Amazing degustation set menu, mixed tapas style plates. Booked online for a 1.5 hour settings but the wait staff allowed us a leisurely 3 hour long lunch with the option of taking the cheese board course home. Everything was spot on food wise and although I didn't feel there was as strong of a wine match with each course it didn't matter as it was still delicious. They have a 90% gluten free menu by default and offer swaps as well as a vegan version of the menu. Very impressed and lovely atmosphere and setting inside and outside.

The food is decent, looks good, but some were hit and miss with the flavors and value of ingredients. Service is good but a tad slow. Ambience feels more like a casual restaurant than a fine dining one as it’s quite busy. Do come with a very empty belly, it’s a lot of food!

One of the best degustation venues I have ever been to. Catered to a party of 20+ with a wine pairing for every dish, on their day off to boot. 5 course menu pairing the best of ingredients with the best of wines. Good for couples up to medium size groups. Highly recommend!

Really loved this place. Had the lunch degustation and thoroughly enjoyed every course. Flavoursome but not trying to hard to be 'different' just lovely combinations. Also for us we had a non meat eater and the staff were very happy to oblige and one of the replacement dishes (barramundi, not on the vegan menu even) was her face of the day. Jugs of sangria ... Nice balance. Dog friendly and dog friendly staff ...the area was great and had good views and the other 80 percent of the place wasn't bothered by us....good thinking. New fave down south.

A great setting, even on a day full of rain. Glad we managed to snag a late lunch booking here the night before. We arrived early in order to do some wine tasting - as recommended by a staff member at Morries. It’s great value - costs $10 per head (as many as you care for), which is waived on any wine purchase. So, we were happy to pay $30 for a bottle of wine that we both enjoyed, and it really only cost us $10 - winning! They are only open for lunches, although they are long hours. At the moment, a degustation lunch is the only option, with 5 courses of paired tapa style dishes, which will set you back $70pp. The courses were all very tasty, beautifully presented, featuring fresh WA produce and an abundance of textures. Wine pairing is available for an additional $45pp, which we opt out of, after a full on night before. Service is very friendly, helpful and personal, and as we booked online, we mentioned that we were celebrating a wedding anniversary, and that was acknowledged on one of the plates. Too many stand out dishes to mention them all, but the cheeseboard was especially delicious and generous.

As part of a weekend away we had lunch here, what an experience, from the staff to the food everything was wonderful. We decided to try the degustation with paired premium wines and we were not let down. The dishes were paired extremely well with their amazing wines. It took you on a journey through Hay Shed Hill. The setting was serene and made the experience even more special. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was exquisite and was well presented. Came for lunch today and was pleased with the amount of food we got. However was a bit disappointed with some of the dishes, all were okay, but not quite what you expect paying $75pp. The service was also a bit of a let down, felt rushed and impersonal, understandable as they are busy but always makes an impression when waitstaff make an effort to ensure you’re having a good experience, we didn’t get that feeling here. Would like to recommend but with so many options in the region, it’s not at the top of our list.

I went to Rustico at Hay Shed Hill on the 16th of Feb 2019. We called up last minute and Chris managed to squeeze a group of 8 of us in, which we were very grateful for. We took the recommendation, by the lovely wait staff Katy and Chris, to go with the disgustation option - which looking back now was the best set menu I have ever had. I could not fault one meal it was amazing. Serving sizes were also generous. To add the gnocchi, mushrooms and the goats cheese where my aboslute favourite I will highly recommend this to all my family and friends and hopefully will be back soon. Thank you Rustico for a outstanding afternoon.

Overall a nice setting, with both inside or outside tables, for a relaxing and tasty lunch. From the moment we walked in, the service was polite and attentive. My young daughter especially appreciated the quickly delivered kids pack (containing crayons, colouring book and stickers). Even though it doesn't have a playground, between the kids pack, high chairs, grassed area and kids menu (although a bit on the expensive side), this restaurant is definitely suitable for families. Meanwhile, us adults enjoyed all the tapas plates. Probably the highlight of lunch was the vegetarian gnocchi (almost large enough to be a main meal). Although the chipotle (?) chicken looked a bit dry and unappealing, the taste didn't disappoint. If I get another chance, I'd like to go back and try the well priced degustation menu ($65 per person), which is far better value than the pizzas (almost $30 each).

