The bartenders were hella nice and the live music was good too. We dined there for dinner and food was great. A little disappointed that it was $3 for a small roll of bread and they didn’t provided enough bread for the pate so I ended up ordering like $12 worth of bread for myself (just for entrees) LOL. But ye in general would recommend. Their duck is to die for and we really regretted not ordering two of those bad boys. Ended up fighting over who can have the drum stick. I lost.

Had such a lovely time here. Great atmosphere, cool band (Tuesday jazz night), attentive staff and delicious menu!! Started off with the ceviche which was amazing!! Then had the black rice with pippis which is squid ink... very good!! Then a silk handkerchief pasta.. silky indeed!! Then a fancy french pie with cheese and peas inside.. wasn't as heavy as it looks so don't be afraid! Side of corn because of course and finished with a beautiful fig tarte. My only sad moment for the evening was being sold to on the lovely sounding description of the paté only to find that it was sold out and at the beginning of the night. But will definitely be back and sampling the rest of this decadent menu (and the music of course!)

Great spot close to Circular Quay. Very different from the other Mary's, more classy! Done really great entertainment each night. The Jazz Hip-hop on Thursday was great fun. Get in early for the Happy Hour, highly recommend the chilli margarita @$10. Great vibe. Delicious food! Friendly staff.
M. W.
Underground is just what it is. Fun little dive bar with a comfy feel and outdoor seating. Popular with the younger crowd. Has good food, good beer, and most importantly, happy hour on Monday thru Friday 4-6pm with fabulous $5 dollar margaritas. Talk with Maddie. She’ll set you up.
Has a downstairs venue for concerts and entertainment.
Located on Bridge and Loftus streets. Closes Sunday’s at 10, weekdays at 11 and 1 am on weekends.
I. M.
Oh my... This is one cracking venue. I have had Duck in France aaand it still wasnt as good as this. 10/10 would mouthgasm. Neg reviews I have seen here, clearly dont know what good food is and are not truly living their best lives. Ignore the tight arses, this place is great.
S. M.
I absolutely adore this venue. All staff were very attentive and warm. We ate the truffle tagliatelle and the juicy, charred BBQ prawns. The live band was brilliant and the volume level was very civilised until later, when things got a bit rowdy! I'll definitely pop in after 10.30pm next time so I can eat a burger from upstairs while sitting downstairs and watching the band. 10/10
T. H.
Mary's Burger and the Veg burger were delicious. The music is a bit too loud and the fried chicken butt nearly had me throwing up.. advise to stay away from it like the plague.
B. K.
The Basement redone has only gained charmed as Mary’s Underground! Dark decor meets lovely service in a New York underground jazz bar all in the heart of Sydney. Seafood centric menu so be prepared to eat your way through some amazing and delicious sea creations. Great wine list, punchy cocktails and good beer makes this a place worthy of a night out. Exactly what Sydney has been missing!
N.
Yummy burgers. Great quick bite spot! Fast and friendly staff.
P. D.
A very cool intimate performance space. Every single staff member was incredibly friendly, helpful and FUN! And of course the Mary’s burger was on point! Highly recommended.
E. H.
Nice atmosphere
Wish I had had a burger from here
Comedy was cool
Good service
A. B.
If you are feeling low and disappointed with humanity, come to Mary's CBD and read all messages of love and hope that will warm your heart. The burgers are great too.
A. C.
Nice burgers, very small restaurant/seating area. Most people do takeaway. Interesting grunge style (e.g. graffiti) decor and music
K. S.
Mary’s Newtown now also next to customs house
(yes Slayer Juice, yes it’s still pretty similar to Tooheys old)
Watch out for the fruit bats if you’re outside an it’s fig season :-)
Z. L.
Extremely flavourful burgers - reminds me of home. Juicy patty with great buns. Sweet stand-in place, be aware there is no toilet here.
M. A.
Love it this place is really cool and rad and the food is delicious. The people that work there seem very friendly. They even had a SNES mini playing.
I. T.
Hole in the wall kinda place. More for take always, there is seating for 5 inside. They had cowboy bebop screening on the tv so the wait isn’t too boring. Staff were super friendly. Ordered the chicken burger, cheeseburger some chicken butts and a couple of hash browns.
Food was very good. I highly recommend the chicken burger and butts.
R. A.
The bar upstairs was much nicer (in terms of staff and drinks) than the underground.
We went for a performance. It was our first time so we went there at the time on our tickets. Took a while until we were let in, and the performance began 2.5 after that. Drinks menu was very limited and overpriced. I wanted to ask about the few whiskies they had but the barman in the cap was not interested to talk.
R. M.
Burgers 🍔 🍔 - if you love 🍔 and are anywhere near the CBD then you need to try Mary's. I had the double cheese burger (it was a tad expensive at $16 for the size) but the ingredients (cheese, pickles, sauces) were just right so nothing overpowered the star of the show the meat patty which was deliciously cooked. I'd definitely recommend checking out Mary's and I'll be going back for sure.
C. G.
Hands down, the best cheese burger in town. Medium patty crisped to perfection. Not in love with their Mary's Burger as the sauce is a bit overpowering and has a lot of garlic.
Just go for the cheeseburger and you can't be wrong
A. C.
Great service, quick to serve with the sizzling in the background. Very awesome burgers.
F.
Best chicken burger ever, never even bothered to order a beef burger from them cause I just can't not order the chicken when I go.
T. M.
Amazing food, cocktails, atmosphere and service! Went for my birthday and was not disappointed 👍👌
J. M.
Ok burgers. They come with a little too much attitude and probably not worth the wait or the price.
E. P.
If there ever were restaurants/jazz bars where the hype was lived up to, this establishment would receive a mention. Upon entry I knew the service would be several notches above regular foodie joints as they took our coats and introduced us to our waitress. Although the menu focussed on classic flavours, the delivery was nothing less than appetising. With a delectable wine selection, pleasurable cocktail list, and exquisite five piece jazz band wafting modern New Orleans style music across the floor, Mary's Underground will be added to those go-to lists for Sydney-siders looking for a fun place to hang out or to treat someone to a delightful experience in a place that will not let you down.
