NYE diner at Salt Meats Cheese, well it was not bad but it was not great either, food quantity was there, generous… especially with anything doughy, focaccia, pastas. Some dishes were really good, some just average, i think they forgot the dressing on our tuna carpaccio and 300g of almond as a starter for 2 ? geezus, no one can finish that. The rest was good and tasty so all ok, we got to get up on the roof to watch the fireworks, was a bit crowded up there we both were masks and the view was bot that great. Overall it was ok just a bit pricey for what we got to enjoy.

Everything is delicious. The pizza is authentic Italian. Lots of different toppings with fresh ingredients. We had the vegetariana, the bresaola (without bresaola, but still worth it) and the truffle pizza. The gnocchi with gorgonzola were not my favorites as I do like to see them drowing in gorgonzola, but that is just my taste. The actual dish was very tasty. The saffron arancini were superb: juicy and crunchy, the complementary sauce was a perfect match (to lick the plate!) Truffle fries, just perfect!! So, so good! Everything. Seriously. The tiramisu slice was an actual big portion (not the classic 2 teaspoons worth of tiramisu in a glass). There was an initial misunderstanding due to a website error about their all you can eat options (which we thought we booked, but it was not available at their location). But we were lucky enough to deal directly with the locations manager, who solved the problem quickly, in a professional and friendly manner. Definitely coming back.

Had the most amazing experience here! Planned my sister’s hens night with the team and they really made it a night to remember. We did the cocktail class followed by dinner and then drinks at Bar ombré. Everything was amazing from the food to the drinks and also the staff. I had high expectations for this restaurant, but they weren't really met. This place is fine, however the hype was such that I was disappointed with *fine*. It seemed basic and overpriced. For example, the rocket salad had granular parmesan, like the kind that is sold for 99c a packet on the shelf next to the pasta at Coles. It should have been shaved onto the top. They glaze tasted like it came from a bottle. The pizza was underwhelming. The dough was nice but the toppings were not that flavourful. The dough, just on its own, was probably the best part of the meal. Also, the food took a very long time and there was basically no one in the restaurant.

Amazing food and amazing gnocchi! Came here for the half kilo gnocchi special for $35. Enough to feed 3 with all its tomato and cheesy goodness. This restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere perfect for a dinner after work with excellent and timely service and attentive staff. The pizzas here are a must try in addition to the wide variety of cheeses on offer.

Stumbled upon a great place for pizza upstairs in the Gateway. We were lucky to get a table without waiting - right during the vivid festival. The service was also friendly and prompt. The truffle pizza was delicious, and I loved their lemon meringue cocktail, which unfortunately was only a vivid special. Hopefully they make it part of the regular menu!

Seated by the kitchen, we were given the opportunity to see that the chefs worked with a high level of professionalism and commitment to providing outstanding meals to the customers. The timing between receiving our entree and main meals was perfect. The standard and quality of food was impeccable, we could not fault it. One very minor criticism is that the wait for our drinks was unexpectedly slow as it did not appear to be very busy at the bar. Regardless of this, we would highly recommend this restaurant. Standout meal was the grilled octopus. The flavours were incredible!

Always fantastic! This was my 2nd visit. Food is exceptional! The octopus terrine is a must! The lamb ragu was decadent and the highlight of the meal. Bit disappointed that the pizza we wanted was unavailable... I'll have to come again to try it. We had the chorizo pizza instead - we found the sauce very salty. Maybe the sauce wasn't stirred enough? Service was friendly and had no real dramas dispite being very full!

25 minutes passed before receiving our entree which was the wrong dish. We then waited another 5 minutes for our correct entree (salt and pepper squid with battered zucchini) which was an extremely scabby serving size for the price, however, it was tasty. We continued to wait a further 25 minutes for our mains which were both delicious. The food and service was great but the waiting times (50min for 3 dishes) were frustrating considering it was only 5pm and not busy at all.

I've been here a few times and have had a brilliant experience each time. Definitely one of my favourite places. Food is amazing, delicious, awesome to share so you can try different things. We came here on a Wed night for the Flamin’ Cheese Pasta special. The theatrics of it was a novelty and the dish looked appealing. After several bites of the pasta, it became quite overwhelming because of its richness and creaminess. We had to order the Meatballs entree to break up the creaminess and also for added protein as there was no meat in the pasta. The Meatballs were very tasty! The tomato sauce was sweet and sour, perfectly accompanied by the thin strips of toasted bread. Yum!! Worth a try if you’ve never had this before.

WOW! Wish I discovered this restaurant earlier. I LOVED the super truffle bros mushroom pizza, incredible. So much flavor from the mushrooms and truffle. The Foccacia Bread entree took me by surprise, it was spectacular, the garlic butter was very aromatic and complimented the bread nicely. The Pescatora prawn pizza was lovely, refreshing. Good service too! I had a fantastic experience and would recommend dining here.

