My friends and I came here. We ate food here. The food was very delicious. Our heart was happy. Clean environment and food touched our heart. Great taste with good service and clean environment 🙂 I like it this restaurant ☺️☺️☺️ We ate a variety of dishes here and everything tasted so good that this restaurant touched our heart.

Bring friends!
My wife and I FINALLY got to experience Firedoor after a COVID hiatus of about a year. The team are great there. They were super helpful with our booking and very friendly on the night. I went with the wine pairing option and would thoroughly recommend this. Their wine was on point! Especially liked the chilled dessert wine which was mixed with cherries.
But onto the food, the reason to bring your friends is that there is the set menu which can't be changed, but there are also tasty additions that you can opt into. We opted into the marron and 250g steak, BUT, we really wanted to try the 750g steak and the pippies. There was absolutely no way we could have gotten through all of that food. Especially when the team also throw a small starter and finisher at you too. Don't get me wrong, definitely not complaining. The food was amazing and we'll definitely be back once we can secure a booking again. Hopefully it doesn't take us soo long next time.
Thanks Firedoor for living up to the hype!

What a Fantastic experience. from the service level, to the quality of the produce.
Love every minute. Go here if you looking for a unique dinning experience. the flavors of the woodfire and charcoal cooking technics really shines. Will be back again

Been on the bucket list forever and did not disappoint
Staff - attentive, fun and professional. On the ball
Ambience - very cool, open kitchen is a hive of activity that draws the eye and smells amazing
Food - unbelievable and not just about meat. Really delicate seafood, vegetables and desserts all part of the experience
One of the best experiences I’ve had - will not forget!

Superb food and excellent service! All the dishes came out strong and, honestly, were all my favourites. We also added the 200/250g steak and it was cooked to perfection! That capsicum sauce with it was divine!
Thank you firedoor for making the night special ecpecially for my partner who celebrated his birthday.
We look forward to dining with you again, hopefully, up close to the legendary chef Lennox Hastie!

Four years I have had this restaurant in my mind, for some reason in those four years I didn’t have the chance to go. Last night my dreams finally came true.
The service was impeccable, my glass was always topped up when needed, all dishes were explained thoroughly. The produce was as fresh as it could get, living herbs picked from little eco containers and even Live crays. All the dishes were full of flavours that complimented each other.
I noticed a lot of reviews which mentioned the price of the bill. When booking this restaurant you need to keep in mind that it is owned and run by a chef who has worked in Michelin star restaurant’s across the globe. Money does not compare to the food and service that you will receive when dining at Firedoor.
Forget about the price and wait list because the experience and food is worth every penny and every minute of your time.
I thank all the chefs and staff involved who made our night simply unforgettable.

Well we finally made it to Firedoor and the wait was worth it! We were seated at the bar which gave us an awesome view of the kitchen and the team hard at work. And this team work hard! I don’t think they stopped the whole time we were there. It’s so clear that they have built a great rapport with one another - it almost looked like a dance!
The food was next level and you need to remind yourself, no ovens or stovetops here, just fire and coals. And it is unbelievably tasty!
On the menu for us tonight was Kangaroo with Jerusalem artichoke & Pumpkin with Monte Rosso and lovage & Murray Cod with tomato and lemon myrtle & Pork with turnips.
For desert we had Rhubarb with koulgn-amann and lemon ice cream.
We had skipped lunch for this event and we were still full when we left!
Lennox Hastie was off on this occasion but I have to say that he had left his restaurant in great hands! In particular Darcy and Zoe - thank you so much for an unforgettable evening, we seriously cannot give you enough stars!!!

Super fresh produce, great ambience and attentive staff. If you’re looking for a different type of culinary experience, then Firedoor is the place.

The food here is truly delicious in every way. The wine and beer selection is also exemplary. This combined with the high standard of service makes Firedoor a truly memorable occasion. We were seated opposite the kitchen which adds another layer of interest in the experience, particularly with the fires and activity around the kitchen. The only notable downside was the expensive bill at the end of the night.

We went there for a anniversary.
We waiting for 3 months for this and it was all worth it.
Service was impeccable. Great standing all the dishes were well described.
The cocktails were delicious as we waited for our meals.
Watching the kitchen orchestra is an experience in itself. A pyromaniac one 😁.
The venue is high standard without being pretentious.
Food wise, it is very refined and smokey as expected. Everything is absolutely delicious.
Worth the wait and the money. We'll be back.

Great atmosphere and customer service. All the food was good but not outstanding. Considering the prices and considering we had to book months in advance one would assume it to be flawless. I would recommend asking for a side of salt as most of the dishes were under seasoned. On a high note the kitchen staff operate super efficiently and it was an unforgettable experience seeing this. And in addition the marshmallows were the nicest I have ever eaten. Unfortunately for me, i didn't wait 5 months to go to Firedoor to be mesmerised by marshmallows. I might come back once the menu changes.

The service was outstanding ~ everything from how the serviette fell flawlessly from the waiters hand onto my lap to the scrupulous attention to ensuring my water never ran out!
Each bite awakened my senses & ignited a hunger for the next dish. The flavours were sensational & popped in my mouth!
My cocktail ~ Spiced Negroni ~ arrived in front of me with a sliced chard orange precariously balancing on the rim of the stylish glass. The rich flavours of the orange exploded in my mouth, that, paired with the actual cocktail sent my senses into overdrive.
Our group chose the option of the five course menu. Each course was beautifully delivered, with the waiters announcing where each ingredient originated from. The evening was pleasant & the atmosphere was buzzing.
On another note: I felt that each course was way too skimpy...especially the Margra lamb.
After waiting six months for this evening to come to fruition I was disappointed with the overpriced menu & the small portions of food.
When booking ~ please note ~
Service Charge:
A discretionary 10% service charge is applied to all table of 6 or more guests as a gratuity paid directly to our staff...$140.00 was added to our bill for this, not to mention the still/sparkling water ~ for the owners ~ as a disclosure I think you should include the price you charge for water!
Our meal came to $1548...

One of the best meals we have ever eaten! Staff were amazing, great ambience, delicious wine, outstanding food. On the pricier side but part of the experience.
J. C.
Sensational restaurant in Mary St, Surrey Hills. Takes a while to get into Firedoor but the experience is definitely worth it. Not a place for the budget conscious but of you're looking to spoil yourself, it would be hard to go past this place. Highly recommend.
D. S.
My wife and I ate here for my birthday last week. The food was unreal. We'd hear the steak was the signature dish, so made the investment.. It was so good! Soft like butter but delicious crust on the outside. We also bought the book, which Lennox personally signed with a lovely message! I can't recommend this place enough.
L. A.
Had the most wonderful meal at the Fire Door. The staff was attentive and the service was perfect. Each meal was beautifully described. The highlight for me was the Albacore with fresh Wasabi.
K. C.
I’m not a steak person, but the dry aged beef was out of this world. Honestly the best steak I’ve ever had and probably will ever have.
The only recommendation I’d make is to go with a group of 4 or more. You have to order the set menu which is already quite a lot of food, but if you want to order the dry aged beef you have to order it on top of your set menu. Not sure if it’s standard, but the waitress subbed out the lamb course for us.. otherwise we would have had waaaay too much food for two people.
M. H.
I’m Spanish, and I was an Aussie MasterChef Candidate who made it to the final of the selection process.
Short review: excellent.
Long review: it’s been a loong time since I’ve enjoyed such a great restaurant and well cooked fish in particular. Excellent smoky flavours infused softly in most dishes, the fire is there but it’s absolutely not overpowering, the pork was so juicy and crispy, the outer part reminded me of Spanish “torreznillos” but better, everything is just different and very well executed at a great level of detail.
Some room for improvement for the ice cream that was a little bit melted, otherwise excellence as a virtue at it’s best.
Additional comments😀
The sommelier Benoit translated everything to French so my mother who came to visit from overseas could understand everything, this took the experience to another level for us. Excellent service thanks to Benoit but also the staff at the bar. I’ve rarely experienced that in Sydney. Keep it up!
We also felt Covid safe at all times in the midst of the Omicron wave.

