Comments of Ester Restaurant

Ester is the first name that comes to mind when I'm asked to recommend a restaurant in Sydney. A good meal is always guaranteed here - their menu has a couple of staples, and the rest of it is ever-changing, but no matter what I ordered, I could almost always get dishes with interesting and perfectly balanced flavours. My personal favourite is the king prawns with fermented shrimp butter - please give it a try if it happens to be on the menu - my mouth waters just to think about it.

Incredible Vegan set menu experience!!
I absolutely had one of the best vegan culinary experience of my life! I was very nervous initially because the week before a reputable restaurant ensured me that they could accomodate Vegan when in reality they removed the meat and sauce from the dishes and was left eating bread and bland veggies, yet charged at the max price. BUT the experience at Ester was nothing comparable to the previous one. They substituted everything with additional food and dressings and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious, sophisticated and intricate! If you are vegan and want an experience similar to fine dining - go there !! Also the staff was very friendly attentive and provided overall a great customer service! A huge thank you to the team!

Went there tonight for my birthday. Food was incredible. We ordered the potato bread, blood sausage sanga, black lip abalone, king prawns, roasted hasselback potatoes, yellowfun tuna and the bread and butter ice cream. Everything was excellent except for the hasselback potatoes and the bread and butter ice cream. Potatoes were burnt and too rich for my liking and the ice cream didn’t have much flavour. Regardless I had a great night. Enjoyed the food and the service.
Highlight for me was the black lip abalone (wonderful flavours. Nothing like I’ve tasted before), blood sausage sanga (which was excellent it just melted in my mouth. So yummy!) and the tuna (wow! The texture of the bread underneath the tuna along with the anchovy was a perfect combo). Definitely recommend these three dishes!

Kickstart our Christmas break with one of the top 10 restaurant in NSW, Australia - Ester. I must say the food here tasted incredible, I might be biased because of how much I love asian-western fusion food. Surprisingly, my two favourite dishes here are both vegetarian/vegan dishes- the pickled cucumber and the Ester Salad, simply yummy! The restaurant earned my 9/10 🤤🤤

1st time visit, absolutely amazing experience, it was very busy Saturday afternoon, welcoming professional staff with good wine & food knowledge. Went extra miles as bay bug were sold out, offered us scampi which is not on the menu, and let us order the bone marrow not on the a la carte menu.
nice atmosphere, causal & comfortable, food is delicious, definitely a great lunch ! 👍🏾🧡

The potato bread🥔 was a letdown - it was hyped in reviews and even the staff recommended it. However it was very average from the bread itself to the condiments: the dashi jelly with kefir cream mixture bewildered me as it was bland and doesn't enhance the bread flavor.
- The highlight was the grilled abalone and chicken skin - one of the best I’ve ever had.
- Moreton Bay bug was tasty - not sure if it's worth the price though because its literally one bite😝
- Tuna loin and clay pot cauliflower were so-so.
A bit of hits and misses but I would go back for that abalone for sure.

Second visit here & both times it has been incredible. Atmosphere is nice (without the fluff of fine dining) with attentive waiters who aren’t overbearing.
Everything on the menu was fantastic but the highlight was probably the seafood platter. Mussels cooked in beef tallow were something special. Their potato bread is always a hit & the main (pork) was perfectly cooked & fatty. Nice to finish on some relatively light desserts that aren’t over sweet.
Easily of the best value for money restaurants going around in Sydney. 3 years between visits was too long but the meals are memorable for the right reason.

Such a fantastic dinning experience all around. Our waiter, Adrian, was knowledgeable, present and paced the food and drinks perfectly - it’s great to see such outstanding service it really made the whole lunch. The food was stunning and so delicious, and alongside some great wines. I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now and it did not disappoint. Thank you!

We were super excited to finally try Ester for a special occasion but unfortunately it didn’t meet our expectations (maybe we hyped it up too much in our heads). Most of the food was just okay, some was unpleasant - I do agree with previous reviews about some food trying to be usual just for the sake of it and forgetting flavour above everything else. The waitress was a little bit aloof too. Overall the experience was just average. For the amount we spent I was expecting something more special. Given the current COVID climate I would potentially consider visiting again without the set menu and with a seasonal change in menu to see if things improve.

Discovered this place by chance and the food was absolutely delicious, loved it. I am an oyster fan and these were some of the best I've ever had. Wine was also fabulous, we had a brilliant evening. Highly recommend.

Love visiting this small, cosy & amazing restaurant. From the moment you enter, you are made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. The space is warm, cosy but edgy and the food modern, inventive and delicious. I love the use of the woodfired oven on numerous dishes on the menu which really imparts such a distinct and special flavour and earthy. Then there are the super delicate dishes like the sweet, tender tuna loin with a slice of rich roasted bone marrow & anchovy on top or the pickled cucumber, like a beautiful pond and a dish in its own right. Speaking of vegetables being stars, the claypot roasted whole cauliflower in garlic butter with sage is comforting and rich and not a protein in sight. The Australian Bresse chicken - a breed imitation of the original Poulet de Bresse is another stunner and unusual to see on menus here. The bird bigger then usual, tastes more gamey. It was brined, juicy & flavoursome & that jus is phenomenal. Speaking of which the Buffalo Curd pie may sound simple but is anything but. Served with pickled green tomatoes & a house fermented hot sauce that should be bottled and sold! Then the desserts - the signature bread & butter ice cream is a must and the seasonal puff. On this occasion it was hazelnut which means it was like a giant nutella profiterole! So extremely luscious, naughty and indulgent. A concise but interesting wine list means a lot of things to try and experience guided by the helpful staff. An absolute must visit.

Two very disappointing mistakes- Firstly we found a cockroach under the towel when the sharing plate was served. Waiter was not very apologetic and we just let it through. Secondly the restaurant did not note down it was a birthday occasion where it was stated with the reservation. We were not offered any introduction to the menu which our neighbors did. These details could definitely be improved on.
However the food was really nice. Very descent portions and for a good price. Would probably go again but would only go for the food.

Ester is truly one of Sydney’s best dining experiences. The food is truly inspired, potato bread with kefir cream and dashi jelly is so moreish, super soft bread, warmed and charred lightly on the outside by the Woodford oven is even better than it sounds!
The blood sausage sandwich is the signature dish, one is never enough. The beef, the chicken, the bugs! All cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious.
Leftover sourdough ice cream, sounds strange, but it is a must and you can thank me later ☺️
The wine list is extraordinary and the service is exceptional. A truly brilliant combination. Highly recommend!
J. H.
Great food, great drinks and definitely a great vibe at Ester. Spent a lovely evening with some friends here and loved the food on offer. Ester has a seasonal menu therefore every visit is unique in its own way. The highlights of the night was the potato bread, scarlet prawns, grilled abalone and wagyu rump cap. All the dishes were super delicious and drinks even better. Do book in advance to avoid disappointment

Nice food but not for service.
Most of the food was really delicious especially for the blue mackerel it was fantastic. but for lamb ,dessert and cheese tart it wasn't great. We got oyster shell inside of the cheese pie. We can understand that we are in same hospitality so we could understand but they said this can't be happend and they didn't apologise properly. And they made mistakes of the voucher from the next table it made us confused but except that one. It was great.
A. W.
Great food and great atmosphere pretty says it all. The food was delicious and very fresh. The service was excellent, attentive without overstaying their welcome. The best part, it was in a casual atmosphere, where you didn't feel like you needed to wear a suit to dine at, just dress smart. We had the tasting course, added some extra oysters to the menu and it didn't disappoint. It's a small, intimate restaurant, so bookings are essential.
Prices were on the higher end (not fine dining prices) but definitely worth it, especially for a special occasion.
Overall, had a great time, was quite satsified with the portion and left very happy.
Date of visit: Sep 26, 2020. Dinner time.
E. J.
Affordable Degustation experience. Nice vibe and trendy looking restaurant. Foods served very quickly and staff were all attentive and friendly. Have a big wine list with limited selection for the glass. Good restaurant to celebrate special days with loved ones.

Absolutely loved the food and service provided at Ester! We had the set menu and every dish complimented each other. All our dietary requirements were dealt with no issue and they were very accommodating as we were running a bit late as they have 2 hour seating. Halal meat is available here at request and so is Gluten free. Enjoy!
D. Y.
Back after 4 years and loved the experience. Everything from service to atmosphere was great. We had a la carte a lovely bottle of orange wine.
The only dish that was a bit weaker was the wagyu (surprisingly), just a bit too fatty. The cucumber helped cut into it! Highlights were the octopus, Abalone and scarlet prawn 🤤🤤
N. B.
Food is quite good with the kitchens skill evident as their devotion to raw original flavours and the wood fire oven. Dishes as varied as Cold Seafood, Blood Sausage, Asian Fusion Dishes but do try the Mud Crab. Drinks are unique if nothing else with a fine tuned winelist Surrounds are concrete brutalist meets fine dinning.....
I. D.
Have heard good things about Ester and they didn’t disappoint. First of all very Covid safe and everyone was socially distanced. Loved that!
Service was great they were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine.
The food was excellent! Loved the marrow , the blood sausage were my favourites but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the others! So good can’t wait for a new menu to try.
E. T.
Finally (post Covid) Ester has introduced their A La Carte menu from Tuesday to Thursday with minimum spend of $75 per person. We managed to get a last minute booking sitting by the bar (with Rey from Koi Dessert sitting few seats down).
Hightlights were the Blood sausages and Squid. Dining experience was casual and relax. The kitchen forgot one of our order but was quickly rectified. Recommended.
A. L.
Enjoyed a fantastic dinner here, one of the best I've had in Sydney.
Every item of food was amazing - even the lettuce leaves and cucumber were out of this world. Fresh, flavoursome ingredients packed with flavour.
They are also very flexible with dietary requirements- we had a pescatarian variation, and the snapper was delightful - delicate and cooked to perfection.
When reading the dessert option I was ambivalent about the ice cream dish, but when it arrived it blew my mind.
We had the matching wine pairing at $55 - this was the one area I was less impressed with as the cider starter was very tart, and the other wines were nice and did match the food but were generally underwhelming as standalones. Next time I would just buy a bottle instead, as in hindsight would have preferred other options there.
In summary, strongly recommend a visit to Ester! Great for celebrations, date night and small group dinners.