J. L.
Great to be back into a live music venue. Great atmosphere and love the fact that they are taking lots of precautions to open safely during COVID.
J. H.
Super friendly staff, and perhaps the best burger I've ever had.
J. V.
Great burger, nice atmosphere and the arcade makes this place an awesome site to be😊
A. D.
Foods OK and sort if small portion wise, and there is no sit down service. And it can be pricy if you want a meal.
H. G.
I haven't had every burger in Sydney, but these are so good why bother? Whenever I'm in town I try and have at least one
D. R.
Great hole in the wall burger joint. Superb patty and the grease soaks the bun and cheese.
A. B.
Got the chance to try Mary's for the first time, went for the Chicken Burger ($13) and was very happily greeted with a deliciously crispy thigh fillet pressed between two soft buns and salad. Didn't get any drinks or fries so can't comment however basing off the burgers I'd say they would be great. Decent price for what you get, though some seating would be great as there is nowhere you can sit within eye sight of the store.
There is some bad reviews for this place but my experience was great, check them out!
L. L. N.
Casually walk past it, and you might miss it. Except for the line during peak time. :) Burgers are delicious, the crew are usually friendly, and the shakes are tasty (repair the machine and bring back the Smoked Maple flavour!) :)
I. R.
Amazing burgers, amazing service, really good fries
G. M.
I had hands down the best ragu ever. It was so delicious I called my mother to tell her about it. Also, it was awesome to see The Don live 👌
C. S.
It's a great grunge hangout in the middle of the city if Newtown is too far. Calling themselves the Loggerhead Coffee Co. now too
E. S.
Burgers not too bling, but still good. Great friendly service.
M. D. V.
Order took just a tad too long and they gave me a refund + more fries.
J. V. W.
The music on the Saturday evening both the live and DJ was excellent.
Food wise the choice is limited and the main dishes portion wise were somewhat small in particular the fish, apart from the Burgers which were tasty. The Desserts were very tasty and good sized portions.
The wine selection of Chianti although costly was good
With regards to the service it was average and nothing special
Overall it is an expensive place with nothing special to recommend it apart from the music
S. S.
The burger here is worth getting a heart attack.
L. L.
I will miss Mary’s burger.... oh the oil the fats... burgers are supposed to be sinful... it may not be the best out there but to me, it’s good enough. And yes the owners play rock music. The place is small so I suggest pack it back to enjoy or if cannot wait, eat on the spot. Mine is Mary’s burger with egg so work out to be Aud 14 + 2= Aud 16.
B. G.
Pleasure on a plate. Get in my mouth Mary’s Fancy Burger! If you think a burger & fries couldn’t get any better then you haven’t been to Mary’s underground. Sublime atmosphere, heavenly hedonistic cocktails & the greatest of grunge retro decor. Love, Love, Love. Oh, did I mention the live funk music, ugh, too much goodness!
K. W. T.
One of the best burger I’ve ever tasted in Australia (Melbourne, Tasmania and Sydney to be precise). Ordered the Mary’s burger and I really love the bun and how juicy the beef was together with their sauce. Added a fries and it was quite heavily salted though it remained crispy after I had them 30 minutes after buying. Read online they are famous for their fried chicken too which I didn’t try. Not much seats in this branch but just take them away as the quality of food will still be there. Just a note to bring cash if you don’t want to incur a small percentage for the card payment. Thumbs up guys 👍🏻
B. V.
We LOVE this place and believe so much in the owners heart for the live music scene!
The food here is delicious, and consistently good. The atmosphere is amazing, service is great and the drinks are top notch.
Definitely recommend this place for an awesome time!
C. J.
On point service. House band is banging the jazz standards - at a volume you can handle a Friday night conversation. Great food and fine wine will return.
Edit: Menu is now burgers and fries. I understand why but ugh. We have too much of this.
G. M.
Nice setting, few chairs but it is in a great place that favours take away (on the CBD, just on the way home). The burgers are awesome, of good price and the meat is of great quality. I'll certainly be eating here again!
T. b.
Mostly tasty food and has a good vibe, but felt that the menu was very limited, the dishes were overpriced for what they are, and were only just big enough to share. The wine menu was extensive, but again, overpriced. The desert actually tasted burnt (the pastry) and we couldn't eat it. The waiter said that's how it's served there but apparently a few other people had said the same - they might want to give the chef the feedback.
J. O.
Sensational venue. Fantastic friendly staff are all kind, polite and very helpful, plus there are plenty of them serving food and drinks fast. Excellent accoustics'. Plenty of tables and standing space all around. Huge dancefloor. Highly recommended.
D. “. N.
Fantastic staff, good food and great atmosphere. No complaints!
K.
Juicy delicious chicken burger. Nuff said.
Z.
Well done to the Mary's team for relaunching the old Basement space with a combination of live music, full service/late night restaurant and separate clam bar.
Ate clams, duck liver parfait, snapper on the bone, rotisserie duck, Bombe Alaska and a couple of sides. All of it was enjoyable, but the rotisserie duck was a bit of a letdown.
Service was slightly off, then again the opening weeks at a new restaurant are pretty tough!!
Overall - very enjoyable and this is a much needed shot in the arm for Sydney's nightlife in the era of lockout laws and tight government regulations.
r. s.
Honestly I feel like this place is massively overrated.
I went in with high expectations after reading all the reviews on online saying how awsome it is.
Yes the hamburger is tasty but Its defiantly not the bet burger I have had and certainly not worth the $20 meal price tag.
C. B.
Best burgers this end of town. The deep fried cauliflower is special and worth a try... the mash wasn’t so great. Young Henrys on tap. Friendly service.
H. W.
The burgers seem tiny at this store compared to Newtown. Saltier as well
H. M. M.
The food is delicious, can't go wrong with that. The band (Godtet) was great and I would recommend coming on a night they were playing. The drinks were extremely expensive, we looked up a $60 of wine and BWS sell it for $19. The staff hovered over us and were very pushy with what we should order, and up selling us on food but not in a subtle way.
The entry staff were lovely though, so enthusiastic to say hello and goodbye all the way out. I would recommend this to others but only with hesitstion.
k.