Wine tasting was good. No luck with the restaurant which was allegedly fully booked and we had to wait for an hr to get a table. We were so hungry and just quickly did the wine tasting next door where we found a good Moscato.... Had a quick look at the menu though and it looked convoluted and staff didn't seem helpful.

My wife and I went to have lunch at Rustico for our Wedding Anniversary. We chose to try the Degustation 6 course meal. Course one was the scallops, they were very good with the cauliflower purée being fantastically smooth. Course two was the Fried goats cheese in orange blossom honey. My wife loves goats cheese so this dish was for her. I did enjoy the texture of the fried cheese with the sweet honey. Yum. Course three was the Beef Carpaccio, now for just two people it was a large serve of food. The big eaters will enjoy this dish, I found it delicious but lacking the flavour punch I like. Course four we swapped in the Ground Lamb from the specials list, it was wonderfully laden with Moroccan herbs like cumin and chilli. The chunks of whole chilli were great cause my wife could eat around them and I got to have them all to myself. Course five was the Pan Fried Gnocchi, I had trouble tasting the truffles but the pesto and tomatoes were delicious. Outstanding dish. Course six was the dessert tasting plate, which had 4 desserts to try. There was Salted caramel and popcorn parfait, Pistachio financier, Blueberry torte & Rosewater cheesecake. OMG I was totally done. I had the paired wines, now I’m not a big wine drinker but some of them tasted great together. Service by Hannah was excellent. She knew the dishes and wines and kept an eye on us. Her help was wonderful. We are definitely coming back!

Was recommended by a friend to dine here. Tried the degustation menu which is a 6-course meal. You get to choose between 2 different dishes for each course. The menu differs slightly from the one on its website. AUD130 for 2 pax. Make sure you have about 2 hours to spare for this meal. Kitchen closes at 5pm. Here is what I tried: 1) scallops - liked this most! 2) tempura prawns - fresh taste of succulent prawns is kinda masked by the tempura coat. Still a tasty dish 3) raw kingfish - fresh with a slight tinge of spiciness, yummy! 4) mushroom with ciabatta bread - taste flavourful initially but subsequently feels too salty 5) 57° beef - yummy! 6) dessert tasting plate - a mini coffee mouse topped with cotton candy, a mini chocolate cake, 2 mini lemon tarts & a blueberry pudding. The tiny bit of cotton candy is surprisingly nice. Chocolate cake is rich. Blueberry pudding is a refreshing close after a filling meal. Wish it was a bigger portion! Overall a great place to dine, surrounded by beautiful vineyard and friendly staff. Go pamper yourself here with a good meal if you are nearby!

My wife and I had our tenth anniversary lunch at Rustico’s with our 3yr old (restaurant trained) daughter on Sat 30th Oct 2021. We could not be happier with our choice. We asked for a nice spot but having booked a toddler we didn’t expect to get the best seat in house, but we were given the table with the best view. Staff congratulated us on arrival, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The woman (sorry for not catching your name!) who attended us throughout the day was fantastic and she went above and beyond to make our day special, from a 10yr old Riesling to ‘happy anniversary’ written in chocolate on the dessert. We really appreciated the that Rustico’s gave us a day to remember. The 5 course degustation was very good as well as the wine matches. From the wine tasting at Hayshed Hill to walk on the lawns after lunch, we could not have been happier. We will be back.

This place started out OK... progressed to "Great" then completly dropped the ball... in a word "disappointing" and yet we really enjoyed 50% of 6 course Lunch Degustation... it just failed so badly in the last few courses we either didnt finish it and/or sent it back. To further dissapoiny the staff could only muster a token coffee and little in the way of explanation or apology as "compensation". Whilst contemplating the overcooked, dry and somewhat rubbery "crackling" of the pork belly we had sent back I noticed a flyer proclaiming the resident Chef's next cooking class and one of the highlights was " how to cook really good crackling"... ironic much... or .... it was his day off and we got the sous chef that hadn't taken that class yet? On a positive note the first three dishes were spectacular, a tad slow between courses but we took up the offer to have them accelerated - still took close to 2 hours from start to finish for 6 courses. Wait staff were not able to explain or recommend the wines (from the vineyard/cellar do or they adjoined) as they "only stock them as a favour to the winery"... this added to the overall "dissapointment" at what should have been an exceptional lunch in a lovely location.