After seeing this restaurant on Netflix, I just had to experience it. We opted for the set menu and added extras. The food did not disappoint and the staff and atmosphere was awesome. I highly recommend the Lamb belly. Wow, never had Lamb that just melt in your mouth. Also surprisingly my other fave dish was the Hawkesbury Veggies
J. F.
It is a fun experience to be seated at the bar table to watch the chefs cooking with fire. We tried the tasting menu. It was good. The portion of the tasting menu is generous so we were pretty full after all. Especially the fish. The wagyu is nice but I do expect more surprised from this restaurant. Overall, we love the experience.
G.
Definitely will wine and dine again. Friendly, attentive and professional staff with an outstanding sommelier. Wine pairing was flawless. It's hard to come by a fine dining place that ticks most boxes. We went with additional pippis and the smaller steak option and could hardly move afterwards! Delicious and well presented all around.
T. L.
Managed to secure a seat from the waiting list. The service from the wait staff was amazing they knew the Specials without referring to notes and also our water glass was never empty. However it would have been beneficial to have written in the menu given these are dated. The food itself Nearly everything was cooked to perfection with the exception of the Marron which was slightly over cooked. The charred lettuce and Cabbage were the highlight for veggies… some dishes were slightly under seasoned to my liking but I personally have a higher tolerance to salt. Overall a great experience and hopefully have the chance to return if we can manage to secure a booking
C. L.
Excellent service and impressive food! Come with friends to try more of the add-ons! The oyster mushrooms with smoked buttermilk and charred scallions was sublime - fav dish of the meal. Lamb and steak were also cooked to perfection!
C. M.
Brilliant, almost faultless (as you should expect for the price tag). Menu was imaginative and delicious, wines were paired perfectly with the exception of one in our opinion. Service was amazing. I strongly recommend not getting any of the additional menu items. I was extremely full with just the set menu.
J.
To get a booking at Firefoor, it is best to call or email them (via Fink) directly. They can add you to a few wait lists and will be very helpful to try to get you a table. Great service at Fink.
Firedoor's concept of cooking quality ingredients over fire is simple but not easy, and also elegant. There's no other restaurant in Sydney like it. There's an open kitchen so you can see all the action unfold.
Ok, to the menu options. Each diner has to have the $140 five course set menu. The menu varies depending on availability of ingredients. On our evening our five course menu consisted of bonito, oyster mushrooms, murray cod, bundarra pork and a morello cherries and mille-feuille dessert.
Now, there's also premium optional add-ons on top of the set menu. On our evening the additional options were oysters, marron and two beef options. One option was a wagyu rump at $57. The other option was (wait for it), a 700g+ black market dry aged Rangers Valley rib-eye at... $390!
We were taken aback by the price, but at the same time we've been wanting to try the famed dry aged beef for sometime now. So we decided to go all out and opted for four oysters (total $28), 1 x 150g marron ($56), and the famed dry age beef.
So, how was the food you're now wondering? It varies:
- The bonito was nice, has a light mackeral like flavour, the blood plum and mouse melon were nice accompanying ingredients to balance the mild saltiness
- The oysters are smoked in a terrine and topped with seaweed and gooseberries. I personally loved the smokey and salty flavours. My partner wasn't a big fan, preferring them natural
- Sadly the marron was quite underwhelming. The meat was quite bland, not sweet at all
- The STIX oyster mushrooms with cabbage, leeks and grated cured egg oak was one of the standout dishes. Everything was smoked to perfection. There were these smaller saltier immensely flavoured oyster mushroom ends that were nearly crunchy that complimented the larger mushroom bodies with the natural sweet flavours that took centre stage. Mixed with lightly seared cabbage and leek, with a wiff of egg yolk, this was a beautifully prepared and a delicious treat
- The murray cod with cos lettuce comes out on a paperbark. It was smoked perfectly, with the meat still juicy, and the skin nicely crispy
- The bundarra pork was also a bit disappointing. It was tasty, but the meat was quite dense and the pork skin which is meant to be crunchy and airy, was rather tough and difficult to chew
- Now came the dry aged beef. How was it? It was beautiful. Amazingly fatty, tender with a unique sweet smokey flavour. It wasn't too 'beefy', so while we were already full, we still appreciated the juicy and decadent meat. Worth the price? Let me come back to that
- The morello cherries comes with mille-feuille and creme. It was like a light deconstructed cherry pie
They also top and tail the five course with a fun starter of a green chili pepper wrapped with an impossibly thin piece of bacon, delicious. And also the now famous smoked marshmellows with some sort of soft caramel log inside, lovely. There is also the sourdough bread that is made with a 13year starter for the dough. It had like a spongey texture, it was thick and fluffy.
Lennox Hastie was working hard in the kitchen with the rest of the crew. The wait staff were all friendly and efficient. Lennox even noticed me taking some photos in his direction, and kindly stopped to pose for me.
While I don't mind paying for in demand quality items, I personally think that if there's a substantial item on offer for two people, to allow them to either substitute or have it as a standalone offering maybe in a three course course. The beef would have been so much more enjoyable if it wasn't at the end of a five course menu where you're already full and that you also have to pay for. Also the five course option doesn't have any beef options included.
Expensive night!! Good food, a lot of food! Nice cocktails too. I hope this review helps set expectations on what could be on offer for new future diners.
M. M.
Staff were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. I will never eat cos lettuce again unless it's cooked over fire. The 218 day aged steak was an absolute experience and the cocktails were lovely. Thanks team!
M. S.
Lennox ought to be so proud! This is by far the best food experience we’ve ever had. I’m so thankful for his craft — the night was so enjoyable. Wines and cocktails and add ons made what was an incredible menu even better. The smoked vegetables with John Dory.. melting cheese on fire cooked zucchini.. the dairy cow..the cherry dessert..!!! Each dish presented so well and tasted even better. Thank you for making our work Christmas Eve dinner so memorable!
We took photos with Lennox but I thought to just put his as the first pic as this man worked so hard while we savored his results.
We’ve already booked our next session =)

Over-hyped & exaggerated in a way but good value for price only if u take a lá carte menu. The ingredients r top notch, interesting layering but dessert was underwhelming & the food, full of salt for My palette.. but that's entirely me & my opinion. I ate better food in regular restaurants & fancy ones alike.

Dined here on thursday night. We requested to sit at the kitchen bar which was so cool as we got to meet Lennox Hastie the chef. It was like watching masterchef as we got to see the kitchen team cooking and preparing all of the meals. Food was absolutely amazing! Best coral trout and pork ive ever had. Was definitely value for money. If you request kitchen seats just be prepared for the heat as its quite warm from all the coal fire. I would book the same seats again though. Taking the heat is worth it for the experience you get. Thanks Mr Hastie and team!

When we were having our last dish, we couldn't wait to go back already. The food is amazing 10/10 and the staff is fabulous 11/10. What a great experience. Except for 3 months waiting, there’s nothing stop me falling in love with Firedoor !
N. J.
We had high expectations for Firedoor after seeing the chef on Netflix and the restaurant did not disappoint. I was surprised that the food did not carry a lot of smoke in the flavour. Our favourite dish was the Murray Cod and the sirloin special. We also bought the paired wines and all the choices were sensation. We loved the stories and the commentary from the sommelier! Service was impeccable.
M. T.
My first visit. Brought by family who love this restaurant. Distinctive cooking of seasonal produce with all dishes touched by fire and smoke.
We all had the set menu. All dishes were well executed and were all happily eaten.
However, I really enjoyed the kangaroo with davidson plum, the burratina and the Murray cod dishes.
Worth a visit if you enjoy the theatre of fire, along with great seasonal dishes.
A. T.
This was a tough choice. Honestly though, for the price of the meal for two people (+$300) it was somewhat underwhelming. Out of everything we ate, the bread was the best part. Sounds stupid, but it actually was phenomenal. The entrees that we had were good, but probably not worth the price. The interesting option was the steak ($170) - Was it worth the money? Maybe. Would I get it again, probably not.
The only other slight detractor for me was the waiter. He was generally nice, however came across a little condescending. Like, we didn’t fit in. It’s not a great feeling. Sydney is upping there food game significantly. So everything counts.

We celebrated our anniversary here last July and we had a very wonderful dining experience. Food was absolutely delicious, high quality fresh ingredients, great service and loved all the wine pairings and cocktails. Located at the heart of Surry Hills, Firedoor is one of the top places in Sydney you should put on your list to visit.
N. P.
Had this booked in for months from a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed. Firedoor is a well oiled machine and is very mindful of COVID and how patrons may feel when eating amongst others. Mixed groups of 4-6 people occupied most of the restaurant and scattered in between were half a dozen couples dining.
Having a set menu made all the difference. We ate meals that we'd never order and god it made a difference. All meals complemented each other and the wine was amazing.
We paid $320 for 2 set menus ($130pp), 2 glasses of Pinot Noir and a cocktail. A little $$$ but geez it was as worth it. You can get a matching wine course for $95pp if you want. Plus they have 'bolt on' options throughout the set menu should you want a protein during the vegeterian course.
D.
Get a seat now. Dining is now about experiences, and firedoor delivers on every level. Great to see such an amazing showcase of local producers. The Passion on display here is next level.
C. M.
The minute you walk in you are greeted by lovely staff and a very warm atmosphere. We were seated by the open kitchen which was great on a winters night. The food is exceptional, the second time I have been and the second time was as fantastic as the first. The dry age steak is the best and worth the extra 40pp ($80 per couple) extra for the set menu. Absolutely perfect. The finesse of all the chefs and the way they work so well together with the beautiful produce makes Firedoor a truly amazing restaurant and dining experience. Well done!
J. C. (.
Was it Heaven or Hell ? Because only the Devil himself could take something mundane as cabbage and transform it into something decadent and desirable. I was lucky enough to attend the American Express Centurion Dinner . Most coveted ticket in town . I was not disappointed . Each dish was perfection . Lennox is not only a chef he is a artist .
K. P.
Simply AMAZING!!! Every dish was brilliantly perfected. Cannot recommend this place enough, esspecially if you appreciate cooking over fire.
O. L.
Haven’t had a great dining experience in Sydney for a while. Love the concept and the quality of Australian local food. The service was top shelf as you could expected. The only thing I was a bit bothered was the shared bathroom with the whole building, I know this should not be a major problem, but I would love to have everything perfect
R. U.
Succulent full flavors that are expertly balanced to create stand out dishes. The pork was tender and juicy with sweetness and spice. The entrees were creative but lacked in portion size meaning the value wasn't there. The staff were attentive but lacked a feeling of ingenuity.
A. M.
Food was amazing. I’ve been before and it never fails to impress. They catered to my special request. The food is delicious and made with such care. I honestly cannot stress enough how beautiful cooked each dish was. Especially the lamb! I am dreaming of the dishes I had last night.
I can’t wait to go back I recommend the restaurant often.
M. D.
Also agree with some of the reviews, food was good but was expecting a bit more.
Service was great & they were able to cater to special dietary requirements due to my friend needing the dishes cooked through so they made half of the shared dishes to their liking which was great. Standout dish for me was the marron & bomb alaska.
Place is good for both intimate & group dining.
J. H. (.
Food was great, however I was hoping for stronger charcoal tones & pacing of the meal was off (2 hours for 4 plates shared between 2).
Still very good though - steak was deliciously cooked.
D. J.
A fantastic dining experience! The food was unbelievable and the service was above and beyond.
We visited firedoor (November 2019) on a date night - the front of house and kitchen looked after us so well. My wife being pregnant obviously couldn’t eat everything on the menu but the kitchen went above and beyond to make our dining experience special. They did single plate dishes cooked in 2 different ways to ensure I could experience firedoor fully while my pregnant wife could also enjoy it while being careful of what she eats.
The steak was stunning and squid was really good!
The non-alcoholic cocktail (my ride home) was so good! And the wine also very good (pinot noir).
Highly recommend and thanks again for looking after us so well.
E. N.
A little on the pricey side but well worth it. We tried the 197 day dry aged rib ($200!), which was soft, juicy and cooked to medium rare perfection. The albacore had a slight smokey flavour to it reminiscent of aburi (phenomenal), and the duck hearts were succulent and tender. The pear and yuzu cocktail was delicious with just a hint of spice. There was a subtle smokey grilled flavour in all the dishes, which elevated the entire meal. Delicious!
D. M.
Absolutely one of the best fine dining experiences I’ve ever done. Sat at the bar while the head chef did his fish and meat preparation and butchery. 10/10 would recommend for a special occasion or just to try something new. Had the degustation with paired wines.
J. Y.
Food was good. We had the chefs menu and highlights included the fish, the moist bread and the black market chuck for that day. Cutlery and crockery were interesting and textural. Ambience is warm and private. Service was attentive and friendly from the waitresses.
Only downside was the maître d'hôtel who after seating us and asking for our drink preference, did not come back and left us with empty glasses for 15 minutes. Nor was it a particularly busy night. Until a waitress caught on and first gave us water, then the menu, and then the drinks menu in succession.
While introducing the food items, the waitresses were friendly and informative and again, the maître d'hôtel was cold and brusque.
Hopefully he has more to offer the restaurant than just his hospitality.
B. H.
Outstanding concept, delicious food, and amazing customer experience.
Angelica, who rescheduled my reservation due to a delayed flight was extremely helpful, professional and made my visit very welcoming. I’m not positive if she’s the General Manager or not, but she and her staff were amazing.
The food speaks for itself (see photos)
Next time I’m in Sydney I’ll be back
Highly recommended!
S. Y.
Delicious fire-cooked fine dining. Pork chop was heavenly, and a must have with that delicious apple vinegar and charred apple. Rump cap steak was just ok; I expected it to be better for that price. Bread and butter was yummy. Service was 5/5 (thanks Suzie!). Ambience was excellent, and great to see Lennox the chef owner doing the cooking. Definitely recommended and reservations needed.
J. L.
One of the best wood grilled restaurants. The chefs here are true masters.
Truly a delightful culinary experience. Every dish is well balanced taste of the raw ingredient and the wood used.
P. P.
These guys have it so right. At this level of dining it has to be an experience, not just the food. The food is outstanding but the entire experience is what counted the most. A great team of passionate people led by Chef/Owner Lennox Hastie who exude the same passion in serving you. Our sommelier Angelica was one of several enthusiastic and knowledgable staff who each really made the night. Our main waitress (names escape me!) was equally wonderful. There is a price tag associated with it but that’s the point. You get what you pay for. We will definitely be back to enjoy another amazing experience.
F. O.
The most delicious meal I had in Sydney in this trip. Love the atmosphere and the vibe of the restaurant. The dishes of chef’s menu are well-portioned, and really have the unique scent of wood. We will absolutely come back again next time when we’re in town.
I.
Sitting at the counter and being able to watch the team do their thing; stoking the fire, preparing each plate, even chopping up live shellfish was a real treat!
I loved how the chefs/cooks would come from behind the counter to give us some dishes and explain their ingredients - though unfortunately due to the noise it was often hard to hear them and we couldn’t quite get any questions out.
The aged beef is TO DIE FOR. Costly, but honestly so worth it and the portion isn’t modest!
I wasn’t quite taken with the wine pairings, and often the wine was coming out a lot earlier than the courses so there was a bit of an awkward beat where we wouldn’t touch the drinks until the food came out (and depending on the dish it can take a bit of time.)
One thing holding me back from giving full stars was the service that night. The guy explaining our wine pairing was brilliant and very charismatic. I loved him.
But we found ourselves having to ask twice for an extra slice of bread or glass of water and having been forgotten by the waitresses.
Also, at the end of the night I asked the maître d’ about the last wine pairing we received as id forgotten what I was told and he simply shrugged and replied with “I don’t know” and left it... after I’d paid.
Left me feeling a little undervalued and was a bit of a spoiler to an otherwise fine night.
S. C.
The premise of Firedoor is simple - fresh, locally sourced produce cooked over an array of embers to bring out their most natural flavors - I walked in with high expectations and have to say that Firedoor did not disappoint
I highly recommend the aged steak (pic #1) - if you only get one thing this would be it
Swipe through for everything we had that night (minus the wine)
S. P.
Crazy fired dishes. I haven't had experience before like this restaurant. If you would like some grilled foods, need to go there even little bit expensive. It will be good for you the Special day or anniversary day😊😊
M. D.
The best steak I have ever eaten in my life, no question, no doubt! Just amazing. No sauce needed, beautiful beef flavour with herbaceous hints of pasture grazing, melt in the mouth tender. The service here is so friendly and welcoming. Restaurant manager Raurri is the consummate host, he leads a team of professionals that completely understand hospitality. Lennox Hastie, an internationally experienced Chef and the master of the wood fired kitchen, I really believe we are lucky to have him in Australia. If you haven't tried Firedoor, please do, it must be experienced.
R. S.
It was a lovely atmosphere. Very nice a costy. It was a new experience for us. We got to sit at the bar and watch as the food was being made. It was quite a sight to see. The food was incredible. Very much worth the price.

