Comments of Ichi-ban Boshi

Food is delicious. Quick service. Very busy on Saturday noon. Waited for 10 minutes to get seated. It was a hot day and was a bit uncomfortably warm inside.
A. C.
It was busy this boxing day but, worth the wait.
Crispy chicken tonkatsu.
Flavourful soup.
Perfectly cooked rice.
Takoyaki is my favourite. 😋
V. K. (.
Haven't been here for many years. I had chicken karaage curry rice with cheese. I had the chicken karaage at few restaurants recent, none of them was good except here. The chicken is crispy still tender inside and juicy. I was worried the chicken may not be nice as here specialise in ramen. Yummmm
Very big serve
E. D.
It was good ramen, but the fried gyoza a bit no for me, it taste like it was fried in very old used oil, the staff was attending and very nice too❤️
R. T.
Very popular place with mostly Asian customers. Good ramen with flavoursome stock you could ask for less salt when you order which is great. Quick service. Covid safe too. Good portions. My noodle bowl was a bit chipped! Well located. Would come back.
C. ..
Pretty good ramen, good service. Not as memorable as I remember as a teen but maybe it's just nostalgia.

Came here on a Saturday night. It was relatively busy and needed to wait a little to get a seat - so make sure you come early or make a reservation (if they do them).
The place was quite nice and, like many Japanese places these days, you use an iPad to order. The food was pretty affordable and good. The takoyaki was very nice!! I really enjoyed it. The prawn katsu was also very tasty but there was a LOT of rice, compared to the rest of the food. We also got some sort of fried sushi which was nice but slightly spicy (it said on the menu, but I didn’t think it would be very spicy hahah).
Overall, service was pretty quick and food was good. I’d come back here for a bite if I’m around the area, but wouldn’t go out of my way to come back !
B. M.
It’s located in the basement of The Galleries.
Food is just about average and not really great when compared with other options one has for Japanese food around the area.
Service is a little slow but could be acceptable considering they are generally quite busy.
I wouldn’t say the staff is rude but the staff is not really friendly either.
Have tried this place twice and wouldn’t be going back.

This Ramen place is located in Sydney CBD and inside a Mall building so you will not expect a quiet ambiance. Everytime I go here there's a long queue, for me it's given when the food is really good and value for money. So I know the drill here, I will go get a number and wait for my turn depending how long is my waiting time. I will simply walk around first or patiently wait outside amongst others. And when you get to sit, you are sometimes sitting amongst other people you don't know. So tight and it's kinda annoying. So when the COVID restriction happen, they re-open and allowed only 10 people inside. I was so happy that I will eat there for the first time with so much space around me and very quiet. I went there with my partner. For us, it's perfect fix for the cold winter weather. What else to order but my favourite Ramen and Takoyaki. It always taste the same and nice. It is not the superlative goodness degree of ramen like what others would look for in a fine dining. This is just perfect for your Ramen fix and other Japanese food. Don't expect more when you go here. And for the staff it's a hit and miss, some are good and some are not.

High quality and very tasty Ramen, nice decor and the service is great. Just order on the tablet an doubt it comes. Big range as well.

A nice hidden top level Japanese restaurant that is cute and cozy and fits well into the theme. The staff here are lovely and welcoming, greeting and farewelling us in Japanese. We were seated quickly despite a practically full house at the time we went, and the food came probably about 15 minutes after placing the order. All orders were placed on the tablets as far as I know, as we were seated on a large table with pull out tablets.
I had the karaage ramen, takoyaki, and a bit of the melon soda. My partner had a karaage don, takowasabi, and most of the melon drink. The karaage ramen came first as I placed it as soon as I saw it. I was really hungry and I knew what I was gang for. It was actually very nice and tasty, and a surprise too as I’m usually not a big fan of soy sauce broths. It came with 3 karaage chicken pieces, which were fairly sizeable, though I would always want more. The portion in general was larger than I thought as well, and I can confidently say it filled me up. However, I think I downed the food so quickly that I still felt hungry, because I was still keen to eat more. It was very very tasty though. The takoyaki was alright, it was approaching coldness from lukewarm by the time it arrived, but it still tasted as what you would expect. The melon soda was refreshingly tasty too, although, half the glass is actually ice and the glass itself is already quite slim, so I feel like it is quite a rip off. It’s still super tasty though!
My partners karaage don was ok, the karaage was delicious as expected, but the rice tasted quite odd. It tasted a lot like vinegar, and appears that they may have over seasoned it. She still had most of it though, but it could have been better if it was just plain rice. Miso soup was nice, just the standard expected miso soup IMO. The tako wasabi was good with a generous serving, but the taste wasn’t all there. It was mainly a chilli like flavour and was somewhat bland.
Overall a pretty decent place with fairly priced mains, and I would definitely come here again.

