This place hasn't changed a bit, in a good way. Maybe the menu, slightly.
It's been a while since I've been back and made a reservation (recommend) beforehand.
However, flaw of the evening was the lamb rack which was a bit under, despite the sous vide taste. My steak was marvelous as I remembered it to be.
Staff were happy and helpful to be back and complemented a minor error with a cheesecake - I'm not usually a cheesecake fan but it was amazing.
For a side dish, I recommend the truffle Mac n cheese, cos it's legit truffle and not oil BS.
Extensive wine selection for the lovers out there too!

We arrived in Sydney and are staying at QT. With not having much breakfast because of our early flight we decided to treat ourselves to Gowing which is the fine dining restaurant inside the hotel on the 1st Floor.
My lovely wife order for us and she started off with the Burrata. We both haven’t tried this before but we both love cheese. We expected it to be heavy but it was so light and fresh !
We continued our meal with the Caesar salad which is present with a show of them making it in front of you. Our waiter Irnesto put on the show and his lovely charisma made it fun and delicious. Our meals was followed by duck fat potato’s and the handmade pasta Mafaldi.
I really enjoyed our fine dining experience with the team at Gowings the service was fun and professional and the food came out quick and presented nicely. I have visited the bar every night since my stay at QT and I love the energy and the ambience which is the reason why I keep returning to it.

Had a few pre dinner drinks on Friday night at Gowings. Both restaurant and bar were extremely busy with a nice vibe. They have a good selection of spirits, wine and beer. Bar and wait staff are extremely busy so interactions are kept at a minimum, but service is still of high quality and you won’t have to wait too long to order.

The girl on the front of house was rude and lacks any customer service skills. If I was on undercover boss, I would have sacked her on the spot.
Anyhow, great bar service, and table service, food-wise the cauliflower steak was exceptional.
The minute streak was cooked to order, however the fries were over cooked and tasted like they had been recycled.
K. P.
The staff and the food were both great at gowings bar and grill. The duck fat potatoes and the zucchini flower fritti were definitely the highlights and the biggest let down was the gowings signature cheesecake which I thought was too dry.

My clients and i had the best lunch at the newly opened Gowings restaurant. Sean the Creative Director (Exec chef) greeted us and made us feel so welcome. The food and service was amazing (Crab pasta a real hit) and the drinks and deserts excellent.
I am so happy that this restaurant has come back stronger than ever - and i look forward to coming back - maybe leaving the car at home!! Thanks to Sean and his great team:)

Food taste wise was as expected (nothing out of the ordinary), however presentation of steaks dishes looked like straight out of the pub, which did not match the location and ambience of restaurant. Desserts were nice.
Waitstaff were friendly and attentive.

Beautiful location, wonderful service and exquisite food. Had a great night celebrating my Mums birthday. The staff were lovely and very accommodating for one of our group in a wheelchair. The interior is also gorgeous. Makes for a great dining experience

Today was the first lunch sitting with Covid.
Atmosphere was busy and the decor upbeat bar bistro.
Food prices were up there so I had great expectations but it all was very average. I had the veal and potatoes.
It probably could have used a wine sauce or something to give it some ooomph but even presentation was lacking. It was ok, but nothing that would draw me to come back to this restaurant for.
More can be done with this awesome venue and I think needs to up its game in a city of brilliant foods at reasonable prices.
L. M.
The service was excellent. Food was simple. Maybe a bit too simple. With the new look of the venue, I would have expected a more wow factor for food.
S. Y.
Beautiful decor, very nice vibe and amazing location. The dining room is stunning and the service was perfect. Professional but fun with engaging staff. the wine list is excellent, that's the 4 stars attributed.
The food was too plain for the price. $32 for 2 raw scampis with a drizzle of olive oil on the top. ANYONE can make this at home for 10 bucks. Cesar salad for also $32 with no chicken or anything in there except for lettuce dressing, parmesan and a couple of anchovies. Fillet steak well cooked but underwhelming. Overall the food is so simple that any amateur cook can make it at home. Not what you'd expect from the venue.
N. C.
Absolutely stellar dinner. Came with 6 people for a birthday dinner and had a fantastic time. The wine list is top notch, the food is out of this world, and the service was friendly and punctual. Highly recommended!

Did not go as could not find the entrance. A real secret.
we were on George st outside the Mecca building and saw the sign on the upper floors and wanted to check out the bar and grill. but could not find the entrance. We went down market st a little after googling it but not as far as the State theatre ... even after the reply from the owner I still do not know where it is and what Hotel he is talking about
B. W.
Jack is killing it behind the bar!!
His cocktail called camera shy is absolutely hands down the best cocktail I've tasted in Sydney!!!
Thanks for a fantastic evening!