Went on a Wednesday night and were told that there was only standing space which was fine. Our group of about 6 people stood around with drinks and asked to put our names down for a table at 9pm when the next set was on. We left the venue after the first set to grab dinner elsewhere and came back at 9pm for our table.
When we sat down the staff were quite rude about the fact that we weren’t eating mains and just grabbing dessert and drinks.
I think if you’re going to invite great bands like Godtet along and advertise yourself as a music venue you’ve got to expect that some people are going to come just for the music, especially if you’re going to advertise set times.
Unfortunate.
Also expected more professional conduct from wait staff as someone who has worked in hospitality for a decade. It’s not hard to be nice
C. B.
What a place! Totally unexpected, a must see if youre in Sydney. Make sure you book in advance as this place is very popular. Think NYC underground Jazz mixed with a fine dining experience. Very unique and definitely worth a visit
H. O.
Very good chicken burgers
K. M.
Cool venue, dimly lit great servers/bartenders. Food was great too.
J. M.
Mate and I enjoyed cocktails on Saturday night so much we booked for Monday night dinner. Fantastic improv jazz trio, Foshe, treated us to two sets whilst the staff looked after us impeccably. Other tunes selected were spot on. Food - exceptional, especially the hassleback carrots and the duck. Booze - great selection, terrific somm. More than highly recommend.
O. L.
Awesome atmosphere, really good chicken burgers, friendly staff... Only thing not giving it 5/5 is the fact that the chips were the exact same as what I could get at McDonald's for cheaper.
A. H.
I haven't been in while but the chicken burger is fantastic as well the mash instead of the fries. Not much seating inside. Friendly and helpful service
l. r.
Waiter adviser the food was to share however the portion sizes were hardly enough for 1/2 people. Expensive meals essentially paying for the “upgrade” when Mary’s took over the basement. Tiny bathroom cubicles if you are tall or have long legs good luck. Sydney has plenty of great places to have a bite & a drink with friends, don’t think I would go back
T. H.
Burgers and drinks were great. Although it’s hard to justify the price a simple burger.
Staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
K. F.
Such an amazing experience and a great addition to the Sydney night life.
From the music to the service and the food (ohh .. the food is amazing) - this place delivers.
We were fortunate to be treated to music in the Cuban style of "Buena Vista Social Club" - these guys delivered. There was dancing - but you didn't have to dance. These was conversation. There was music. But it was all optional. The music was there - and you could still have a conversation at your table.
I've been to some very nice restaurants recently. I'm impartial to Hubert, Bistro Rex. My partner's tastes have ventured furhter to Quay and others. The food at Mary's rivals almost any restaurant that we have been to. It's extraordinary.
We enjoyed the carrot, the blue swimmer tortellini, accompanied by the vegetable pie and the pork chop. All exquisite. All prepared by amazing chefs. Despite it's lowly origins - the carrot side dish is a stand out. The best carrot I've ever had.
The only (minor) criticism is the lack of light in the toilets. It's a little disorientating in there (perhaps after the effect of some of the Sangiovese).
I'll be back. Next time to try the lobster - save one for me.
J. R.
Good burgers ! Great music & good staff vibes.
By the way - Ben is out of the blue great job guys!
h. s.
Mary's underground is a basement venue with live music and fantastic food!
a superb cocktail choice and I was pleasantly surprised by an organic Pinot Noir - organic is not usually my thing but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Blue Swimmer Crab Tortilla will make me re-visit alone .. the burgers and fried chicken at their upstairs venue will have to wait until next time but I am a fan from the Newtown venue regardless .. great service from the team and manager Adam, will be back ...
R. C.
Awesome place, great food and the staff are legends. GOOD place to go on FRIDAY to eat beef burgers and drink beer!
A. H.
Great vibe, great service, great food, 10/10 perfect amount of water
K. J.
I'm shocked this place doesn't have a higher rating on Google. It's incredible! I'm not sure what's better out of the cocktails, food or atmosphere, however I am sure all three are fantastic! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
J. M.
literally delicious. the best burgers i have had hands down. have went there thrice already and never got disappointed.
r. s.
Really enjoyed the meal tonight. Great drinks too with great service. The live band was actually really great fun... All up a wonderful night.
G. L.
Food was great, music was great, service great. Very relaxed atmosphere without being casual or packed. You can still talk while listening to great tunes. Love it.
G. J.
This place is nothing special. But if you like to try new burger places this is defiantly one you should give a whirl. The burgers are oily and fatty. Good ratio of sauce on the burgers. Taste delicious. Great burgers!
A. M.
Delicious burger, but personally overpriced for my liking. Guy behind the counter was not helpful. One of the chicken pieces ordered was still raw, but otherwise it was ok
b.
I don't know why everyone else complains about this place. Burgers are always delicious and service is always great. Plus I love the cool vibe of the place, always cranking out bangers for everyone in the street to hear.
J. P.
The best best burger I’ve ever had in my life💕
And nice chips too I looovvveeee Mary’s burger
F. C.
The ‘Mary’s Burger’ is Australia’s best burger, hands down.
Order a double Mary’s, with extra extra trash can bacon, get chips and don’t look at the bill. Thank me later
RE: Mary’s CBD, Blake is an absolute legend
D. L.
Really good burgers! We got a regular burger and chicken burger and they were both awesome.
D. A.
The burgers here are amazing but there is only one issue I have encountered. One of the waitress' with the shaved back of her head with a ponytail, didn't even bother to ask what our takeaway order was, shoved us a bag and it had the complete wrong order!!! Other than that I have had a perfect experience
B.
Pretty good burgers and price is reasonable. Just add extra meat and cheese otherwise you'll be left wanting more.
N.
Nice flavour burgers. Fast food for sure. A bit sloppy. Quick easy ok price point. Shop smells though
N. W.
Amazing burgers 😍 the vibe is great although music is really loud so it's had to talk if you are try to catch up with friends. Can't wait to go back!!
G. S.
I've had better burgers. Had high hopes before I ate there. Still a good burger though!