Me and my disability carer enjoyed our 3 year anniversary here and we enjoyed what may have been a menu built for the the average foodie - aka white people. 😔
After about 15 minutes of chit chat we were interrupted by familiar sound of the adjacent unattractive, yet wealthy gay couple taking their order. We thought to ourselves, why not, when in Sydney... Act like you're gay, unattractive and wealthy and order the whole damn menu.
Let's just say this is where the fun ended because we finished our drinks, and that's not just because we are alcoholic 20 year olds' but because they were bloody amazing.
Get👏The👏Cocktails👏
...anyway it's 9:30pm right now and I've gotta get up early tomorrow and grind my arse to the pavement to make a respectable living in this God forsaken city that doesn't even want us. So to get to the point.
Drinks great, food Okay.
Ciao

Absolutely 💯 special!
So much attention to detail. Amazing food, but you'll have to sell a kidney when the bill comes.....
A. J.
We had course menu and it takes three hours. Huge open kitchen is at the restaurant, staffs are very friendly but three hours course is bit too much for me, I almost fell asleep at the end. Food is really nice!
K. o.
A great restaurant. Real mastery of the flames. Beware the delightful aged steaks were add ons only and not part of degustation menu. This can be disappointing as one is either stuffed and/or spending more than expected.
J. W.
Amazing food. The matched wines where really great. They do a excellent cocktail too.
Q. N.
Best restaurants I've been to in Australia. Personally love open kitchens and wood grills are made for pure carnal culinary delight. Loved the 241 day dry aged ribeye on the bone. Undesirable mouthwatering. But I'll try.. Flamed carmalized, bodied with aged cultured mold and incredible sweet marbling. Nicely paired. Did the chef menu with pairing. Absolutely complementary and we'll worth it.
M.
Delicious food and a great environment. Did à la carte versus the set menu. The Tuna and the Dry Aged Rib were the highlights. The Cod was also tasty and a very large portion. In terms of drinks, they had a great spin on a Manhattan.
J. Y.
Ordered the chefs menu for 2. What a experience - presentation was spot on but the flavours was a hit and miss at times. I would suggest to stay to the la carte menu when dining here.
N. B.
If you like your flavours with a side of BBQ smoke in a classy environment with fine wine and crafted cocktail and slick service this is your place. Earth to see why this is one of Sydney's best....
R. L.
Excellent food with a great concept - the fire permeates every dish. Service is also terrific, though prices are very high. Great for a special occasion though!
K. A.
Sensational. Best fish I've ever had, and the dessert.
Been there 3 times now for just cocktail & dessert.
Impossible to get a table, thanks to their Netflix special.
But it's a game changer!

It was great, very attentive syaff and the wine pairings although young were great, once you ate with the food it was paired with. Great experience.

My partner and I are getting married in June, so wanted to book a dinner for her and I at Firedoor, before we had to return to work from our honeymoon. Logged in at 12pm and had the reservation and then midway page stating 'Time had run out' AND i lost the booking. Terrible that this happened and I can't get into any other booking time.
K. F.
Wow, the Firedoor experience was awesome! No electric or gas cooking, open kitchen where you can see all the charcoal ovens and bbqs. We had the degustation with matched wines. A fantastic experience, good value for fine dining.
P. N.
Firedoor is an experience for a number of reasons, foremost among them the insane furnace in the kitchen where they cook food by log fire. It was almost as distracting as the attractive and friendly staff. But then by the end of our chefs menu (which I highly recommend) and matched wines (which I triple highly recommend...everywhere you can get them), the food and delicious wine was the greatest distraction. You'll have to excuse the poor quality of my photos taken on my old, pre-iPhone X life (was I even alive?), but these things were my favourite meal.
T. M.
Firedoor was great. I didn't have a booking but was dining alone and they sat me at the bar straight away. I was originally worried the whole open flame thing was more a gimmick, that was quickly put to rest when I received my first cocktail with smoked ice. The smoke was used to enhanced the flavor of everything else. The char on things gave depth, rather than being burnt. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful with drink and food selections. I don't think I'm adding much to the abundance of glowing reviews for this place, but if you read this and are on the fence, give it a try.
I. F.
Loved it. Really loved it. Steak and lamb were great but the really startling dish was the aubergine. Astonishing, smokey, unique. What a concept. Highly recommended.
N. B.
The food here is insane. We did the 5 course set menu with the wine pairing, and from start to finish the food and the service was the best. I would definitely come back here.
J. W.
Had the cos with guanciale, duck hearts, marron with caviar lime and trevally with cabbage slaw. Food was 2 out of 4, though it's fair to mention the duck hearts were super. Couldn't fault the service at all, which is what pushed me to give it a 4 star instead of 3.
J. A.
If I was in Sydney for one night only, this is the restaurant I would go to... this is my favourite! The food unique. The service amazing. The people - including Lenox the chef and Miki the som - want to make every moment special... and they succeed! I love this place and have been there at least a dozen times. Be it a romantic dinner or s celebration with friends, you cannot go past Firedoor!
S. H. L.
Great food, service & ambiance. If you are having the Chef's menu don't finish the bread. You'll be too full to have your mains of fish and wagyu beef
R. C.
Great food, experienced and interior!
J. C.
Steak here is one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted! Done to absolute perfection, a little crisp on the outside and soft in the inside. We had the $90 chefs menu and were blown away by the amount of food we had. Great vibe and the wait staff are fantastic too. A must try
P. K.
An amazing experience. We had the 200 day aged steak and some sides. All top notch. I don't give 5 stars too lightly.. Firedoor deserves it. Sit at the bench next to the kitchen.
M. J.
There is a reason firedoor has such amazing reviews and 2 hats. The service is beyond anything I have had recently, the chef's are friendly and informative and the food is incredible. Don't get me started on the cocktail selection!
10/10 evening

Amazing service and food. A really stellar experience.
Since the original review I've been back more than once and they have never let me down. Food has always been exquisite and the service phenomenal. Making me feel welcomed and at home. Cannot gush enough about this place and the experience it gives. 11/10
M. R.
Amazing food and cocktails, didn’t get any pictures of the food because I was too busy enjoying it! Just go, you won’t be disappointed.
A. W.
Lovely dinner. Portions were great, food was delicious and the service was also friendly. Definitely recommend!
C. G.
This place is special! The food is truly something unique, the produce is super high quality and that wood smoked flavour delicious! Whilst i would have been totally happy just with the set menu (OMG the Cod is something else) We also treated ourselves to the 183 dry aged rib and it was a flavour that is worth every cent! This is not your normal steak, it's its own beast - It is incomparable to anything else i've tasted and i think every bad review on here for it is because people are trying to compare it to other steaks -which its not supposed to be like any other steak. It's a rich flavour party that hangs around in your mouth well after you have finished eating.

