visit for the variety. A bit expensive compared to other Japanese offerings available in the area.
V. S.
Visited for lunch a couple of days back. Interesting place with traditional seating and regular one. A dark stairway leads to the seating area. Remarkable food, and good experience.
E. H.
Amazing Karaage chicken and friendly service. My favourite place in the CBD.
D. Y.
Jun is one of my favorite place to go, good staff and food! Best part is BYO!
D. L.
Underground Japanese restaurant. Food are fresh. Share plates are usually bite size.
A. R. M.
The entry was smelling pretty bad when we went, but once we were downstairs everything was fine. Nice setting and great service, food is also very nice.
b. c.
the food is amazing and authentic but the environment was so bad...it has a disgusting smell...maybe because it's underground...really want to go there again but need to consider because of the environment
T. T.
Food was soo yummy. Will definitely visit hear again.
E. H.
The food and service here is always really good. Abit disappointed as they no longer serve ramen as that was one of my usual go-to. But there's always other dishes to have. I love that they offer a daily special as well.
J. W.
Great lunch special deal for $13.8 in city, I felt like I’m back in Japan. Excellent service.
P. N.
This is a cosy-hidden high quality japanese restaurant.
Had my very tasty tonkotsu raman served complete with salad and pickles.
Is too salty for me thats why deduct a star.
Thanks Paulus for bringing me here and thanks for the lunch!
p. s.
Great food but a bit pricy! Friendly service !
D. H.
They were very efficient in their work and effective at what they did!
J. S.
best place to eat authentic japance food. the place is quite unique and interesting , feels like japan :)
J.
Best byo place in city! Enjoyed food and drinks. You must try buta kakuni and udon!!!
W. L.
i love this place - so homey, lots of different dishes to try, great service, it's very special to me ^_^
T. C.
The sashimi is fresh, the deep fried oyster is my fave. The food is really authentic and delicious. The staff are polite. The only thing is parking is quite expensive at Wilson (cost us $11) so just a heads up. Do try this place out! It’s a go to and local gem
P. C.
This place has always been a favorite of mine. They have daily lunch specials which I always come for and on Tuesday & Wednesday they also serve some good quality ramen. This place always gets packed from noon, so either be there on time or go at a later time.
K. W.
The environment is probably a 2 out of 5 i.e. down a flight of stairs in an alley past the stench of urine and the inside was not all that inviting. However the food was great and I tried things that I had not had before. It would have been helpful if the staff had better command of English and were able to guide the unitiated on what one should try as a first Japanese food experience.
F. A.
Among the countries like Australia, Canada, China, Japan, US that I have visited, this is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever been. Staffs are friendly. The restaurant is decorated with very Japanese style furnitures. Foods are no exception, very delicious. I would be very happy to come again if I have chance to visit Australia again!
L. T.
Friendly staffs and nice Japanese dishes
R. W.
As in japan some of the best restaurants are the little places, that are down little side alleys, and are run by a mumma-san. when you get to this one, you head through the double red doors and enjoy some great service and food. Its BYO so bring your own. You are welcomed as you come downstairs with a traditional shouted japanese welcome, the menu has plenty to choose from but i like to order off of the specials that are given to you on a seperate menu. Dont be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try things like the sea urchin sashimi, i havent had this this since I was in japan and it was as good as i remember. Wasabi infused sashimi squid is sensational. these dishes are tapas in size so you can try multiple dishes. Also don't be afraid to let the chef choose your food I've done this a couple of times and been very happy with what i've eaten and no they dont just send out the expensive ones the mix of things is great just tell them the things you don't or can't eat, sit back and enjoy the variation of things that are brought out. Great spot for couples or for a celebration with friends.
D.
I swear it’s the NO.1 authentic Japanese restaurant in Perth. They have a great variety of dishes! Food is pretty fresh and tasty, service is alway excellent! I have tried over 10 Japanese restaurants as so far, speciosity, nothing can compare with it. Although someone feels their environment is not fancy(in underground), for me, taste talks.
C. S.
Jun has been my secret spot for a very long time. I have travelled the world and here in Perth is a true gem. It is not something I can put my finger on which in my opinion makes it even better. The menu is not the easiest to navigate, the decor is not modern, the food is good not Michelin star rated, but good. And yet it never fails to amaze. Do yourself a favour and join the Japanese community that eats here.
D. W.
Came for dinner during the week after reading some of the reviews. Venue is cool but it really needs a good clean. Food was very good but regret getting the black miso cod, yes I should have said something at the time but also waitress should have asked why it was still on the plate, it didn't taste right at all. A bit disappointing but can see the potential.
E. M.
This is an amazing little restaurant hidden in Perth that I never knew about until recently, but truly feels like being in Japan with options for traditional seating, friendly and accommodating staff, and amazing food.
Great place to go with friends, and the liquor store nearby has a quality range of Sake and Soju... making this an amazing place to go out for an evening with good friends, good food, and good sake.
Being able to order a bunch of small meals to share on the long tables while enjoying BYO sake really makes this a great place to eat.
The food itself feels very authentic and is delicious.