A. P.
The food was delicious however it is very expensive for what is a very small burger. I would come here more if the prices were more fair! :)
J. G.
Easily the best Western style burger I've had 👌🏻
L. M.
Good vibes and staff were super friendly. Went late at night so not much sitting space, but was inly there for a take away order. Highly recommend. 👌
r. R.
Burgers and staff great little on smaller side but very delicious american style patties and bun
P. B.
Absolutely love the burgers, simple yet delicious. Chips need a bit more cooking, mash and gravy is so good....Id bathe in it!
N. F.
Killer burgers, friendly staff.
The chicken burger and chicken (sans burger) is unreal.
The milkshake machine is dead and buried which is somewhat devastating.
C. X.
Nothing over the top just a simple good burger, mostly to do with that special sauce. 1 of the best I've had but a bit small, you'd need 2.
K. M. (. K.
Reminds me of Five Guys without the bacon... darn good burger... has escalated to one of my favorite burgers... take away only... fried chicken was spicy and different but in a good way!
D. Y.
Had the Fish Burger (with fries combo). Good burger composition, sauce, crumbed fish and bun.
Fries very salty, and somewhat soggy.
Total of ~8 bar seating, so will probably need to takeaway at peak times.
T. P.
It's a good burger, but quite pricey for something not all that special.
G. B.
Amazing burgers and great staff. Small space so don't expect to get a seat at peak times or with larger groups.
M. S.
My one and only favourite Burger place. Their burgers are irresistible.
C. a. M.
Quite expensive and the beef burger was nothing spectacular. We heard great things about their chicken burger though!
A. H.
Great if you want a juicy and delicious burger. It also goes well with one of their shakes which is something thats worth trying out.
D. H.
Great burgers, friendly staff.
T. N.
By far the best burger I've had - the beef is so juicy and smokey. Go there now
R. K.
Crazy awesome staff, stunningly good burgers and chips. The mash and gravy is rich and decadent and makes me feel like I'm dying in a good way.
M. T.
Nice burgers, but way overpriced. The store is ugly and there's nowhere to sit.
J. G.
Fantastic burgers. Will be back.
A. W.
Fantastic burgers, fried chicken, shakes, fries, etc. Prices aren't too bad. Only drawback is that depending on the time, there may be a wait for your order... which shows how popular it is.
V.
Burgers here are soooo tasty and the waiters have so much personality!
R.
Super friendly staff and I'll never get over the fried chicken burger! So moist and juicy with cool crunchy lettuce and covering the fries in Mary's hot sauce was just about the cherry on top!!! 10/10 finger lickin' 🐓🐓🐓
A. S.
Great little hole in the wall. Mary's famous Newtown joint has imprinted a small stamp in Sydney's CBD. They offer the same vibe and charm as their Newtown counterpart however the Breakfast Burger was what made the distinction to cure the morning hangover
K. F.
Honestly THE best veggie burger I’ve ever had! Flavoursome, generously sized and mmm mmm.
Service is totally awesome with friendliness and efficiency. Plus a great rocking playlist of music while you wait.
Eat in or take away, either way it’s the best!
D. B.
Great burgers, good tunes, nice staff
R. S.
Such a great date venue, food is outstanding (and not overpriced) drinks and cocktails really good... And they also have a live band
T. M.
Much better priced than Mary’s Underground.
Decent burgers and service
P. B.
Great small little venue for live music!
A.
Decent burgers, I would prefer betty’s burger over this.
B. O.
Quite fast service considering how busy they get. Lots of delicious options to choose from, burgers are always tasty (although can look a bit deflated), chips are crispy and very salty. Shake is yummy too
J. W.
Great house band, really high quality food, excellent ice cubes - I don't know if they are using artisanal ice or not, but whoever it is that is in charge of the ice sure as hell knows how to cube!
S. S.
Best burgers. Chicken Burger is amazing. All I want now is Mary's Burger when come into the City
D. W.
Great burgers not amazing chips. Milkshakes maybe would be good
e. l.
Okay in taste but the burger was too small, overpriced. Nothing to get excited about!
A.
Burgers and chips were awesome especially the fried chicken one but a tad bit salty
B. N.
To date we will have not found a burger place that would even match the taste of Mary's burgers
Vibe is cool, seats are limited.
Staff are very friendly, if you're looking at getting a burger this place is a must on anyone's list.
S. L.
Had the fried chicken burger for $13. Honestly one of the best fried chicken burgers I've had in the city. Bit of a wait for the burger but worth it. Note this is a takeaway place only, you can't dine in.
R. S.
A venue with an emphasis on music, whilst being able to enjoy dinner. Reminiscent of New York style piano bars/live music venues. Keep it coming Sydney.
A. L.
Good burgers and cool grungy atmosphere.
K. W.
Heaps of fake reviews. As someone that's actually eaten here, it's not as good as Newtown Mary's, but the fried chicken burger and milkshakes here are pretty great.
P. N.
Good burgers though it'll feel pricey if you compare the size of what you very against the competition
M. T.
Decent hamburgers here, i come here often during my lunch break. Little pricey though
J. T.
Amazing burgers! Some of the best in Sydney for sure if not the best
N. T.
Fried chicken here is soooo good! Chicken burger equally as amazing!
A. L.
Great burgers. Glad that they introduced some seating options. Service is fast.
W. S.
Best burger ever. Good quality burger
N. S.
Most likely the best burgers and cocktails in the world. Absolutely unique atmosphere and friendly service. I don't think it's possible to top that, at least in Sydney :)
D. Z.
It's not good and it's not bad. Burger was tasty, chips were maccas style. Pretty much a create your taste maccas burger. Lines and slow food preparation. No seating. Friendly staff take your order and seem to be enjoying what they are doing.
J. D. V.
Great burgers and nice staff. Play streetfighter while you wait.
P. J.
Clean classic burger, generous serving of fries
L. T.
Food spectacular, staff friendly and accommodating, the entertainment amazing. We enjoyed a Christmas get together and would highly recommend.
O. Y.
A bit too grease for my taste, a fantastic burger overall.
G.
Shake shack, In and out burgers can sit their buns down as Marys chicken burgers take the crown. Always consistency delicious. Reward your tastes buds. They deserve it.