A very nice place. We caught bartender trying to cheat us but the management acted very profesionally. The dodgy person was fired and we were treated very nicely.
The atmosphere is really good, dimmed lights with the bar in the middle. There was a DJ playing the music which wasn't too loud and we were able to enjoy the conversation.
Caipirinha was great and so was food: ceviche in a cone, fried chicken, scallops and prawns served on a lettuce leaf.
Very nice place for a cocktail or a date.
S. V.
Loved the atmosphere and design of the restaurant. Our waiter was a joy. Explaind the menu and took the time to let us ask whatever we wondered. Good drinks and good food. We all had steak in some form, and the meat was perfect. Only thing to give a minus was the waitingtime on drinks along the meal. But all in all a good experience!
S. L.
Excellent quality of steaks and food here. I had the rib eye black angus 320gm steak rare ($48). The steak was fantastic and came with a nice Bearnaise sauce, the experience felt premium. I also had some of the house red wine which was actually surprisingly good for only being the 'house' variant. We went on a Friday night and it was reasonably busy so best to book ahead of time if you intend to go.
M. B.
I've been here twice now, the menu has changed since the first time. The food tastes okay, not bad, not great, steaks are cooked properly, but the flavour is a hit or miss.
Pricing for menu items is too high for the food you get though, and it's undeserved.
I would recommend it only if you can't find an alternative,as reservations haven't been necessary the two times I've been here (dinnertime weekends)
C. L.
Reasonably priced set menu ($65) for a set of three dishes - entrée, main and dessert. The Kingfish ceviche was a light and beautifully flavoured start to the night however compared to the Farmers Salad, portion size was considerably smaller. The chicken in the Farmers Salad was nice albeit a little tasteless, especially given that it was smoked. For main, I had the striploin. The first thing I noticed was that the plate was a little underwhelming with nothing but the cut of meat. The meat however was cooked well and had a good depth of flavour. Finally, for dessert I had the salted chocolate caramel. Personally, not a fan of overly sweet or sticky desserts but it seemed to be liked by everyone around the table. Overall, I felt that the food was elegant and the menu was well thought out however there could definitely be more work done on creating more flavourful dishes. One thing that I will say is that we were charged with a hefty amount for still and sparkling water ($76) which I felt was overly exorbitant and a little bit sneaky.

This place can be tricky to find, if you're not familiar with it. Catch the lift from lobby area next to the State Theatre. There are signs in the lift. Gowings is a great place to have a drink or a meal if you're going to the Theatre for a show. It's also just lovely spot to meet up. They have a restaurant and two bars. One bar downstairs, with the restaurant. The other is upstairs and has a few couches, high bar tables as well as a couple of semi-private spaces off to the side. I'd recommend booking a table, if your looking to have dinner here. It can get busy. If your after drinks though, there is an extensive cocktail, spirits and wine list. They have the full spectrum available, from local beer to high end whiskey, champagne etc. Fancy bar snacks are available until late. The staff are so lovely and incredibly accommodating. My friend has a slight gluten sensitivity and is pregnant, so had a few food restrictions. The staff were willing to accommodate and allowed us to have the restaurant starter menu at the bar, because it had more options for her on it. Overall, it has a very cosy and romantic atmospheric, and would definitely be a good spot for a date. It's not cheap, but it's very nice.
D. R. L.
Cool, stylish bar and trendy restaurant, situated in a tucked away upper level location, with exceptional service all round. Food is very well presented and modern. Upstairs bar is open when busy. We love the breakfast early on a Sunday morning for a top quality meal. Very hip, it is part of the QT Hotel.
J.
Buzzing atmosphere, eclectic and sexy fit-out, big heavily French focussed menu - food is excellent and comprehensive wine list. A no fail dinner in Sydney. Come early and have an espresso martini in the bar before dinner! Recommended
M. A.
Amazing service and mostly great food. Unfortunately got a scotch fillet that was very fatty. Same with my wife’s lamb rack. Which was odd because 30 mins later, the table next to us ordered the same and it looked perfect.
Great wine selection.
Looking forward to the renovation in early 2022.
A. R.
Overall not a bad experience but also nothing to rave about even with the moderately high price point. Lamb was good but nothing special. The pineapple cinnamon caipirinha was surprisingly more of the same. Would have been 4 stars based on food and ambiance but service was poor.
K. C.
I really loved Gowing bar and grill. The staff are very welcoming and professional, I was swirling my glass of wine, and one of the waiters was able to pour into my glass without spilling a drop! The bbq seafood main was stunning, the pancetta J sweet and succulent, the seafood was cooked to my liking. Fries, brussel sprouts and mushroom sides were good. Skip on the mash and the peas... Desserts were the highlight... They are big enough to share!

We dined here on Saturday night for a friend's belated 40th birthday and were extremely disappointed. We booked a table weeks earlier for 8.15pm and ended up waiting 45 minutes to be seated.
The staff kept advising us that they were running behind time and that we'd be seated within 5 minutes. Well those 5 minutes turned into 45 minutes.
Meanwhile other customers who arrived well after us were being seated.
At one stage, while the front-of-house hostess was privately apologising again to one of us, she was told about our friend's celebration. She mentioned that's good intel and she was going to do something special. Nothing special occurred. We Dined. We Payed. We Departed.
This is a classy place - food was exceptional, as were the cocktails we enjoyed before dinner.
But don't expect your booking time to be set in stone even though your credit card is required when you book a table.
Time for Gowings Bar & Grill to improve/update their customer service skills.