Like many Sydney restaurants, @ester_au have responded to these trying times with a set menu ($98/head) plus a list of optional add-ons. The amount of food felt about right just sticking to the assigned menu, with must-eats—like Chef Mat Lindsay’s famous fermented potato bread—already included. Most of the “wows” are at the front end of the menu—the rock oysters popped open on the woodfire grill; scarlet prawns served both raw and crispy; and a compelling scallop tartare that you eat smeared like butter onto a disc of chickpea.
While I appreciate portion control is a restaurant’s key to profitability, the “main” being a shared stuffed chicken wing with pickles and mustard plus two differently handled brassicas gave the perception of poor value. All was forgiven when the palate-pleasing yoghurt sorbet landed with rye berry and strawberry gum, followed by a well-crafted chocolate fudge truffle dotted with candied fennel seeds.
Asking for wine and sake recommendations led to an adequate chardonnay and a lovely sake. This is one restaurant where the reduction in capacity has led to a less noisy, more spacious dining experience.
O. L.
Love the overall experience.
Food was creative and delicious.
Always love their own wine range, I had a bottle of their own orange wine, and it was fabulous!
The staff was helpful and polite. Service was on point, enough yet not overwhelming!
I will go back and try their Sunday roast for sure!
F. b.
Amazing simple and delicious food.
Yellow tuna must try!
K. Q.
Absolutely outstanding. We had the set menu with a couple of extras and everything was just amazing; fresh, skillfully crafted and a little different but not too much. I love good bread and came here because of that and they didn't disappoint. While the set menu only had the potato bread, we were offered some sourdough as well to scoop up the butter sauce from the prawns which made me happy.
S. M.
Lovely food in a small dining space. An eclectic drinks list accompanies the menu, great for those with a broad palate looking to widen their expedience.
Each dish was delicious and crafted to hold alone or as part of the wider meal. Casual dining mixed in with fine food, fair pricing.

Ester is my favorite restaurant in Sydney. The food served here is seasonal modern Australian. The savory dishes are really what shines here. This is the type of food that I like. Nothing fancy but just really delicious rustic food. The environment is really lively and generally the staff is pretty friendly. They do get really busy which led to really short food description and checking in.
Food: 5 stars
Environment/service: 4 stars
Value: 4.5 stars
Recommendations: set menu, potato bread w/ fish roe, lamb intercostal, hanger steak
I had the set menu and I highly recommend ordering it if you are hungry. The portions are roughly half sized and you get to try a good portion of the menu. Everything I had tasted good while some dishes were great. The potato bread with fish roe and dashi jelly was amazing and I really enjoyed this dish.
The desserts I had were pretty good. I liked the sourdough ice cream and I liked the creative use of the old bread crumbs to provide some texture and crunch to the ice cream.
The menu changes constantly depending on what is in season. Looking forward to coming back again to try some new dishes.