Ichiban Boshi has some delicious ramen so that you’re guaranteed to be satisfied whenever you visit. However definitely do try dishes such as donburi rice bowls, curries and all sorts of Japanese delights!
I’ve had their signature ramen (max ~20 a day) and Very Hot ramen, both are solid choices for various reasons. In this occasion, I went for something different called Very Hot Cheese Ramen and for those wondering, cheese absolutely works in ramen! It mellows down the level of spicy but adds a satisfying element to each gulp of noodles and soup.
Personally I love the Iced Matcha Cappuccino and I always get it every time I’m here. It comes with a jar for sugar liquid to adjust sweetness to your liking.
C.
One of the noodle shop I would go once a while to get quick meal.
It was newly renovated not long ago and honestly it looks better and tidier than before.
Food wise still the same like before and it is very consistent.
Missus loves their Very Hot Ramen a lot. The best way to eat it is to top up with cheese.
Soup is nice and flavoured with good taste of thick pork and chicken.
I like their chashu but too bad it’s quite thin. Would be nice if it’s thicker.
Y.
My go-to when I'm alone in the city and want to treat myself. It's quick service, convenient (you self-order via the tablet/pull out tablet from the drawer at the long tables), tasty and decent portions!
Love the green tea ice cream, udon, zaru soba, tempura, taoyaki, Tokyo ramen (abit strong in flavour for my liking) but delicious! Recommended. Never had a bad experience, so I have alot of trust and admiration for this place :)
S.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in the CBD. The place it’s always busy so during lunch time there might be a wait. The staff always greed you in Japanese upon arrival which makes it so sweet, it made feel like I was in japan again! The menu is simple and not too “busy” and you get great value for the price you pay. Don’t miss the yakisoba omelette, I haven’t found this dish anywhere else in Sydney! Make sure you carry cash because they don’t accept cards!
l. h.
Again, I'm drawn to the lightly fried tofu with crispy bean shoots and tasty chewy bamboo shoots. The hand cut Ramen in the slightly salty sesame broth is a little hug on this cold morning. It's always busy although the service is calm and food arrives quickly and is piping hot.
Y. L.
My friend recommended this restaurant to me. The first time I tried the noodles were really good. But the second I came to the shop, the soup is salty. A little bit disappointed. But generally it is a good place and at lunch time is so busy. I hope they can keep the food quality more stable and good as before.
D. B.
I love their ramen. Really yum and in a huge portion. This restaurant always busy at dinner time. Sometimes u need to be on the waitlist but dont worry the wait is always worth❤️
Food : 9/10
Place : 8/10
Service : 9/10
M.
Best Ramen I’ve had in Sydney! My husband isn’t a big fan of noodles and he finished two noodle dishes here, ramen and yakisoba, staff were good too!
J. L.
They only make 30 bowls of the tonkotsu ramen and 20 bowls of the shoyu tonkotsu ramen. I got the shoyu tonkotsu ramen. Noodles were perfect thin straight and perfectly done. the broth was i can say amazing it was packed with umami and porky flavor the texture and consistency was spot on, the shoyu flavor was not over powering the whole bowl, you can really taste the toasted sesame seeds and a hint of roasted garlic flavour. Another good thing was i dont need to order extra noodles for $2.5 just get the $1 extra for a large one.... i can say one of the best bowls of ramen in town. Only shame was got only a slice of a perfect chasiu which was a good ratio of lean meat and fat, and egg was just half and stone cold, and menma was missing. Ill just order extra chasiu on my next visit. still one of the great bowls in town. 5🌟
L. d. S.
Delicious Ramen, only downside is the quantity of meat added to the ramen. I ordered the chicken ramen and got one small piece. Plenty of noodles and broth but almost no meat.
M. S. (.
The food is nice and appealing.
We had to wait a little while for the table, but this is a positive vote by customers of how much they enjoy the restaurant.
The tables are quite cramped if you're seated at the larger shared tables.
The iPad ordering system hidden in the drawer of the big share table was not apparent to me at first, but I found it to be nifty and very easy to use once I realised it was there.
l. j.
Go here almost every time I go to the city. The rice bowls are always delicious along side the ramen and udon. Ordering on the Ipads is fun and efficient.
F. K.
Very busy, at least 15 min wait after leaving your name and number. Ipad ordering system feels a bit factory style. Generous servings for the price but food was average. Egg for the don didn’t soak through the rice and there was just too much rice for the number of prawns you get. The bathroom entrance is next to where dishes are brought out from kitchen so its a bit chaotic at peak meal times. Good place for quick bite to eat.
D. P.
One of our favourite Ramen noodles in eastern suburbs.
Even though we moved far to Northwest area, we still comes to here for Ichiban Boshi Ramen at Bondi junction
Very recommend, authentic Japanese Ramen must come and try yourself.
Totemo oishii kata, domo Arigatou Gozaimasu
R.
A funky, cheap but high quality restaurant that has great decorations and attentive staff.
Ramen is around $12.90 which is one of the best prices in the city.
A. H.
Reasonable price and TanTan Ramen 🍜 a bit salty.
L. S.
Food is beautifully presented and tasty! Service is also organized, friendly and efficient. A favorite when we are in the Galleries.
R. P.
The place so convenient, food in a very good portion and not too expensive, the taste?? Every single food i've tried never dissapoint me, although i only have 1 pic, because i never took pic anymore, everytime the food come i couldn't wait to eat them
B. L.
Competent ramen focused Japanese eatery that is ultra efficient. The restaurant was recently renovated and now every table has a built-in mobile device for ordering that allows the dining experience to progress even faster.
T. D.
Third time I have been here and the quality is always consistent. The food is decently priced, generous servings and delicious but not spectacular
C. P.
My favourite spot in Sydney for a good Ramen.
v. m.
One of the rare location that you can find PORK TONKATSU. The ramen is tasty anr chewy, no MSG. The price is a bit cheaper than other japanese restaurant compared with the food quality. At night it is quite crowded. They let you order through the tablet underneath the table. They number each chair so you may sit opposite a stranger on the same table. The only disappointing is I can never try the signature ramen which is only made 20 bowls per day. Will definitely go again. Highly recommended.
P. G.
Better than average, but maybe not worth a long wait
B. D. T.
This is my go to for ramen and japanese cusine in Sydney. The Tonkotsu Ramen is tasty AF and they only make 30 bowls per day. Other must try dishes are the Tsukemen, gyoza and the Karage chicken is amazeballs.
m. b. (.
The ramen is standard . Its basic ramen about 15 a bowl.
Its not the best but its ok for some quick eats
S. F. L.
The cooler weather calls for warm bowls of ramen soup noodles! I have heard good things about this place and there is always a line.
They have a very efficient tablet online ordering system and an extensive menu with photos of all the dishes.
I ordered the miso ramen (they had run out of the tonkatsu broth for the day - it was Sunday evening). The broth was tasty, and noodles were chewy. I liked the corn addition and I request an egg. They were a bit light on the meat, only two slices with a regular serve.
I would be keen to come back to try other dishes from the menu.
P. H. (.
Not much to say really, just a Japanese fast food chain restaurant. It's busy, but food got served pretty quickly. Nothing fancy about the food, but it's quite affordable. If you are sick of burgers and chips and want to pretend to eat healthy, it's probably a good place to grab a bite. Disgusting toilet btw...
J.
I always know I’m going to be satisfied after having ramen here. This time I added 2 x fried dumplings to my noodles and it was the best decision ever!! Just drooling thinking about this..
Update: my fav dish here atm is the wagyu shabu shabu rice dish.
b. b.
I've eaten here many times if you want a quick cheap ramen (they sell other things too but their ramen is the cheapest) and the taste is just as good as how cheap it is. Shio or miso ramen would be $8 where at any other place ramen would be a $12-17 average in the city. The chashu-men is tasty, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the chashu, a but weak in taste but everything else was nice.
J. Z.
Food was tasty. There are a few vegetarian options. Service is polite. I could not identify a signature dish. I would recommend it.
W. K.
Great taste and serivce. During the dinner time I went, there was a long line of people waiting but it was worth the wait. For good authentic Japanese ramen, I would recommend this place.
S. Z.
Had the spicy tan tan tzukemen (dipping noodles) for lunch, I waited about 10min for a table but I was alone. The service was good, ordering on the iPad and safety screens available so it was covid friendly.
The noodles were well cooked, broth was a bit too sour for my taste however still tasted good, just not super amazin
C. H.
Excellent restaurant. Amazing service from staff members. IPads makes ordering easy and convenient. Food came out quickly and tasted delicious. Broth for the ramen is top notch. Noodles were fresh. Meat was soft and yummy. Everything was great.
P. L. G.
It is as expected from such a Japanese fast food counter shop. Service was fast and polite. Pretty normal prices for the area.
Lots of tasty, nicely cooked beef on my
Gyu-Don and tasty sauce through the rice.
Lacking extra condiment choices.
Located downstairs in the Galeries food hall between George and Pitt streets.
Would come back again 😉👍🏽
S.
Ordered from iPad, service is efficient and food is decent (nothing out of the ordinary). A bit confused about the salad which was mostly raw cabbage with two lettuce leaves on top lol. Would recommend if you like casual japanese, but a little more pricey for what you get around $15-$20 per dish.
K. S.
My old time favourite ramen place. Sorry I normally show pics of the food, but it was my usual Chasu-men so i forgot to take a pic before eating. So here's a pic of the aftermath 😁. Not a strand of noodle left. Perfect chew for ramen.
k.
Good service, delicious food. Definitely worth the wait in line. This place is always busy. My chilli beef ramen had good broth (soup) but the beef was a extremely overcooked and salty.
Ramen noodles was delicious but the hand made buckwheat noodles was a little disappointing. The pork and charsui was to die for. Salmon was fresh and rice was prefectly cooked.
Would highly recommended this place if you don't mind the wait (it's worth it)
L.
We ordered tonkatsu and very hot rame. Reason why sharing with halfway portion is because want to show that pretty hard to eat with the cabbage in the middle for the tonkatsu. And for the ramen its only have 1 slice of meat, not proportional with the price!
A. D. L.
This place is the go to after uni or for a lunch break in between work. It has a generous amount of food in each dish and is well priced as well. I love their cold green tea was really nice and I always love to order their Yakisoba Omellette! It's also conveniently located in Townhall near the station as well.
L. D.
Fast efficient service. Come here weekly for a quick ramen during lunch and it has been consistent in quality for the past 7 years that I’ve come here.
V. N.
My favourite place for Udon and salmon rice bowl! Also must try their matcha drink here! I’m not a huge ramen fan but I know it’s good here too! The prices here are really reasonable too.

Ichi-ban Boshi represents Japanese cuisine in a positive light. The ramen is authentic and delicious; with the gyoza (that my friend and I had) seasoned and cooked beautifully. The atmosphere of this place is also presentable, reflecting traditional Japanese architecture. The staff are very friendly, and attended to my friend and I efficiently during the rush hour which gave me a very good first impression. The prices are amazing, considering this is placed in the heart of the Sydney CBD and the quality of the ramen you are receiving is top notch. The Ipad system for ordering is also very efficient, keeping up with modern technology. Through this system, you are able to order at your own discretion, and not wait for a waiter to attend to you. The speed from order to delivering food is very fast, good for a quick meal; reflective of Japanese ramen shops for fast eating, good food, and a meal that fills you up. The menu is alright in term of design, and it definitely requires a makeover in terms of the layout as it seems very old, with the quality of the photos being mediocre. However, that is just nitpicking, and the food is the main importance with any restaurant. My verdict? Delicious. Efficient. Amazing food.