Some of the best food in Sydney
P. G.
Yes the food was lovely but for what we spent and in comparison to other venues It was overpriced. We ordered set menu 5 courses, matching wines a cocktail each and the small steak. Total of $600 for 2 people. Ideally the steak should be included in the menu as this is the item on the menu the venue is known for and matching wines priced at 75pp instead of 99. All the items on the menu were equally memorable, no 'super star' dish. Service was great.
L. W.
Took us months to get in to Firedoor but the wait was worth it.
Food, wine and service was better than any fine dining experience of mine lately.
S. K.
The food was insanely good. Had an amazing experience Dining here.
E. O.
It was amazing. Sensational flavours of Australian native plants in 10 course chef's menu.
B. M. 馬.
Delicious, tasty and yummy food; excellent restrurant; friendly/helpful wait staff.

My real rating is not quite 5 but decided not to be pedantic with my review based on first visit on a busy Friday night. Everything is very well organised here from booking all the way through to service. Staff are quite professional and welcoming. The food is overall very nice but I think there were meals that missed the high mark (in our case the lamb which did not have enough fire grilling effect on and was slightly under-seasoned). I also think the drinks are over-priced compared to the offerings.
행.
Very nice service, very nice atmosphere, underpriced for what it’s worth, passionate chefs, the steak beats my Uncle’s. BEST steak ever.
C. P.
Worth the hype. Would definitely come back if they change their menu. We didn't love every dish on the menu but they were all beautifully cooked, and you can tell how much care was put in them.
The 140 day dry aged wagyu was perfectly cooked as well, but it was way too rich on top of the lamb to be shared between 2 people. It was a bit more than what I would pay for it, but I suppose it's more justifiable if split between 4 people.
S. B.
I went with so much expectation, but it just fell short. The food was great, and the cooking technique really makes a difference to the flavour, particularly the fish. On food alone, yes it is 5 stars. Wine pairings and elements of the service weren’t to the standard to match the food.
A. C.
Great food and equally great service! The staff were attentive and the chef menu was delicious.
N. L.
Been here several times and the food has always been delicious and full of flavour. Highly recommend the dry aged steak. Pricey but worth every mouthful!
R. N.
Wonderful after work hang out with nice cocktails and quality food. Ambiance and staff were lovely also.
R. E.
Bit overpriced (true of basicly all high end steak houses). But their aged beef option is to die for (exactly what this option is changes daily, but there always is one). The shrimp was nice, didnt get much of the chili it was described as having. But that was about my only complaint. Soooo good!
n. r.
Creativity, balanced, details, best ingredients, passion, fun... heaven and hell together!!! If you can afford it...give it a go!!! Undeniably awesomeness happening in that kitchen
N. G.
Good experience, went last night had the set menu added the oysters and steak. Food tasted great (I’ve had better steak, but the cod was unreal), but I didn’t feel like it wasn’t enough food for the money paid, I left hungry and the table spent $1200. Cocktails and wine were awesome, and the service was 10/10!
N. R.
After a 4 month wait slightly disappointed. I have been here many years ago when Firedoor first opened and had a different menu and much less hype (we were able to get in day of booking).
After watching Chefs table I decided to come back to try the new menu and bring my partner here.
For the price I expected more, and although i love the fire concept and the wine list, some of the dishes were lack lustre.
Having to use your hands for the first few dishes which are super messy (without any plates) in a fine dining restaurant was unexpected and a bit gross.
Lows - the bonito we couldn't taste the wasabi at all, felt a bit meh after the cos lettuce and premium bread supplement we opted for.
Highs - the Lamb (perfect), smoked old fashioned (great spin on a classic).
I also found it odd that every course had an optional upsell. I understand on 1 main dish, but every course felt like a McDonald's supersize menu like there wasn't enough confidence and conviction in the normal dishes. Made you feel like the standard menu just wasn't the best version it could have been that you only get the best if you are willing to pay a lot more when its already fine dining.
Having ticked it off I wouldn't go back, it was just good but not wow.

We booked in December to get a reservation in June at 9pm. This place is extremely busy so be warned (October is the next available time to book a reservation and it will be for bookings in January). The set menu was wonderful but there was a lack of clarity for the portion sizes: we were upsold the $250 steak and Pipi's which I couldn't even enjoy because we ate so much food. My partner and our guests had the wine pairing, which was brilliant, and I ordered a bottle of wine from Coonawarra, also brilliant. The Som was the highlight of the experience and she treated us wonderfully. The wine selection is interesting and diverse but I did not appreciate having to order off my phone on their website: it seems a bit odd to be scrolling the website at a fine dining restaurant. They should have a wine list available or allow you to go up and pick a bottle.
The service was EXTREMELY RUSHED. So much so we had to ask them to slow down so we could enjoy our company and food. I hadn't even ordered my drink yet or looked at the menu and somehow the server had placed an order for me which included the wine pairing. After she spoke with me and took my order (changing the previous one I did not make) everything began to fall into place. The building has a great atmosphere and the staff are wonderful. The ambiance reminds me of being in a ski lodge next to a crackling fireplace. However, it felt like the service was an assembly line with scripted service presentations of food. Again, this changed completely and they developed personality once we talked to them and told them to slow down.
There were several food runners who dropped off items at our table and it they were so fast it took 3 times to get their attention so I could order a bottle of wine.
The food was fantastic and even though I went there for the steak I ended up enjoying the cabbage and cauliflower the most. I did not even take a bite of the dessert because the portioning sizes was disorganised and became an issue towards the end of the meal. I would recommend that they consider swapping the lamb for the steak rather than creating an extra course because it lost all of its luster when none of my guests had any room left to enjoy it. Again, the food was amazing but it was annoying sending food back without touching it.
Overall, some of the best food I have had to date but the restaurant needs to improve on some of the interactions with their guests, make the portions and upsells make sense, get a wine list, and showcase the cooking over fire more.
Our total bill for four people was $1350 which was very reasonable given that we over dined until midnight and had beautiful wine selections in such a warm atmosphere. The Som was very enjoyable and stopped by our table several times. We would consider going back and will plan to book again when something is available.
5 star + food quality, taste, presentation
3.5 star rushed service
4.5 star no physical wine list
5 star atmosphere
3.5 star over portioning and poor course organisation
5 star + Sommelier
4 star no engagement from kitchen or showcasing cooking style over 🔥
4 star reservation booking experience
5 star staff
Overall ~4.5 🌟 experience.

Firedoor is a restaurant worth visiting if you are a foodie.
It is very unique - the technique, ambience etc.
We ordered a 5 course meal with a couple of additional dishes (the steak is a must!)
The extra dry-aged steak was quite unique, but it was what you can expect - a lot of grease, a bit of smokiness and bacony notes and that tender juciness... While its good, it would be a bit too much to take more than 2-3 peices.
Would I revisit? No - while was a unique experience, it was too expensive and very difficult to get a table - highly recommend visiting nonetheless

A unique experiance and good vibe. Food is decent however does not live up to the hype and is far from value for money. Food was well cooked but mostly lacking in flavour. Cocktail's were also quite average however unlike the food were reasonably priced.

Firedoor was a truly unique and enjoyable dining experience. From the wonderful restaurant set up, dominated by the view of the wood-fire cooking set up in the kitchen, to the friendly and informative staff, the whole experience was well worth the price of entry. The food and the chef's philosophy of using fire to cook our prepare everything speaks for itself and provided some truly unique dishes that we have not experienced anywhere else.
As we were a late sitting we got to meet the chef after our meal and he is very down to earth and easy going, and was very accommodating for us despite clearly still being busy.
Overall, this rates as one of the best dining experiences we have had anywhere.
W.
Enjoyed the food and service. Menu had a good variety, nice atmosphere too. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was paying an extra service charge for 6 people? Really?

What a experience took my boyfriend here over the weekend for his 30th. Staff and food was outstanding!

Been waiting to go here for a while. Set menu is varied and delightful. Beautiful textures and flavours. The steak add on is the best I have ever had. The wine pairing was well worth it. Very hopeful and efficient staff. Highly recommended.

There's not enough stars to give this place. Incredible. Very fine dining but also incredibly relaxed. It's how food should be done. Lots of places in Sydney have plenty of hype attached to them but very few live up to it in the way Firedoor does. Course after course of incredible food. And the incredible service complimented the food perfectly. If top restaurants are run like clockwork then place is a fine Swiss watch. I have eaten in most of the top restaurants in Sydney and there's only two I would happily go back and this is definitely one. I look forward to next time I get come back. Thank you Firedoor for upping the standard in Sydney.

Open kitchen plan.
exciting menu, great tasting food and friendly accommodating service.

Food was nice enough, staff were lovely. But when asked if we had any dietary requirements, and we told them, we were told they couldn’t adapt their set menu.
All we said is that we don’t eat bread or sweets. The 5 course set menu included bread and a dessert. It’s not like we were asking for gluten free bread, or sugar free dessert. They could have given us an extra piece of asparagus. Instead we were told we would be charged the same and no alternative would be brought out.
Then we waited 2 hours and 20 mins for our main dish! We had a few cocktails on arrival and polished off a bottle of wine and an extra 2 glasses, so was totally drunk by the time we got any real food. For $700 for 2 people, pretty unimpressed to be honest. I wouldn’t go back.

Brilliant experience. From the pre-starters to the gorgeous marshmallows at the end, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. For me, the chefs played it safe on a few dishes, would loved to have encountered the fire more. Booking direct was easy - it was 2.5 months in advance but absolutely worth the wait! Thank you Firedoor!