I've tried to walk in to dine here so many times and couldn't get a table. Definitely need to book! The bar is incredibly noisy and the noise definitely travels to the restaurant side. The staff are very friendly but could be more attentive. The food was really delicious. The tartare didn't have enough flavour, was a bit plain with the nuts. However the steak was cooked to the perfect doneness and our sides were stellar. Great place to go to for steak.
S. W.
Great service. welcomed warmly multiple times coming into the restaurant. Entrance is via lift from lobby of the Parlour cafe. Exceptional surroundings. This is a lovely place for breakfast! The pancakes are delicious and not too filling.
A. M.
Great bar with an awesome selection of spirits, draught beers and cocktails. Decor was awesome, I'm not a designer but would say 1920's-30's? Food was amazing, and prices you would expect for a restaurant like this. Oh, and the girl at the door on the street was hilarious, in a good way!
T. G.
Booked this restaurant for dinner. Upon arrival, the ladies at reception were very friendly and upbeat, the sirloin steak was delicious. The staff were absolutely professional and I felt very welcomed. The 1 star lost here was with the entrees, they didn’t feel like fine dining options, more like a lunch cafe style selection. Overall it was a pleasant evening.
K. H.
We ate at rhe bar for breakfast. The truffle scrambles were amazing. Mildly disappointed with my gowings breakfast. Service was extremely prompt and sharp. They checked on our Chai latte as my wife wanted it less sweet. Which they did beautifully.
G. W.
Amazing experience, fabolous food and excelent service. The restaurant is open for the public and the interior design makes all the difference.
D. J.
Great food and really good cocktails. Ernesto was fantastic!!
A. Y.
Great place for drinks and dinner. Service are great and nice ambience. Dress smart casual.
L. T.
It is the decor and location that gives this place something unique. Great Town hall location upstairs with a small but focused menu that offers some interesting bar and grill options. The yellow fin tuna steak was good but may be slightly expensive considering the portion sizes. The sides (mac and cheese) were a little too heavy and lack the creaminess.
S. K.
Nice atmosphere, great food and good selection of cocktails
K.
Atmosphere here was very nice and service was friendly when we asked for recommendations. I tried the seafood pie which was decent in portion and taste.
N. S.
Great food and great atmosphere. A beautiful restoration of an old building.
A. X.
Came here on a Saturday night so we were put in the bar section as tables were full. I had the best oyster cocktail shooter here (pictured below), the only downside is that sitting at the bar you can't order the restaurant food and the menu is very limited.
M. G.
Really nice atmosphere and the food was very good. Not outstanding food though, and they charge like it was.
A. C.
Impeccable service and quality, tasty food and drinks. We were staying at the hotel which helped make a last minute booking for the night before our wedding dinner. On arrival, the maître d' approached me and enquired about our wedding and who was getting married. She gifted me a surprise cocktail - so thoughtful and such attention to detail. Looking forward to dining here again next time we're in Sydney.
J. T.
Good food and good service, very convenience location!
l.
Great service, very welcoming.
We ordered the special 1.5kg Rib-eye steak to share which came with sides, really good. Would say a little over cooked to what we ordered however was still great. The waiter said there would be enough sides to share however definitely wasn’t so had to order more.
Had a drink in the bar after which had a great atmosphere, was charged more for the glass of wine than stated on the menu, took a while to sort out. However would go back.
G.
Nice decor though somewhat pricey. One should go, even if only to have a drink at the bar.
A. L.
Awesome service, extremely attentive and great recommendations.. food amazing.. great evening!
J. F.
Such a cool venue. excellent service, really great food, so worth it from the ground floor entrance to the surprise on entering the 1st floor. just go there!
J. A.
Lovely decor and a great bar, I had the minute steak which was quite good and came with decent sides. Food price reasonable, drinks are pricey... $35 for an old fashioned with Makers Mark? Cmon guys...
S. R.
Great quality food! Great service! Great atmosphere
S. E.
Very nice setup. The decor is very cool and the staff very fantastic. Great selection of steak and seafood and a very good wine list to boot. I would highly recommend the cheesecake. We had some cocktails in the Gilt bar upstairs also and they were great. All round a fantastic night.
M. M.
Hard to find (access by lifts in state theatre next door) but great location, setting and food.
L. L.
Lovely bar and excellent for a drink before an event at the QT hotel.
P. G.
Our dinner last night was amazing. The food, cocktails and wine were excellent, but what made this restaurant really stand out was the friendly fantastic service. This service was led by an extremely capable manager / maître d'. It was like watching a skilled conductor leading a symphony orchestra. She was constantly surveying the room to maintain a level of excellence. She was warm, friendly and efficient with both staff and customers. Every restaurant needs a person of this standard. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but see just made our night perfect!!
C. I.
If you feel hungry after a shopping session in the neighborhood, this is the place you should head to.
The variety of bread served is awesome, great selection of wines and delicious dishes (desserts included).
The BBQ seafood platter was not disappointing but I would suggest to revise the veggies served with it (a head of Romaine lettuce, seriously?!?) and the potatoes: make them either roasted or completely mashed, not that "boiled in pieces with a lot of garlic sauce on top" which wasn't adding anything to the dish.
A. V.
Went here for a drink after the Hilton was going to charge us $35 to go to their rooftop bar (really? So outrageous!). Loved the entry to the QT hotel which was displaying a mini fashion exhibit. Bar was low lit with not too loud music and decent atmosphere. Would be keen to stay here next time to get the full experience