Wonderful!!
Shellfish platter was awesome
Razor fish was really good and I haven’t found a restaurant in Australia that serves it.
Wagyu beef was cooked to perfection and had so much flavour with the charring.
So happy we went here!
L.
Pleasant brunch visit. Staff were very attentive and friendly and food was amazing, especially their home made bread, unfortunately didn't try their meat dishes because we got mainly seafood but would definitely come back to try them. Highly recommend!
C. D.
The food was fabulous. I loved the potato bread and the burnt pavlova! I had their tasting menu and every item was tasty goodness. The service was fantastic. Bonus points: I was there long enough to wash the kitchen being cleaned and closed down for the night. I have never seen a kitchen cleaned as thoroughly. Watching them wash the walls down let’s me know that they care about their space as well as the quality of their food!
A. T.
This has been on the list for some time. Finally had a chance to check it out. Thankfully, it lived up to expectations. I absolutely loved the quality of the food without the pretentious atmosphere. The place was casual and the waitress we had was incredible. Overall, highly rate this place. A favourite for next time.
D. L.
It was my partner's birthday and they put a candle on his mango sorbet.
The dining experience sits somewhere between casual and fine dining.
Had a great experience with attentive staff and beautifully presented, decadent dishes.
We ordered the set menu and it filled us just right - not too full and not left too hungry.
K. W.
Potato bread, roasted Oysters and Hazelnut Crepe Cake are all must try items! Menu is great for sharing so the more people you can go with the merrier!
D. D.
Amazing restaurant. Went for their lunch special and did not disappoint. Dish after dish was incredible. The cauliflower was amazing. The two desserts were incredible. Could not recommend enough.
Definitely make reservations if you can. I got lucky and they had a spot open so took it.
Take your time and enjoy each dish. You won't be disappointed.
L. L.
Food is super good. I brought my almost 2year old daughter with me. Although there's no high chair, restaurant is very helpful to set a table with plenty room for my stroller. Also, the waiter named Mark was super considerate and supportive, he helped me for ordering with exact what I want in terms of food and portion. My daughter and I have had really great time there for the whole time. Everything dish we ordered was super delicious! I would say it's for sure more recommended than Nomad (just visited yesterday). I will definitely visit this restaurant over and over again.
A. T.
Third time coming here and it doesn't doesn't disappoint. Every single dish was well thought out, delicious and memorable. Seafood platter with the deep fried prawns heads was a stand out favourite. Would highly recommend and would come again soon!
W. L.
My new favourite restaurant in Sydney. Excellent service - warm and friendly. Good ambience. Amazing food made with quality ingredients, seasoned and cooked in their wood-fried oven to perfection. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Sydney and I can’t wait to go back already!
T. B.
Went here for a birthday lunch. Absolutely outstanding food, great wine recommendations from our server. In my opinion in the top two restaurants in Sydney. Also surprised us with some free sourdough ice cream with a candle in!
A. S.
Wow. Amazing Sunday lunch. Delicious, creative and beautiful food. Superb wine list. Amazing, friendly and unpretentious service. Cool, modern environment. Get here now!
D. M.
Whilst sitting at the bar, we had very attentive service which was nice as our glasses of wine were never empty.
We decided on ordering share plates rather than the banquet which ended up being more than enough food and about half the price of what we would have paid. Between 3 of us, we each had a larger dish, smaller dish a handful of entrees and three bottles of wine for approx $150 each - not bad! I echo some of the other sentiments about smoky - ashy - grill flavour in practically every dish apart from the raddichio salad.
G. C.
I’ve been twice now and both times blew me away. Two of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Food is amazing, service really genuine and friendly, and the price reflects amazing value for the quality and experience. Easily my go-to recommendation for any romantic / celebratory / fun dinner in Sydney. We paid just over $110 pp for a bunch of food and a lovely bottle of wine. Left well-fed and merry. I love this place.
C. D.
Ester has a very intimate dining setup with many tables suited to couples and a few designed for larger groups. We were shown to our table relatively promptly and our server was very helpful with showing us through the menu.
I was told many good things of the potato bread and can confirm it lives up to the hype - definitely order this if you end up here. We also ordered the Wood Fired Calamari, Tuna Tartare, Hangar Steak and the Beef Tartare. I'd recommend the two beef dishes if you're a red meat fan.
Dessert wise we ordered the Lord Lamington. One of the better lamingtons I've had for sure with a very rich chocolate flavour throughout
M. C.
Had a memorable meal at Ester on a flying visit to Sydney. The food was imaginative and totally delicious. We had the tasting menu which was a great selection of dishes that arrived at a nice pace and kept us anticipating the next. The waiter also recommended a great bottle of wine that paired well with the menu. A great place for a date night or just a great foodie night!
D. G.
Picked this spot for my one day in Sydney and it was great. Down to earth yet fantastic food. The Sunchokes are delicious as is the sourdough ice cream! One thing I’ll point out though is that I tried to order the Lamb Chops and my server told me that they had just run out. No problem I get it. But when he comes back from the kitchen he tells me that they can do a hanger steak instead. Not listed on the menu. I understood that they would just substitute the protein for me. I say yes. It was delicious the only thing is that is was 35% more expensive than the listed price of the lamb. You should warn a customer first.
V. S.
Great dining experience, definitely worth a visit. They serve the best duck in town. Get the beverage pairing so you don't have to worry about a thing! Just sit back and enjoy!!
V. L.
Awesome restaurant! All the dishes were amazing, done to perfection. The menu changes regularly so I don't know if I can recommend the same dishes that will still be in rotation by the time you visit but everything we had was a gastronomic success.
A. H.
My partner took me here to celebrate my new employment. Found out this was actually a 2 hatted restaurant and it truly lived up to its expectations. Food was amazing here and my partner ordered a special Scarlett king prawn pasta dish which you can only request from the staff. This dish is not on the menu anymore. It comes in 3 parts (king prawn, pasta and fried soft shell) this was really spectacular.
Also a must try is the sourdough ice cream with black sesame. I normally don’t like sesame but this one was an exception.
Will be back!
K. L.
Tried the set menu - food was wonderful and extremely well presented. The hanger steak is certainly a winner and the surprise of the day was the leftover sourdough ice cream - perfect balance of salty and sweetness with a level of crunch. Definitely leave room for this!
C. B.
Just stunning. The kind of restaurant we are lucky to have in Sydney, I couldn’t recommend Ester enough to anyone.
Service is flawless and food delicious while being really different to anywhere else I’ve been.
f. l.
Went during lunchtime booked for 12:30pm place was not too busy but got pretty fill at 1:00pm. Ordered alacarte:
Potato bread, tuna, oysters, beef tongue, king prawns and leftover sourdough ice cream.
Food came out quickly, tasted great and service from the staff was excellent.
R. D.
Marvelous flavours. Went with a group, shared a dozen dishes and every one was sensational. If smoky flavours aren't your thing this may not be the place for you. The hanger steak, cauliflower and potato bread with roe were my highlights, but I couldn't fault any of the dishes. The only letdown was that they don't do espresso and serve only filter coffee.
E. S.
I had tasting menu for lunch on 8th October , it was just amazing. If I had another chance to travel Sydney, I would definitely go to Ester again. Food, service, people everything was beautiful.
J. L.
The food was an absolute delight to feast on. Me and another 2 friends shared 2 small plates, 2 medium plates, 2 mains, a dessert & a bottle of wine which amounted to ~AUD220.
MUST HAVES
A special shoutout to the roasted rock oysters which were served warm & topped with sake - an absolute pleasant surprise. The potato bread served with roe was an interesting combination. The king prawns were super tasty & grilled to perfection - the only issue is that you pay AUD33 for 6 small prawns. I've had king prawns at least twice the size elsewhere. For dessert, we had the burnt pavlova which the lemon balanced the sweetness of it.
CAN SKIP
The squid ink noodles were okay but not mind blowing nor worth the carbs intake. Don't quite understand the AUD15 half cauliflower cause... cauliflower? AUD15?
Reservations are a must if you don't want to leave the restaurant with an empty stomach. Visited on a Thurs night & restaurant was full.
J. V.
Great tasting food with sharing at front of mind. Staff are super knowledgeable and friendly, and the interior is cosy and stylish. Best ricotta cheesecake I think I've ever had!
Y.
Wood fired oven dishes are the feature of this place - which lends itself to some superb mains. The grilled king prawns come with an incredibly moreish sauce that is best mopped up by their charcoal infused sourdough (one of the best in Sydney I might add) and their bay bugs are beautifully shelled and grilled for your ease of enjoyment. Their leftover sourdough ice cream is a stand out unqiue dessert as well so do leave some space for it.
Starters at this place were a little more disappointing though. Their famed potato bread was nothing to rave about and the blood sausage was alright. So feel free to skip the starters and jump right into their great mains!
C.
Overall pretty ok. Balmain bug fish had the best flavours. However, wouldn’t recommend the bread with roe dish tho... also feel like they should improve on customer service.
M. Y. N.
Amazingly simple yet flavorful contemporary, seasonal cuisine using local Australian produce. There's the set menu if you're not sure how to decide, but otherwise there's the ala carte menu. Roasted oysters, hanger steak was really good. Desserts weren't their strong suit though.
J. L. J.
Degustation experience was great. Nice vibe and contemporary looking restaurant. Foods served very quickly and staff were all attentive and friendly. Big wine list with limited selection for the glass.
Overall experience was great, except I would have preferred more comfortable seating not so close to our neighbors.
M. M.
By far the best food you'll get in Sydney, bar none. Down to earth, friendly and absolutely incredible food.
Z. M.
If you don't get the potato bread there's something wrong with you. Really amazing menu with a focus on great produce and interesting combinations. Friends told me that this place was previously very meat heavy but I found the opposite, highly recommend the kingfish, eggplant, squid ink noodles and anything from the wine/cocktail list! Homemade sodas also a great choice. Stand out dessert definitely the sourdough icecream.... Would walk miles for that!
L.
Here's what I thought was amazing: bread, dumplings, oysters, and shrimp. Skip the tuna tail, blood sausage, and the egg tart was one of the worst egg tarts I've ever had. Don't order the egg tart. I felt like the hot sauce on the tomato pie tasted better than the actual pie. (which is really thin btw). There's an $88 sample menu if you want to try a bunch of stuff.
Place has a casual vibe, but people come a bit dressed up. Service is quick and good.
#.
Good food but not consistent with the different dishes. We took the 88$ menu and the meat and the dessert was amazing but the sides were too salty/spicy and full of mustard.
I wouldn’t really call it fine dining but the venue is nice. I wish we could have been seated on a table rather than at the counter.
C. P.
A firm favourite of ours. The staff and food are always fantastic. Thanks for the amazing wine recommendations Adam and Mark. Great atmosphere and we always leave very satisfied.
V. L.
My favorite place in Sydney. The food is always unbelievable great, the service is good and the atmosphere is super cozy. Definitely It is worth the money🤑, the set menu cost $98,00 AUD and we weat an excellent food. The potato bread, OMG, is crazy. Very tasty. The best bread I've ever eaten in my life.
D. K.
Rustic restaurant with a wood fired oven to create interesting flavours.
Good mix of dishes served without being pretentious.
Friendly bar staff with a well selected range of beers and wines.
L. W.
Had a great night again at Ester. Desserts and the cauliflower were the highlight this time around. The coconut sorbet with nigori and the bread ice cream were surprising. Potato bread and the blood sausage are also a must.
N. H.
Rustic and modern. We were seated at the bar and received attentive service. All the dishes were simple but delicious. Had a good night here.
W. G. (.
Delicious food and good service. The oysters on the seafood platter and the vanilla ice cream were highlights.
M. K.
It was worth the visit. 88$ course menu was well balanced with full of surprises. It’s not a fine dining experience, but the food was creative enough and the staffs were super attentive and friendly, and I’d recommend it as a perfect choice for date night:)
E. S.
Modern Australian restaurant. The food here is exceptional. The menu hardly eludes to the complexity of the food but the food is not tricked up and fancy for he sake of it. In fact it is opposite. The food appears simple but is loaded with technique and flavour. And the vibe is relaxed and accessible. You can also go crazy and try incredible wines. Every one who lives in Sydney show go here and every one who visits Sydney should also dine at Ester .
E. N.
Very pricey meal in a casual setting. Don't come hungry for the set menu unless you are prepared to add on additional items and pay top dollar. Beautiful unique food and wine. Indifferent service lets the restaurant down.
A. L.
Best restaurant in Sydney! Beautiful restaurant, and fantastic food served here. Can’t go past anything that goes into their wood[fired oven, in particular their potato bread with dashi jelly and keffir lime cream.
For groups of two they have room for walk-ins at the bar (which is one of the best seats in the house anyway)! Going in groups is best, so you can try more of their menu.
K. B.
One of our favorite restaurants in Sydney when celebrating a special occasion and it never disappoints.
A. T.
Every meal here is a joy. The wood-fired oven, the big flavours in every bite, the warm welcoming space, and a wine list that any wine enthusiast would be happy to drink from. It's got everything I love about eating out. Benchmark restaurant!
S. N.
What a unique and standout restaurant! The potato bread was a winner, as well as the cauliflower and meringue dessert. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
A. S.
so I had my go on the degustation menu and my word was it great. not only would you dine satisfied but filled. service was friendly, atmosphere was vibrant yet intimate and warm and the blood sausage sangas were a true ripper
A. F.
Amazing food and the service was top notch, we did the set menu and everything was great, the blood sausage sanga and leftover sourdough icecream were my stand outs
E. H.
To say we are obsessed with this Resturant is an understatement. Sadly it has ruined us for all other restaurants. Every occasion, event, and celebration I know if I come back to Ester it’s going to be amazing.
Potato bread - in fact, all their bread - life changing.
The desserts - current sourdough ice cream sandwich - you think you don’t need a whole one .... but you do (in addition to the set desserts)
The flavours and execution of each dish - who makes peas that delicious?! Ester does.
Lovely service, very recently by the manager Adam who went above and beyond to accomodate us when I booked the wrong date!
My only request is please... please.. bring back the butter caper split prawns!
Go here for incredible food, in a relaxed but lovely environment!

A pretty disappointing dining experience, especially considering how critically acclaimed Ester is.
After weeks of looking at reviews, we booked to have Mother's Day dinner here with high expectations.
No complaints about the service, decor or vibe - the food just wasn't memorable and lacked a sense of character or unity. Great produce, but there was no harmony between it all and felt like it was just thrown together.
Best part of the meal were the desserts: wood-fired quince // bread and butter ice cream.

Excellent and innovative food. Good wines, well paired with the individual courses. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Exceptional value for money.

Absolutely great food and fantastic service. I have a huge respect for all of the people that consistently making Ester such an amazing place to visit, true professionals!

Has to be one of the best resturant expirience we had in a long while. A great resepy of new and stylish food , staff that knows the dna of the place and how to suggest it back to the costumer, great atmosphere and a very very good food. Go there.

Possibly one of the best restaurants I've ever been. Service, food, atmosphere.. all 5-star. Couldn't decide on the menu, as I wanted everything - we went with The set menu and it was a great way to explore the dishes. I'll be back!
T. P.
The first half of the course was good. However, the flavours in the second half were too heavy for my liking. Ester definitely has potential to be great but it is not there yet.
H. C.
Absolutely fantastic!!! What a fabulous restaurant. Flawless.
Food … amazing. Service excellent.
Could not fault our meal which was a 50th birthday celebration. The staff were incredibly accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was exceptional. Just a fabulous meal.
J. L.
Best steak so far in Sydney. Highly recommend to any foodie wants a surprise
C. Y.
Great food and service. Couldn't fault anything. Definitely add this to your must eat list!

Was pleasantly surprised at the quality and finesse of the dishes here. Good knowledgeable service. Pipi dish is a must order. Homemade Kombucha was delicious.

Great food. Team working hard in the kitchen. Enjoyable night.

Excellent and creative combinations of flavours! Wonderful food and experience!