P.
Excellent burgers. I wish they still did breakfast!!
N. M.
Great service, beautiful food. One either loves Mary's or hates it. Don't complain about it being "too salty." You know what you signed up for.
E. J.
Just as good as the Newtown original! And with the bonus of being able to grab take away to eat it back at the office and drive everyone else nuts with their salads!
Service is great, staff are friendly and funny and the food tastes just as good as Newtown.
N. G.
Lovely burgers besides the friday long lines they are amazingly tasty burgers.
V. B. J.
Great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend it. Cheat meal that is worth every bite!
S. C.
Really good experience. Good food and friendly service. What more can you expect. Would recommend.
C. O.
This funky little place has good service and great burgers and fries and the wait is not too long. I'd like to give it 5 stars, but it's take-out only so we walked the short distance to Hyde Park for a sit down lunch.
J. H.
Awesome burgers. Funky vibe and funny menu.
E. M.
Great staff, food is good, portions are more than enough for anyone. Plus the atmosphere is lovely!
F. L.
Acceptable quality for the price. The burgers aren't quite as good as the Mary's in Newtown. Judged as a standalone entity, the burgers are decent, fast service and cool vibes. The fried chicken is a bit salty. Go easy on the celery salt. The Nintendo is a nice touch.
P. R.
Strongly recommend Mary’s Burger.
Bar staff are courteous, accommodating, and second to none. They truly go above and beyond to enhance their customers dining experience.
Must recommend the Slayer Juice, though all their beverages are delish.
A. R.
F&%# ing good burger. Awesome staff
J. P.
Great burgers ,90s rock , edgy service all good
T. A.
Love this place. Amazing food. Only problem is there aren't much places to sit
P. L.
They easily have one of the most delicious double cheesburgers in the whole city. For the best experience, I recommend ordering online so that you don't have to deal with their service.
F. H.
Not as good as the original store in Newtown but still a very tasty chicken burger.
F. C.
Correct food but very similar to fast food chains. The meat was good though. A bit disappointing.
E. T.
Awesome live music venue with pub style food and cocktails
M. C.
Everything you'd expect from Marys.. Epic burger, awesome soundtrack, great staff. Just a true slice of heaven. And did I mention the burgers are frickin awesome.. If you like burgers, love rock and all the good things in life Marys is for you.
C. J.
Greasy goodness. Recommend the veggie burger.
S. B.
Simple burgers done exceptionally well.
D. F.
First time at this location, and the burgers are great as the Newtown location. Fries are on point. 10 out 10 will eat here again. And again.
R. P.
Reasonable burgers, but not up to the level of hype. There are better options in the city.
E. B.
Love Mary's in new town love the take away here, you have burgers that you don't have in the new town one and there are no place where to seat, O you have an idea where to go to eat or if is a good day just go to hide park..
G.
Ran out of fried chicken burger at noon :/ shame shame.
Regular Mary's burger and cheeseburger is still good after these years. Crispy fresh fries.
S. S.
Atmosphere is fun, small place so expect to eat somewhere not in the building. Burgers were really really good, but everything else was salty to the point of inedible. Chicken butts in particular was pure salt for the breading. Stick to the burgers and you'll have a good time!
V.
I’d do anything to get my share of that Mary’s burger but man they made me wait 20 minutes for it. And it wasn’t even busy :(
J. M.
Great burgers and shakes. Just get there before the lunch rush
S. Y.
Now I can get my Mary's fix in the city! Come for their famous Mary's burger (add extra trashcan bacon, it's worth it) and the fried chicken burger. No seating but you can easily walk over to Hyde park nearby
A.
Great burger, quick service, cool vibe
L. B.
After all the hype, I was a bit underwhelmed...the fried chicken was fantastic but the burger around it was soggy and far too greasy. I wouldn't rule out ordering there again, but I'm not rushing back.
C. R.
Such a fabulous venue. Intimate. Great jazz. World class.
M. B.
Great burgers, well worth the visit
M. M.
Pretty good burgers, but everything is very salty.
S. L.
The little sister of the big sister! Still amazing burgers and great for when you’re on the run in the CBD! Get there!!
A. E.
Sloppy cheeseburgers and heavy fried chicken with smooth creamy mash. Can't go wrong. Parking sucks though unless you go off peak
M. S.
Amazing food as always. One of my favourite burgers in Sydney. The cookie was a great way to finish the meal.
E. M.
The burgers here are worth the wait!
K. N.
Amazing food. Their food never fails to please.
A. W.
Love the strawberry milkshake!!! Tell them to hold the cookie crumbs on top... also half sauce on the burger
T. T.
definitely no health points here. fatty cheese burgers and amazing fried chicken burgers. You can also grab drumsticks and mash n gravy too now! No alcohol but grab a thick shake instead.
S. -.
If you're OK with waiting without seating and shuffling awkwardly around people as they pick-up their orders, incredible chicken and burgers, then this place is for you. Between the inconvenience and the great food it almost balances out. Which gets you back to zero. So I personally would avoid this place. Maybe consider using an app to get the food delivered for you instead?
C. D.
I love this place. I’ve been going to Mary’s CBD location regularly since it opened and I love pointing out something I scribbled on the wall when they first invited guests to contribute to the wall art. It has a cool punk rock vibe and in my experience the staff have always been really friendly. I recommend the Mary’s burger or the fried chicken burger. You’ll usually need to take your food away as there is limited seating inside but there is a great seating area outside the ANZ building (1 min walk) or Hyde Park around the corner.
A. T.
Great venue, great food.
J. V.
good price for decent burgers with a cool vibe
S. O.
For the price you pay, burgers are on the smaller end of the scale but.., still one the best cheeseburgers I've had in a long, long time. More suited for a quick fix as opposed to a full meal.
G. C. L. T.
Amazing double patty burguer. Tasty, juicy, really soft bun. All you can ask for a respectable burguer!
O. T.
This burger takeaway joint has a strong identity. I love all the cool graphics but regarding the food, there's room for improvement.