Ate at this delightful restaurant this evening celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. Food was excellent with substantial portions and an array of sides. The professionalism of the staff could not be faulted. When booking on-line I stated that we were celebrating our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised when our desert of chocolate profiteroles came with a hand written “happy anniversary” notation! Well done to all the staff considering how busy they were with the pre-State Theater dinner rush!!!
A. N.
Good food, great value, very decent portion sizes. One of the staff seemed a bit flustered/grumpy when we asked for additional menus multiple times. Other staff were more than helpful. There's no baby change table in the toilet and staff allowed me use of their closed off upstairs area. Child friendly place otherwise - we occupied 3 high chairs!
E. M.
Super funky space with a really good vibe. The service was casual and at times a little sloppy but I didn't mind it too much given the fairly casual feel of the place. The food was really good. we had the scallops which were lovely. I had the minute steak which was fantastic. The cocktails were good. Really liked it and will def go back for a Friday night drink and a bite to eat.
J. F.
I really enjoyed this #steakhouse. The wine was great (even the one that was horrible), the staff were my friendly and I had a great time. The food was excellent too, but the best person was the sommelier. She was a real expert, helpful and open to a conversation about the wine. Maybe this place seems a little expensive, but it's worth the money.
A.
Great service. The bar is quite nice together with the music played. Large lounge for at least 10 people. Happy days
K. S.
東西好吃,氣氛不錯,但是一定要預約不然會沒位。
Good food and atmosphere. Must book in advance otherwise unlikely will get a seat as it's ALWAYS busy.
Waitress training could be improved as the one serving us forgot to put in our side order and only notices until we almost finished the main and wonder where are the sides.
Limitation on dining time is a minus though.
Print on menu is bit small and might be hard to read in the dark, and for those with bad eyesight.
S. Z.
More about ambiance than actual experience. Serve size was small. Hip interior design. Service was alright but was expecting much more which was short delivered. Ordered the salmon myself which was cooked well cooked (medium rare). Shoestring fries were not crispy at all. Calamari fritter was good but in short supply. Good wine and bar selection available.
I. R.
Such an awesome restaurant with great food and wine.
S. M.
The venue is lovely but QT bar is in the same space as the restaurant with no walls to block out noise so the dining room gets incredibly loud. I called 3 times to confirm my reservation but nobody picked up the phone. When I told them they said their answering machine doesn't record any messages.
I arrived at 5.50pm for a 6pm table and was told to wait at the bar until 6pm, then come back to the front desk to be seated. When 6pm hit, there was suddenly a queue of people waiting for their tables and we had to go to the back of the queue while holding our drinks from the bar. A bit clunky, QT. My sirloin steak was a little tough, too. Not a terrible night but they definitely need to iron out a few creases.
C. S.
I went to Gowings for breakfast and, after eventually locating it, it was a really delightful place to eat. The decor speaks to its theatre heritage and old school New York. The only letdown was how long it took to get the attention of the staff when ordering, which took it down a shiny gold star. Otherwise, a grand and memorable place to eat.
N. G.
Gowings bar you sexy sexy broad. A quaint evening ended in a fiery sensual pit of heaven after this fantastic meal.
The steak was cooked 110% to perfection and the Paris mash was a creamy buttery mess of golden goodness which was devoured within seconds.
Leaving the dessert which can only be described as an angel s***ing down my throat, the berry mousse is the treat that I am expecting on arrival at the pearly gates.
The staff were fantastic. The food was fantastic. And that's all I can mutter as I slip into this food coma
D. M.
The place is all class. The staff were excellent with the venue looking amazing. Make sure you head to level one.
J. M.
Great atmosphere and service.
Will definitely comeback
N. C.
Beautiful venue, located on the first floor of QT it is central and easily accessible. The decor is very modern, with a nice moody lighting. Service was dilligent although sometimes lacking on the wine and water top ups. Food could only be described as exceptional (and great value for money) - it arrived speedily, all meals at the same time and still hot! All in all a wonderful experience and would recommend.
F. C.
Let's say first up, the food was very good.
However, what should have been an excellent evening was let down by, well frankly rather amateur service.
Whilst taking our order, which included fries, we were asked if we would like to switch them for sweet potato fries. After some deliberation we decided no. Normal fries please. However, when the food came, a different waitress presented us with sweet potato fries.
We explained we didn't want them and wanted normal fries. We were then told we didn't have an option. Due to a in house function, we were told the chef had used them all up. Oh, great. It would have been nice to know.
Then we ordered wine. Or tried to. Our first choice was apparently sold out, so we were upsold a different bottle. One glass in and the waitress came back and told us "well fancy that, Ive just found 3 bottles of that wine you wanted". Again, great, thanks for the information.
Maybe we came on a bad night. With stand in staff that are not that used to working in restaurants.
Gowings, at these prices you must do better.
A. K. R.
Quirky decor. Love the atmosphere and they had one of the best wine list I've seen in Sydney. Chic music that's not overly loud. Friendly bartenders and friendly wait staff. It's so nice to be able to find a bar with great drinks and atmosphere, where I can catch up with my best friends without shouting at each other.
K.
Love the atmosphere here. Food is good too, with such an extensive menu. Staff and service good too. I took my friend here for her birthday lunch and it didn't disappoint! Make sure you save room for dessert too!
r.
Easy online reservations and immediate confirmation. Dinning experience starts before you enter the building with a greeting from the door person and directions to your destination. The decor is contemporary and staff are dressed to match. Service is very customer centric. The kitchen is open plan with a large mesmerizing fire grill. The menu has something for everyone and as expected, vegan and gluten free dishes are identified. It is pricy but worth the combined experience of above average food and extensive list of beverages, attentive service and great atmosphere.
K. P.
Beautiful building, good food, ok service. This is a great place to sit at the bar for a drink. The food is good, not great. There are good options for pescatarians and a few for vegetarians. The service was a bit patchy but overall ok. The chocolate dessert was really disappointing - we're all chocolate lovers and whilst it looked great and the textures were interesting, the flavours didn't match.
K. R.
When visiting our daughter Sophie and partner Robbie in Sydney they reserved a table at Gowings for our last evening in the wonderful city. Of Sydney, what a fabulous evening we had. Two ordered steak, one John Dory, one yellow fin tuna, the food we had was delicious and of excellent quality, one criticism! the sides of French fries which were bland were not appetising and spoilt the meal, perhaps a garnish of green salad, tomato, would have been more appealing . We also ordered Paris mash as a side order which was to die for, yum! Charge for water $9 and $8 for bread I think was extortion and should have been served complimentary in particular when you are spending $150 on wine. Having said that the food, service and Gowings is fabulous!
L. J.
Love both the bar and restaurant. Staff nice and courteous, good for work drinks. Can get noisy but again a place I come back to as a staple for pre dinner drinks or a small group dinner. I just about always order the pork dish in the restaurant, crackling comes in a little cellophane bag
J. W.
Attentive service, comfortable (not cramped) and great decor; however food can be hit and miss. Steaks are great, but the other dishes we have tried lack flavour punch. Shoe string fries are amazing though!
G. B.
Firstly the restaurant is located inside the QT hotel which has a very unique and funky design, the restaurant continues that with a trendy styled look in the bar and dining area. Service was very smooth and our waitress was very helpful throughout the evening, the right amount of friendly and quick help. I started with the Oysters Kilpatrick which were nice but possibly a little over cooked, followed by the excellently cooked Wood Roasted Chicken and for dessert the Lemon/Lime/Coconut/Custard Tart. Overall a very good dinner.
J. T.
Had the black angus 320 gram steak cooked medium rare with the house red wine. The steak arrived cooked perfectly and evenly with a buttery sauce and lemon slice. It was PERFECTION, first time I ate something and didn't rush through it because I wanted to savor the dish. The steak also came with a salad that made me want to eat more, mostly did to the sauce that was on it (I'm not even sure what it was but damn it was good).
Excellent customer service and great ambience. Bit pricy but you really get what you're paying for.