Absolutely love it. I had my BD dinner with a friend there and the food was delicious and it came with a lovely smile from staff! Potato bread is my fav!
B. M.
The food is amazing! We had a fixed menu Sunday lunch and the seafood and roast lamb were great. Service is flawless. Just stay away from the wines - they pride themselves on only selling organic wines but they are terrible. We tried 5 different wines and gave up. Apart from that, great!
T. M.
Keep up the good work guys. Other than the delicious food and great service, I really enjoyed watching the guy stand up on the counter to clean the tile around the wood oven at the end of the night, and also the constant busy-work of wiping plates or using a hand squeezer for oranges (why no press?) behind the bar. Great ASMR/sensory situation.😂
M. K.
Loved every single dish, will definitely going back there again soon! :D

Best spot I have found in a long time in Sydney. I consider myself a bit of a novice foodie - flying places to try food.....and I’ve always struggled in Sydney. This is definitely a place I will revisit....and solo, if needed, as sitting at the bar works perfectly well. The place is described as Australian.....if this is Australian, I like it. My server was great and helped me decide and mix and matched even smaller plates for me to enjoy. The cocktails were deadly but delicious. This felt Michelin star worthy.

I wouldn't say that we had a bad experience at this restaurant, it just wasn't what we were expecting given many of the great reviews.
Space: A table of 4 for dinner, we were sat next to the kitchen which would ordinarily be awesome, however with the woodfire oven next to us, this meant it was quite hot. Restaurant is relatively small and concrete walls and floor make for bad acoustics overall. Seats were comfortable but had a slight incline to them which was strange.
Drinks: No sparkling water was available the night we dined as their taps were broken. They had no bottled sparkling on offer either, so we drank room temperature tap water... Wine menu is extensive which is great. We were unfortunate enough to open a bottle of red that had oxidised and was undrinkable. We were not charged for the wine and chose another bottle which was actually very nice. That said, the staff did not agree that the wine was actually bad(?) - this is concerning on two fronts; 1) they either don't know what oxidised wine tastes like or how to determine if a wine is bad, and 2) if the wine was supposed to taste like that, why is it on their wine list? It was entirely unpleasant. Staff also left the remainder of the bottle on the bench next to us which clearly did not make us feel comfortable. Cocktails post dinner were great, as was the dessert wine we chose.
Service: Took quite some time initially to actually take our drinks order, and at least 15 minutes before someone took us through the menu and how it worked. Other than that, the service was sound apart from the issue with the wine.
Menu: The menu is pretty unique and creative but heavy overall. We got the Moreton bay bug... which was undercooked and quite disappointing. Blood sausage was decent. Octopus was very nice, as was the beef tartare. There are minimal vegetables in any dish on the menu. The presentation of each dish was also remarkably unique, though honestly I can't say anything looked very appetising.
Prices: Very reasonable, we had expected to pay more.

This is probably my favourite restaurant in Sydney. I have been here a several times but the food and services have never been disappointing.
I was looking forward to come back here last week but unfortunately they are closed because of the lockdown but I will definitely come back as soon as they are open again.

Celebrated my birthday here on the weekend for lunch and was so impressed. I have wanted to dine at Ester for a long time and the expectation was highly met. The service was phenomenal (huge thanks to our staff member, an Irish [I think] motorbike riding bloke, he made the experience wonderful - we were sad he finished his shift while we were still there but his goodbye to us on the way out was really appreciated and provided friendliness and humanity that so many other places lack). The food was so fresh and plentiful, and with a totally unique take. Highly recommend, and get all the extras to go with the set menu if you are up for it - they are not to be missed.
J. S.
food was ok. service was fantastic.
a lot of dishes were just too bready.
R.
Most dishes on the menu are amazing. There was only 1 that the group didn't enjoy as much, but it was still good.
The stand outs that you need to try are the potatoe bread and the king prawns! Make sure you go as a group too so you can try a little bit of everything.
C. L.
Second meal at Ester. Very nice meal last night. Nothing memorable, but not a misstep in any dish, and that is rare. Food was rich, but not oily/fatty. Very enjoyable way to spend money.
L.
Loved it!
Great, innovative dishes - amazing mouthful with every bite.
P. D.
I'd give Ester Restaurant a 4.5 star if I could. I couldn't be more pleased with the service and the vibe. The food was exceptional and the beverage recommendations were spot on. The only minor criticisms I have is that the cutlery was cheap for a place as nice as this. But that's splitting hairs. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would definitely go here again.
G. H.
One of the best meals I've had in a while, food was great, staff were amazing.
M. D.
Wow. Amazing waiters amazing food. Will be back very soon.
T. R.
Had the tasting menu and all the food was sublime. Service was great, although we would have ordered a whole bottle of wine instead of a glass had somebody checked back with us sooner than they did. The staff were all amazingly friendly and helpful. Fave dishes were the leftover sourdough ice cream (amazing!! Thank you!!!) and the blood sanga. The menu is good value, you definitely leave feeling more than satisfied. Ester is a Sydney food scene icon, don’t pass on the opportunity to dine here!

Makes other restaurants looks so meh....first time on their banquet.... every single dish was spot on
N. A.
Did the set course. Fantastic experience of dining. Excellent food: vibrant, full of flavour that really hits the spot. And good amount too. And great cocktails, beautiful yet simple setup of the room. Mindful air conditioning, which is a game changer of the dining room experience itself, for me. Really liked a high level restaurant like this one and waiting to go back..
A. L.
Most unique dining experience I have had in a very long time. I was one of a group of five. We enjoyed a family style dinner so that we could cover a lot of their menu. Every single item was so enjoyable and unique. No two items had any semblance of the precious dish’ ingredient. If I had had more time in Sydney I would have frequented this establishment again! Ester is a hidden gem a block off the main drive. Well worth the effort to venture there.
E. B.
I’ve been wanting to come here for a while and to be honest, I was expecting more. The food was nice, but I wasn’t blown away and I wouldn’t rush back.
G.
Very reasonable pricing for the delicious food you get. Blood sausage sanga was fantastic!
M. C.
Been so many times over the years and I’ve never been disappointed. Came for lunch on Sunday - it was packed - but we got a great table and the service was the same as it’s always been: friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The people really seem to take pride in working here.
A few new dishes to try and they didn’t disappoint. Got some good - non pushy advice from the waiters which really helped navigate the menu when you want everything!
Definitely one of the most consistently great restaurants in Sydney
K. T.
It is my favourite restaurant in Sydney. I have been there multiple times and it never disappointed me!
Love the set menu as you get to try everything, very filling by the time you finished all the dishes, super yummy and very good value for its price. It is the restaurant I would take my friend to if someone visiting Sydney.
E. l.
Ester has unique and delicious flavours. Would highly recommend this dining experience. A set menu which kindly caters to allergies. A nice, cosy atmosphere - the perfect date. Just magical!

R. M.
One of the best fine dining experiences in Sydney. A cosy restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and warm, friendly staff. Very high cleaning standards, and great presentation skills with the plating.
The fermented sweet potato rolls are to die for! They certainly taste much better than they look. Although the char certainly does add an additional dimension to the flavour.
The caramel lamingtons were mindblowing, I never liked them before trying these.
The spreads that came with the bread plate weren't the best though, maybe an onion whipped butter spread or something less complex and more straightforward would've been nicer.
J. L.
Amazing!! Love the free style feel of the fine dining set menu. Generous entree platter which you can tackle any which way you like. Similarly with mains and dessert, the whole array comes at once which allows you to graze as you see fit. Plentiful portions even without add-ons, though we couldn't resist the tartare.
A. K.
Delicious Bonito head special. Fantastic service, and really yummy food. Modern design in an intimate setting. Great access for those of limited mobility, too.
A. D.
The best restaurant in Sydney by all accounts !
Intimate and cosy room.
The food is simply out of this world, no matter what we chose everything was simply succulent.
It's refined and researched, beautifully executed and the tastes are fireworks for the mouth.
The service is of a Michelin star restaurant, attentive, caring and ensuring you get the best experience possible. Outstanding !
Finally the prices are fair and the menu very varied.
You have to go !!

Good food and service.