On my first bite, it reminded me of a McDonald’s burger. It was a familiar taste but the quality of the ingredients was definitely far superior to the fast food mega chain. The beef comes through despite of it’s size. I actually understand why the patty was so thin, because it was quite salty. If it was slightly less salty it would've been perfect. I liked the bun too.
The thick shake was a little to sweet for my taste and the chips was a little bit soggy. For me, the burgers were definitely worth another go but I would love to see the other components of the meal stepped up a notch.
The staff taking our orders was cheerful and lovely.

Food: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Atmosphere: 3/5
Value: 3/5
Visit again: Maybe
Try these: Mary's burger
N. S.
Pretty good greasy quick food. Fried chicken the best. Naughty treat though not for every day!
B. O. (.
I was falling asleep with joy as I ate the original Mary's burger that's how good it was 😊
M. R.
Great burgers and awesome loud music \m/
D. R.
Burgers were ok, fairly small and simple for the price. All up it was $24 for a hamburger, chips and a water.
m. d.
I don't know who mary is but she is one bloody good tasty burger ive ever had in my life....😁😁😁
C. S.
Great food and super friendly service. We played SNES games while we waited!
H.
Interesting set up. Arcade games to play while you wait, and pretty decent chicken. But for the amount of money you pay, not really worth it. Better off going to newtown for actual chicken
J. D.
Great burgers but on the expensive side.
J. M.
Pretty decent burgers 👍
O.
Burger and fries were okay. They are apparently famous for the mary's sauce
R. S.
Delicious! Double meat Mary's Burger with a hash brown. Perfect meal for the night.
H. G.
Always fantastic! I had the Chicken Burger, cooked fresh and friggen delicious. They had a SNES Classic set up to play while I waited for my order - top notch.
T. T.
Awesome burgers and chips. Make sure you ask for Mary's sauce for dipping your chips. Staff is super chill especially Blake.
N. B.
Slow service, small portions and a menu that is somehow trying too hard. Saying that management comped a couple of drinks in recognition of the service issues.
A. P.
One of the best burgers I've had in a while. Seems like Mary's secret is to keep it simple with high quality ingredients. Beef burger was just a delicious patty on a leaf of lettuce, tomato slice and some secret sauce. No over complications, no sky high pile of layers straining between two bits of bread, no unhinging your jaw to eat.
A. V.
Nice burgers which are not dry and have quality material. although chips are equivalent to McDonalds and sitting space is small.
S. C. J.
Good hamburger, nice atmosphere
B. D. C.
Awesome food, awesome vibe, awesome staff! Get your ass there! 😈
V. L.
The burgers n shakes here are simply the best...
C. K.
The staff were very friendly and the food is always on point. 10 outta 10 😋
S. M.
I love Mary's and I like the vibe of this little outpost. The burgers were on point but the chips were super disappointing.
S. S.
They we're amazing and catered from my vegetarian needs. Went above and beyond!!
P. S.
Officially my new number 1 burger joint. I have a soft spot for cheeseburgers and these guys do the best cheeseburgers in Australia! In the world even! Just melts in your mouth 🤤 and the staff are awesome! Hubby and I ate in after an escape room with friends, they were so friendly and even gave us free chips!
B. M.
service was great. im not from sydney so i asked the local police for the best place to eat. wasnt disapointed
B. M.
Decent burgers, but not as good as Grilld for the same price. Milkshakes are way overpriced: $9 for one that should be $6 as they're pretty average.
T. V.
Tasty, vegeterian and gluten free options. Have fries, burgers and milkshakes, all you need to be happy
M. A.
Probably one of the best burgers you can have in the Sydney area
R. H.
Despite plenty more competitions showed up in burger scene lately, I still considered Mary's as one of the best burgers in town. They always deliver a nice a juicy burger every time with consistency. This place is small and only do takeaway, so make sure that you have a place to eat the burger nearby
S. K.
Very nice burgers :)
H. N.
Amazing food every time. Partner and I stop here on the way to the airport as a pre travel ritual!
D. W.
Great food, but a bit expensive. The heavy metal vibe seemed a bit forced. The wait was a little bit longer than I expected.
R. M.
One of the best burgers in Sydney hands down..
M. H.
Amazing fat food, couldnt eat it often but great for a splurge. Gonna hit you in the gut and the wallet but worth it!
P. F.
Great burgers, but avoid the meatball sub.
A. P.
Best burger in the city, fast, clean, delicious!
K. M.
Food is good but poor service
E. A.
This is a lovely hidden pearl. Excellent setup, great live music, good table service, good selection of drinks and Excellent meals.
G. M.
Top quality burgers. Enough said.
H. S.
Great cheeseburger. Fantastic beef that melts in mouth with cheese.
J. S. A.
Went here this morning for breakfast burgers. They were really good, plus Blake’s a legend and deserves a pay rise.
j.
Had the Mary burger as it was recommended by a friend. The burger was fresh and tasted great. I went for the hash browns instead of the burger buns. Sauce was good too.
As regards the venue, I know they are going for the "shock and awe" angle with all the profanity on the walls and menus it felt a bit over the top. Kinda of felt like I was eating in a public toilet with a whole heap of random tags and drawings everywhere. Not a place you can take small children that can read or those that are sensitive to vulgar language. I get it, your all so angry.
C. F.
Burger brilliance. First of all this is one of, if not the best burger in Sydney. The ratio of ingredients, the spicy-ness of the mustard. The grilled-ness of the bun. Everything is ideal. I love it. Marys is a shining beacon of hope in the desolate burger wasteland that is the CBD of Sydney. It's probably about $2 more expensive than it should be it's Sydney and $2 doesn't really matter
R. C.
A very particular type of burger. The bun is soft and slightly sweet. But its so thin and allows the meat patty to shine through. The meat patty is always a touch pink and juicy. The tomato is always excellent. This is not a "stacker" burger meant to look good. Its meant to be eaten and savoured. It's thin, juicy and flavours all balanced. If you like this style of burger - then arguably one of the best in Sydney.
L. H. (.
Best burgers in Sydney, if you ask me! Had the Mary's burger with fries.
M. W.
A little overpriced, but the fried chicken burger is full of flavour and perfect for when you feel like being a disgusting lump and dozing off at work all afternoon.
A.
