Highly recommended dining experience at Club Mooney Mooney on the Hawkesbury. Possibly one of northern Sydney's best kept secrets it is less than a kilometre from the M1 motorway off ramp. Whereas the majority of traffic veers right towards Brooklyn, a left turn will get you to Mooney Mooney in under a minute. Top flight seafood menu with views of the Hawkesbury to match, a table out on the deck is the gold medal option. Bookings recommended especially in the lead up to Xmas.

The staff are friendly and very helpful but gone are the days of legendary fare from the restaurant. I have been dining here since 1977 and had many seafood platter for two. Never cheap but always good value until last I was here. The worst was the Killpatrick oysters that were completely dried out and inedible. So this time I had the steak. Cooked to perfection but disappointing small. Supposed to be a standard size but how do you check? It was quite small. The accompanying salad looked like it had been prepared days before. The greens were dessicated and limp to the point of being almost rubbery. How do you make a salad like that? I am sure that I don't know but it must be a skill in itself. Another member of our group had a Caesar salad. Way too much bacon (is that even possible?), and way too much dressing. Instead of croutons, anchovies and cubed boiled egg tossed through the salad there was just one poached egg on top with three anchovies laid over the top and six crusty bread pieces laid around the side. The steak was cooked perfectly though and that is one star. The other two stars are for the staff who were excellent.

We were extremely impressed on our first visit so we took our parents out. It was not as good. A beautifully cooked steak for instance was let down by a salad with no dressing. And gravy with a couple of peppercorns is NOT a pepper sauce. I think if you like seafood you'll love it, but some other menu items are hit and miss. Not all of them by any means but at the prices that are set you'd expect a pretty special meal. Having said all that it's a beautiful venue with attentive staff and I can still highly recommend the dip trio and the ice cream as well as most of the mains.

We came here for Australia Day as Brooklyn was packed out. Turned out to be an excellent choice. We shared a burger and chips which was bloody lovely. I'll have no problems going back here.