Went here in the weekend with girlfriends and had the $98 set menu, almost every dishes are amazing! Especially, scarlet prawn/bush tomato, one bite leaves you wanting more and we did tried to order extra, but sadly the dish were all allocated for the evening. My palate is still craving for the scarlet prawn the next day.
Fermented potato bread was so soft and dipped in with calamari/witlof/roasted hazelnut soup was so flavoursome and yummy. Added on extra dish, fresh oysters with the garlic and wasabi dressing was incredible.
Citrus Tingle cocktail is refreshing, fruity and delicious.
Only bad dish was the fish for main with barely any meat and so many bones, it was difficult to eat by being cautious of not to swallow a bone.
I would had given this place 5 stars, if it wasn't for the female waitstaff. She had a very stern and sullen attitude. I completely understand we were 15 minutes over the 2-hour limit and the next group of diners were waiting outside. However, the waitress inappropriately suggested for us to finish my one Basil Fawlty cocktail at the exiled area with just rows of chairs.
She could had proposed the bar, which was more fitting or even reminded us 15-30 minutes before the end of our duration.
Nevertheless, the male waiter was so friendly, welcoming, profound knowledge of menu, observant and attentive.
I would like to return purely for the food and ambience and give the service a second chance.
E. K.
Exceptional! Love the atmosphere, the engaging service and the inspired menu. We had the Sunday roast this time and it was simply incredible. Very inventive dishes that taste exquisite.
D. D.
We were here for our Wedding Anniversary. I had reviewed this restaurant online and found it to be rated 2 hats in Sydney CBD. I would have to agree that the food was outstanding. The menu was quite obscure in listing and at first was concerned of limited choice, however once we selected and served our food there was nothing we could fault in flavour or presentation. The style of the interior wasn't exactly what I would call romantic or intimate if that is what you are looking for. The service and knowledge from the staff was impressive and we were overall happy with the dining experience. Parking was not easy - mind you it was a Saturday night
K.
Amazing service and food! Every dish was tasty and full of flavour. Portions are great for what you pay for. Very nice atmosphere too!
J. H.
We didn't know much about Ester so had very few expectations for our first visit (a few months ago now). We were absolutely blown away by the quality of food, the professional yet warm service and great atmosphere. Highly recommend sitting at the bar and letting the bar tender do their thing; we were recommended some cocktails and wines that were very outside our stock-standard and really enjoyed changing it up, beautifully paired with our meals. The food is exceptional, could not fault it. Especially the cauliflower - who knew it could ever be so loved? We're heading back next week for our anniversary, can't wait.
s. m.
I loved my belated first visit to this much talked about place. First, service is impeccable; friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and nicely avoiding that arrogance we too often see in a successful popular place.
The food was really good. Inventive and imaginative, with loads of flavour, texture and 5 star presentation. I loved the menu and have to go back to try more.
Great booze and wasn't unreasonable on the $$. Nice job
S. C.
One of few restaurants in Sydney I regurarly come back to. Such a treat.
K. S.
Such a great restaurant. Was taken here by a friend who is a regular and was not disappointed. The service was impeccable and incredibly friendly. When I ordered poorly on my wine, he immediately noticed I wasn't happy and brought me tastes of two others. The oysters, cauliflower and sour dough ice cream are not to be missed and the duck and potato bread we had were also incredible. I can't wait to come back with my husband for our upcoming anniversary!
A. W.
Beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. We had the prefix course menu and everything was delicious, especially the squid skewer. Probably the best squid I've ever had. My wife loved the pickled cucumbers. Would definitely come again.
M.
We came with no reservation and we found seats on the bar.
We tried the tasting menu and it was delicious!
Totally recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.
P. B.
We had our work Christmas dinner here last week. As a group of 14, we had the set banquet menu ($88pp) for the early setting. Service was great; our six courses & dessert were evenly spaced and the wine list, with over +160 choices was awesome. That being said, we only had three types of wine! The food quality was excellent and apart from leaving at 8:30pm, we would certainly return! Apologies for no photos.
j. d.
The food was amazing but I wasn't expecting a sorbet for the dessert course and to get charged $6 extra for an ice cream sandwich. Not in a hatted restaurant.
There are 2 menus: set menu and add on menu, the ice cream should have been on the add ons menu instead. It sort of ruins the whole experience!
K.
Hands down, one of the best restaurants in town! Everything so well cooked, so tasty, so unique.. nothing is just ordinary. Jacket potatoes were really potatoes three ways - sliced, creamy mash and encased in crispy potato skin! Yum! The shellfish platter, the potato bread with that roe.. omg! Everything was divine! Definitely coming back here...
L. C.
Amazing low key restaurant in the backstreets of Chippendale. Lunch service here is terrific, try the potato bread and the funky mineraly hanger steak
P. A. W.
Have good experience.. the food was tasty but bit pricey and you must get ready at least spend $90 each person to eat here
D. L.
My friend and I enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal here on Saturday evening. The service was also wonderful. I would highly recommend the corn starter, the kingfish and the prawns. The cauliflower is a very generous serve and was delicious as well. The raw beef with hot sauce and crisps was nice but not very hot and could have used a bit more kick. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys modern yet simple cuisine with a focus on flavour! I can't wait to go back.
n. t.
Service was amazing here! Catered for vegan in our party with no fuss and actually an excellent and off menu vegan dish created by the chef to make sure everyone left full and happy. The waiter noticing a small comment by guests about a birthday in the party then presenting a special celebration dessert on the house was really appreciated! Great value as well $50 each including bottle of wine! We will be back.
K. S.
Shared a wonderful evening with six friends, so we were able to enjoy most of the delicious dishes on the menu. Each was very well prepared and presented. Service was gracious. I would love to have some idea (if not the recipe) how the crisp corn was made. Scrumptious.
G. G.
Had an excellent meal at Ester. The food is beautifully prepared and presented. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The menu is certainly innovative and it was very helpful to have the explanations from the staff about each item. Particularly enjoyed the oyster, smoked fish and desserts. Definitely worth a visit, I'll be going back.
G. R.
Went here for an anniversary dinner and left somewhat disappointed. We had the tasting menu which was hit and miss, with some dishes having good flavours and texture, while others were very bland and lacking any wow factor.
Service was good, cocktails and wines were quite good, and ambience was average as the air con was set way too high.
A. M.
The flavours don't really make sense.
We had the set menu, the corn dish was just deep fried corn with a bit of mayonnaise - couldn't understand the flavours. The blood sausage sanga, the flavour of the bread used doesn't go well with the blood sausage flavour and the overall dish is quite dry and hard to swallow - shouldn't be the case for fine dining. To summarise, the ambience is quite nice, the service being good - although I was not a fan of the set menu courses and strugled to understand the flavours for some of the dishes, however the oysters and potato bread were fantastic. Would I come back again though, probably not.
S. L.
Very refined, everything there is good, bread, wine, mains, desserts, waiters... We had the best time! I've been to a few fine dining restaurants around Sydney and this one is now my favourite! We were really impressed
G. W.
Hello! Do whatever you can to fine here. Menu changes often. Superlatives are not enough. O U T S T A N D I N G !! 👅
D. W.
I will try to make it to Ester at least once a year. They consistently punch out deliciously tasty share plates and their signature sourdough icecream is a must- every time. Be sure to book whether aiming for lunch or dinner. Best table in the house is their round table for 6, right up against the pass.
H. Y.
Very unique and creative dishes.
However, the taste that they offer is not really to our liking.
From all of the dishes that we ordered, nothing standouts.
Quite pricey as well.
Great atmosphere and service.
A. J.
The food is very trendy, most of food use alot of Ash and smoky, first and second meal was great to feel about ash but too much to use ash and smoke into entired of menu.
N.
Food and service are great. Went there with a group of friends (4) and had the set menu. We had different dietary restrictions and it was no hassle at all for them to accommodate. The food portions were generous and the quality and taste amazing. The set menu was the perfect choice to try several of their delicious dishes. I loved the Iceberg lettuce with green goddess sauce. Only downside, it get's very loud when the restaurant is full which made it a bit difficult to have a relaxed conversation.
L. R.
Great, bold, unpretentious flavours with generous portions and friendly attentive staff. Tend to be a bit salt-heavy but I guess this depends who is working; though I feel you have to with food that had had such intense-treatment with wood-fire. I feel it is good value for what you would normally pay for.
J. W.
My favourite restaurant in Sydney for a year now! I have eaten here 4 times and me and partner are never disappointed! The food is always fresh, reasonable portions and tasty! and service is tops! Have recommend to many clients, friends and family! Thank you Ester!
R. B.
Great food with varied and interesting flavors. They deserve all the accolades they receive. My only criticism is that they serve one plate at a time. I wish we had more dishes to enjoy together. Different story if you order the fixed price or tasteing menu.
C. G.
The restaurant has a good vibe and good food. There is currently a set menu which the fish and meat eaters loved. The vego menu needs to be tested on a couple of vegos. The desserts were excellent.
C. R.
Loved it! The cheddar pie was good, but everything else was amazing. Loved the ricotta dumplings, the corn and the chocolate licorice tart. Wine was matched perfectly with duck. Service was excellent and price quite reasonable. Will definitely go back
P.
The pictures don't do this place justice. Had the tasting menu on my last day in Sydney and it was the perfect end to a holiday. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful with wine selections and the food was amazing.
A. R.
Me and my partner did the tasting menu and allowed the bar staff to choose the wine for us. They do a lot of natural wines, which pair nicely with the food. I would say the menu is modern australian, with great appreciation to seafood. It’s a great atmosphere at night.
C. A.
Phenomenal. What else to say. The steak was ridiculously good, with a pairing of the cauliflower and gem salad. Was wrapped with everything. Sat at the bar, a couple of cocktails and a few glasses of wine. Not sure I've had a better Monday night. Go, sit at the bar, enjoy the food, go home and sleep happy.
J. S.
Excellent menu that has clearly been created with a lot of care, well designed dishes and flavours. The rib-eye is amazing. Love the wine menu and service is also on point.
A. E.
What a wonderful experience! We dined here on the weekend and the food was absolutely incredible. Huge thanks to the kitchen too for being so accommodating of my saddo dietaries so that my husband and I could share the set menu, I really appreciated it! There wasn't a bite on the menu we didn't enjoy, it was all amazing. The service was impeccable too. Can't wait to come back. Thanks so much guys!

Amazing restaurant with great atmosphere, food and drinks

What a great place!
Really enjoyed the delicious, seasonal, innovative food.
We were fortunate to dine at the bar. This afforded us the opportunity to engage with the barman, have wines recommended and matched to the dishes selected, cocktails fine-tuned, all while soaking up the cool vibe of the establishment.
Make a booking and go!!
E. L.
Ate here last night, had a mix of foods, absolutely loved the buffalo curd pie, blood sausage, prawns and the cabbage dish, beautiful! We have the steak as well, boys loved that, cooked beautifully. Wines are a tad too expensive but the list is good and the wines nice.
A. A.
Really good service the waiter was really nice. Had the set menu and was super full in the end ! Yummy organic wines and the food was so different I love eating food I’ve never eaten before so the combinations were original and well thought of. Really nice interior and good atmosphere ! Perfect for a date
D. L.
Had a great birthday dinner here with my partner. Though the tables can feel a little close to one another. Food was impeccable and the cocktails really unique. Would definitely come back, but probably with a group rather than as a date spot.
S. K.
Highly highly recommended pre-booking the rib eye steak. It was cooked to perfection and literally the best steak I’ve ever had. The beef XO sauce that came with it was also a standout. The service was amazing as well. Very attentive and answered any questions we had. Our booking was at 7.30 but we wanted to go in at 7 and they were more than happy to accomodate.