Enjoyable dining in modern setting. The Gateway at Circular Quay is a relatively new, mid- to upscale dining precinct directly adjacent to the harbour. The area is notorious for poor quality tourist traps, or very high-end dining (and price tags to match). This is what makes the Gateway and Salt Meats Cheese (SMC) in particular a very welcome breath of fresh air. There are a number of SMC restaurants around doing a fun selection of Italian pizzas and pasta, cocktails, wine and beer. This particular restaurant has plenty of tables, you could easily come here with a large group. However, it's also suitable for couples or even solo dining. The service was friendly, fast and the prices are reasonable for quality and area. Considering the name, you might be surprised to find great vegan options at SMC. If you're visiting Sydney, catching a show at the Opera House or planning a nice night out, Salt Meats Cheese is recommended.

My partner and I attended their Pizza Making class. It was loads of fun, and the instructor was lovely. It was a bit hard to hear him from the very far end of the table, and we didn’t receive our recipe cards until nearly two weeks after our class, but it was a good time.

I liked the atmosphere in this restaurant. Lucy, our server, was great. She was rushed off her feet because they were short on help, but we wouldn't have known if we hadn't been told on our way out. The food was average, and maybe slightly overpriced for the portion size. I'm not convinced any of it was cooked (made) on site. The arancini (all three of them) were identical, nice crispy, though lacking in oomph. The lamb ragu didn't have much flavor, but the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. If it weren't for Lucy, I'd be posting a much different review. She was amazing. She had time for us, chatted, smiled. What a treat!

Awesome discovery: last week we went to Salt Meats Cheese in Circular Quay to have some drinks and it's a really cool place, in one of the best locations in Sydney. Cheap beers, tasty food and super friendly staff. Up in the rooftop you can see the Harbour Bridge and the top of the Opera House, and when it gets dark the environment is fantastic. There is also a cover in case it rains. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back!

The service here was so good . We stayed until way after they closed but we were never rushed. The staff made it quite clear that we were to stay as long as we wanted, and the pizza maker( is there an official name for this?) came to the table to ask if my friend enjoyed it. We had the bottomless lunch which was great. The staff were very attentive and regularly filled up our glasses, I think my glass was only empty one or twice over the two hours. The only thing that isn’t great is the two hours of bottomless drinks starts from the time of your booking not the time you order the bottomless drinks which I found a little cheeky as it took us 15 minutes to be seated, look at the menus and work out what everyone was doing before we ordered and received our first drinks. Nevertheless, we had a great time and will definitely go back.

As SMC regulars at Circular Quay, my husband and I have always had a very good experience here. Today they set the bar even higher when it comes to good customer service. The new waitress Lily, took very good care of us and our requests. Also the manager from the Bar Ombre , personally came to ensure we were happy with our Diavola pizza and truffle gnocchi and even invited us to check out the Bar 🙂(next time for sure!!!!) We came here a month ago , celebrating me securing a new job - with lip smacking, flavour loaded pizza and deliciouso Tiramisu! Definitely the best wood fire pizzas we have had in the city! Planning it was made easy by the staff, and they were very accommodating and made the guest of honour feel so special. The food was incredible and the rooftop vibes where so lively and fun. Lovely place located at Gateway in Circular Quay. We ordered antipasto plates, pizzas and pastas. One of their specials was Cheesy Wheel Pasta which was prepared right infront of us. The staff were very good, attentive, warm and professional. The only let down was, we were served with someone else's order! We already ate about half of it before they told us that, it wasn't ours! They didn't let us pay for those, but that was a big 'No!'.

Food very good but very typical contemporary Italian fare... Nothing special. Service time was quick. Antipasto was great. Pizza was very underwhelming and the pasta/tomatoe base was too sweet. Aprerol spritz was also very weak! To much soda or not enough Aperol. Wait staff were very friendly and fast even though they dropped a dish! Price was expensive for what you got but cheap compared to the central CBD location. Overall I would say it is worth a visit if you can't choose but I wouldn't seek it out.

I visited with my father roughly a month ago and we were so impressed that I had to bring my partner back this weekend. Quick phone call to book a table and then greeted with some of the friendliest staff I've encountered at a restaurant for a while. They were knowledgable on their wines and suggested the perfect red to accompany their absolutely incredible pizza. Sydney is blessed with so many great places to eat, but Salt Meats Cheese would easily be in my top 5 places to eat here.

Had the pleasure of dining at Popina (now SMC) for NYE 2017 with the husband and was so glad we did. The rooftop had great views of Sydney Harbour skyline and Harbour Bridge which was great for watching fireworks. That was just the icing on the cake. The food was lovely so tasty and fresh. It was simple but the taste was divine. We had a degustation menu which included wood fired Lebanese bread and hummus, falafel, tuna ceviche with shaved watermelon, snapper with kidney beans, gnocchi and buffalo mozzarella on tomato cream sauce. Headed here for lunch with colleagues! Various orders ranging from pizzas, pasta to salads! Food came out pretty quick. Flavour of the pizzas were pretty good too. The Divalo pizza was great! Really good flavour. Slightly critical on the lightness of the dough and it seemed to be a whole meal flour base perhaps. No one complained about the food. Sadly the review score was rated 1 star lower than it should have been as one of the waitresses literally ‘rolled her eyes’ when we asked for the bill. The gesture was not masked in any way from her. Unsure why!! Such a poor way to finish what was a lovely meal with ok service. It’s sad too see wait staff letting down good experiences