Came back again today Saturday 5 December 20.
Absolutely delicious !!!
28 December 2020
Beautiful, delicious lunch again.
S. L.
2 stars for service and 4 stars for food. That gives a 3 stars average.
Come on Ichi-ban Boshi. Don’t loose your Ichi-ban. Don’t loose your Japanese identity, and that means customer service and politeness.
The ramen are good but the service are marginally acceptable for Australian standards. And for Japanese standards, it is bad.
Some staffs have totally no energy and interactions. They don’t seem like to work and they do show their unwillingness face in front of customers. That is a big NO NO in a Japanese company.
C. M.
Pretty nice food with cool pop out digital ordering screens. I had the Karaage chicken ramen and it was really good! The soup was maybe a bit too salty though.
h.
Quite enjoyable. Food was not bad. Generous serving for the price. Water was self service. Note that you have to order via an iPad, some people aren’t into that sort of thing.
Very hidden away toilet location. Had to ask.
E. Q.
Ichi-ban Boshi holds a place dear to my heart as one of the first places I ever tried ramen, over 12 years ago. The ramen still tastes the same as when I first tried it and service, while not the greatest, is fast and efficient. The noodles here are different to Ippudo, located in the Westfield food court up the road, and but oh so delicious.
Be sure to get in early as the lines can get long during peak hours, but the good thing is you can grab a number and head over to Black Star Pastry or Kinokuniya to browse while you wait ;)
f. t.
They ran out of the tonkatsu ramen so i ordered karage ramen nice rich broth. My friend ordered the extra spicy ramen which was rather dissappointing it tasted like they just kept adding chilli powder to the broth, it tasted very grainy. We also ordered gyoza which taste quite nice but i didnt like the fact that they were already soaking in the vinegar.
W. N.
Updated - 05/10 - the interior looks nicer than before but I feel the quality has dropped compared to before. It felt more commercialised rather than pursuing for quality. Lots of fancy new choices available on a electronic tablet menu. But ramen is a bit average now, and I felt rushed when being seated (I.e COVID tracing sigh in and seating arrangements)
Past:
I used to go there a lot for their tan tan men and tonkotsu ramen (which has limited serve each day). Pretty neutral with other of their ramen choices. Price is around $15-20 pp. It's more of a casual lunch-time canteen where you wait for your number being called out, get seated and served, order and eat your ramen then leave.
Service is speedy and friendly but cannot expect much from the casual setting as mentioned above.
G. H.
Love the chicken sesame tan tan ramen. The soup is so rich with sesame seed which gives its extra flavour. Very flavourful and tasty ramen.
A. A.
The ramen is fantastic, particularly the Tonkotsu Ramen.
e.
The shoyu tonkonstu broth is amazing, it is creamy and has some saltiness in it. You can adjust how much sugar you want in the lemon tea. And the online menu technology is a great touch
J.
Tonkotsu ramen sells out often. About 90% of the time it was perfect. Last time it was a bit salty... First timers: get a ticket and write your name on the sheet. Usually worth the wait.
D. P.
I have been to a few ramen spots but this is now my go to spot. Very nice ramen and the noodles are really tasty too.
C. M.
Great food and amazing place to visit when you want to eat good ramen! Gyoza and ramen flavours could be improved but it was delicious!
G. L.
Average ramen. Very crowded and There's always a long queue during lunch time.
Cheap eats. Suitable for a quick meal.
D. L.
The best Japanese dishes in Sydney but the staff can be more friendly and helpful.
P. C.
This ramen place is the bomb! Well priced, the food is awesome. Try the tan tan men or the aburi chashu men, two of my favourite Ramen. First come, first served, you might have to wait 20min during peak hours. Totally worth the wait. And the Agadeshi tofu stater is so good and I am a meat lover ;)
堀.
They are nice staff :)
I love foods and staff !!
Especially he is Japanese he is always polite and smile with us :)
Thank you :)
D. R.
Come here for reliable and tasty ramen and karaage chicken at reasonable prices.
Another gem, this one from over two decades ago! Started as a small shop at Bondi Junction, at some point at the Strand arcade and now after many years opposite the Kinokuniya (book shop) entrance, they've renovated to seat even more people and churn customers out even quicker with iPads under the table to make your order with. Will give five stars if they bring water to me instead of expecting me to self-serve. It's not like they've left a lot of room for us to walk around in the restaurant. Favourite go-tos: Shio-butter corn ramen, karaage chicken set, gyoza, ice lemon tea (they make this in store /not from a can). Despite the water situation I suspect I'll be carrying on being a loyal customer of 20+ years
Note: a) Expect a wait. There's never a time where there isn't a wait to get seated
b) Definitely a fast- food, eat your meal fast and go feel, not romantic, high-end fine dining feel
K. S.
Good quality and value for your money. Ordered Hot Ramen and was pleasantly surprised that the taste was on point. Not salty and no after taste. Will definitely go back here.
J. H.
Food was meh, and pretty pricey for that
G. E.
Ordered tonkotsu ramen with extra noodle and seaweed. Soup is average, lacks flavor and depth compared to other 4+ star ramen restaurant around sydney. Same goes with the noodle quality, average at best. They also only give 1 thin charsiu slice. Not really worth the price for me. 3 star
J. L.
We tried the Ramin here. Super delicious. Very efficient friendly service. Extremely enjoyable
N. B.
I have been coming to Ichi-ban Boshi for 14yrs now. And I hope to keep coming back for the next 14 haha. Its the most amazing Ramen.
W. 1.
Reasonably priced, decent place for ramen nearby to Westfield city
D. K.
Local Japanese noodle place that's bit of an institution.
gets busy around 12:15pm for lunch.
great value and a quick meal.
L. B.
Good Japanese food, reasonably authentic and large serves. Considering its in the CBD, prices pretty reasonable too. Friendly and quick service. Recommended for a nice lunch on a working day.
H. L.
Very authentic ramen and juicy fragrant deep fried pork chops. But the portion can be bigger 😂
B. P.
Pretty decent ramen with very generous serving. Bustling with customers but I got served pretty quickly.
F. W.
I’ve been here few times. I always love their Tantan ramen or wagyu set. I tried the Miso Ramen and add Tantan pork mince, but I guess it’s better for me to order mu fave again. Overall they always serve the food fast and good service. I also love their Melon Soda!
S. K.
Amazing ramen. Quick service. Usually queues during peak hours but worth the wait.
Y. M.
Great ramen and very reasonably priced! Does get a little busy in the evenings and weekends but definitely worth the wait!
O. B. Q.
Nice place, very good food. Clean and friendly place, the staff is really good and polite. I'll come back.
c. s.
First time here and really enjoyed the flavours of the chicken ramen.
5. L.
Ramen is delicious, tofu is very delicious, fried chicken is a bit disappointing
R. R.
really good food, i really enjoyed their omulette rice but it hasn't been on the menu recently which is sad. the only read downside is that you can't split the bill which means friends have to pay via cash.
you also don't have to wait long for your food to arrive.
A. D.
This is greatest place I've ever had ramen in the country! I used to eat at the one in Queensland once a week for a decade. I'm now planning on making the trip down to Sydney for the same meal. The broth is excellent, the noodles are well made, the service is fantastic and well worth the price

Yummy noodle soup! Hot and sour soup with minced pork and shallots.
R. G.
The food was very good, but the service was quite slow.
T. S.
An authentic Japanese restaurant with delicious ramen and rice bowl dishes. Highly reccommend the Karaage Don. Service is friendly.

Had here an year back, forgot the item name and the taste was good. Recommended.

My absolute favourite place in the city to eat. Service is quick. Get there before 12:30pm to beat the lunch rush. Kids love it as well. We go every time we are in the city
j. v.
Great tasting ramen, it would take around 5 mins to be seated. Price to taste is exceptional.