Ester is a restaurant which is there for the food - not the ambience. It outfit is practical with concrete floor and walls, and tables quite close together. Therefore it is a little noisy. The food is interesting and innovative and following a present day trend it is designed to share. The menu descriptions are minimal and therefore you can be in for a surprise when the dish is served. Pricing seems variable. We had an excellent raw kingfish dish at $24 with plenty of fish served with daikon and tomato. However, a moreton bay bug at $55 had only a small amount of meat (basically one bite each!) and although tasty with shrimp butter and tamarind, it was very much overpriced. The grilled wagyu at $60 wasn't
M.
It’s Ester, what more can you say. Always appreciate chefs who love creativity and have great passion for ingredients. You can feel it each time you dine with them, they never bore you or disappoint. A must go-to place each time I have friends visiting Sydney.

Another impressive restaurant in Chippendale. Been here twice. Great synergistic flavours.. often times in creative and unexpected ways. The classics... Burnt pav, sourdough ice cream, potato bread r all must-haves. The squid ink pasta, king prawn n bug were cooked also to perfection. I did enjoy the iceberg lettuce but like eating air it did not fill the stomach at all! The decor and atmosphere was relaxed but buzzing with a cool young vibe. The service was variable... We had a very friendly server looking after us but her colleague who we also encountered was unwelcoming n a bit stuck-up. Overall a delightful experience and I would probably come back again. Hopefully we will C some improvement in the service department next time.
S. R.
With all the hype and awards, we waited 3 months to get a booking. On arriving on time, taken to seat and told to order in next 5 minutes. Waitress could not pour a drink in the glass if she tried. Half of wine was on table. Food is OK - 6 out of 10. Service 6 out of 10. Cuttlefish dumplings probably most interesting of all dishes. Ambience sort of dull - 7 out of 10. Deserts amazing - 9 out of 10. Wines list great - 8 out of 10. Would not rush back for the food. Underwhelmed.

Friendly staff and I received my dinner quickly. The fruit salad was excellent, very fresh and cool.
C. D.
Recommend this place for kind service and great food. Loved the cheddar pie, beef, dumpling, house chardonnay, Sol martini. Potato scallop did not hit the mark. Elderflower Collins was superb.
Bar seats don't feel like a compromise - neither too noisy nor overly busy.
K. G.
Fantastic meal which plays heavily to the large wood-fire oven that provides an amazing char and roasted quality to the majority of inventive dishes on the menu.
Great flavour combinations, fresh ingredients and an assortment of light-to-heavy options intended to be shared, the taste is homely, comforting but refined and beautifully presented.
Highlights of the meal were the Octopus and Cauliflower dishes, both of which exemplify the ethos, approach and taste Ester has become renowned for. The Sprouts were also fantastic.
Reasonably priced for the quality, suits both small and large groups. Complimentary chickpeas are a nice touch and the service was impeccable throughout - attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly; all lending itself well to the casual atmosphere.
A.
My husband and I went to Esther last night as it had been recommended and apparently has two chefs hats. Firstly, the atmosphere is like a cafe but in all fairness so too are the prices. It is not expensive if you do not drink. However, the food is full of burnt butter, sugar, cream and every other conceivable animal product that I felt ill after eating it. There were no vegetarian options that were not fat filled and the dishes (as they are all necessarily shared as dictated by the restauranteur) need to be shared otherwise you would be unable to eat each serve yourself. I'm sure the chef is a more than capable cook but PLEASE less fatty ingredients. The waitress, although polite, had the air of someone who had been serving the elite for too long and was short, did not listen. and carried on as if she was utterly sick of dealing with patrons. Ho hum...... I won't be back unless I hear of a changed menu with less fat and sugar.
A. M.
It's difficult to fault them. The food is superlative and the service staff support it sensationally. I enjoy dining here because the staff are invariably delightful, the food is excellent and it's a comfortable, cosy and welcoming dining setting.
Recommended for people visiting from out of town, small groups (particularly if you want somewhere nice to catch up whilst showing off Chippendale's finest) and anyone who enjoys eating food that chefs eat!

Great complimentary wine list and staff knowledge. Sit at the bar and let the bar service take your order, be it tasting portion of the menu or full treats, then recommend a suitable companion. The wine list wss clever and unique. Service was exceptional. Pretty much a winner in every respect.
J. M.
Had the prix fixe meal with my wife. Great ambience, and very popular with the local crowd. The restaurant is a bit hidden and the cab driver had trouble finding it. We both had Pinot Noir which was light and fruity but I then changed to the local Syrah for the steak portion. Overall the food was delicious, although we didn't like the cos salad since neither of us prefer horseradish. Definitely would recommend the restaurant to those who like casual gourmet with a twist.

Got to celebrate a 40th birthday and engagement with amazing service and a incredible well thought out menu. The staff were attentive, knew their wines and were accommodating to others with dietary requirements. Thank you for making the night memorable.
M. O.
Took my parents here for their birthday lunch and had the set menu. delicious food, well portioned. Higly recommend
K. W.
Great a la carte menu, the Murray cod was sweet and tender, and none of that river swamp taste you often get from store bought cods. Thoroughly enjoyed and would visit again on new menu. Oh a d the cocktails were great too!
T. N.
I've been here twice. And both times my palate was pleasantly surprised and spoilt. Nick waited on us both times and he was so relaxed, informative and professional. He made us feel like we were at home, visiting his special place. I have to say to all of the 'foodies' out there... Don't take photos of your food and please for the love of Jehova get off your phone while in such a homely rustic restaurant. You are missing out on the authentic culinary experience that is Ester.
D. C.
It lives up to the hype.
We went here for my birthday, the atmosphere was lively on a Wednesday night with not a spare seat in the house. The service was personal, attentive but not overbearing from the get-go and this continued throughout the meal. The staff were clearly knowledgable and receptive to requests but didn't feel the need to stifle us with service. Likewise, the food was just spot-on. We went with the chef's menu which included rock oysters, hanger steak, king prawns and, the highlight for me, blood sausage sanga; a fluffy, pillowy succulent take on the humble sausage sandwich. The desserts didn't quite meet the very high bar set by the preceding courses but when the atmosphere, service, food and wine are this good, that's a very small blemish on a near-perfect picture.

A casual and modest looking restaurant where the quality and flavour of the food speaks for itself. The smoky and charred flavours delivered by the wood fired oven is balanced with the brightness of fresh ingredients. Winning dishes include the unmissable cauliflower, octopus and three milks dessert. Service runs smoothly. Awarded goodfood best new restaurant 2015 for a reason.
J. C.
Loved this restaurant: food was delicious- must try the cauliflower, amazing! And wine list is pretty good. Nice atmosphere and service - were complimented à champagne glass because we had to wait for à while- nice thought! Definitely recommend to go - book at least 10 days before.
C. P.
Menu sounds very fancy, and there are some nicely executed dish on the menu, but nothing jumped out as being exceptionally good or creative. Maybe you had to go for the tasting menu to get the hype?
Only the leftover sourdough ice cream beat expectation
A. U.
Beyond expectations, every dish was an interesting and delightful experience... I normally dont like much Uni (sea urchin) but somehow I loved one of the first dishes made with it, the King Prowns was another highlight for me... just make sure to soack your spongy sourdough loaf on the yummy sauce 😋
C. S.
The rock oyster dish was the best oysters I’ve ever tasted, yum!
H. T.
Just an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Fantastic fresh food which was creatively curated, an interesting and delicious wine pairing, and top-notch service.
S. P.
Hard to find -worth the wait.Six of us had a Saturday lunch with fixed menu. The food was wonderful - a clever menu designed for sharing in considerate sized serves. Everyone at our table had their favourites- the sanga, the prawns, the Cos with horseradish, the steak, the cauliflower, the burnt pav, the bread and butter! Point is everyone enjoyed it equally but differently. No surprise it’s getting Best Restaurant / best chef awards. If you like your restaurant to have harbour views and look-at-me fit outs you may be disappointed. This is all about the food. Bonus : the Lord Gladstone pub is just up the road if you want to start or finish off with a cleansing ale that doesn’t come from a micro brewery.
C. T.
I'd heard a lot of good things from chef friends but I feel Ester is overrated. While there were some nice ideas in the dishes it seems mostly copied from Copenhagen. Food was overall too rich, no freshness, no distinct flavour of ingredients. The service was a bit slow and average - the bar staff couldn't tell me anything about the wine. Disappointed.
M. V.
Equal parts authentic and refined, ester offers exotic organic wines paired with fresh and succulent dishes. Would recommend the set menu and a lovely bottle of wine to share with a special someone.
G. F.
I always love coming back to Ester, it’s one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney. The staff are always so friendly and have great recommendations. The sourdough ice cream for dessert is a must!
M. N.
Really great restaurant. Food is quite adventurous. Fantastic service. Lovely wine list.
Recommended dishes: Cauliflower, lobster sangas, Chicken with garlic bread sauce, coffee (it's almost like tea)
Not really recommended: the pig tails (unless you are a group of 5 or something), three milk dessert
I really wasn't keen on the bread, but you need something to break up the intense flavours. The butter was ok - nothing to write home about.
Overall, a great experience.
E. B.
We loved this restaurant. The flavour combinations just worked, every time, delicious. Service was personalised and helpful. The beer list was different, and had something for everyone. The menu only lists ingredients so it is a suprise what comes to the table. Highlights for me were the Squid Dumplings and Chicken dish...save room for dessert the Three Milks combo is a MUST. Very well priced for the quality! Deserves the award for Best New Restaurant.
r. w.
Food was outstanding, portions generous and full flavoured. Our section waiter Adam, went above and beyond to make sure our experience was without fault. Can't recommend this place enough!
C.
Dined here multiple times. Never disappointed me great restaurants , excellent customer service well worth a visit yummy
Sour dough ice cream
Baked Cauliflower
Blood sausage sandwich .
Thoses baked potatoes you had a few years ago
The list goes on.10/10

We had the tasting menu for lunch at end of April 2017. We haven't had anything like this in sydney for a while. After our first bite, we knew this Chef is a genius! We could not fault any of the dishes. They were innovative, exciting and delicious! Staff were friendly and professional.
J. J.
Every single item was so enjoyable and unique. No two items had any semblance of the precious dish’ ingredient. If I had had more time in Sydney I would have frequented this establishment again!

