The venue was buzzing when we went in for a Thursday lunch and man was it good! We had a selection of dishes that we shared which worked well and that way you get to taste everything, which I recommend because it is melt in your mouth delish! Stand out dishes for me were the Octopus croquettes (YUM!) 😋 and Italian Pie. Wowow. That “pie” was filled with so many delicious ingredients I went back for seconds. Staff were attentive and sweet. Thanks team! 😍 will definitely be coming back for a visit next time I’m in Sydney.

Amazing spot in the centre of the city. Such a great find!! I actually prefer it to it's sister restaurant in Rose Bay. Beautiful open and airy space with plenty of character. The food was really delicious and varied, very authentic! You can see the two big classy pizza ovens, which pump out some delicious options. The staff were very stylish and friendly. I'll certainly be back!

The experience is pretty much consistent with the one in Double Bay. Great service, food and wine. I have to give credit to the owner for taking a chance with the mozzarella bar menu. Everything dairy product is fresh and delivered daily and is beautifully matched. I've tried the ricotta with bresaola and it was divine. Couldn't resist the pizza menu and they were both fantastic: Gorgonzola and freierelli. Good selection of wines as well. Better to have a reservation as it gets pretty busy. Overall, a great experience and will come back to try other parts of the menu!

Great authentic Italian restaurant in the CBD. A bit expensive but high class. Pizza is stellar, tiramisu is great too. Service is impeccable! Must go. *Edit: they stopped baking pastries, including the best doughnuts I’ve found outside of Italy! Please reconsider bringing them back, even as an item you can purchase from the bar!

Overall Reccomended for dinner or a drink, this is a very versatile venue that would suit an intimate dinner or catch up with a group of friends. Service The service we received here for dinner was absolutely perfect, the rest of Sydney should take note. Fit Out Great fit out with a sophisticated vibe. Take your choice between a more intimate spot inside the restaurant, a spot in the bustling bar or in their outdoor area. Small issue with the majority of the plants in the outdoor area being dead... Food Tried a pizza and pasta with the food being good but not mind blowing and with average value for money but I would definitely eat here again. Drinks The wine list is extensive and well chosen but the mark up will make you blush a little if you know the cost.

Matteo's has probably the best pizza in Sydney! The dough is light and flavoursome and doesn't take away from the refreshing toppings. You can get away with a pizza each as it doesn't leave you with a heavy feeling afterwards. I recommend the burrata and calzone, the cheese is light and soft and illuminates the other flavours of the dish. The calzone is stuffed full of ricotta and salami, leaving every bite wanting more. The food came out quickly and the waitstaff were polite and cheerful.

A busy place for a Friday lunch. Interesting Italian menu with plenty of choices ranging from pizzas and pastas to the grill and seafood. The wine list is extensive and also has some interesting premium options served by the glass. My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly and the chips were nice. Unfortunately, the actual cut of meat wasn't great, which was really surprising at this price range. Staff was friendly but the waitress forgot about our side salad. When it finally came out, it was fresh and tasty. Overall a good experience, but to be honest, given the price range I'd expected something a bit more. There's plenty of interesting things on the menu though, so I'll probably come back and give them another go.

Gorgeous restaurant, I went there during the week, but was super busy for Christmas party I think, good service nice and kind staff, I just tried pizza and was really good, not much choice for vegetarian, but good place really. I was seating in front of the bar and the bartender with mustache was insane, all the time of my dinner he didn't stop for a second I was impressed he made a lot of cocktails without a break and all of them seemed amazing and good! I experienced Matteo Downtown for dinner on a week night with friends and I have to say it did not disappoint. From the cheeky cocktails, to the mozzarella appetizer, the grilled octopus, lamb backstrap, the pork ragu, and even the garden leaf salad...all were absolutely divine. I’ll have a hard time not wanting to order these same plates next time, but I’m excited to go back soon and explore more of the menu!

From the moment we walked in the door it felt like we were in a movie. Seated at the bar for cocktails prior to restaurant service commencing at 6pm with a live DJ playing, adding to the already on point ambience . Very much has the “it factor” with a slick, high quality decor. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Food came quickly and dishes were phenomenal. Highlights were the absolutely extravagant burrata, a sumptuous and delicate cacio e pepe risotto as well as a gelato bomba for dessert that was set alight before us. Will be returning as soon as possible, a delight.