Shared a few dishes, tsukemen was excellent, Karaage chicken had a great portion. No issues with getting a container to take home leftovers.
V. N.
I love this place. There's a good reason there's always a long line during lunchtimes. The food is authentic and the service is decent. The renovations give the restaurant a more modern look and now that you can order on iPads, it's so convenient! There's a photo for every dish so that you know exactly what you're ordering. This place is my go-to when I'm not sure what I'm feeling for lunch.
T. S.
Yummy n 11.90 for standard tokyo ramen
O. D.
Udon is yummy but takoyaki is quite soft, not as crunchy as I expected.
K. S.
Excellent ramen, gyoza is also very good.
T. C.
The ramens are amazing, it’s my favourite place to go. The staff is very nice. Sometimes there is a queue to enter but normally is fast to get a table
D. F.
Fast service, efficient staff, good food to enjoy with you friends. I got a gyūdon (bowl of rice topped with beef) with miso soup, the beef was delicious.
G. M.
Best authentic Japanese in Sydney 🌸
Superior Karaage and fantastic Tsukemen! 🍗
Great pricing, kind staff, fast service - you can see why there is a waiting line - have been coming here for years! ✨ ~Highly recommend!~ ✨
B. M.
Easy and fast ramen restaurant for a cheap meal. I have been coming here for years and have enjoyed it. There is usually a long wait for a table during peak meal times so I often visit at odd times. Last a came was over a year ago and they've had a renovation and menu ordering now on ipad. I was a bit disappointed because the ipads were very dirty. The ramen noodle also tasted different to what I remember. Still though, I would come again. It's just not as good as I remembered it used to being.
B. S.
Very nice food in an authentic setting. Recommended
T.
Went earlier in the night on a Friday and immediately got a table near the rear of the restaurant. The atmosphere was authentic as well as the food. I got the Tokyo Set and it was exactly as it should be. The Umami exploded from the dish. This place could easily compete with all the restaurants I have been to in Japan. By far my most memorable moment outside of Japan.
J. P.
Ichiban Boshi has been around for many years. Conveniently located next to Kinokuniya Book Store, they provide great range of Ramen and rice dishes. Given the current pandemic, all staff are wearing masks and each table is partitioned to minimise risk of infection.
L. A.
Food was really good. 8 out of 10
A. C.
not bad for ramen, price quite affordable but not the biggest serving. rice bowl pretty okay too. enjoyable overall.
M.
Have been in twice with a friend who raves about this place but I just don’t rate it. I had the chashu-men ramen and the spicy noodles. The broth is just ok and the meat is barely tender. The gyoza was bad and tasted fishy. Service is very quick and friendly though.
C.
I love the electronic ordering system it provides for a quick service and therefore avoids waiters going around the dining area. However, you could provide how the meals are to be served. For an example, when I like Katsu Juu, I like it separate rather than combined with the soup and the egg. Usually, I like the soup-dashi mixture on the rice and egg only rather than on the katsu itself. I just wish the ordering system provides the option to have meals like the katsu juu, separate.
R. Z.
Awesome place to get ramen although the portion bit smaller compare to other ramen shops. Will def come back!
T.
Consistently delicious and a place I always come back to. If you want great ramen or curry, Ichiban stands out as 'ichi ban' (number 1, or the best) compared to all the other ramen restaurants in the area.
They have almost every kind of ramen you'd want, from spicy to thick to light to no soup (tsukemen). If you're not a ramen nut then there's rice for you too! (Curry recommended). Go in small groups of 2-4 or alone is fine too.
S. B.
Ramen soup was full of flavour
i guess after renovation, the taste got better🤗😋
P. C.
I really love this restaurant and wish I could give it five stars. The service is fast, the price is reasonable and the restaurant is very clean. I often come here when my ramen or gyoza cravings hit, specifically for their tonkotsu ramen but unfortunately the last three times I've been here they have been out of tonkotsu broth, even when I've visited at lunch time. I wish they had more consistency and were more prepared as I've been left feeling pretty disappointed and probably won't be returning anytime soon.
B. J.
Our service was incredibly fast, from being allocated to a table, making the order and being served the food. Their ramen was delicious, although I do miss the calibre of the ramen I ate in Japan from Ichiran. Their gyoza had some pretty solid flavours, although there were slightly charred bits on one of the sides. Drama-free, great staff and quick service were the top indicators for this review.
N. J.
Yummy noodle soup! Hot and sour soup with minced pork and shallots.
P. L.
Love coming here for a cheap hearty ramen feed. service is quick and polite and the food is consistently very tasty for a good sized serving. No complaints here, would recommend if you're ever in the area and looking for an easy feed.
G. C.
Super tasty bowl of Ramen. Food was reasonably priced and service was very efficient. Bowl of Ramen range from $10.90 up to $14.00 and was a good size. The restaurant was very popular at lunchtime and can fill up very quickly so u may experience a bit of a wait.
T. H.
We came here Sunday for lunch. Expect long queue, but it was quick. Don't forget to get a number, if you are willing to share a table, they can call you quicker. Wonton Ramen is a bomb, super delicious, I add an extra egg as well, worthy as a chef's recommendation. Ramen Tokyo also great. Both come with clear soup, so not as much filling as tonkotsyo, if you like that way. Service is ok, good come out reasonably fast.
L. A.
This is my go to place when I want a huge bowl of ramen at a really really great price. I have yet to branch out from the shio ramen but I don't know if I can, it's so delicious and anytime I'm in the city I go past this place and get a delicious bowl of ramen. Having alone or with friends, it's always great. It's more of a no frills kinda ramen so don't expect amazing fantastic things but it's a solid choice for when ur hungry and get that ramen craving. Even came here hungover and it hit the spot perfectly
A. T.
Cheap tasty Ramen, worth the wait for a table. The noodles are fresh, my broth was a little salty, but still good.
Tip - write your name in the book on the front desk and take a number as soon as you get there. Also if you choose to share a table you should be in much quicker.
L. W.
Ok the service isn't amazing but its on par for what you'd get at some yum cha joints. But if you don't mind flagging someone for the occasional water refill and actually care about the food, then this is the place to go for great ramen. I come here several times a month for the tantan-men which is full of spicy creamy goodness that I can't find anywhere else.
B. Y.
If I can separate to put star for the food and service I will put five stars for the food and one star for the service. Especially the Thai woman in the counter seems every time she works in a bad mood. Looks like she is the boss of the customer...
K. K.
My partner and I went early on a Saturday night and had a short wait before getting a table. We both choose the Toyko ramen. The broth was delicious, it had just the right amount of consistency and saltiness. The noodles were cooked perfectly too and had a good texture. It's a casual place and at $9.90 for a bowl of ramen is great value.
Y. K. T.
Serves delicious ramen. Had a variety of ramen and don dishes available. Highly recommended if you like Ramen in "non-thick" soup. Queue can be quite long during dinner time, so go early or just prepare to wait a while for a table.
e. w.
I would give it a 4 stars or even 5 stars back 5 years ago. This place has the best gyoza in Sydney and their ramen, curry, karage chicken and agadashi tofu are great too. However, from my past few experience, the service is declining. This place has been a very busy restaurant but the service has been pretty good but not sure why, the service quality is closer to unacceptable lately. Waiter / waitress are rude to customers, no smile, have to ask 5 times for a glass of water. Management needs to do more staff training.
A. T.
While not the tastiest ramen around, certainly excellent value for money. Can be a bit noisy and during peak they want to turn the table over quickly so not the best for lingering. Service is fast once you are seated. Try the iced green tea cappuccino.
R. H.
Not as great as what it was before with the constant addition of Ramen shop in Sydney. They still deliver a good ramen, and their Tokyo Ramen is a classic hit. And they do a really good Hiyashi Chuuka for hot summer time. Sure they look like the past their prime and could use some interior update or something, but they are still a decent place to have a lunch or dinner
R. L.
I'm sad to report the quality of this place has had a marked decrease since their renovation works were complete. The ambiance may have improved but the food has gone backwards. Would really like to report otherwise but three separate visits to this places has gone the same. The portion sizes are nice and big but the stock is dreadfully bland or just plain salty.
R. M.
The food is authentic Japanese and the cleanliness of the restaurant is second to no other I've been to in the CBD with protective panels seperating areas and constant cleaning it's a pleasure to cone here .
A. P.
Ichi Ban Boshi is not so number one as more.. I used to go here since the beginning when there were at The Strand and every now and then to this location. I had the Very Spicy Ramen and Gyoza. The ramen wasn't spicy and the clear soup made it look artificial and tasteless. Gyoza was good. Wait staff were not attentive and had to call for them several times to order. Average customer service and taste for average price, and still pushing their rules... cash only and $8 minimum spend per person
S. L.
Ichiban Boshi used to be my most favourite restaurant, I ate miso / negimiso ramen for four years almost every weekend. However, I won’t say it is bad after renovation, the taste is different now in a way I don’t like. I feel a little bit disappointed. The ramen soup is not as salty oily and thick as before.
F.
The food was really delicious.
J. N.
Stock Standard Food, Food Arrived Fast, Service was good.
F. K.
The ramen if self is not bad, but lack of broth choices for the soup, choosing ramen from the menu book but can’t find in ipad menu and when asking the floor staff they said maybe it sold out without checked with the kitchen staff, only one slice of chasu make it looks not balance with the price.
A. S.
Delicious ramen and very reasonably priced
G. G.
Locals and students favourite for the past 15+ years. Located next to Kinokuniya bookstore. Fast service. Tokyo ramen is their signature dish. If not a fan of ramen, their bento boxes are quite nice too. Our favourites are gyozas, egg omelette noodles and oyaku don. Walk-ins only.
B. S.
This place is always so crowded 😗 I've been coming here regularly for about 5 years. I'll skip the review to the main ramen, you can read their regular offerings elsewhere. Their TONKOTSU ramen is limited to 10-15 per day and they're absolutely worth it. If you've been to Gumshara down at Chinatown and found theirs too strong and thick, this one is perfect. Your best bet to getting one is arriving here around 11am-1pm. Too early and they're not ready, too late they're gone for the day. Tonkotsu ramen is difficult to prepare, it takes hours for them to create the soup base, the really authentic ones need to be prepared overnight. Other than the tonkotsu their tan tan tsukemen is also really nice. 😎😍😆
Also worth mentioning there's a $10 minimum purchase in this place. I once ordered less and they're firm you can't leave unless you hit $10 🤣😂
C. T.
We waited a few minutes for a table, but that’s to be expected at lunchtime on a Friday. The ticketing system was pretty efficient and we had the choice to share a table or not. Once we were seated, we were served quickly and enjoyed the food. It’s important to keep in mind that this restaurant is cash only and plan accordingly.
E. K.
Great ramen here. Love the food as it is consistently good. There is usually a queue but they go through the list fairly quickly. They only accept cash here so something to be aware especially if you usually pay with card.
K.
There is always a wait, so be prepared. The Ramen is delish, service is average.
A. L.
Love the Ramen and gyoza here. This place is always packed. You'll need to get here before the peak hour in order to get a seat. For some reason staff is a bit slow in seating you down despite all the empty tables around. They should fit in extra tables as there's plenty of room!
J. ʕ. •.
Although I had to share table with other people because it was the lunch rush hours. I would still recommend this place to everyone because the food is really great there. I always get the Tokyo ramen , the balance between the soup, topping and ramen is on point.
T. W.
Excellent Japanese ramen place to try authentic ramen noodle. They have limited edition Tonkotsu Ramen daily with only 30 serves, give it a try and you may like it as much as I do :)
J. S.
A bit hidden on the top level of The Galeries, this not too fancy looking restaurant is just right if you like a decent ramen soup. They also have other dishes of course but I haven't tried them yet since my all-time favorite is Niniku Ramen (roasted garlic ramen soup) and I can't get around not ordering it. Unfortunately, they have taken it off the menu (maybe too salty for some people?) but if you ask for it, they still serve it. This place is quite popular so depending on the day, bring some time with you. You will be placed faster if you are happy to share a table with strangers.
R. G.
The food was very good, but the service was quite slow.
O. T.
There’s always a line of hungry patrons waiting to eat at this ramen joint. To be honest, I don’t really get it. The ramens are pretty tasty but there are plenty of better ramen places. Plus they only give you one slice of chashu pork by default which is pretty sad for a meat lover like myself. Don't get me wrong though, I would still eat here on the odd occasion, but I wouldn't line up for it.
Service is courteous and fast.