Gone to Gowings.
I have been to Gowings Bar and Grill about 8 times for lunch and always a great experience, always greeted by an attractive hostess and to date, have always had great service from the staff.
The food is as good as you will get at a top restaurant, having said that I have not got passed the Snapper, it's the best I have ever eaten.
Yes, it can be a bit noisy, for me that just ads to the atmosphere.
This morning I took my two kids for breakfast and yes the brekky was great and my two teenage kids loved it, wanted to know when we can go for dinner.
I definitely would recommend it to my friends.
D. W.
Like this place - pretty good little izakaya in a mall. Once you're inside the craziness of the mall disappears, it's nicely decorated and definitely has its own atmosphere. Service is always really quick and friendly, food is fresh and tasty. Good selection of food and drinks on the menu here.
A. B.
Just OK. Service was hot and miss, easy orders (another beer) was taken and then forgotten. Acoustics really bad and food really was quite passé. I can understand why it's so popular given its right in the middle of CBD and it's a hip place to go to for the office crowd with extra jangles in their pockets.
K. D.
For my birthday my partner and I stayed at the QT Hotel, and because we purchased the QT experience package, breakfast in the Gowings restaurant was included for each morning we were there.
I must say, I was very impressed with the service and the food. The first morning I had the Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs, which were to die for! I’m not normally a truffle lover, but I absolutely loved this. My partner had the Wood Fire Grilled Farmhouse Breakfast, which he absolutely loved too.
The second morning my partner had the same thing, while I thought I’d try the Eggs Rockefeller. I definitely made the right choice, as this too was amazingly delicious. The Brioche bun was warm and soft, and on both mornings the eggs were cooked to perfection.
The price (even though we weren’t paying) for each dish was extremely reasonable, and the flat whites we ordered were made beautifully.
Thank you Gowings staff! We will definitely be dining here again =)