Best food in any of the restaurant we have tried in Sydney. It is casual not formal kind of a place. Every dish we had tested amazing, and was very creative. The taste of literally all the food was great. Not too expensive either. The service was excellent also.
G. C.
Out of this world service and food. Catered for our difficult table with ease (we had the set menu) and considering we were dairy and seafood free this was quite the feat. Great vibe too. One of the best restaurants we've been to.
J. T.
I have been here several times before. The waitress was nothing remarkable. The ambiance gives off an earthy feel-good vibe. The food was all right but seriously lacked presentation. Overall, this place is just so-so. I might come back.
J. A.
Was sorely disappointed by Ester! I have been looking forward to trying this place since I've moved to Sydney and finally did so about a week ago for dinner.
We ordered the corn for entree, Miso Cod and Marron for mains. We also had the ricotta cheesecake and Pavlova for dessert.
The corn chip tasted fine - however, everything else went downhill from then on. The miso cod was drowned in soy sauce. it certainly did not taste anything like miso. The Marron was also undercooked. To top it all off...our cheesecake tasted like ham (I know it says SMOKED cheesecake...but did not expect it to have a ham-like taste!!)
the Pavlova - though it was too sweet, thankfully was good.
The service and ambience was lovely and that's the only good thing I can say about this place unfortunately.
K. M.
Our first experience at Ester and it certainly lives up to expectations! Staff make you feel comfortable and are friendly without interrupting your evening as well as extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the meal. The potato bread, burnt lemon pav, and yuzu and mandarin sorbet were standouts in a delicious meal all round with very generous portions. Celebrating my partner's birthday we were made to feel special and were well looked after throughout. A delight, we'll be back!
V. L.
Did not even know this place existed since it's hidden off the main road. Thankfully I had the pleasure of going here for a work dinner & ermagherd was it amazing!
The waiters are friendly & knowledgeable, which is always a bonus if you've never been there before. The food is not only mouthwatering but in more than generous portions. Highly recommend getting the degustation menu & if you have a large group? Swap the beef for the duck if it's on the menu, trust me on this one 😎 10/10 will dine again!
K. G.
Incredible place to eat. Initially, as a vegetarian, I was concerned there would be no vegetarian options. But there was no hesitation when I asked for the vegetarian set menu.
This place is expensive and requires a reservation. But it's so worth it. It's better to think of this as an experience as opposed to a meal. Great place for a date.
G. W.
Beyond beyond. This place was class and worth every cent. Can hardly wait to return.
B. H.
Had been meaning to go for a long time and wasn't disappointed. Treated my parter and her Mum, which wasn't cheap, but didn't expect it to be. We opted for the $100 p/p set menu which was a a real variety of flavours including some sake flavoured roasted rock oyster (amazing) smoked bonito, hanger steak, grilled lamb & hot mustard, king prawns + more - all bested by some kind of passionfruit / white chocolate / icecream mix. A couple bottles of nice Pinot Grigio and some attentive service made for a real pleasant evening. You get what you pay for.
J. K.
Best crayfish I’ve ever had. Everything was fantastic.
S. B.
The rib-eye is served in 2 classes - like a tartare and as a chargrilled tagliatelle cut feast. It taste heavenly. This dish was also accompanied by vegetables which is ideal with the wine. Be certain that you reserved your meal as the restaurant is quite common.
L. L.
Loved it... The food menu doesn't give you much, only naming the main ingredients. Whilst the drinks menu, offers a limited but unique assortment of craft beer. The staff were accommodating, swift and offered top notch service.
I'm not a normally a fan of oysters but wood firing them completely changes its taste and mouthfeel. The bonito, lettuce, veal combination sounds utterly ludacris but somehow just worked. The breadcrumb garlic chicken was probably the most conventional item on the menu but was delightful. Strongly recommend the 3 milk dessert & the salted caramel semi-freddie as well!!
J. L.
Sourdough ice cream: sounds strange but is the best ice cream you'll ever have. The oysters tasted like a concoction of booze, butter and creaminess in the best possible way. The steak was tender and the black garlic was dope. Waiter was polite and straight to the point.
i. f.
Outstanding restaurant! The noodles, cauliflower and the moreton bay bug were delicious. Can’t recommend the place enough!!
Bread and butter lovers don’t miss it here!
k. T.
Food was OK... Not particularly complex or exquisite. Was expecting a little more but for the price point I suppose it's pretty good. But I just wanted to talk about the Vanessa Megan handwash in the washroom. My hands have never felt more pampered by a completely irrelevant-to-skincare establishment and for this alone ester gets five stars.
L. W.
Great little place. Food was delicious (thoroughly recommend the Hasselback potatoes) and seasonal. Cocktails limited but delicious and the staff were very professional and friendly. Prices are actually much lower than expected!
A. M.
This restaurant is seriously ridiculous, the service on point, the wine list solid and reasonable, the food was off the charts and good servings.
Get into this place as some of the dishes would definitely rival the far more expensive CBD joints!
I mean $88 p/h for 5/6 dishes is so reasonable and did I say how good the food was!
Z. N.
One of the best meals in Sydney - modern Aussie cooking, with plenty of seafood on the menu. Pre ordering the crayfish is a must in season, but the shellfish platter is perfectly balanced and not your average plating. Potato bread is pure comfort. And the burnt lemon pavlova... un.real.
M. M.
Absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by an friendly and welcoming staff memeber to the quality of the food and service.
From a place this good you would expect the typical Sydney bullsht. But not here. This lot are friendly and actually enjoy serving the customers. Look around and all the staff are busy working away. This makes for an excellent atmosphere and an alround pleasant experience.
This place came highly recommended to me so expectation were high. Expectations were absolutely met.
Keep up the good attitude Ester as most places in Sydney just dont have it.
Juan Luv
l. s.
The round table is very small for 3 skinny ppls, plates and glass are very easily falling. Would be great to consider bigger table to get more comfort feeling while enjoy the food.
Potato bread taste good, very small, only one palm = 3 bites size
R. G.
Such a beautiful restaurant. Lovely service, very laid back with a wealth of knowledge about the food. Wait staff full of passion but very relaxed. Open kitchen for all to see, Scandic decor. Great place for all special occasions. Highly recommend!! We had the best time!
G. T.
Interesting food some dishes hit the mark (Whiting and Roasted goat shoulder) some miss. Menu selections limited for couples. Half a cauliflower as one dish? Half an eggplant as one dish? And what's with 'pour-over' coffee??? Used to be known as filter coffee and was considered passe 20 years ago. Another place that can't serve espresso.
L. H.
We had a large group and the staff were incredible catering to different dietary requirements. Every dish was amazing.
M. N.
Tried Ester for dinner last night - had the potato bread (divine), blood sausage sanga, oysters, pippis, steak tartare, prawns, cauliflower (also a standout) and the burnt pav. Found that the vegetarian dishes (potato bread, cauliflower and pav) were the hits of the night. The other dishes were ok, but wouldn't order them again. Service was a little spotty - had warm service from female waitress who seated us, however the other (slightly older?) waitress was quite brusque. As our "entree" dishes were being cleared, we were asked by this waitress to replace the empty pippi shells from our individual plates back onto the serving plate, and stood over us while we juggled these with our knives and forks. This, while we watched tables around us having their individual plates replaced between the "entrees" and "mains". I asked her to do the same for us, which was done. There was a 30-45 min wait between entrees and mains, however the young waiter who served us our first main did say it was with the chef's apologies for the delay which was appreciated. Quality of the food was superb and concepts inspired, be interested to try the other dishes on the menu.