I love the food (especially the tonkatsu noodles)and service especially now that the order is done electronically. But very surprised during my lunch there yesterday. Children are not allowed?!!? Why? The two ladies with a child already given a table was asked to leave. So disappointed and really feel bad for them. Can't understand as there were high chairs stacked on the side. There was this guy should no children and poor staff although reluctant to approach the customers but she has to do it herself. Guess this will be my last meal with this resto.
N. W.
Best tonkotsu ramen I have ever tried!! Delicious milky soup, highly highly recommend!! Avoid lunch time rush (there will be lines) and don't go during dinner (chance of tonkotsu selling out).
L. L.
Personally my favourite ramen place!! Love their tsukemen with spinach noodles. Their noodles are always cooked to perfection! However during peak hours there is usually a long queue, but it is usually worth the wait.
K. K.
One of the best Tsukemen I've had. The Tsukemen sauce is amazing. I liked the right amount of sournese which makes quite appetising. The portion is a bit small though. Other Ramen menu are normal, nothing special.
O. T. J. (.
Excellent Japanese style noodle soups. The gyozas are worth trying and the serving sizes are reasonable. You may have to get there early as some soups have a limited amount and may run out.
P. S.
Food is always of consistently high quality. They are famous for their various Ramen options which are pretty yummy! Can be big queue during peak hours as they don't take reservations and are super popular and affordable.
D. K.
Fast and excellent customer service. Fine dining at it's best!
A. S. (.
This ramen joint is usually quite busy during peak hour, so expect to wait a little bit for a table. (Maybe take a walk through the bookstore conveniently beside it)
Their food is quite reliably decent, and you can expect to pay about $14 for just the ramen. Personally I think it is a little on the dear side, since there are now plenty of other ramen choices in Sydney.
T. L.
Good food at a very decent price. Decor is relatively non-existent being at the top level of the galleries and sharing a majority of its finishes. One of the only places in Sydney where they serve Tsukemen my hands down favorite Japanese dish and it is downright delicious. Would frequent regularly if I worked nearby. Just be wary of the lines during peak time.
M. D.
Quick friendly service, even taste great takeaway! Yum!!
M. T.
I would say it is one of the best ramen places in Sydney in terms of value and taste. It's usually very cheap however the wait is longgggg! But if you're a big eater it's worth it :)
O. R.
Practically an institution togerher with Kinokuniya. Reasonably priced and tends to be busy. Aburi Chasu-men is my go-to order and this shop does it the best. Order from provided tablets and pay at the counter before leaving. Skip the add-ons and avoid the prawn tempura. Service is quick and efficient but staff can be friendly.
L. M.
Always love the ramen here. The broth is always beautifully complex and delicious. It's no wonder why it's always so popular.
It's also nice to get a hearty meal that doesn't break the bank, can't pick a favourite...yet!
D.
I really enjoyed eating at Ichibanboshi. It was very cheap for the portion they provided. Too bad the wait is usually long during lunch times. I like their efficient seating system where you are asked whether you and your party want a separate table or a shared table with strangers. It certainly reduces the waiting line.
K.
Love the ramen here, especially the tokyo ramen. Good value, good portions but always very busy. Theres always a line and you do get asked to leave if too busy and u have finished your food.
K. N.
Fairly good value Tokyo Ramen, fills you up for 9.90. There's quite a wait to get a table, we had to wait about 50 mins at around 7pm, so it's worth coming by earlier to put your name down on the waiting list and walk around for a bit.
H. M. M.
Delicious food and amazing place. Since the renovation, ichi ban boshi has really upped their game on the service and food placement in the restaurant. You now order from ipads inside your table and there is one per seat. The food service is FAST and the staff are efficient but also lovely.
S. L.
You know you can get good ramen all the time there. Best ramen is the tonkatsu one with the heavy broth. The ice green tea latte is divine and goes well with spicy food. However coz its so popular, the wait can take up to 20min on a Friday night. Best to groups up to 4 people. Found that any bigger groups are hard to accommodate by the restaurant.
M. A.
Greeting staff. Fast paced scene eat your ramen and go! This place is always buzzing at peak hours. So get in there quick! But also delicious food as well no wonder people line up and que for this place 👌👍
D. C.
After renovation it's not as good. The new generation of employees are inattentive, had to get my own cup of water on multiple occasions. Having those roof cover things makes it harder to catch the eye of the waiters. But the food is still good.
M. C.
Nice casual, affordable meals. Can get a bit busy during lunch.
D. C.
Ichiban Boshi is found on the top level of the Galleries Victoria, near Town Hall station. Although there's not a lot of signage to indicate its location, once you head up the escalators, you will see the queue. It's busiest on Thursday and Friday nights, but the queue moves relatively quickly.
The focus here is on ramen. And the ramen is good. Price isn't bad either, at $9.90 for the Tokyo ramen. The soup is tasty without a huge amount of fat, and the noodles a very satisfying al-dente.
I haven't tried many of the side dishes, but the gyoza was okay as was the agadashi tofu.
Good for a quick after work meal.
J. R.
Really good Japanese fast food. The service is quick and the prices are reasonable. Also has a great location. It can get busy at lunch time but the wait is usually not too long.
M. P.
Opposite Kinokunya, Ichiban Boshi has a wide selection of Japanese cuisine for a very reasonable price. You will notice there is always a queue because it is incredibly popular, and you'll be lucky to get a seat around lunchtime. It is well worth the visit.
C. W.
This restaurant is conveniently located just next to Kinokuniya which makes it a great stop over during lunch time. The food is near authentic with reasonable prices. The service is on par with other similar Japanese eateries in the area. Try the Tsukenmen for the great noodle flavour!
C. L.
Good variety of ramen dishes and cheap. Very casual setting. Be prepared to queue at lunch time and weekends but turnaround is fairly fast since it's a eat-and-go type of place.
S.
Hight quality of food with reasonable price, I have been a fan of this shop for nearly 15 yrs :) My favorites are Negi Miso Ramen and Hiyashi (cold noodle - this one is summer time only ), love fresh texture of noodle. Curry rice is nice, too!
D. ..
Lines are always long. Food is good and reasonably priced. Would say the soup is a little salty though.
Service is ordering through a tablet so quick and easy. Accepts card
L. Z.
The restaurant locates in the top floor of the "Kinokuniya" building. It's a popular place because it always queues up after 6pm. And also to be fair, the food is good. But honestly, I'm not a fan of it. Because they are cash-only. It's really hard to believe that a restaurant, which locates in heart of the city and charges $20 per person, doesn't accept any cards!
p. H.
The menu was good and yummy but so croweded.
N. A.
Hidden away on the top floor of Galleries Victoria, there is always a queue to get into this place. Food quality is good, but nothing to write home about. The menu is often inconsistent, but food arrives in a reasonable time and is flavoursome. Some good dishes hidden away in the menu, but it takes some searching.
Cash only is a bit of a downer, so make sure you visit the ATM before you attend. These days that loses a star from me...
R. A.
One of my favourite places to go.
It's fairly prices and always has lovely friendly staff.