My partner and I used to frequent this bar often but hadn't been in a while. Finally had some time to come in on Friday night. We found the menu had mostly changed and there didn't seem to be as many options. We ordered half a dozen oysters which used to come with a variety of dressings to try but now only comes with one. My partner had the baked burrata which had a little too much vinegar in it but the cheese itself was beautiful. I had the Scotch fillet steak medium rare but it came out quite rare. Lovely steak but I probably should've sent it back as it affected the enjoyment of my meal. That's my mistake. The truffle mac and cheese is no longer a side either, absolutely devestated at this as it was a favourite of ours. Unfortunately we probably won't come back in a while as we were quite disappointed which breaks my heart as I honestly used to love this restaurant.
R. J.
Went for a quick healthy dinner. Had the bone in rib eye (medium rare) and carrots on the side.
Unfortunately the steak, whilst still delicious came out blue and the $24 dish of carrots, also delicious contained 8 small carrots: I should have gone the more abundant side of fries.
I'm certain if I'd given the feedback on the steak during the meal it would have been recooked- I didn't really have time to wait for a second steak to be prepared.
Whilst the meal was tasty I cannot say I'd recommend.
S. V. (.
Vibe is very chill with mellow music enough for you to still have a chat with your friends or for a date night. Highly recommended, the bar tenders and hostess are great to talk to, they have an amazing attitude and make you feel welcome from the minute you walk in.
A. B.
I enjoyed my birthday dinner here and in the 20 years I've now been alive, the steak I had here was the best I've EVER had. Tender, juicy, flavoursome and delicious. Despite coming here on a busy Friday night, the service was incredible. One of the best restaurants I've been to in my life.
B. C.
Great place hidden away from the crowds in the old Gowing building.
Old world charm meets modern style in this great bistro.
Food was of a really high standard, and service was relaxed yet attentive.
Very much recommends for a city lunch meeting.
S. C. (.
All in all not a terrible restaurant, but the food preparation was not worth the cost. I loved the aesthetic but would have traded that for a steak that was not horribly burned. My wife's blue eye was good and had a great garnish.
A. Z.
Highly recommend Gowings Bar & Grill. If you’re a local or a tourist definitely come here. Amazing cocktails, delicious food and a great atmosphere. The really good thing also is that before or after dinner you can go to one of their two bars they have right next to the restaurant. One of the best hidden secrets of the Sydney restaurant scene!
D. C.
Nice atmosphere, wood fired foods, nice interiors, great staff.
Some of the dishes I had were a little odd, good, but not what I would call generous and a little unbalanced.
I had the The Greek Octopus, and BBQ Seafood “New-Old School” Mixed Grill.
The octopus had a little too much olive and feta was almost as abundant as the octopus to which i have about 9 bite size pieces.
The BBQ seafood was kind of bland, the dill dressing was vibrant but not something I associate to BBQ to build the flavour of the fish. The cured bacon (a piece about 3cm long) had little flavour and didn't work with the offering as a whole in my opinion.
I've worked as a sous, and been cooking since a young age in a mama's Mediterranean kitchen, so I value my own opinion on food.
All in all, a great place for lunch, not cheap, not too dear, and ambiance in respect to service and decor is great.
h. m.
I've been a number of times as I was staying at the QT. Brekkie good but not quite with the price, dinner really not worth it. Did was ok, prices high. Wines so-so. That they can bring it to your room is the only reason to bother if you're completely knackered.
I. H.
Service was great boubon selection extensive but the restaurant menu has been cut right back with limited selection compared to how it used to be
Maybe just a hangover of covid.
J. J.
I thought Gowings had a nice setting for their restaurant, very dim lighting with nice decoration. I felt the food was just a little above average. I had the snails for entree, which did not taste flavorsome at all and also the muscle pot was a little bit much. I would've hoped for a little bit of variety, as opposed to just a whole bunch of muscles in a pot. The Muscles were cooked quite nicely though and probably would've been a better idea to order that to share.
L. M.
If you want to go somewhere for a nice date, i'd send you here. It's busy but that's to be expected because it's in a prime location, the decor is beautiful and they have a fantastic cocktail menu. I will say though in regards to the food, it is a little bit more on the pricey end of the scale.
S. C.
We visited on a Saturday night as a group of 4 to celebrate 3 birthdays.
We loved the cool vibe, for a hotel restaurant, Gowings has a distinctly un-hotelly feel. The menu is extensive with plenty of choice, especially if you like eating meat or fish. The pork belly was a highlight and 3 of us chose the minute steak which was fantastic too. Try and save some stomach space for the beignets at the end - divine! The biggest disappointment was the lack of staff - the staff that were on the floor were great, but at times there was only one service member and often none. Finding a member of staff to place an order or ask for a menu/some sauce on the side, was almost impossible and really dampened the experience especially as it was a special occasion. Delicious food and good service - if you can get it!
C. T.
You know you're in for a decadent night when you're greeted by two door people dressed in black leather trench coats and beres tilted in a jaunty slant. Catch the lift up to level 1 and go up the stairs to the bar and grill. Sitting at the bar gives you ample opportunity to study the bartenders' tattoos and the wide variety of booze on offer. I love wine served in big goblets and this place didn't disappoint. Music good but maybe a little loud.
M. K.
Great friendly staff, wide wine selection. Food on the expensive side. Sides are essential it you are hungry. Had the seared Tuna, perfection. Loved the charred brussel sprouts, and puree potatoes.
N. G.
Loved it. Great setting, fabulous starters and a perfect Manhattan. I took my wife for a birthday cocktail and a couple of starters and we both left impressed.
Do yourself a favour and try the steak tartare.
Y. L.
Not sure the high review for brunch...
A. M.
Superb location and decor, with a bar staff that doesn't want to hold you hostage for the price of drinks, makes this a great location for anyone in search of a CBD watering hole, with just a smattering of class, and a sheer excess of sex appeal.
S. A.
If you ever find yourself on Market St at say 9.30pm and you're in search of a cocktail or glass of wine, look no further than Gowings Bar in the QT hotel. You'll have to ask for directions once you get into the main lobby. On level one, you go past the desk, to the left and up the stairs. The ambiance and decor are alluring. Try the QT G&T! You won't be disappointed. If you're craving fries/hot chips, go for it. They're the thin crispy Macca's style. It gets crowded to be assertive at the bar and find a seat early.
D. T.
The staff are lovely and seem to enjoy their work. The atmosphere is nice. The food is a little pricey as the servings are rather small. A little disappointing if you're looking for a big meal. But you can at least fill up on buns.
C. F.
The bar and grill restaurant food is excellent, we tried the steak tartare (warning: very big for a starter!), the snails, the quails and beef wagyu...delicious meal. But the noise is extremely high, forget your romantic dinner for 2, your conversations will disappear in the madness of the moment.