So I watched the netflix special but it was my friend that convinced me to try this place out. I booked a table that was available after five months and was called beforehand and asked if I had any 'dietary requirements' to which I requested 'no pork, bacon, or ham please'. With collected anticipation I didn't want to have high expectations. I approached this thing with an open mind and the intention of paying for an 'experience' as they call it.
We waited at the bar for 15 minutes until our table was available to which we had to remind the waiters about the ordered drinks. When the first entree came out, it was bacon wrapped around charred green peppers. It was delicious after I reminded them that I didn't want the bacon as asked beforehand. A quick and pleasant fix.
Second entree was of the most delicious bread I ever had. The 'aged bread' they said was a from a local bakery that had been keeping thing for 13 years! Wow. Don't ask, just butter the thing and you're in heaven.
In-between all this, they asked if we would like another drink which they soon forgot about it until we reminded them again. Waiters are working hard though, so I appreciate the effort.
Third meal was cooked oysters beside some greens. This was my partner's favorite meal and it truly was a great dish.
Fourth meal was Codfish with greens and a gelatin sauce. This was a bad one. The texture felt more raw than raw salmon. The gelatin was totally unnecessary and stole the flavor from that unsalted fish. Neither my partner and I liked this dish and we simply described it as a 'gooey one'.
Fifth meal lamb cutlet with greens. This is the one will put a smile back on your face. Perhaps the best lamb I ever had. Glad it was one small piece of lamb because I had forgotten something that had laid before me.
The 214 day aged meat. When that came down, it was beautifully presented and was absolutely delicious. What they have done to keep it aged so well, is they have covered the entire meat in fat and stored it in a cool environment. So you are going to be tasting just as much fat as you will be eating meat. My girlfriend does't like fat, so I was left with the entire thing. Now BEWARE! This is a large piece of meat that is going to set you back $390. Your friends or family may not like it, so just keep this in mind when ordering. You can also take it home to have for later as well.
Finally the desert dish. The worst dish out of the experience. It was a slice of what appeared to be a croissant like bread next to some cream. The bread tastes like burnt toast and the cream just masks over it to give you something with basically no flavor. I was baffled that the chef wanted to end dining experience on this note which is, truthfully speaking, a no effort dish. I think he knows this which is why he leaves the most delicious tasting marshmallow for you to have before you leave. Because no one wants to walk out of a restaurant with the taste of burnt toast in the mouths right? Good call.
Everything costed $800 but the overall experience is worth trying once in your life. It's a priceless memory. Thanks for reading.

What an unbelievable experience. My wife and I were lucky enough to be sitting up overlooking the kitchen. We got to see the entire process and the Firedoor team running like the well oiled machine that it is. Besides the food being like nothing I’ve ever eaten, so good that I find myself daydreaming about it regularly, I was particularly impressed by the way Lennox engages with guests, the way he treats his staff, and the passion that the entire team seem to have for what they do. We’ll be back again soon without a doubt, provided we can get a booking!
n. m.
Amazing!!! We were lucky enough to get in after someone has cancel their booking. I can’t remember last time we had such a great service and amazing food. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Food was beyond the imagination. Highlight of the night was a fish. Highly recommended xx
M. F.
Where else can you find a place that serves dry aged beef that is almost 6 months old? It was sublime!
R. H.
I was disappointed. Four of us attended and had the set menu (at $140 per head), but there was no meat offering. This was sad for a restaurant that has built its reputation, I believe, on sizzling meat. The anticipation was immediately burst. There was an aged beef upgrade at an extra $97, but was like adding fuel on the fire. The service was outstanding, the set menu was for the most part, very good, yet I still left disappointed at what should have been the best, but was not. The night was capped when I ordered a bloody mary, only to be told, sorry cant do....no tomato juice. But your supposed to be five star?
J. B.
I wish I had been sooner. An amazing experience, super friendly staff. Lennox Hastie brought one of the dishes to our table and told us about how it was prepared and even had time for a book signing! A genuinely great soul. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out on one of Sydney's most unique culinary experiences.
S. B.
Excellent service. Food was very good. It is very nice for a special occasion.
P. K.
I feel like I have to post an update.
I visited the restaurant for the second time and unfortunately this time around the food was not as good. It was not bad, just nothing to write home about. Almost every meal came with cabbage. It felt like they ordered too much of it and tried to get rid of it. Surely there are other veggies in season. Most of the dishes could use some salt and the cool effect of eating a fish from a smoking bark was suppressed by the fact that the bark, when cut into, gave the fish an off putting taste.
I'm also baffled by the steak situation. I was keen to give the aged steak a go, but unless you are someone with limitless appetite there is no way you can eat over half a kg of meat on top of the degustation menu, and at $260 a piece you don't want to have a few bites and leave the rest on a plate. There's no option to just get the steak, you have to order the degustation menu as well. To get through so much food you would need to bring at least 4-5 people to share the steak with. Not sure why, given this steak is one of the main selling points of the place, you can't just go there to enjoy it by itself or alternatively, opt in for a taster size added to your regular menu for an additional cost.
I'm not riding the place off just yet but I think I'm going to wait for quite some time before giving it another go.

My friend and I keep exploring Sydney's high end restaurants and more often than not we end up being disappointed. From Aria to Momofuku I could not recall one dish I ate and never even though to go back to any of those places. Not the case with Firedoor. As we were still chewing our mains we were already making plans to come back. Every single dish was perfectly balanced and full of flavour and I literally can't stop thinking about those mushrooms.

Once in a lifetime.
Unforgettable experience.

Great experience. We got a 8.30pm booking however didn't get seated till 9 and first dish came out at 9.30pm so I recommend anyone going for a late booking to have a little nibble beforehand (my friend got very hangry at one point lol). The food was amazing. The wine was amazing. The service was amazing. Met Lennox also and a great guy with a great team behind him!
Funnily the veg nearly impressed me more than the meat! Overall I would go again.
P. W.
Very nice place where is cooked in front of the guests. Very friendly service. The steak was excellent. The prices are a bit high.

Service was amazing and the food is absolutely incredible. Definitely recommend Firedoor.

My partner and I dined there last night, after booking 3 months in advance. We were SO excited, but for a $620 dinner, it was unremarkable. The wine was exceptional and the som was excellent! Apart from that, it lacked a few key and simple signs of courtesy and finesse you'd expect at a place of this calibre. I didn't feel valued by the chef, and here's why:
1. We had the worst seat in the house - at the cleaning station, looking at the bathroom door. This should not be a seat, or at a minimum, decorate with a couple of flowers to make your guests feel welcome and part of the experience and the shared space - we felt like outsiders looking in - like the guests you don't want to invite to your wedding, but have to because of your parents. The waiter and som were super lovely to make up for this - and we do appreciate that.
2. No one offered to cloak our jackets, bags and umbrella, even after suggesting it to the waiter.
3. The kangaroo is a 'must have' (and so we heard from our friends and the waiter). They only had 1 left (instead of 2), and the waiter suggested something else as a substitute that he didn't mention when listing out the menu initially. Not a big deal, but I can't help to think about the guests who missed out and might have waited 6 months and paid $600 for their dinner, only to be offered something that wasn't even worth mentioning at the beginning. I'd expect better inventory management and experience design - especially with COVID where numbers are regimented and you CAN plan quantities. Kangaroo itself was incredible, the bread was doughy.
4. With a set menu for 2 people, the size (and price) of the steak is unreasonable. The steak is apparently incredible, and for a larger group it would work well. Why isn't a half size available for smaller parties? Arrogance.
5. We sat at 8:15pm, and had a very long dinner (we walked out at 12:30am!). We were explicitly told the following: "guys we're going to have to ask you to leave as we're closing". This was a little crass, I would have expected: "are you ready for the bill?" to which we would have said yes, and it would be wrapped up in 5 min. The EFTPOS was playing up and the payment experience was a hassle.
6. The lamb was incredible - it was perfect - I really cannot refute its excellence. The rest of the food was unremarkable, uncomplex, uninteresting, unimaginative and repetitive.
7. The atmosphere was flat, particularly for a place you wait to dine at for so long - I would have thought people would be jazzed to be there. I didn't feel the buzz you would do from places like Arthur, Cho Cho San, Apollo, Bistecca, etc.
Lennox is obviously a good chef, but from my perspective, one thing that a chef must have and that you can't learn, is an intrinsic love to share food. From our experience, we gaged that food was a point of arrogance and exclusivity for him. Food was something he learnt. As a result, the experience lacked the warmth and welcoming spirit. It felt clinical and cold.
A. L. F.
Amazing food; the dry aged steak is absolutely outstanding!! Thanks to Chef Hastie and the team for a wonderful service. Highly recommend for a special occasion and to experience the hearth cooking using the best of Australian produce.

Really good real charcoal flavours in all their foods

It was a amazing experience. The food was great. Awesome job

All cooked on fire. Quaily meal with subtle smoky flavours and selection of drinks to impress big spenders. Gluten free on majority of meals.
P. L.
We went there 10 days ago, it was a wonderful experience, especially because with physical distancing we didn't have people talking next to us and the noise was good enough to have a conversation without yelling. They were aware of my dietary requirements (not spicy) but I forgot to mention I don't drink alcohol, so I could have dessert (it was rum with some pastry). Expensive, but I would definitely go back (if they keep the number of customers).
M. A.
I loved how different it is! The food is 100% cooked using wood fire which gives a smoky taste to everything and we loved it. It is a fine dining that worse it. The atmosphere wood and rocks is so cosy and smart, beautiful !
W.
As great as we'd hoped. Lennox really let's the ingredients do the talking! Amazing atmosphere watching the crew cook over those hot coals. Wonderful staff! We can't wait to go back again!

Excellent meal and service
Sat at the kitchen bar and had wonderful conversations with Lennox, owner/Chef. Every dish was explained from source to history of why the raw materials were selected.
The dry age beef was superb.
We created our own tasting menu, a little more cost, but well worth it.
Fine wine selection.
No desserts tonight as it would have taken away from the meal.
A. L.
We visited for dinner last night and we all collectively echoed that it is one of the best dining experiences on this World. Restaurant is very modern and casual look. Warm, inviting with wood as primary decorative elements. Open live kitchen and everything cooked in live fire and the aroma of the grilling is just stunning and make your hungry. Their Bread and cultured butter is to die for.
R. A.
One of my favourite restaurants in Sydney, been a handful of times. Can't fault the food, drinks, service or location. It has mad countertop seating where you can see the cooking if you like that kind of thing. My one gripe, if I want to judge against other higher end restaurants, is the toilet is not technically in the restaurant, but overall this isn't an issue.
t. z.
Above average fine dining level.
Good with bbq seafood and veg,
Desserts are just like the $3 water bought from 7/11
There is no special memorable dishes
Service good

Firedoor is a special place. Everything is cooked over fire making it a unique Sydney restaurant. We were a party of 2 and had an absolutely fantastic experience, sitting at the bar first before moving to the bench overlooking the kitchen. A great restaurant choice for 2 but also a top pick for a group of people.
Opted for the Chef's Choice menu and were super pleased with that. Dishes designed for sharing so choosing your own dishes also a good way to do it. Quality, fresh produce cooked with care. Everything was good but as crazy as it seems the bread and butter was a standout. As were the prawns, the beef, the fish...........
Interesting wine list with broad range of prices. Kicked off with a fantastic cocktail from the list - cleverly included a nod to the fire theme.
Service from the first greeting, to the bar, from the floor manager to the kitchen and head chef was simply outstanding. Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
Everything about the restaurant made for a special night. A top choice for Sydney dining and highly recommended.
S. F.
Loved the experience, highly recommend sitting at the bar to watch the magic happening

I loved this place! On my final night in central Sydney I wanted to go for a nice dinner. The ambiance is lovely and staff super friendly. I sat at the bar which allowed me to see more of the action. I chose the chefs menu which was amazing! I loved every last dish and every glass of wine. Everyone treated me like royalty. Victoria was especially attentive and it was amazing to get to meet the chef. I only wish I wasn’t leaving... also that I had purchased the signed cookbook. Next time I’m here I will come again. Thanks soo much!!