Cash only. Reasonable ramen, but on a Saturday at 1pm it was extremely busy. Expect to share a table, and not have a great deal of waiter attentiveness. Cheap and cheerful.
D. C.
Lcoated at the top of The Galeries Shopping Centre, this is a nice Japanese restaurant and you will always find a long queue of people waiting to get a table.
I highly recommend the ramen at this place. There is a huge selection to choose from.
Overall the quality and price of the food cannot be faulted. A great place to go for a value for money meal.
O. O.
I'm fairly new to the world of Ramen, however I feel very confident in recommending this place. There are a good 3 vege options and then a good 12 meat options (they also have udon, bento etc). The staff were friendly and they have beers between $5 - $6. As you'd expect they're cash only, but food is cheap ($9 - $13 for ramen) so $20 per person is ample. Overall I highly recommend this place, I shall be back!
B. G.
Amazing ramens! Really cheap (13 - 20$) and fills easily hungry ones. Worth going for a fast and tasty meal.
K. H.
Ramen joint, tends to have a long line if you are in a busy time, but the prices are good and the ramen bowls big. It also has a cool view of the Galleries. Bring cash.
K. T.
Great ramen. Novelty iPad ordering. Quick service and great options and choices for add ons. Fast seating despite queues. Reasonable prices too. Definitely popular for a good reason.
A. W. G.
Had a bowl of their standard tokyo ramen with a side serving of gyoza. While the gyoza was nice and the soup was standard, the noodle was clumped up as it wasn't boiled properly. Slightly dissapointed with the noodle quality which is supposedly famous in this joint.
Z. W.
it's in the 500 george st, upstairs. it always take time due to the long queue. ice green tea latte is nice, a lot of choices for ramens, big bowls, soupy, for great price, usually around the the $15 mark. If youre not into ramen, there's a few rice dishes too. However, service is not good, no music, canteen style, fast food service type of restaurant. Dont bother staying too long, you get kicked out.
S. M.
Go early to avoid the queue. My go-to is the Tantan-men Spicy Ramen topped with minced pork, egg & choy sum vegetables. Only $15!! It is huge, and spicy and damn delicious.
N. E.
Was in the mood for some katsu curry, and saw this on a list of "best Japanese curry in Sydney." Good curry, hit the spot, and price was very reasonable. Will be back to try the ramen which seems to be their signature
w. x.
This busy eatery near kinokunya is the place to be if you want a quick satisfying meal near the sydney. Although the ambience is not as relaxing, the resturant makes it up with tasty food. Love their noodles and karrage chicken. But my favourite meal of all is probably their Katsu curry chicken. The portion are reasonably sized and the curry is exactly what you expect it to be. Thick, aromatic and full of flavour. If you happen to pass by you should try one of their ramens.
A. v. H.
A favourite in the city for a quick but delicious bowl of ramen. I recommend the tan tan tsukemen, a fried gyoza, and the tempura salmon roll
W. H.
I have been going here for years. Love the Tokyo ramen and the karrage chicken curry rice!
T. L.
This place has been here for a long time and unlike it's other Japanese franchise competitors, you generally see positive feedbacks from all branches. This is no exception.
If you are here for a quick bite and taste of quality ramen, you are at the right place. It's noodle dishes (ramen, soba) generally have praise than its rice dishes. The price is on the cheap end, quantity is moderate (or fulfilling for most ladies).
Down side? It is super busy, long queue is expected. Take a ticket, ask for expected waiting time and drop by Kinokunya (right next door) for a quick getaway from the crowd!
J. C.
ramen are really nice, big portion and cheap. self service in terms of cutlery and drinks. although service from the waiter is limited to ordering, they are very friendly.
M. L.
Ichiban boshi is a great ramen house that is affordable and quick. Service could be improved as it often takes a few minutes to get the attention of a waiter. There is often a long wait for tables at night however it is worth it.
J. “. S. G. G.
Ichiban Boshi cooks great karaage with special sauce unlike other karaage. Try also the Tokyo Ramen and Soba and Unagi. My favourite top Japanese food restaurant in Sydney for over 20 years! Try the one in city and also Bondi Junction.
T. D.
Located right next door to Kinokuniya in The Galleries. There is usually a queue during lunch time, best time to come before 11:30am and after 1:30pm. Food is reasonable and decent for pricing. There is also a smaller stall downstairs but offers a smaller range of dishes.
w. y.
Good cheap ramen, noodle and soup dishes in particular. If you want the cheapest ramen that's still reasonable quality, go the Tokyo Ramen. Otherwise the other ramens are quite good depending on your tastes.
M. S.
Ichi-Ban Boshi is really well located although the actual place feels like more of a food court than a restaurant. They serve up some of the better ramen in Sydney with generous serving sizes.
If you come here in peak hour, be prepared to wait for a good half hour.
J.
Ramen so good :)
H. X.
I ordered the very hot ramen every time, very tasteful. But one of the main waitress is not friendly, not the typical Japanese types of service.
I. W.
Their food is fabulous but the wait is rediculous!! You need to put your name down and a lot if times you will have to wait for 30 mins or more!! I used to work upstairs I'd go and get my number go back upstairs and come back down later. I suggest you go at 12 pm or after 2pm you can usually walk in straight away then. I recommend the cold noodle dish really yummy and also the green tea cappuccino!
S. K.
The waitresses need to work on their English when calling out people waiting (some didn’t understand) and the food (!) when it arrives as it was incomprehensible. Ran out of tonkatsu (and shoju too) ramen at 8pm on a weekday. CASH ONLY. Food ok and came quickly.
B.
Service was so quick for our meals. The ramen was tasty and had a decent portion
S. H.
Cheap and cheerful ramen joint. Be prepared to wait around 10min to be seated, but once seated, service is quick and the food is tasty.
Q. L.
Been to the Bondi Junction venue a couple of times and CBD restaurant is just as good
It was a hot day so I went for the tsukemen which really hit the spot with it's rich, spicy, slightly sour soup
K. W.
i love coming here for the tan tan men and the dumplings.
the soup base is not too salty either so it goes very well together with the ramen. The ground beef is a bit difficult to eat with the ramen so it usually ends up seating there with the soup. I recommend trying to scoop up enough ground beef with the ramen and twisting the ramen to hold together the ground beef and eat it this way. You can eat the beef and ramen together, very nice!
L. C.
Delicious! Veg broth option, great staff and covid safe precautions. You may have to line up but it's worth it.
k.
I always get the same Tonkatsu Ramen here, by far the most traditional and best I've had in Sydney. Emulates the true flavours of Japanese ramen, and completely delicious.
W. F. E.
Ishi-Ban Boshi is a solid, reliable, run of the mill (wind mill or tread mill :P) Japanese restaurant. I quite liked the egg omlette with noodles within; it's always a tasty surprise for me. It's got that rich sort of taste with all those mayonaise based sauces drenched over the salad and food. The chicken was nice but I was wanting a Teriyaki based sauce which Ishi-Ban Boshi doesn't do apparently.
A cheap and cheerful place if you're shopping in town hall and want a bite to eat. I'd come here over Waga mama (which is downstairs) but there are lots of high quality, competitive eateries in the area as well. Regardless, a good meal to enjoy with a friend who was telling me all about her life of work, husband/wife domestics and baby antics.
s. m.
love the place, love the food, servers are friendly, neat clean place, tera kitchen ramen is my favourite must try, conveniently located above town hall station
V. T.
Good ramen, katsu-ju and eel. Not amazing, but the price is good for a filling meal. The tonkotsu is hands-down the best. Can be a bit of a wait.
M. B.
This place does really great ramen with aplomb. It's in a pedestrian mall that is really easy to get to being just a few hundred metres from Bondi Junction train station and bus terminal. I usually drive and park in Bondi Junction Westfield. The Tokyo ramen with the soy egg is great, and the Kakuni ramen is another favourite of mine. The portions are large so you won't walk away hungry!