The bar serve really good cocktails and the service here was excellent ! The bartender after taking our order, went around the room and surprised us with 2 bar stools.
If we'd go again, we'd probably pick a weeknight.
D. M.
I have never had a bad experience here. I've been many times from breakfast to lunch, to dinner and drinks and even private dining. Everytime the service has been amazing and the food really good. A good all round venue.
J. -. P. C.
We're not bar and grill people, but Gowings was a great experience. Attentive service from the funky and intimidatingly attractive staff, and lovely food. The dishes were well thought through, and quality and size was great for the price. A good addition to the city.
J. P.
I've always liked Gowings: you feel like you're in New York, it's busy and the menu's good. Sadly I discovered last night that the Steak Frites has jumped from $38 to $35 + $9 for chips. Our bread was not delivered until the steaks arrived and the chips until 5-10 minutes later. A $44 steak and chips has to be served perfectly and together. Struggling.
H. I.
Good food done well. Thanks.
M. S.
Impeccable service, friendly, professional atmosphere. Our second stay here, love the funky decor and ambient lighting. The dining is perfect if you like great food.
T. H. M.
A glamorous venue with a sophisticated yet reasonably priced menu - smack bang in the middle of Sydney. Service is slick yet friendly and the atmosphere is lux. Every time I've been I have been blown away.
J. D.
I've been for a work lunch and it was a very tasty experience. The prices are standard for a city restaurant. I had the seafood pie, which was pretty creamy and very generous with the seafood inside. It was the perfect portion size. But the BEST was the mash potato and the french fries, so make sure you get those as side dishes, plus their tomato ketchup was like a gourmet salsa. Very tasty! It was pretty busy for a midweek lunch. and I think it would also be a nice place to hit up for dinner or special celebration. With some dishes at $40 it's a bit exy, but there's enough variety on the menu for everyone to be happy. Colleagues had a morrocan tasting plate of some sort which was massice. Dessert was also tasty and there were a few varieties and quirky takes on traditional desserts.
D. K.
Had the sirloin steak . . . . In my humble opinion, the way steak should taste. Do yourself a favour and order the steak with brocolini w/ burnt butter and brussel sprouts w/ salt & vinegar. Staff were friendly and did their best the make sure our night was great.
R. A.
Special occasion dinner for 19 of us in the private room upstairs. Pre dinner drinks in our own mezzanine area overlooking dinners downstairs. Funky lounge chairs and fittings. The long dinning table was set beautifully. Our personal maitre d Toby was non stop ensuring arriving guests had a drink and more importantly kept them topped up. Our dinner and wines were selected days earlier. Entree share and main plates arrived in rapid succession by a team of waiters directed by the maitre d. Excellent service, food and ambience. Felt like the rich and famous. Hang on we are, lol. Highly recommend this venue for special celebrations with your closest family and friends.
D. B.
Get someone to take you the first time, or just Google Maps so you don’t walk up and down the street looking for the entrance. Bar is good. Restaurant is great. The staff even better.
J. Y.
A bit pricey but the quality of the food and attention of staff it is well deserved. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Great place to reward yourself after a long week
B. D.
Delicious food, great service, and an ideal location. While it is pricey, it's well worth the cost. There is a nice bar and upstairs cocktail lounge if you're just looking for something a bit simpler.
J. W.
We went for Christmas lunch - the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and attentive, the room was beautiful, and the prices were very reasonable when you consider what you get. Highly recommended.
M. C.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was superb - great serving sizes and full of flavour. The staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is lively - very New York! Will be back.
M. L.
Excellent mains, let down by a poor dessert. A unique dining experience with a varied menu. Good prices and a extensive wine menu. I would return again, but will skip the dessert next time.
E. s.
Ok, so I am no gourmet. My wife would give it 4.5.The bar is great... The grill not so. I had no trouble paying $19 for a pimms as there was significant work, time and vegetables involved. But $16 for a gin and tonic and them be asked to tip, when casual bar staff earn over the average wage is a bit of a stretch. The restaurant is staffed almost solely with non English speaking folks. Wouldn't visitors to Sydney like to meet at least one local. I often couldn't understand their accents. I am no xenophobe and proudly grew up in Lakemba. It may be normal to serve raw tuna but I only usually have it in sushi. I could taste nothing except salt from the frowning of unusually salty soy sauce. It was like eating Vegemite. I couldn't cut my mushroom. The folks at an adjoining table had the lamb tomahawk and nearly wore it on their clothes trying to cut it. It was a huge lump of fat ant bone with a wee piece of meat at the end. The lights above the table were like those on warming shelves and made me hot and squinty. I felt like an interviewee in a 1930s movie
S. W.
Really smart place to eat and drink. A little hard to find at first, but it's actually above Topshop/Topman and you have to go through the QT hotel reception and up the lift on your left to get to it. The fillet steak was perfect and the service was excellent.
K. S.
it's a nice place nice view nice food menus a bit restricted there could be more there wasn't 100% have you got the service they close the kitchen without telling us they limited some of the choices we had afterwards starts friendly though would I go back probably
N. A.
lots of foreign staff provides cosmopolitan atmosphere. Upbeat music puts you in right mood. Food expensive 25% more than expected for venue but food is eell made and presented
V. D.
This place is very ritzy and atmospheric, just a recommendation: always book a table before arriving because you can be kicked out of this place for staying for too long, they gave me a time frame on how long i could stay amd have my dinner. Depending on what you order, the food here can be quite tasty and amazing, i loved my experience here and i would come back
B. D.
Claudia, who looked after us, was MAZING, ambience and decor also top notch. Definitely recommend. 6 Stars
D. P.
This is a strange place with a strange crowd. It is a hotel bar, after all. But don't let that put you off, the bar staff know their stuff and will make you a great drink. Just try not to sit facing the TV's with their very odd news tickers.
J. B.
Food was amazing. We had lobsters, oysters, tuna tartare, crab cake and side dishes plus deserts, all yummy!
Atmosphere amazing
Cocktails amazing
R. M.
Fantastic spot in the city for a drink. Right outside the QVB (next to Town Hall station). To access the Gowlings Bar go into QT hotel (next to the state theatre) and take the lift to Level 1 then as you step out walk past reception (take the short flight of stairs up and turn right and there will be a reservations desk for the Gowlings restaurant. For the bar you don't need a reservation you can walk straight in as we did - was fairly free around 7pm on Saturday night). There is table service available if required and the staff can be accommodating with split bills.
Overall a good spot for a drink before going for dinner elsewhere as Gowling's food range is quite pricey
W. L.