Where do i start??? The venue is gorgeous, the food is fabulous. I am gluten free and we had a mixture of the normal and vegan 5 course degustation meal. It was amazing! But add to all that the incredible staff and you have a complete experience. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left there was NOTHING that was too much trouble. We booked in at Rustico, Hay Shed Hill for our Wedding years before we were able to have the event due to having to postpone our wedding twice at very short notice due to COVID lockdowns (March 27 2020 & Feb 5 2021). After the second postponement we decided we wanted to get married ASAP but keep as much of our original plan as possible and organised our new date of Feb 20, 2021 on Feb 7 - not a lot of time! Vanessa at Rustico made both reschedules easy to navigate and without her calm, well thought out approach and support I don't quite know what we would have done! I can't thank Vanessa, Fran, John and the team at Rustico enough - everything on the wedding day and in the lead up was well managed, communication was great and we didn't have any issues on the day. I'd also like to say a special thank you to one of the waitresses, Bec. This has become a favourite for my friends and I since we found them 3 years ago on Easter Sunday. When looking for somewhere open on Easter Sunday for lunch, we stumbled on this restaurant that was absolutely packed. When informed that there were no tables, we decided to try the wines in the tasting area, and were delighted when a waitress came to find us to let us know a table had freed up. We had the 6 course degustation menu, and were delighted that, when informed that one of our party was allergic to chilli, the waitress suggested an alternative and arranged for the dishes not to be dressed with cayenne. We visited last Saturday and the restaurant was busy but not packed. We were greeted by the friendly wait staff and settled in for the 6 course degustation again (different dishes) with matched wines. Superb food and excellent wines.

Australia doesn't seem to have a real taste for pepper varieties, especially pickled so this was a great find! The black volcanic salt they use is also another tasty find - very unique. Everything we ordered was presented well and tasted even better. Our server was friendly and the wine tasting beforehand was relaxed and informative. Great place to spend an afternoon.

I have now updated this to a five star as following discussions with Management, we went to lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Once again the food could not be faulted and neither could the service and although there still could have been at least a 10 minute break between courses, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Well done Rustico for addressing our review. We are a big fan of Rustico however we tried to get in on Easter Saturday for the degustation but they were full. However they offered us a table at 4.30 and although they normally close at 5pm said they were open later. We accepted this and arrived at 4.15 and were shown to our seat. We selected the full degustation menu for 4 but at no time were we given a time limit and this turned out to be disastrous as the first course came out and we had to ask for our wine which they forgot. Then the courses came out at such a fast pace that we had hardly finished the previous course and certainly not the wine. We asked to hold back a bit on a course and were told not enough time. That is when we found out they shut at 6. What could have been a great meal was not enjoyed because we were forced to shovel everything down and had to leave our wine as we were hurried out. We had to take our dessert and cheese with us as there was no time to eat it and of course that went into the bin unedible after wallowing around in a box. Rustico take it on board, do not offer a degustation after 3pm just say you are booked out. It was awfully expensive for something we could not relax and enjoy. I have only given three stars for the food but it was really only 1 star service.

First visit to Rustico. Di and I lashed out with the 6 course degustation lunch. Di is not always a fan of these types of meal as there are invariably dishes that she doesn't like but she jumped in. The table was a bit low for the chairs making it a bit difficult to lean forward and relax your elbows on the table. Plus the table legs were rather obtrusive. Heard really good things about this place from some friends and was strongly recommended. Made a reservation over the long weekend for lunch. Despite the very busy crowd, the staffs were able to meet all needs and attended to us promptly. Really good service I would have to say. The waiters were friendly, attentive and knew what they were doing which was delightful. However food was rather disappointing. Presentation was pretty but taste didn’t meet our expectation. It was ok only. We had the lunch degustation menu for $65. Out of the 6 dishes, only 2 were actually nice (in the photo). The rest could have given it a miss as it was nothing special. The beef was over cook and had many chewy parts, the pork was cook nicely but tasted very blend. Overall, it’s a hit and miss. Decent meal but nothing special.