N. S. B.
Never fails to please. Consistently awesome and authentic. Best chicken teriyaki I've had anywhere in Perth (beats Nobu in my opinion). I love this place and have been eating here for 5+ years
C. B.
Kindness and patience of saints, to serve our group of 26 people who walked in unbooked at 9pm!! And delicious food in this understated institution. Would be great to see more vegetarian options though.
T. R.
My favourite restaurant in Perth. Friendly, authentic, reasonably priced. The staff all greet and farewell every customer. Definitely book ahead if you can, but if dining alone they'll usually be able to squeeze you in at the bar. The set menu 'Jun courses' at the back of the menu are excellent. BYO only, but there's an IGA 20 metres walk away.
M. K.
We booked Jun for dinner on Tuesday evening. It's a BYO restaurant we brought our own sake. But the food that we had was amazingly good we ordered so much!
We had the squid, rice balls with salmon, chicken on skewers, pork belly, egg plant grilled, it was so much food that we ordered but it's good.
I will return to this restaurant again!
K. F.
We went here on our first date 10 years ago and both being bug fans of Japan we loved the authentic food and big range here. Also the underground vibe provides a good atmosphere
B. V.
The tastiest and most authentic Japanese food I've found in Perth. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Agedashi tofu was amazing, sashimi was fresh and delicious. Enjoyed the tako yaki very much too! We will definitely be back!
L. P.
Always top quality at an affordable price.
N. L.
Hidden gem found on a quiet night in Perth! Great food and service and reasonably priced, relaxing and unrushed... don't let first impressions turn you away... simple traditional cuisine, simply delicious!
b. b.
Very nice and cozy place. Staff were very polite and helpful with the menu.
I enjoyed the food, we only tried yakitori so I cannot speak for other menu items.
c. t.
The food is quite normal for the price. No surprise element here
D. K.
Even though we arrived at 9.30pm, the standard of the food that came out was really high. Grilled fish was good and flavorful, bento box size was big, miso soup was delicious, and chicken karage was really awesome. The best we ve tried in Perth!
G. C.
Delicious and well priced. Such an amazing experience and location.
D. M.
Absolutely amazingly Japanese restaurant in Perth with food on par with standard Japanese fare, in Tokyo. Takoyaki are as in Tokyo, not Osaka, though they are still well prepared and fantastic. The hand turned yakitori over coals, the fantastic staff and “Irasshaimase!!” As you enter make you feel as if you have entered the land of the rising sun
M.
Authentic Japanese cuisine and dining. Great food & nice staff! Will be back.
A. C.
Excellent food and service in this hidden gem. The takowasa became my favourite dish, highly recommended. The door bell seems to ring every 15 seconds and is the only negative thing i can think of.
B. A.
My favourite Japanese restaurant for authentic, tasty dishes! The menu is so much more than the teriyaki chicken most Japanese places sell. I keep coming back for the umeboshi onigiri. Yum!
m. x.
Like the environment
Like the service
In Love with the foods 😍
T. C.
It's rare to find an authentic Japanese restaraunt in the middle of the city. Wonderful service, the food is delicous and 100% Japanese. The decor is a little dated but it adds to the charm.
C. L.
Great place tucked away down an alleyway, good food, friendly staff 👌
M. F.
A side alley gem serving absolutely delicious ramen!
M. W. B.
Absolutely delicious food, very reasonable prices and friendly staff. Would highly recommend this lovely little eatery and I'll definitely be coming back soon!
K. M.
Love this place. Authentic japanese food that is something other than sishi or noodles
M. F.
i paid 14 bucks for 8 very thin slices of ham, god dayum thats alot, maybe cos im a kid, it looks like a lounge and not a restaurant, bring heaps of money if you want to leave full god damn
J.
Good food and super friendly staff!
M. C.
Super friendly staffs. We ordered a bunch of food, most of it tasted great but a couple of them not too good, especially the fried soft shell crab, tasted quite bad.
G. S.
Lovely lunch and decent prices
A. L.
Foods were okay, authentic but service was super slow, really a waste of our time
N. L.
Totally happy with the meal and the staffs are lovely
L. M.
Wonderful Japanese food ever. Price is comparatively reasonable. Worth to have a try.
M. M.
Just amazing! Stumbled on it by accident, a hole in the wall on Hay street. Staff were amazing and the food was spectacular
A. T.
Seriously the best Japanese at good prices, but don't tell anyone, because I don't want it to change. The decor and environment does need a freshen up though.
E. B.
Great underground traditional Japanese restaurant which had great prices and delicious food. It's not fancy but it's genuine is every way.
N. C.
Chicken is so tender! Great Flavour with the spicy chicken too! Great value for money. Will be back forsure!!!
h. l. C.
Excellent authentic Japanese food with great service. One of the best Japanese restaurant in Perth indeed!
J. K.
Favourite Japanese dinner experience. I horribly miss the seasonal Oden, and the Beef in stew, looking forward to Summer specialities!
J. C.
Food and service was excellent and prices are reasonable however the decor could do with a bit of sprucing up as it feels aged and detracts from the overall enjoyment of the experience.
R. Y.
The food is awesome but the place is old and looks very run down. It would have been a 5/5 otherwise.
J. U.
Good place for a Japanese authentic lunch
P. J.
I will here them again.
S. P.
This is my new favourite Japanese restaurant. Really cozy, really cute. Check it out.
W. C.
Been for a quick lunch. Food was average and not much variety. The place doesn’t feel clean. I won’t consider going back again.

Nothing fancy. But never go below (or above) your expectation. BYO but the bottle shop is just down the street.

Authentic Japanese restaurant. No forks. Really enjoyed it.

Middle of the road cluttered entrance not very Zen. Limited menu plain