Wow. Just wow. Best burger of my life.
D. M.
The chicken burger was amazing and the service was brilliant. Thanks Victor, your a champ.
L. S.
Burgers were a little greasy but hit the spot and the chocolate shake was amazing as were the fries! $21 for all three in the meal.
T. C.
Double cheeseburger was amazing and now my favourite burger in Sydney......closely followed by Burger Project.
Fantastically juicy burger packed with flavour and soft buns. I added another pattie to get a bigger meat to bun ratio and was happy with it.
No seating available but the order came quickly.
A. B.
A bit of a grunge style eatery food served fast and hot..Tastes like Mcdonalds
O. S.
While everywhere else is trying to show off with overly tall burgers served on chopping boards, Mary's is serving simple burgers and letting the quality speak for itself.
The chips are just standard fries and not worth commenting on. Next time I will buy two burgers instead.
D. K.
I prefer Mary's Newtown. This branch still serves great burgers. I recommend takeaway, as the seating is a little exposed, but ok if needed. The coffee hits the spot too.
R. M.
Mary's franchise as a whole, they have grasped burgers in their purest form. I've lived in many countries and visited many more. Mary's cheese burgers are, dare I say, "S" tier with their less is more approach.
Mary's CBD has nice selection of beer too to compliment a burger and fries
N. L.
Chicken burger is killer. Tons of quality on these dirty burgers, but on the small side
C. M.
Visiting Sydney and Mary was recommended by hotel staff. It is very tiny and loud (so be aware of that) with super-limited seating.
That said, if you're looking for a good (cheese)burger, and a tasty mashed & gravy, this is the place to go.
Just be aware you may need takeaway instead of eating in, and you'll be good to go.
S. M.
I didn't particularly enjoy my burger. Didn't live up to the hype
M. P.
Somewhere inbetween McDonalds and Hungry Jacks in burger quality, so the $12 burger isn't worth it. Milkshake is decent.
S. N.
Get in, get the food and get back to whatever it is you where doing. Fast but absolutely delicious
c.
Great to be able to pop in and grab a Mary's burger if you're in the city, rather than cross town to settle cravings. Grab a cookie while you're at it and have a go on the SNES.
W.
Delicious food. City food outlet in Castlereagh st Sydney. Please feel free to click on like. Thanks
P. K.
Very busy during the week, you will spend 30+ minuets to get a burger. Not as good as the one in Newtown.
H. H.
Great Venue, Great Burgers.... what else do you need :)
A. L.
Best burger in Australia. Wait times can be long ish.
J.
Tasty af food. Friendly staff great music.
L. M.
Exactly what you crave when hung over and severely lacking grease. Burgers are top notch, chicken is a hard pass, but the sides are fantastic.
P. A.
Stoked to see the quality and charm of the OG Mary's Newtown pulled into the city. Yes to the double cheeseburger.
K. M.
Ok, so I received some rather rude service here. I'm not sure whether it's part of the brand, but it took me a little aback. I was, however, somewhat relieves when my order was misplaced and I was promptly given a full refund and received my meal for free. The guy behind the counter kindly apologised admitting his fault. He won some brownie points back for the business.
The burger was delicious, however, and I would go again... Maybe next time I'll notice an improvement in the service?
J. K.
Loved the food. Excellent
A. L.
good stuff but they need to make the condiments free of charge
J.
Fried chicken burger is amazing. Cheeseburgers are better versions of McDonalds.
D. H.
Really really good chicken delicious cookies (???) + most important: really nice, really good, good nice really good people.
V. M.
one of the best priced and true to original recipe burgers in the CBD, absolutely go to option for those mid week hangover boosts.
F. O.
Good juicy rich burgers. Can't be healthy though! Lol
C. B.
The best burgers in Australia 😊
S. C.
Hidden spot and a contender for the best burger in Sydney city centre
C. L.
Went here around lunch time but the wait wasn't too long for food. The downside is that it is only takeaway, you'd have to go to their newtown store for dine-in. The hype for these burgers was huge and it was kind of a let down. Their signature Mary's burgers came out disappointingly small and it was lacking some kind of wow factor. On the other hand, their chicken burger was way better and should've been their signature burger instead. The fries were disappointing, not worth getting it. However, their thick shakes are pretty good! We had the smokey maple one and it was a good choice!
W. S.
Good food and interior, but can barley sit down as chairs too short and tables too high. Taller chairs would be highly appreciated.
P. H.
food is nice but wait more than 30 mins
X. Z.
BEST STREET BURGER EVER IN SYD!!!
J. G.
Mary's burgers always deliver on quality. It's great knowing I don't need to trek out to Newtown just to get a Mary's hit.
A. D.
Great burger place 🍔❤️
v. s.
Love the burger here
S. O.
We ended up grabbing the wrong order when our number was called instead of the actual order, but we loved our shared chicken sandwich and fry. Great chx-burger, but we look forward to trying the Mary's burger (me) and the veg-burger (wife).
P. B.
Great venue good food and fast service. Midnight tea party were awesome
A. D.
This place had a funky feel. A standing waiting area. No seat down seating.
P. C.
Was a bit nervous after reading the reviews but food was good and we had a great time.
R. C.
For the people commenting who think McDonalds etc is better, I feel sorry for your taste buds.
A real burger is done with seasoning and flavors of butter/oil and herbs to create something different from what you're used to. McDonalds is fast for a reason. If you're complaining about greasiness then go to woolies and buy a 4 pack of patties and put them in the oven. Price? That's what happens when you eat out. That's life for you.
Hands down the best burgers I've ever had out. Flavour is on point. The chicken is kind of terrible though I am not going to lie. But my review is not based on that. Great burgers and keep it up.
M.
Sydney's hidden gem. Amazing atmosphere and exceptional food leaving you wanting more.
S. K.
Burgers are your classic faux American style. Simple, very greasy, full of flavour, and maybe a little overpriced.
L. R.
Amazing service, space, music and food. Everything was perfection ! Hadn't even left and I wanted to go back again 😁
A. T.
Good burger, loved playing contra😊
K. S.
Best burgers ever!💛
G. Q.
Excellent food, good service and good live music while we ate
K. L.
Beautiful burger! Mary’s is the best!!