So blessed to have a renowned chef in town with real skill!

Staffs were love caring, great food and location.

I love the fact that the food is cooked over fire, this technique is very difficult to master, so hats off to the chefs cooking technique. The staff were very friendly and helpful - attentive and happy to explain the menu offering. We were somewhat underwhelmed with our meal. We ordered a number of dishes and were more than satisfied with the quantities served with each dish. However, as one reviewer (Andrew - below), stated, our favourite dishes were the bread/butter and the potatoes. The fish, lamb and squid were not defining dishes. I was expecting to smell or taste at least a subtle smoky flavour you would expect from food cooked over a flavoured firewood. Would I go back again - probably not

I had watched the Netflix series Chef's BBQ and was so enamoured that I called the restaurant the following day to book. They said they had no tables till February 2021 unless i booked a large table of 8. I happily took it. Upon my arrival I was asked by the staff to immediately remove my hat because "Lennox doesn't like it" . It was the first sign of the rest of the experience. I asked the waitress to stow it, she took it from my hand and plonked it at the end of the table (perhaps it was a covid thing). I had recommended this restaurant to my friends and I was so hoping it would meet my expectations but it was a total let down. Not total. That's not fair. On top of the set menu we were forced to eat from, they had a wagyu steak at 125aud each that we could add on top of the 145aud set menu. This is before wine. At times there were some good bits in the mix - to be fair i don't really remember anything stand-out apart from the steak and potatoes which was a 9 out of 10. The rest of it would have been an interesting dish from a local Cafe, sometimes a liquid sauce with some charcoaled kale or some such thing on a vegetable creating textures that were incongruent and not exactly challenging or thought provoking. If you watched the show on Netflix and bought the story you'd think Lennox who doesn't like hats in his restaurant was a genius. Only he's not. He's just using fire to charcoal food. I had such high hopes that maybe as Aristotle said "conflict is wherever there is a gap in expectations" . Perhaps the people at Chef's Table are to blame. I would love to go back there for the meat alone but if its going to stay set menu throughout Covid then I'd say give it a pass. As for my hat - I promise I won't make the same mistake again. But if I see you ever make an exception for a celebrity ill certainly be taking note. In the meantime I have to find a way to win back the trust of those 7 I had to bring with me who all felt and expressed similar sentiment.

Tried the chef’s menu this Tue. with my partner and everything was perfect! Food delivered smoothly and in a good pace.
Loved the red throat emperor fish fillet, so tender and fresh! And the dessert was a bomb and a delightful surprise. (Both of us felt the brandy at the bottom was a bit too much tho, lost the balance a bit, still yum but)
The food was more than enough and so we actually struggled a bit to finish the aged beef. But it tastes so good so we finished all anyway!
Great dining experience overall, would love to go back again!
O. F.
Awesome restaurant, decor, kitchen and setup. Had my birthday dinner and drinks here and it was pretty good. Food however was not what I was expecting. Didn't get much of that open fire flavors through the dishes and portions were quite small considering their price and what went in to each dish. The aged steak is definitely a must try though. One of my top 10 steaks in Australia (top 5 if the price was right)
N. W.
I like the atmosphere of the restaurant and the fact that you're able to see the grill while eating. We had a lunch menu for 90 AUD plus oysters. Oysters and the starter (sashimi) was excellent. Very well thought and balanced. The following fish was ok but the sides are really nothing special. The meet for the main was nice and tender however i missed some flavour. Again the sides did not keep up with it, it was too salty and pretty oily. The dessert was quite disappointing and I would not want to pay money for this again. It was a nice experience however I really think it is way overpriced because there is some room for improvement to make it a perfect menu. I will give it another try in a few months because I think the potential is there.
C. T.
Great food and atmosphere. Slightly pricey
K. E.
Stunning food, all created by a great mind, one part genius and one part madman. The pursuit to smoke food to a delightful maltiness that comes through very subtle at time and strong at others shows incredible consideration and the result of amazing experience. Very unique dining experience coupled with great, attentive service.
J. G.
Unique and delicious food prepared with love.
B. P.
Authentic, great atmosphere even in a covid world, amazing cocktails. Hero's the food with smart cooking. Wonderful staff. I will go back.
A. Y.
Marron and steak!
Cozy relaxed place to dine with friends
Food 5/5
Service 5/5
Ambience 5/5
C. P.
Accidentally booked for the wrong day but they were still able to accommodate us.
The decor and ambience is great for a date night.
Wow, the dry aged rib of beef was out of this world amazing. Well worth the price. The meat was cooked perfectly. The fat of meat melted in your mouth but somehow held a perfect shape (how is this possible?). This fatty part complimented the meat very well.