Ichiban Boshi is one of the best casual ramen places in Sydney! My favourite is the tantan men (淡々麺) and it's delicious!! Second is kaarage cheese curry (唐揚げチーズカレー)...
Go early, don't park and pull your sleeves up and eat with the local college crowd. Don't be afraid to share tables, just don't expect everyone to talk 😅 Definite must try!
W. K.
The new set up is nice. Food was good as usual. A tad bit salty but saw after the option to reduce it on the menu. The owner (I believe) sat us away from the noisy drunk crowd which was lovely.

I have lunch here whenever I'm in the city around noon. The Tantanmen Ramen is fantastic. Make sure you arrive early (or late) so you don't have to wait in line and bring cash as they don't accept any other form of payment.
A. M.
Great, authentic food, fantastic value. However, you usually have to ask each time you want your small glass of water refilled - perhaps wait staff should bring water around more frequently or leave a jug/bottle per table. -

OMG there is only one dish here that is worth mentioning and reviewing.... The Tonkotsu Ramen!!! Limited to a measly 15 bowls a day... this thing is absolutely bloody f'ing fantastic.... I swear the secret ingredient in this is pure 100% crack... it's addictive and at only 15 bowls a day it's almost as rare as a hot stripper at $5 street show.
If you don't like the crack ladden Tonkotsu Ramen or they run out, the tsukemen is also nice... just not as nice... But it's a cold noodle so probably not that nice for winter...
Don't bother getting the drinks... totally overpriced and so not worth it...
For the cheap skates in our of us, visit the Food Court version for cheaper takeaway friendly noodles in a cup.
T. L.
Great, authentic ramen and atmosphere. The ordering system was easy to use and the prices were fair.
T. L.
Lots of different types of ramen and udon. The ambience is food courty. Good prices, fast service. Handy for a quick lunch at the galleries.
W. G.
Very nice ramen and it is super delicious broth for tonkotsu and the Tokyo Ramen. It is very recommended for everyone like to taste ramen that is the best taste in Sydney.
C. D. (.
Cheap and tasty ramen,Foods not very polished like Ippudo or Yayoi but has its own homely charm. Can get very busy during peak times and also cards arent accepted which can get annoying.
C. P.
Love the food here and the items also suit young children. Customer service could be a bit better, but no real concerns
Y.
Salmon was fresh and the ramen was really tasty.
S. D.
It's not much of a restaurant to look at it but the Ramen is plentiful, tasty and cheap. Recommendations are the Karaage Raman, Aburi Chashu men, Tantan men or the Tokyo Ramen.
Great for winter and will definitely fill you up.
V. L.
Ramen and sides are very tasty and worth the price. The tonkotsu shoyu ramen is a must-try!
b. w.
Ichiban Boshi up on Lvl 4 is where you should go eat but the food court one is quicker (limited menu). They really should get galleries to install some exterior seats so you can sit while you wait. That said, come here quite a bit and it's really good value. Had a lot of the menu and partial to the aburi chashumenow, the hot one, Katsu ramen. Good food, excellent portion. Deco is a bit eh but can't fault it otherwise. Staff can be a bit tricky to get the attention for.
P. S.
Still great. Best place for ramen, although the prices have increased since renovation.
Pro tip: the iPad to order is under the table
A. M.
I love the food here - It's delicious, filling and extremely cheap ($10). However it is also always packed out - so don't turn up starving and be prepared to wait for a table! However the food is well worth the wait.
S. Y.
Alright ramen, but good portion and great price.
J. T. J.
The ramen used to be a lot better before the renovation but I still love it's atmos and simple food though hahah
j.
Food is pretty average. Expensive
G. S.
Cheap and quick Japanese ramen. The noodle textures are just right. Yummy gyoza too. Be prepared for queues unless you arrive early enough.
J.
Good spot to get ramen
S. C.
Really nice Katsu curry pork (Japanese style fried pork chop with curry on rice), it's so hard to find Katsu pork in Sydney, crispy fried pork chop with tasty curry sauce, and they got Japanese rice to finish up the meal! Valuable price as well, Perfect!
B. B.
Really delicious ramen at a decent price! Gets very packed during dinner time but service was quick and efficient!
M. C.
Ichi ban boshi has been around for a long time. I remember when they had a shop in the strand. It was a real novelty and it was one of the few places in Sydney that does ramen.
unfortunately for ichi ban, competition in japanese ramen has intensified with several places opening up in the last few years (ton ton, tenkomori, ajisen, and ippudo)
While ichi ban has maintained its quality and standards, I feel like i'm just too spoilt for choice now to remain loyal to ichi ban.
While I still go there one every couple of months, it's more out of convenience than anything else.
I would recommend the karage ramen, the tokyo ramen
J. P.
Ramen broth was absolutely delicious. The noodles were nice too but personally, I felt like it was losing to the broth. Speedy and fantastic service.
M. S.
My vote for best overall ramen in Sydney, taking into account price, size, food etc. Not as busy as a couple years ago but you'll still need to write down your name and take a ticket.
P. Q.
Food is good here and fairly quick to arrive. Be prepared for a wait to get a seat and don't expect great ambiance. Definitely a eat and leave kind of place. But oh my, the food is rather good.
B. H.
Come here at least once a week. Great service. Great food. Perfect price. Staff are so lovely too.
J. S.
Spicy hot ramen is amazing, Gyoza is great. There is a long wait line during lunch on most weekdays. Cash only for some reason .
R. X.
food was really nice and service was FAST
E. R.
Best agedashi tofu in Sydney!
C. p.
Bit awkward that they give you glasses of water and not a jug but that doesn’t matter because the ramen is AMAZING!!! And moderately quick service make is all worth the long travel to get there
J. P.
The ramen and gyoza is very nice. There are 15+ ramen to choose from and they come in different broths. Rice/bento is also an option if you dislike ramen.
J. M.
Very delicious ramen!
b. o.
Had the tonkotsu. Soup was nice as where the noodles. Not too much on the way of toppings. There is a lot better Ramen in Sydney.
D. M. B.
I found their Gyudon bowl absolutely amazing. It is a little pricey, but I'm not complaining. I will definitely come back for the other dishes being served.
S. Z.
Best ramen joint in CBD. It is a shame that they only sell limited number of tongutsu ramen. But there are lot else to choose from.
J. K.
My favourite place to eat when in Bondi junction. Wide variety of options - I recommend the Wonton men or the Japanese curry with chicken.
M. T.