This place is a fancy grill restaurant with a bar alongside it. We ordered Hot Spanner Crab Cakes, The French “Seafood” Algerian Connection wth 3 kinds of cous cous, Wood Roasted Free Range Pork Belly, and My Mothers Parmesan Crumbed Veal Schnitzel. The food and service would warrant a 5 star rating, if the music at the bar would have been lower. If you want a quiet dinner or one which you do not have to raise your voice to talk to your friends, this is not the place to go. However, if you are looking for a place with good and fun vibe, I'd recommend this place for its food!
c. a.
Food, service always outstanding. Never been disappointed. Wine & food always great quality, always delicious lunch or dinner. Love it
C. L.
Fabulous bar/restaurant. It can be a little loud in peak times but the staff are amazing, food is slightly shy of excellent and the cocktails are good.
D. R.
Great bar! We came for drinks and the bartenders were amazing! We will definitely be back the staff just made the place!
R. C.
Some good cocktails and the burger isnt too bad
T. F.
Better than last time, great service as always, happy with the new menu! Thank god the previous chef didn’t last too long. Great food is back!
A. D.
More show than substance. Very Sydney in style and a Melbourne want a be restaurant. Steak was average, service was average and wine list was average... Hence the three stars.
J. K.
Great atmosphere, great service and great cocktails.
R. G.
Very very enjoyable, food was fantastic but a bit pricey
B. M.
Awesome bar in a very chilled out location right in the heart of the city. Staff are great and the food and beverage selection is top notch.
D. J.
What a hidden gem. If you are in the city and want a well mixed drink, cocktail or wine, this is a great spot. There are bar snacks and if you are keen a full dinning experience.
B. H.
A fab spot, all tucked away in the old Gowings Building. Lovely food & great service from faultless & friendly staff. Remember to book online as it's busy. Great venue!!
E. M. W.
Chic and beautiful space smack bang in the middle of the city. Food is elegant and targets an up market clientele without appearing pretentious, and the prices are reflective of this. Nice place to drop by for a drink or classy meal before hitting the town.
R. J.
The did is cooked well and service is good. The variety / choice on the menu could be more extensive. So e selection is good.
G. M.
Sensational, Staff 10/10, Food 10/10, Want to impress someone take them to Gowing's Bar & Grill, look just use any excuse to go here at least once.
Thanks for a great Steak and service.
E. P.
Sadly the change of menu and ambience has disadvantaged this once wonderful restaurant. Once I rated as a 5 now it's average - for me at least the changes are a no. Food average at best.
L. B.
Great vibe and setup, the staff were overly attentive and always making eye contact to see if I needed anything. Steak was great also - awesome end to end experience.
S. B.
The food was amazing , my tastebuds went through a whole new experience , was well worth the $$ and i had the tuna , the oysters Kilpatrick was the best oysters I've ever had . , looking forward to the desert
S.
Great venue for a quiet G&T away from the rat race downstairs.
Brilliantly decorated with okebyu or seating options for one or many guests.
N. C.
Amazing in every way. The environment, service, wine, and steak are all top notch. The price tag does match the quality though.
W. J.
Solid. Fun, but noisy. My fish (blue eye cod) was excellent, the brussel sprouts fine.
D. P.
Great food, great service
N. T.
Great vibe and atmosphere. Good wine selection. The food has varied in quality on each visit.
S. K.
Good vibe and atmosphere, seafood pie (the French one) a bit salty, prices about 10% higher than it could be and I hit my head on a low hanging lamp whilst getting up (2 ppl side seating) and I'm short.
E. M.
Good service but average mid- Sydney pricing
S. G.
Breakfast menu is a good one. The superfood omelette (fancy name) is delicious. It is a bit rich asking $6 for a slice of toast however.
a.
Amazing atmosphere, and warm and friendly staff. Food is amazing and their selection of wines is fantastic 👌🏼
J. J.
Great food if a bit crowded and not cheap but worth the money. Great service but like so many places these days conversation can be hard
D. R.
Easy to miss from the street. But your first visit wont be your last. Fine food. Great cocktails and a brilliant atmosphere.
L. B.
I have ordered beef short ribs and it was absolutely delicious. Staff was very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place.
F. M.
Delicious food. Fabulous service. Touch pricier than average but worth it. Atmosphere superb!
I. K.
Great tasting food and atmosphere. Hard to hear for your waiters sometimes. I.e forgot my wine
M. B.
Good place for a business lunch over a nice steak. Nice bar area also, with a lounge on the upper floor.
M. S.
Mixed here. Food 100%. Will come back because of that.
Service, spilt water on me whilst pouring, watch the bar staff pour wine back into a bottle because they poured to many.
M. M.
Brilliant open bar with excellent selection of wine.
Highly recommend for work of casual drinks.
A. B.
Trendy place to eat. This is a hidden gem. I frequented the area over the years but never knew there is hotel and good fancy restaurant inside this old Gowings building.
C. W.
A cool bar that feels a little too hipster for my taste. Too, I left feeling hoarse as it's very noisy. That said, it's the place to be if you want to see and be seen.
L. d. M.
not cheap but if someone else is paying the steaks are superb. large wine list and attentive service.
L. O.
Great vibe, was surprised at how busy it was for a Thursday, however once we tasted the food we understood. So tasty and worth the money
M. B.
Great atmosphere, great staff, yummy food. A bit pricey though.
M. A.
Good food, good cocktails, good service. Great place for a smart, yet casual dinner.
L. D.
The best steak I have EVER tasted (t bone). Reasonably priced, great service.
D. G.
Loved the steak, sauteed mushrooms and mac n cheese. Feels like a NY place with its own market place. Busy place even during week nights.
N. C.
Very nice decor, service and food. However selection is quite limited. Expensive but decent serves and expected quality.
O. R.
Awesome atmosphere and delicious food which is professionally served. Would recommend for business dinners.
C. C. T.
I ordered the Black Angus Steak, Oysters, and Sea Urchin. It was great I loved the atmosphere and vibe and service was top notch.
A. T.
Pretty smicko bar. Great decor and atmosphere. You pay for it on drink though so if you ok with that very much worth the visit.
R. B.
Great bar, friendly staff and service
A. B.
It was three years ago and still one of the most memorable meals I've had. Stellar service.
A. S.
Great food - very edgy. The staff are well trained and attentive. Listen to the Sommeliers suggestions.
m. c.
Went for a function meal. Good atmosphere, great food and fantastic service. A wonderful night.
M. P.
Great food, sensational service and a great selection of wines and beers. Fantastic experience.
H. O.
Start off with crab cakes then work your way to a black angus rib eye medium rare! Steak quality is on par with that of Rockpool Bar & Grill!
b.
The entrance isn't easy/obvious to find. You need to go into the State theatre and then up the lift. Once you're there, it's fabulous!
C. B.
Excellent meat and nice interior too. Service was fantastic. Beer list could be improved!
J. A.
Awesome place to dine with friends, quality of food has improved dramatically, service is knowledgeable and engaging, easily best grill room in Sydney
A. A.
Great place, great food, great vibe.
P. H.
Nice aesthetic and decor, great service but the menu could perhaps use a little more variety.
T.
The was food ok, wasn't super excited by the options. I was with a group and they charged all good too my room.
V. H.
Beautiful food and service
K. T.
Good for a drink after shopping in town. A pity about the TV screens on the walls takes away from the atmosphere.
P. E.
Amazing meal. Steaks are absolutely beautiful.
It is an expensive meal, but quality is too notch. Loved it.