Firedoor was the best meal I've had in recent memory. The space is small, but open and intimate. It is the perfect spot for a romantic night out. We started the night with the bread and smoked butter. It was perfectly balanced with flavor and the smoke was not overbearing as it so often is when used. We didn't have reservations (definitely worth making one to ensure you've got a spot) and were seated at the bar, which faced inside the open kitchen. Watching the owner/chef cook was truly mesmerizing and made me appreciate more than ever the culinary arts. We were given the sweet corn and straciatella cheese as an appetizer, which was a pleasant and delicious surprise. In addition, we ordered the lamb and veal both which were cooked to perfection, tender, and complemented perfectly with a carrot puree and potatoes respectively. I wish I was visiting longer just to visit this restaurant again. A fabulous experience that we greatly enjoyed.
W. Y.
Set menu for these pandemic times but it doesn’t not fail to please the one with an eclectic and curious tastebuds.
While proteins are revered, it’s actually the art of using fire on with-selected vegetables that impresses me most.
Coupled with affable and personal hosts (and sommelier) you are definitely in for a “smokin” treat should you have the good fortune of dining here.
W. C.
Smoking!!!
I’ve been here twice in the last 2 months it was that good I just wanted to go back and taste more! The meat is incredibly smokey, cooked to perfection with an interesting array of sides to accompany. The wine list is a little pricey but has a good range. Check out their steak knives, hand forged by a local forger, winner!
t. m.
great smell and great food only thing is the music.Australia has people of continuous culture for 60000 years born by, love by ,and die by fire and no music to give a little atmosphere of where we are on this planet, yes Australia..
M. L.
So great! Best place for anniversary and dating! Service is so nice and the food is fabulous! From the entry to the dessert. Everything is so amazing. Recommended by friends and can’t help to thinking about this place. Don’t have time to take photo, just enjoy! Grilled chilly & Dry aged steak🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
R. W.
Delicious. I personally always order a steak here which is always mouthwatering and delicious. I have also tried the flounder and do partake in the sides which are adventurous and tasty. This is a great venue for 2 -4 of your best mates or your loved one.
F. C.
I had high expectations going in and Firedoor was definitely not what I thought it would be.
I felt as though we were forgotten multiple times throughout the service. Our seating started at 8:30 and ended at almost 12:00 for a 5 course on shared plates...
Half the food was average, the service was lacking and for $250pp damage, I'd put my money elsewhere.
C. V.
My partner and I were really looking forward to dining at Fire Door. We were very underwhelmed by the whole night. We ordered 7 dishes, 2 which were great (bread and whole cooked fish) and the rest were pretty bland and boring. We had high hopes but not sure we will give it another go at the high price point ($300 for 3). The wait staff were great, but as we came in the greeter was on his phone and took a good minute to even acknowledge us.
M.
Every dishes are so perfectly done and i could still remember all the dishes I've had after a month. The 'salad dish with mushrooms' was simply mind blowing😬😦
Definitely coming back!!
M. S.
Fire Door is special. The ambiance is alluring, the staff are a combination of informative, prompt, and provide the perfect flow for the evening.
I loved every dish (the 172 day dry ages rib of beef is out of this world).
The cocktails and wine only elevate the ambiance and food.
Perfect for an intimate dinner for two and for close friends to share an evening that will leave you with fond memories.
A. N.
4.5 stars. Had the chef’s menu with the dry aged beef. Food was delicious and the wait staff were great. We were in a bit of the rush but they were very accommodating and had the chef churn out each course at super speed. The only (minor) let down was that the bombe Alaska was a bit icy for my liking. I would recommend trying the dry aged beef. It was so flavourful, different to any steak I’ve had before. Mine was quite salty and the piece of meat was quite fatty - just something to keep in mind if that’s not your cup of tea.
P. W.
This place was superb from start to finish. We were feeling indecisive so got the chef's menu. We also asked the waiter to bring us wine to go with the various courses. Basically, sat back and let the food and drink arrive :-)
The food was superb from start to finish and wine pairings were also excellent. The service was with a smile from (I think) Steve, who was excellent. The only slight failing was when I waiter went home for the evening after our main was served, we were kind of forgotten about and had to ask where our desert had got to. I'll forgive them this small failing though as everything else was so good!
E. C.
Fantastic meal at Firedoor. Service was excellent and the star of the meal was the cod head that they gifted us...the 170+ day aged steak was also good:-) beautiful decor, place settings etc. You can tell a lot of thought and effort went into this restaurant. First class.
E. B.
Superb service. The food was wonderful but there was the odd bit on each plate that seemed to lack flavour. That's being totally picky though. To be honest it we hadn't read the NY times reviews of this place and just stumbled across it I'd be rating it 5 stars. The portions are a little on the small size considering the price. I'd recommend going as a couple instead of in a larger group as some of the dishes wouldn't lend themselves to being shared at a larger scale very well.
Regardless, we had a great night. The trevally and bread and butter were aces.
J. L.
Great flavors. Excellent steak. But pricey.
F. F.
Best streak I've ever had i reckon. Somelier had fun with wine matchings which was nice. Enjoyed every dish but not all were satisfying. Ambience is nice even with restrictions in place.
C. Z.
Beautiful food with top quality ingredients and incredible service. Staff go out of their way to ensure your experience is amazing. Be sure to sit by the bar! Overview of the kitchen and you get to see the chefs in action. Will 100% be back!!
S. “. W.
By far the best steak I have ever eaten in my life...
j. l.
Absolutely amazing food, great service
V. A.
Amazing concept. All food cooked on fire or with fire. The Murray River cod was so tender and delicious. Highly recommended.
Staff was very attentive and were happy to accommodate the dietary requirements around the table.
Would definitely be returning to Firedoor!
c. f.
Great food, excellent service, friendly and polite and a dining experience like no other. With a daily changing menu and catering to dietary needs and requirements, there is truly something for everyone. If you’re in Sydney you need to check this out!!!
S. M.
Steak lovers simply must try their dry-aged rib of beef. For $176, you're not going to eat it all the time, but do it once. It's very, very good, but I must say, the second time I ate it, it was wayyyy too over-salted, so you might like to ask them to go easy on the salt, so you can add it yourself at the table.
R. C.
Really good food, steak is amazing, smoked fish and the bread is also really tasty. Smoked butter... Yum!
A. L.
Love this place, great food, great service, great chef, big fire...very happy
J. F.
Great food skilfully prepared and not pretentious. One of the best meals that I have had in a long time. Even better then my meal at Cosme in NYC, ranked 25th in the World’s Top 50.
D. B.
This establishment brings the warm and open ambiance of a fireside gathering to an indoor bar and restaurant. I must recommend the kitchen bar seats. There you will be treated to the view the complete culinary process from starting the coals, and stoking the flames to carefully slicing and presenting each masterfully made dish. The owner and chef took the time to not only prepare the food with the Firedoor team, but also speak to us on the dishes we received! The lamb and veal were as succulent as the flames they were cooked upon were impressive. I cannot forget to mention that the whiskey ginger I had there was the most satisfying I have had on the continent. Worth every penny.
F. L.
Fantastic place. Went there for lunch and had a few seafood starters and the whole fish. Incredible flavours, they really put a lot of effort into the food and it had this genuine craftsmanship feel to it. The desserts were superb as well. Would come back
R. L.
A place where class and meat explode into flames. Leaving you with smouldering meaty classy fire fest of deliciousness.
Every bite is in for a wild ride as you devour each morsel.
Watching the kitchen come alive with "Fire & Knives" is wonderful. Dibs on that as a title!!
Oh yes, the beautiful orange glow of the flames cooking all the selected ingredients in order to please your taste buds.
I am definitely going here again.
S. C.
Exquisite cuisine and a wonderful experience!
L. P.
We celebrated my partner’s 40th here and had a great night. Lennox took great care of us and we opted for the tasting menu plus wine matching. The food was lovely, but slightly over priced.
B.
Dined here about a week ago. We had the tasting menu set. Everything was good -- even the bread and the butter that came with it. We had 2 servings of the bread. It was that good. Special thanks to the guys who added in a couple of things that were not part of the set. :) The pork was 👌👌👌
D. L.
The dry aged steak was to die for. If you want a Friday/Saturday night sitting at a reasonable tome, always best to book this far in advance. The restaurant itself is nice and intimate and doesn’t feel too crowded. A good spot for a date night or a special occasion
C. P.
Spent five nights in Sydney. Didn't have a bad meal, but this was far and away the best meal. Food was brilliant and service was miles beyond excellent. In particular, their clam dish might be one of my best of all time. I can recommend this place with unbridled enthusiasm.
B. D.
Wow! Fantastic service I turned up unannounced on a Saturday night. They placed us both at the bar after that Jimmy and Mel looked after us. So I would say it was the single best dinner experience thus far. Thanks will definitely be telling my friends and family.
L. W.
Absolutely loved this restaurant !! Took my bf here for his 30th birthday and he loved it even more.
The staff were incredible, very attentive and knew a lot about the dishes .... the food was amazing and that dry aged rib on the bone was the best piece of meat we've ever put in our mouths.
The chef (Lennox) even took the time to chat to us, amongst the craziness of how busy he was.
We'll be back!
A. C.
Good food but something missing - didn’t quite live up to expectations we’d heard from friends and read about. Service a bit disjointed. Maybe an off night. Wood fired bread and smoked butter most memorable things (pretty epic though).
T. K.
Trendy. Smoked beef was excellent but not sure smoky flavour worked with other choices. Wine list was interesting if not cheap. Kitchen service was a tad slow but a good evening can be hard here.
k. c.
166 day aged was fantastic! The aromas of smokey wood fill the restaurant
E. L.
1st time here and will be back. Fantastic service and all staff are friendly. Hats off to Lennox and team cooking with fire and still wearing their masks. It’s no easy feat. Thank you.
P. R.
Exceptional food but probably a little overpriced. Couldn't fault the service though.
R. V.
Service was fantastic! I really loved their recommendations and their menu on that day was amazing in presentations as well as taste! Really nothing to complain about. I strongly suggest a visit for special occasions or good date nights
R. T.
Great venue who only cook their food on woodfire. It creates a unique taste to the food, a smoked taste. Service is good. Atmosphere is nice and cosy. It's very spacious. Portions are rather small but let you try many dishes. However it's quite pricy. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, go there.
L. T.
I would give it 3.5. I went on a weeknight with my partner and we had purchased the 8 course and was given amazing service to begning with but as the night went on we were neglected. All the other diners around us were being attended to and given clean plates after each course whilst we wernt and im assuming maybe cause it was clear that we were the youngest within the crowd. The food was really nice. Well plated, well seasoned, and decent portions. I just wish that the service could of been better cause it was just disappointing to pay so much for horrible service.

Fire Door –
Attended for mothers birthday.
I sadly had very high hopes for this restaurant, the advertisements and the reviews painted an amazing picture. The food is pretty average considering the price and the hype. Our waiter was clueless to what was being served, she was reading out some menu which she had memorised but any fool could look at the dish and see what she said it was clearly was not correct. Overall, the place had a very commercial feel and left the group disappointed with a somewhat lacking experience.
Look don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice place but I can count a myriad other places which would be much higher on my preference list.
Word of caution – we ordered the degustation menu – the main was duck heart – which is a little annoying as the menu is listed as chefs choice of the day. If you are going to serve something like that you should advise or at least indicate. Mum and Sister wouldn’t touch it – ruined their night in a single course.
R. E.
Fantastic atmosphere, friendly professional service and amazing food. Dinner for two at the counter, overlooking the chefs in action; watching them craft their art. Split 3 smaller dishes and 2 mains. Managed to squeeze in desert at the end. Exceptional food and a real gem of a restaurant.
A. H.
Had the chef’s special with 154 day dry beef and wine. In general, I liked it but the food comes very slow even it wasn’t busy at all and I couldn’t really enjoy the beef that I was waiting for coz I was already too full. A bit pricy too comparing what you actually get.
C. A.
One of the best meals and experiences we have ever had! We were given a gift voucher as a wedding present, and from the moment we set foot in the restaurant we were treated like royalty. All of the staff seemed to know about the wedding present and could not have been more warm and good fun - Lennox Hastie has clearly picked a great team to deliver a fabulous experience. And they were so accommodating for my pregnant wife, frequently separating a seafood dish to cook hers a little more, etc.
The food is also exceptional and really different from anything we have had in Australia... Just fresh ingredients, either chargrilled over coals or smoked in the Etxebarri style, and simply presented without too many fancy sauces or theatrics. A real breath of fresh air. Hard to pick a best course... the 220 day aged wagyu ribeye is beef perfection, the smoked/grilled seafood is incredible (I especially liked the WA marron), and they do a lot of grilled vegetable courses that are spectacular. And all in a simple, unpretentious setting, accompanied by a very different and interesting wine list.
We can't recommend it enough... both for the food and the overall experience. Thanks to all those who looked after us. This is my first ever online restaurant review, just as a guide as to how much we enjoyed it!
J. B.
Had a birthday dinner here on a late sitting Friday night, sat at the kitchen for 8 course feast and loved it! The stracciatella/tom salad, broccoli chilli brittle and of course the 227 day dried rib was definitely the standout! Possibly the best piece of meat we've had ever and service was super friendly and helpful - well done to the team!
E. H.
There only a handful of restaurants my partner and I return to. Firedoor is at the top of that list. Their steaks are the star off the show, yet don't write of the fish. The bread deserves a special mention for its Smokey goodness. Wine selection is extensive and service is too notch.
D. M.
Incredibly good food.
We have been a few times with friends but the ever changing menu is that good that we prefer that it is just the two of us. That way we can spend more time fully appreciating the various courses
A. B.
Was good but not wow. Was expecting more meat dishes. The kingfish was by far our standout dish. I think others have mentioned this, but this restaurant is not for everyone. Great experience, but i dont think i would go back due to the limited menu.
S. D.
This place is very expensive and has uncomfortable seating, between 3 we had a $330 steak... it tasted ok but for a $450 meal it just wasn’t good enough and each dish lacked an X factor. We left disappointed.
M. R.
Wow had dinner here, this place is amazing got the chefs menu which is like a set menu was so worth it.
I guess u never know what to expect when the food comes out ,food 10/10 service 10/10 realy relaxing place.
Special thanks to angelica for ur hospitality.
J. V.
This restaurant had nice ambience and a romantic vibe. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, more specifically the Black Market Chuck Tail. It was incredibly tender and juicy. We will definitely return!
L. B.
2016 was good but as of 1-Jan-2017 their management makes you give them your credit card details over the phone and will not give you a booking until this is done. Wasn't too impressed by this choice. Otherwise, food is good and pleasant atmosphere.
A. R.
I really used to like this eatery! However, the take out food no longer taste the way it used to.
I know when you see the line to pick up food it seems like the best food but it's not!
Very disappointed customer. Not sure what the cook was doing today, the soup is burned, the curry chicken is tasteless and the rice and peas needs to be cooked...
S. H.
Overall the food, wine & service were excellent. However given the name of the restaurant I was expecting to have fire on display more in the dishes. Not a complaint, just wasn’t what I had envisioned.
R. S.
Delicious, original food in a relaxed fine-dining atmosphere. Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff. The cocktails were great too, and reasonably priced by Sydney standards.
T. S.
Fantastic food. Did chefs menu upgrading to the meat. Well worth it. They tailored the chefs menu too as my husband doesn't eat seafood.
B. H.
Firedoor was a restaurant that my mate and i have been wanting to try for a few months, and we finally made the short trek there this week.
Ordered the school prawns (entrée), the Murray Cod and Pork Belly (mains) and the cheesecake granola (dessert).
The Murray Cod was the standout - slightly raw lean pieces, and the tender fried fish head made for an amazing dish alongside a slightly citrus sauce. The meat in the fish cheeks was the best.
Recommended - and the dessert was also unique and delicious!
R. C.
When you walk in you immediately smell the fire scent, so inviting! The food is scrumptious too. They ever so kindly let us try one of the marron on the house. Also, you must get the oysters with the rhubarb granita. So so good!!!
M. C.
My partner and i went here for Valentine's day 2019. The menu was fantastic. The food was not as delightful as i expected, but the decor, ambience and staff was excellent
J. K.
I had the pleasure of eating the chef's tasting menu and as the pictures show, it was one for the ages. Chef Lennox and his amazing team prepared a gastronomical experience that is arguably the best in Sydney. We started with wafer thin lavosh which had thin slices of cured meats, followed by a beautiful Enoki soup with smoked tofu. The masterpiece of the meal for me was a veal hearts flatbread which melted in your mouth and was infused with the smokey flavour of the firepit. That's where firedoor comes into the forefront, it's usage of heat and the elements to create an experience which means that texture and temperature are linked. As chef Lennox explained to us, brussel sprouts taste sweeter as they chill and it's that attention to detail which makes this place outstanding. A must try
T. A. L.
Outstanding food and service. Highly recommended if you can get a seat on bench over looking the kitchen. You can eat and watch the master fire manipulator, as he works the coal to delivered tasty morsel of food. Not a gas hob in sight.
M. P.
Interesting meals with well balanced flavours, not overstated or brash. Excellent wine pairings. Good, timely service, not interrupting unnecessarily. Highly recommended.
P. Y.
Special experience, love the A7 steak and the entry bread
S. G.
First time. Very high intense flavour. Can't really compare but would say it's pricey.good mood setting and would say it's Limited seating so booking advance it best way to go.
J. H.
food as always is excellent, however the service was a bit cold, and ruined the vibe of what was supposed to be a happy birthday lunch. This was the fault of the sommellier with the heart shaped mole.
Our secondary waiter did his best to liven the atmosphere from frosty clinical to subtropical autmun day.
its not cheap to eat at places like firedoor, i expect the heat and excitement from the fires that burn within Hasties kitchen to be matched on the floor.
Smile people, its not hard.
W. J.
Innovative menu that changes daily. Very welcoming atmosphere with friendly efficient service. Execution of the food is very good but short of great. Prices are reasonable for the quality. In short a very enjoyable casual restaurant.
L. F.
MUST GO. Book in advance it’s a super populair place as the food, decor and staff are all amazing. Thank you for looking after is, especially as we only had little time unfortunately. Nice to see Lennox in the kitchen.
Cod was UNREAL.
C. B.
Cool vibe, food with real flavour and amazed at what can be accomplished with fire alone. The beef was superb and we'll worth adding.
C. T.
Reservation was hard to get but definitely worth the effort. Great ambiance and amazing courses from start to end.
J.
Incredible food, great story. Fantastic chef - insanely tender and tasty meat...
Right recommended!
J.
This restaurant is not for everyone. You will not get the pampered service you would otherwise expect from a fine dining hatted restaurant.
The food was lovely and clearly where the awarded hats are centred but as an experience to remember it is low on my list.
C. D.
This was a great experience. We were guided by the waiter's recommendations and everything was not only delectable but new to me in either taste, aroma or appearance.
Save up and GO.
W. J.
Fantastic food and experience. Very friendly staff and delicious menu
M. O.
Fantastic restaurant especially during winter. Sensational food and lots of it, beautiful flavours top service. We loved the space too with it's chunky decor and finishings. Thanks