Just under a month ago, I had visited Matteo Downtown for my birthday with my mother and some friends, and it's safe to say that there were some mishaps. I had posted a review after the meal detailing my experience. A day after I had posted my review, someone had contacted my mother directly about my review. They were very apologetic and were quick to try and rectify the situation. They then asked us back for another meal. I had felt that they had taken full responsibility for the situation so I removed my initial review. My mother and I did return for another meal this week, and I have to say, they really did outdo themselves. The customer service was excellent and every dish of food was cooked to perfection. They really did take care of us to the utmost best of their abilities. I wanted to take the time to write this review so that I can say thank you to those at Matteo Downtown that reached out to us, and to those that made our second meal really enjoyable. We will be back again!

I really liked the pasta here. The carbonara sauce was nice and not too creamy. The seafood marinara pasta sauce was also good and tasted more like seafood than tomatoes. The Margherita pizza was tasty and the bread was really nice. Service was friendly and professional. Atmosphere was lively and it was Tuesday night. Serving sizes were not large but they weren't tiny either. We shared our pasta and pizzas between 4 and wished the portions were more large.

I loved this restaurant, although as at April 2019 not that easy to find as it is tucked around the corner from George street in bond Street and the area is still a construction site. Very hard working as it is open breakfast to dinner. I didn’t have a reservation but I was happy to sit at a bar near the kitchen and watching the pizza being constructed was very entertaining. Service impeccable, food generous and delicious. Overall very professional.

Delicious food ! It’s been a long time I haven’t find a good Italian restaurant... until I tryed Matteo downtown! The quality ingredients are so fresh. The pizza base is great and taste good. That pasta are just divine and I really enjoyed the green olives that we had on side with our beautiful cocktails. Burrata is a much and finally fresh oysters too available. Can’t stop complimenting this place I will definitely go back and recommend it! Thanks to the cooks chefs who do great job with passion and thanks to the amazing and friendly service. Honestly this restaurant doesn’t deserve any bad reviews I don’t understand grumpy people ... I don’t usually post review but I thought it will be useful for someone who is looking for modern vibes in cbd center and great food ! Enjoy .

My partner & I really enjoyed our evening at Matteo Downtown. The food was delicious and we especially loved the prosciutto pizza. Food was okay and service was decent. The staff accommodated for our last minute increase in number of people. They weren't able to extend the tables as they apparently had other reservations so they just squeezed in more chairs which was fine. And when they turned up with one main the didn't match the order they were quick to return with the right dish. The only thing I was completely baffled about was that they charge a steep 10% surcharge for groups of 8 or more. Firstly I don't understand why larger group should be penalised as it means a bigger cheque for the restaurant. I understand corkage charge and holiday surcharge because both incur extra cost for the restaurant in some way. But I couldn't think of anything special they did for our table of 9 that they wouldn't do for a table of 2: seat guests, serve water, take order, serve order, refill water, clean up table, give guests the bill, which are all basic restaurant services. Are they worried that 8 people will shared 1 main and take up their space for no income? But that could happen with small groups all the same, so why? Secondly , I would have rather the staff advised us of the surcharge upon arrival or at least point out the fine print about the surcharge on the menu to our attention when giving us the menu. Majority of people would be too embarrassed to leave once they are seated so it's captive audience by then, but even that beats finding out when you finish your meal and went to pay your bill because you have absolutely no room to change your mind to go to a restaurant that don't have steep surcharge at that point. The restaurant manager and staff were reasonable enough to refund the surcharge when we questioned it, but it just left a sour taste for our group after a decent meal.

Start with the good..the service was awesome, the starters were great, the pasta was amazing....just sad the pizza was the limpest most sadly undercooked pizzas (yes two) I have had for a while...still good flavour but clearly the ovens don’t start early enough (lunch on Friday we were there). Still worth going as the rest was great but I would recommend sending pizza back if it comes out a limp as ours did...just did not expect such laziness at the end of a great meal and service.

We had a good dinner at Matteo Downtown: the antipasto plate was interesting, even if it was strategically placed in many different plates to make it look bigger. The pizzas were really tasty as well as the service even if we only saw our server when she took the order and then she never checked back on us. The runners were trying to check on us even if they were not aware of our order or whatsoever. A friend ordered a simple capricciosa but he got charged for a Margherita with extra ham and extra mushroom which is a bit unfair I believe. It’s like charging for a glass of Prosecco, a shot of Aperol and a glass of soda water when ordering a Spritz. We had a good time and we enjoyed food and atmosphere! I would definitely come back for that pizza!