Hands down best restaurant in Sydney.
Food, staff and setting are all on point.
I’ve started comparing all other restaurants in Sydney to this place now!
V. N.
The food was amazing! It was the simplicity of the food and the phenomenal flavours which followed that made this place a winner. The customer service was fantastic!
They were even kind enough to leave us with a lovely birthday treat!
P. W.
Excellent service and wine list and good food. Some of the starters seemed to come in the wrong order and the duck came as a course on its own at the end.
Weirdly, the music is worth noting - really good!
N. T.
Always excellent! Superb food which surprises me with its combinations, innovations and delivery. Staff are the right balance of friendly and professional - always on point. Housemade sourdough is a perfect start to things.
R. Y.
The bone marrow with sambal is mind blowing - the best dish we had there! Their signature dish roasted cauliflower is overhyped imo. You can't miss their three milks dessert - perfectly balanced sweetness with a slight acidity.
D. D.
I was at this restaurant with my old friend and we had eaten "King prawns, fermented shrimp butter", that was really gratifying and their fast service made us more satisfied. Great and friendly staff with delicious tasty food, I would like to recommend,..!!!
D. P.
This place is great. The food is amazing, really showcases the ingredients. I once went in a big group and they were so accommodating to everyone's needs. The wine was amazing as well.
i. d. w.
One of the best places we’ve been in Sydney. Great food in a lovely (not too stiff) setting. Wine was a bit disappointing for the price (20$)
C. X.
Imagine that a Brooklyn warehouse had a baby with the Sydney food scene. This place is effortlessly cool and the menu is challenging enough to keep conversation flowing.
Good place for a date, not too expensive either
T. E.
Amazing flavour experience! Always great to sit and be looked after well, great food bursting with fabulous flavours, nice wine list to compliment and professional wait staff! Atmosphere is vibing...
T. J.
If you love seafood this is the place. Nice environment, good selection of eats and drinks.
J.
Oysters with horseradish; fried squid dumpling. Absolutely delicious. Along with a very inventive Brussels sprouts surrounding a runny egg. I ate early and the staff were helpful, friendly and knew their biccies.
J. K.
8 of us went to dinner . Fantastic food. Just disappointed that they added an EXTRA 10% to our bill because we were a group. Never heard of a group surcharge before anywhere.
J. M.
Always a pleasure eating here, seasonal ingredients cooked in the wood fired over are incredible. The staff are helpful and accommodating to dietary requirements and the wine recommendations are always on point.
C. S.
Top notch! No pretense honest delicious food! The marron (not on the menu), hanger steak, chocolate pudding and mandarin sorbet with yuzu were blissful.
A. B.
The definition of hospitality and good taste (in many different ways). An absolute all-time favourite 💕
M. E.
Excellent service, food and drink was very good if not a little overpriced for what was on offer. A good portion of the gents were wearing t-shirts...seems more 1 hat than 2 hat restaurant.
A. K. (.
A hip diner with plenty of fresh dishes designed for sharing. One of Sydney's must dine experiences. Even a simple dish like whitlof and fennel has unique flavours that lift the dish to a new standard
D. K.
Absolutely great food. Reasonable price. Its The place you dont want to miss. Well hidden so keep your eyes open. Booking essential.
S. M.
Always a lovely time at Ester. The setting is relaxed and welcoming. I order the potato bread every time and whatever crustacean is currently on the menu.
P. P.
Stylish goodness.. the potato br3ad is a stunner and the shellfish platter is ultra flavourful..
S. M.
Once you have been everywhere else looks dull by comparison. Very innovative and eclectic. The half duck, and the prawns. eat. Repeat. You definitely will come back for more.
C. L.
The set menu is the way to go! It’s delicious and the wine is great. Friendly staff but could miss the restaurant as it’s hidden away in a side street
H. C.
Had such a fabulous evening here! Good food and amazing staff. Definitely I’ll be back !!
J. R.
One of the more experimental restaurants in Sydney. An amazing meal and some great wine matches. Work dinner so somewhat restrained but will be heading back!
L. S.
Phenomenal. The best tasting menu I've had and well priced. Great service, ambiance and decent wine menu. Could not recommend this more.
C. G.
What a great place to dine in. The menu is amazingly designed and reasonably priced. Great food, great staff and great decor with open kitchen overlooking the wonderful wood oven
E. T.
Hanger steak is good!!
Felt the potato bread was albeit burnt and I wouldn’t be back for the potato bread but the steak.
Cauliflower was lovely too!
C. Y.
Well worth a visit, it's not an award winning restaurant for nothing! Great creative, tasty food and good service.
L. L.
One of my fave restaurants in sydney! Appetizers need work but mains and desserts more than make up for it. Crowd pleaser, esp for overseas guests.
S. G.
Bristling Sardines with credit cards. People who like being squeezed like pimples because every dish is a home run. The place is so packed you'll easily hear how dysfunctional everyone else there is. Of course they can also hear you.The Bar Tenders were as busy as Bees on Speed.
J. L.
The food, staff and atmosphere all good! Their degustation menu is worth trying. Loved salted caramel semifrado, cabbie, dumplings (bit different), proven et. Fed Will come back again
M. G.
By far one of the best meals I've had in Sydney. Thank you to the wonderful staff for looking after us. Will be returning.
-.
There was a live, moving caterpillar on our cheddar pie (on the salad leaves)! But other than that, the food was great. The staff were very friendly.
D. J. O.
So fantastic restaurant for everyone.
M. D.
Always a wonderful dining experience. Delicious food, enjoyable atmosphere and friendly and attentive staff. Oh, and the artichoke hearts...!
J. C.
A foodie favourite and it's easy to see why as all of the food is flavoursome and looks amazing. The two chef's hats are well deserved.
M. S.
One of Sydneys best restaurants, ester is 5 stars! Christine Manfields, Paramount was my all time 10. Ester is a 9.25! I love this place.
C. P.
Amazing food, light and truly delicious. Great for couples and also groups. Sitting at the bar is always a good experience!
r. s.
Still my favourite. Delights every time.
A. E.
Amazing food and service. I like that they have different menus regularly.
The price is quite reasonable.
Would definitely come back for special occasions.
H. H.
Lovely environment with amazing staff members! They are very attentive and helpful.
Should definitely try their potato bread from the entree and bookings are highly recommended
B. B.
Incredible, creative dining experience that's not 'fancy' just an interesting approach with beautiful fresh produce. Excellent service and great styling. Loved it.
E. N.
Fancy, pricy, nice ambience, food was ok but not wow! Not even for the price.
A. A.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Food was delicious. Can't wait to return.
D. S.
5/5 all the food and the wine list. Music is a bit loud but I won’t charge extra points in this case
A.
Great restaurant, a little on the pricey side but the food is worth it. Their flavours are delicately executed and I’ve enjoyed it every time
K. B.
Amazing food, friendly staff and great atmosphere.
All the food was superb but the rump was mind blowing and the three milks dessert was perfect.
D. S.
Top notch service, wine, ambience and food.
A. C.
Second time back and always astounded at how hospitable the staff are at ester. Food is always fresh and without a doubt tantalises the tastebuds. Three milks is a dessert no one should miss out on.
R. C.
I've only been to three high-end restaurants in Sydney - Momofuku, Cafe Sydney and Ester.
Ester was the best (and most affordable) of the three.
K. W.
Amazing food and atmosphere.
The staff really know the menu and products
Very attentive bar team.
And did I mention the food is amazing...
F. R.
Fine dining at it's best
M. B.
Loved it. Great food and superb service ... Also very good social distancing. Thank you for keeping us all safe.
R. L.
Amazing food with a stunning wine list. This place would easily become my everyday canteen if I haven't got to go back to France.
K. K.
Fantastic food and great service! Sat at the bar and had the set menu, will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
M. T.
Unique food and good service!
M. C.
Still one of the best Sydney restaurant. Inventive without being pretentious or extravagant. Flavours are on point and consistent through the years.
N. M.
Don’t skip the potato bread and skirt steak
J. D.
Great spot...tasting menu for us was the way to go. Great service, great wine...add in some great friends and wonderful experience! Will be back
N. Y.
Staff were wonderful at accommodating allergies and food requests. Gorgeous food, atmosphere and music. A wonderful lunch - thank you so much!
B. O.
Beautiful over roasted veggies. The standout dish of the night was a kingfish collar served with Korean garnishes. Absolutely amazing
A. P.
Amazing food. Terrible by the glass wine list, especially the reds. Service was decent, if a bit obnoxious.
E. L.
Honest cooking with comforting dishes, taken to a whole new level. Some highlights: sashimi with nori two ways (a paste and a thick sauce); bone marrow (served still inside the bone with tomato); a semifreddo with a daring coating of salt.
A. S.
For the price, quality service one of my top restaurants. Was such a lovely evening. The bartender was my favorite !
s. s.
Esther is a great place to take out of towners , your parents or your girlfriend's parents :)... interesting take on food with a slightly mod inspired Tel- Aviv twist!
R. S.
Buzzy air, maybe somewhat too loud as a result of deficiency. Professional design, well done. Interesting, and it delivered food that is highly recommended to everyone.
R. L.
Cannot recommend more highly. Had the set menu with pescatarian amendments and everything was outstanding.
S. O.
Came by for appetizers and champagne and loved the food and service. The menu looks great, looking forward to dropping by for a full dinner sometime soon.
D. M.
Great bread! Not impressed with the food we had there which comes in shareable portions. Might have to come back to check out the rest of the menu.
F. G.
One of the best culinary experience of my life.
Food was spot on and service too.
Truly recommended

C.
Food was amazing, Reasonably priced, a little packed but good service.
B. M.
Unassuming building and location but don't be fooled, this is seriously brilliant eating. Blood sausage sanga and the Bone Marrow XO shine alongside a concise but killer wine list.
J. T.
Great dining experience. Food was exceptional. Great wine selection. Top notch service
A. G.
Very interesting mix of flavours in their dishes and all amazing. if you're umming and ahhhing about this place stop doing that and just go you will not be disappointed.

R. S.
Definitely one of the best menus in Sydney. Great veggie and vegan options with great staff and atmosphere too.
M. Y.
Had the oysters, artichoke, brussel sprouts, king prawn, potato pasta, pork chop. Everything was amazing, particularly the potato pasta and the pork chop. Fantastic.
J. S.
Never a bad meal here. On advising them we had the tasting menu with them before they served up an alternate for us!
O. B.
Interesting food (although some strange mix of meat/vegetables), ok'ish service (we were sitting at the bar), very good Barkeeper, reasonable pricing.
P. A.
Food was delicious... the restaurant itself has a very homely feel. Not somewhere to get dressed up for... at Ester it really is all about the food.
E. L.
Unique and delicious menu! Terrific service! Good value for fine dining!

L. B.
I had the set menu and every course was fantastic and it's very reasonably priced considering the quality. Worth a visit.
J. S.
Great little place, with wonderful food, though the wine pours are just on the limit, and they could be a little more generous, and please bring back the chickpeas !
S. B.
Could have had just 5 of the sausage sandwich... amazing
M. P.
Drinks, setting, food all perfect! Make sure you try the squid ink dumplings, beef tartare and roasted cauliflower.
J. K.

Absolutely fantastic. Minimalist approach to cooking. Perfect execution with simple twists. Could not recommend it more