Authentic Japanese ramen for casual dining and service is provided by Japanese in a good manner. Great deal for the price.
J. K.
Cheap and quick ramen. May have to wait for a while during lunch but quite good value for money. Service is okay and food (ramen) is quite good.
L. L.
With Ramen, its all about the noodles. The hand made ramen here are the best in Sydney believe me. Try the Holenso (Spell?) or green spinach ramen as an alternative to the pale yellow ones. Deliciouso!
M. L.
Super popular for lunch with a long wait line. It's pretty good ramen but really noisy and crowded (share tables) so not great for conversation.
M. A.
I tried the Karaage-Don. I would prefer the chicken to be a bit more crispier. Other than that, good food, good prices.
J. C.
Simply the best Japanese I've ever had in Sydney. Bit of a queue to get in sometimes, but well worth it. My favorite is the Tantanmen.
B.
Love this Ramen place! Portions are bigger than other Ramen restaurants but you broth choices aren't on par with others. Cash only.
J. C.
My favourite Ramen in Sydney. Quick and friendly service. Food is delicious!!!!
E. B.
Between all the ramen in Sydney this is the one I prefer, the ingredients are always fresh and the service is really fast despite the big amount of people that go there for eat.
A. L.
Delicious food, great sized meals, fast and friendly service 👍🏻
I. O.
Fresh and delicious ramen! One of the best in Sydney. The waitresses were a bit slow and inattentive though.
C. G.
Delicious food, good prices but the service isn't very good. The staff is friendly but they are very slow and I often see them just standing around when there are people waiting to order their food or be sat down.
W. L.
Pretty good ramen for a mall, price ain't that bad either. Highly recommend trying it if you're here.
j. f.
Delicious food, lovely staff, quick service, and very affordable.
S. G.
Good food, reasonable price and relaxing ambience to enjoy a healthy meal. One of my favourites in the area.
B. C.
not too bad! really busy at nights - the night and friday nights. decent ramen and other dishes - convenient spot to meet up with friends who work in the city
S.
Never had ramen before, but it was amazing. The portions were so big I had to have a nap
S. S.
Good to see a fresh feel place and even more friendlier and attentive staff! Wish there was place to store the ordering tab under the table like the long tables available for the short ones as well!
A. B.
There's always a wait, but it's worth it. Cheap and cheerful ramen. My fave is the tofu ramen with bamboo!
L.
Good price!!and cold noodle was so good!!
N. D.
The lack of vegan ramen is kind of disappointing but there's udon and it's very popular and busy.
A. P.
Delicious tonkatsu ramen and karage chicken. Obsessed! I tried going again last week but they are closed for renovations! I will definitely go again when reopened.
S. T.
Love their ramen, I always get my ramen fix here.
J. Q.
I've been coming here for over 10 years and their greatest strength is consistency. The Karaage Cheese Curry is still the best in Sydney.
T. T.
Great vanilla ice cream so fresh and always so full maybe next time need more room on the table
s. y.
generally good ramen but some are clearly a rip off with a ramen called 'tempura bits' meaning left over tempura crumbs sprinkled over the noodles.
I. L.
Branched out in the basement food court at the galleries. Faster service. Tasty and cheap ramen for people who are short on time.
Y. Y.
A place for decent Ramen. Slightly salty if thats how you like it. The service is excellent and be prepare for a long queue.
W.
Reliable ramen experience for a great price. Expect great ramen but also a wait during peak times.
W. H.
I ate ramen while my baby slept in a pram next to me. It’s as close to heroin I have even been.
T. N.
Mind blowing ramen and udon - the noodles are so silky and fresh. There is a takeaway downstairs in the foodcourt or a restaurant upstairs near freedom.
j.
One of the best in sydney, especially if you like thick freshly made noodles. The side add ons are great
A. B.
Had the vege ramen with egg noodles and "normal stock". Excellent.
Y. L.
Good lunch. It doesn't take too long to wait for the table.
L.
Excellent ramen 💖
V. L.
Always busy. Service good. I don’t really like the ramen taste here.
A. H.
Customer service is alright but they forgot my order. The food is amazing there and there is generally a waiting line to order or dine in. There is another store underground as well
Y. Y.
Minimum for $8 per person. Cash only. Nice place for cheap Japanese ramen
D. K.
Best ramen in australia made by genuine 'japanese' unlike others who just can't get the soup right in clean taste.
O. B.
A fantastic restaurant with great staff. Unfortunately it's good reputation means that there is a bit of a wait and they don't accept reservations.
E. D.
The line to get a seat at the restaurant is enough to put you off. A system needs to be in place. Food was alright. Ramen their specialty.
B. M.
The most amazing Japanese cuisine, available right in the middle of Sydney CBD, everytime the food is amazing , staff always so helpful and can offer that extra experience.
J. h.
Oh my goodness the food here is BRILLIANT. Fresh and the flavours are out of this world.
J. R.
Tasty Japanese food. Professional. Automatic ordering system for customers right at their table.
J. M.
Some of the best Ramen in Sydney. Been coming here for almost 10yrs and I've never been disappointed 👌👌👌 10/10
L. D.
Delicious food, great value. Didn't wait long. Service was ok. Toilets in galleries difficult to find and cash only was annoying.
T. Y.
Wonderful ramen for a cheap price, best food near town hall :)
V.
The Ramen is great, however the service and atmosphere is average. There is usually a queue and it's cash only
C. H.
Best Ramen for its affordable price in Sydney. The tonkotsu is the best for what you pay for.
J. T.
Amazing ramen! Always worth waiting for!
C. G. T.
Best ramen packed with umami flavour. Not for those who dislike strong flavour.
亮.
Love it there. Tantan men is my favourite. Cold noodles are good too.
D. T.
Absolutely amazing. The ramen, the chashu ramen especially, left me speechless. It was basically perfect.
B. M.
Best Ramen I’ve had since going to Japan!
R. C.
Really excellent ramen. other good also pretty good. There can be a bit of a wait.
M. B.
Good food, fast service & self ordered with tablets, no idea of that's how it is in Japan but it's likely how Australians think it is in Japan
J. T.
Good food, good location. Must be early to get seated. Faster to get seated if you dont mind sharing a table.
W. G.
4 stars for the food, but 1 star for the service. I've asked for water thrice, they said yes but they didnt give it. Then i have to take it by myself 🖕🏻
R. W. P.
Great food .friendly people .great for the heart and soul.
J. H.
Seviceable ramen, but with a plethora of other options in the CBD, this place has fallen down the ranks quite a bit.