Beautiful venue, impeccable service, friendly staff. I really enjoyed the spritz I had as an aperitivo. For dinner, we had the special, ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta served with sage and butter. Really enjoyed this dish, tasted traditional and the pasta was freshly made in the house, thick and al dente as I like it. We also had pizza and I was disappointed with this one. It's Neapolitan style, but not truly neapolitan I thought. The dough was not very elastic and had a sweet taste that shouldn't be there. Good place for work dinners

Outstanding dining experience at Downtown Matteo during our visit to Sydney. The food was unique and delicious, we have enjoyed fine Italian cuisine in many foodie cities around the world, and I would place Downtown Matteo as the best I have enjoyed. The Knowledgeable and friendly staff, really made the experience even more memorable. They expertly adapted the menu meal for my wife’s food allergies. They provided great descriptions of the food and wine parings that piqued our appetite. Their recommendations were superb. The wine parings were wonderful. The Fusilli “Cartoccio”, Fergola(with Saffron infused pork sausage ragu), Capricciosa pizza, Tiramisu and Giandujotto(Chocolate hazelnut Gianduja bavarese) are to die for! I recommend Downtown Matteo for superb Italian food in a great atmosphere with friendly 5 star service !

I've now been to Matteo Downtown multiple times both with small and large groups and every time the food has been exceptional and the service perfect. The pizzas are fantastic and, as a pescatarian, dishes like the straciatella with prawn crudo from the Mozzarella Bar (one of the best entrees I've ever had) and the trio of crudo, as well as the squid ink fregola, are perfect for me and beyond tasty. The fish is also fantastic. The desserts are to die for, in particular the caramello, but now having tried all of them I can say that you can't go wrong whatever you choose. Looking forward to my next meal there!

Perfect spot for a drink or coffee meeting in town. It’s strange because the bar area isn’t super large and always seems to be just about full...but there’s always space for you to grab a table and chair. Before even entering the venue I was impressed. Having a child, it's so convenient having a carpark directly opposite the restaurant. Beautiful fitout with unique/funky artwork; and you can tell the furniture and decor is of high quality. I loved the attention to detail too, plates with matteo DT signature and Italian poetry playing in the bathrooms. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful having a large pram and requring space for both pram and high chair. The cocktails were delicious, fresh and original. The food is generous and moreish. Loved the whole experience. Will definitley be back.

Matteo Downtown, you have really gone to town. I was blown away when entering the first time - the dècor, art and vibe - Downtown literally lights up Bond Street. The restaurant interior matches the standard of service, ambiance and drinks (including the awesome wine list). Don’t be fooled by me mentioning it last because it is the main reason why I keep coming back... the food is SENSATIONAL! More refined than sassy little sister, Matteo Double Bay, I have eaten at Downtown numerous times at all times of day and I believe the love and effort put into the food can be tasted in every mouthful. Came to Downtown today after recieving an email for free coffee.... Beautiful venue and set-up - delicious coffee, made exactly how i like. The service was amazing and although the place was very busy (free coffee) the english, blonde barista took the time to exchange a smile and a friendly chat. Will 100% be returning! Friendly staff, and I love the cappuccinos. They even heated up my croissant the other day. A nice, airy european vibe. Love the Santa Vittoria glasses to enjoy some water while dining in. A great place to do some business and life planning in the cafe area. And is Apple Macbook friendly on the bar stools area as you walk in - especially with the communal space. A nice place to do a bit of (yes, productive) work if you have half an hour to spare on your way to the office, and you're in the mood for coffee. So close to home to for me too, I love it. I made a reservation at Matteo a week earlier than the day we dined for 5 for breakfast. On the day we arrived they didn’t have any indoor seating in their ‘breakfast’ area so sat us outside. It was cold and the heaters didn’t have gas so couldn’t be turned out. We then asked to move inside. The host grumbled a bit as he had to seat us in his ‘restaurant’ which is apparently only reserved for lunch and dinner. Once ordered our food took over 45mins to arrive. We just preferred poached eggs with avocado and salmon. The poached eggs looked like they had been poached in a microwave and the salmon fishy. Not once was our water topped up and confident they only started cooking our breakfast when we followed up. Really disappointing service and will not return.