L. W.
It’s near where I live
Tried it for the first time and craving for more
Omg the mash and grave is to die for !
Can’t wait to go back again tomorrow
Lifely ambiance
And staff are attentive to your every needs
I have literally spend an hour or so sitting there talking to the staff and gaming at the same time
Coincidently Mario Cart and street fighter was on
All time favourite
Win win !!! Wuhooo
Highly recommend if Yu like love burgers and chicken and mash gravy......and of course random conversation
A. W.
Love the food, love the style, love the music, Mary's Underground is simply the best.🤙😍
J. W. R.
I'm writing this from a neurosurgeons office, three weeks after I last had a burger from this joint, because it is so good it blew my mind. The surgeon thinks I'm a goner.
J. G.
Staff member Blake was extremely friendly and enthusiastic, the apple and ginger juice was almost better than the Mary's burger. Taste just as good as newtown, you just miss out on the newtown vibes.
S. Y.
The Mary's Chicken Burger. All other burgers on the menu are pretty average with the breakfast burger probably being the worst. The smoked maple milkshake tastes like smoked salmon. Won't let you double the chicken in the chicken burger - "It will fall apart". For real - just do it, wrap it up and let me pay for the consequences.
R. T.
Burgers are first class but fried chicken isn't as good as burger project.
B. D.
Great juicy burger after a beer
B. M.
All about the flavour, best burgers (and music) in Sydney.
E. M.
Chicken burgers are my favourite.
P. J.
Hard to go wrong with these burgers, unless you are on a budget.
Y. D.
Not as good as the OG Newtown Mary's
A. N.
$17 for a cheeseburger with bacon. I guess after reading the menu their concept of 'trashcan bacon' meant adding two slices of burnt, shriveled bacon to it.
I mean it's a Mary's Burger yes, but maybe have some pride with what you're serving.
H. O.
Can't go wrong with this city chain of the famous Mary's in Newtown. No dine in but it's ok, grab a Mary's, fries and a shake and enjoy them at Hyde Park, just around the corner.
P. S.
Awesome food, service, music and vidya
S. O.
Great burgers but a little expensive
N. S.
Amazing greasy, American-style cheeseburgers.
V. S.
One of the best burgers in Sydney.
M. B.
Ok so I took my 8 year old daughter here as a father's Day "dinner date". In hindsight it's probably not the most appropriate place to take an 8 year old... But damn those burgers were so tasty it didn't really matter!
We got to watch out names on the wall (not sure if this is encouraged or not), play some Donkey Kong on their old school SNES emulator, eat some ridiculously good burgers and overall had a great time.
It really is a hole in the wall and when arriving I thought the place was either closed or in the process of closing. No it's just dimly lit and small, but that adds to the charm and authenticity of the place.
My only regret is that their milkshake machine had recently passed away. I hear those milkshakes are not to be missed. I'll come back!
M. F.
Tasty dirty burgers!
J. C.
Best service I’ve had in a while
F. Y. (.
Hectic cheeseburger and chips love it...
C.
What a cool brand bar.
A. S.
Got the veggie burger. Was expensive and pretty ordinary. Chips were nothing to write home about.
S. H.
Shout out to Mary's CBD for there Awesome service, backed up with there quality signature CHICKEN & BURGERS.
D. X.
I actually really love the burgers and fried chicken here. Only reason why I gave it a 3 stars is I bought a Whole Bird and what I received was 4 drumsticks, 2 wings and 2 breasts. When I buy a 'whole bird' I kind of expect to receive a full bird, not bits from different birds considering its quite an expensive ($39) bird. I wasn't a huge fan of drumsticks too. The explanation I received was very average too. I suggest a change to the way this served for future reference. I still love the food here.
C. J.
Awesome burgers!
S. M.
The battle for best burgers in Sydney is always tough. Mary's presents an interesting take of southern chicken and American style burgers. Chicken is amazing, burgers are great but I find myself always comparing burger places to each others.. In this case they aren't my top 5.
Definitely try their delivery service or take a train, parking is horrible in the city. If you go, definitely get a burger chicken combo they are the best!
A. P.
Went there for a bite of the outrage people are saying this place is famous for. They only had exceptional burgers though, everything else was overblown. Took my friend Jesus too. He's an exchange student from Mexico and he wanted to try Sydney's best grub. He was cross about all this media coverage. Thinks it's people with too much time and not enough sense. He thinks they should turn the other cheek. I said 'Jesus, mate, you've nailed it'.
S. “. L.
Nice burger and atmosphere
H. B.
Wired vibe extremely long wait at the bar with akward service. Good music tho
C. T.
Great burgers!!! GET FAT!!
P. T.
Nice venue. Hard to hear live music due to restaurant table chatter.
E. T.
A bit exxy for food, but the jazz is bumping and the drinks are solid!
C. G.
Great vegetarian burgers!
D. K.
Damn good chicken burgers
E. R.
Delicious burgers!
L. “.
A much needed outpost from Newtown in the heart of the Sydney CBD. God bless you Mary’s ♥️🍔♥️
S. K.
Their ordering process is terrible, but the burgers are great!
M. B. (.
Super expensive burger. No justification for the cost.
A. S.
The best burgers in Australia!
K. H.
McDonalds-esk but with a grunge charm, Mary’s has great food and a lot of personality. Highly recommended, make sure you play Nintendo while you wait!
B. L.
Hard to find a better burger in Sydney.
M. C. (.
Sydney has a habit of allowing overpriced and underwhelming places to survive and thrive. A cheeseburger meal was $21. The burger was tasty and cooked med rare which I like but just not substantial enough as it is basically somewhere between a cheeseburger and a quarter pounder from that other place. The fries were light blonde and needed another minute or two in the frier to get them golden and crunchy. The best bit unfortunately for them was the self serve refillable drink. Save yourself the anguish and head to the healthy burger place nearby at least their's are filling.
K. S.
Burgers were AMAZING!!! 😍
C. G.
Great burgers...yum
K. H.
Great tasting burgers.
M. G.
Best burgers in Sydney! Shake shack level!