R. B.
The best meal I had in Surry Hills, if not Sydney. Friendly staff who are more than happy to recommend and discuss the menu, very knowledgeable too. Favourite restaurant by a country mile.
J. L.
Amazing steak and mackerel! Visually impressive kitchen. Customer service was on point. Only regret... we didn’t get the bread.
A. P.
Everythingbhere is amazing! From the delicious food and excellent service, to the decor and the ambiance. I highly recommend for a special occasion.
Portion sizes are great, and I was left wanting for nothing.
F. C.
Great experience. I've tried the 6 courses menu: very good quality. Great choice from the wine list with many foreign bottles you should try.
S. O.
Awesome night at Firedoor! Definitely recommend the chef menu and front row seat to watch the team in action. Top it off with the cocktail: old dog, new trick.
V. F.
Best steak I've ever had (and I went to billions of steakhouse) the smoked flavor was heaven on Earth, even down to the appetiser the veggie dishes, all was special, a must try if u r in town!
A. A. F.
I heard quite good reviews however I think it's probably decayed over time. The food was not bad but prawn was slightly under cooked. Staff were very friendly but I think the food doesn't match the price and hype.
W. B.
Smokey food without the barbecue vibe. Dark, rich flavoured meats. I usually through away the fat on steaks but in my opinion here, it's the best bit.
R. S.
Wonderful cocktails! We did the tasting menu...it was amazing. A highlight of my trip to Sydney.
M. L.
Amazing dry aged steak. Have to try it! I went with my partner for his birthday and they brought out a cute dessert with a candle
R.
Chefs menu underwhelming with incredibly overpriced wine. We had heard so much about this place but left feeling very deflated and a little bit ripped-off. Meh
B. C.
Fantastic food centred around injecting fire and bold flavours into everything you eat. Great cocktails and wine. Every course highly recommended.
L. M.
Staff were very professional yet friendly. Food is a refined spotlight on cooking with no gas, no electricity. Thank you for having us, Chef!
A. B.
Nothing special. very very overpriced
200$ steak wasn't worth the try. i had way better meet at more reasonable prices around the country.
S. M.
Best night in a long time....great service, produce orientated food perfected on the grill. Matching wines....been in the industry for 30+ years, but this was amazing.
Cheers
j. m.
What a great feed and night.Steve is very educated on the dishes, Lennox was entertaining, informative & so down to earth. What a magic experiance at the chefs bar & exposed to the elements of the kitchen. We will be back to try the 200+ beef.. Thankyou Firedoor for an outstanding night. From the Westy Couple from Kemps Creek.😆
N. S.
Hands down the best dining experience in Australia! From the first greeting at the door to the final course of the meal, everything was perfect!
S. B.
Best beef... expensive but great experience
J. T.
Lennox you and your crew are magic.
S. A.
Amazing food cooked on open fires backed up by great service and fantastic ambience. We will be going back, make sure you have dessert!
H. H.
Excellent staff and environment. They have good aged steak and a nice bar
Recommended to make a booking in advance and maybe hard to find parking
R. G.
Wonderful experience, very attentive staff, very friendly, delicious food, i love watching a great kitchen in action
S. D.
Beautiful spot. Exceptional service.
R. W.
Amazing. 152 day dry aged beef was TOP NOTCH. One of the best pieces of meat I’ve ever had.
S. K.
Great concept and very good aged steak, but terribly overpriced and pretty pretentious. Left hungry after a $300 bill for 2 and went for chips at great pub up the road.
N. M.
Wow! What an experience! The food here is second to none! Not cheap, but very well worth it. Will happily return.
M. W.
Their home packs are sensational.
I am tempted to order one every week. Great for special occasion.
G. L.
Please sort your website out. On mobile phones it impossible to see your menu. I want to book but for the love of god I can't find what you serve. So easy to sort out.
J. S.
Food was amazing, especially the steak. Our waiter was extremely entertaining and helpful.
K. C.
Great food and atmosphere. The smoked butter....... I would love to buy a massive tub of that!
D. C.
Perfect restaurant, and excellent food. Service is great too. By the way, the Dry-aged steak is my favorite.
C. W.
Slick ambience and good service. Went with a group and were treated well. Food was above average but not stellar. The grill is the real deal.
J. k.
Ate here a long time ago now, the aged steak was 5 star. Portions were too small for the price ♠️ @globalfoodquest

Very friendly owner/head chef! The full experience. Best steak in Sydney. Cosy. Suggest a spot st the kitchen

Amazing restaurant! Highly recommend.
V. A.
It was yummy! Good food, but just good, not exceptional, not worth $140. Sorry.
E. A.
Awesome food, amazing tantalising the tastebuds beyond your imagination.

I was OK, but just OK and not at the standard I would expect from its reputation or cost. We were made to wait 15 minutes for our table, despite having a booking and despite it being unoccupied. None of the food we ordered was bad, but nothing was remarkable either.
C. L.
Great food, especially with the use of indigineous food. Spent our 20th anniversary here, great choice.
S. C.
Couldn't recommend highly enough, the service was incredible, the fitout was amazing and the food was off the chain 10/10 and a whopping 8 courses. 🍴chefs menu
P. N.
It's a big night out kind of dinner. Best suited for couples. Perfectly cooked, great steak and bombe alaska
S. E.
Love, love, love this establishment. I've been back many times and I'm never disappointed. From service to the food it's top notch.

Wine great.
Service great.
Food very one dimensional.
M. W.
Food was great but unfortunately the person looking after us was not interested in looking after us
Had to flag down other staff to get drinks menu and then drinks, we were in the corner at the grill but even as the place started emptying out we were still apparently invisible
Out of frustration I just ended up just going to the bar myself to order drinks
This really detracted from our experience
J. C.
The most delicious meal I’ve had in Sydney. Even the cabbage tasted like a gourmet meal in its own right
R. T.

Very expensive and not that good. The place is beautiful and the service was fine but the food wasn't that great. I did love the banana/popcorn dessert though!

The steak is hard to beat, but some of the other dishes (and their prices!) were a disappointment...
D. J.
This seems like a place where you get prompt and friendly service. My portions were ample and tasted just right.
B. E.
Some dishes are extremely overpriced - but I would go back just for the steak and the bread.

D. W.
Good food, great service but expensive. Calm, spacious and pleasant.

Top shelf food, but be wary of their homemade cola, it tastes maybe 30% like actual cola
B. H.
Unreal theater at the kitchen bar. Food is delicious and staff are great. Fun night.
C. S.

Fresh and smoky, although the execution and service don't really live up to 2-hats?
