Comments of The Bavarian York St.
R. I.
Great location. And great beer. A good place if you want something other than the regular tap beer at yoir local.
Food is pub food but of a good quality and everything tastes fresh and clean.
I like the table service at the moment, means no need to line up like a pleb. Bring me dem beers, yeah, that's where the flavour is at!
K. C.
Came here after seeing the marketing ad for $10 schnitzel fest. Unbelievable value for money meals. The portion size was massive and chicken well seasoned. Staff were very courteous and the place is comfy enough for an after work drink.
R. U.
Honestly don't come here for anything other than beer. Although has a seemingly exotic menu, the food just tasted horrible and not special. Burgers was a huge disappointment also, nothing special. Only positive was excellent potato chips and beer, would rather go to the nearby Maccas for food though... great bar to chill
J. U.
Love the $10 Schnitzel deal they've got going. Not a bad place for some Bavarian food and a German beer. The platters are pretty nice but a tad pricey. The vibe is more sports bar than Bavarian beer hall which tends to lack character give the venue a bit of sterile feel.
K. C.
Good value for money. Have come here a number of times before and always felt the food and drinks were well priced. You can order via an app on your table, but we did the $25 All you can eat meat and cheese platter, so we had to pay at the counter. Beers and wines were generous as was rh all you can eat platter. Quality was better than I expected, we went through 3 platters between the three of us, so that wasn't a bad effort.
R. H.
Had dinner in this place. The food was good and they have lots of beers to choose. The best part is their pretzel donut. It is must order if you are here. The venue itself is good, but it was way too loud especially with the live band/singer at the time. The waitress was awesome and remembered all the drinks that we ordered and can easily reorder again. If the music wasn't too loud, I would give it 5 stars easily.
R. T.
May21: Still good. Nearly full on a Wednesday night perhaps the $10 schnitzel specials were drawing people in.
Jan21: The service was efficient and the chicken Parmigiana tasted good except sauerkraut or salad would be charged $8 which is quite deal. And there is a surcharge for paying by card or PayPal.

Awesome food and drinks. This is my favourite place in Sydney

We scan the barcode on the table and the menu pop up on our phone. We ordered some dishes and really love their Crispy Pork Belly Bun (the bun was very soft, combined with the crunchy pork belly and sauce!). We also enjoy their Famous Crispy Pork Knuckle (very crispy and juicy) and Cos Salad with chicken schnitzel (unfortunately, the chicken schnitzel is too blend, I only can taste the oil). Don’t forget to try their Haus Made Apple Strudle - it’s very yummy! Overall, we have a good dinner and good service. Will revisit again next time.

Honestly one of the best casual dining experiences I've had, especially post covid. We made a mistake with our booking time and they very thoughtfully squeezed us in, no questions asked. The staff were so attentive the whole time. The food came out fast, hot and fresh and the drinks were cold and strong. Not to mention the live band. Will be back very soon
A. Z.
Great mango beer and bar snacks! We ordered a good variety including some juicy fried chicken, hot chips, pretzels, salt & pepper squid as well as mozza balls! I also loved that each of these sides came with sauce.
J. H.
The pretzel was piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The meat platter came with a variety of different cuts and all of them were so tasty and fresh, I felt like I was in Germany again! A particular call out to the chicken schnitzel. Additionally I’m not normally a dessert person however the apple strudel was delicious, the pastry was so flakey and delicate.

What an amazing German Restaurant/Bar with such a lovely vibe on Saturday evening. We are just passing by and heard a Live German Band performing there which made us to visit and have few German Beers. We ordered the German Beer Puddle with 4 different beers(Spaten, Löwenbrau Original, Hofbrau Original, Hofbrau Dunkel). All those 4 beers are so good in taste. We ordered Chicken wings with Hot Buffalo Sauce served with Salad and Cheesy dip. Services are so good, waitresses are so friendly. They have Live Band performances on every Saturdays. Must visit bar with so many German things to try.
M. M.
Love the atmosphere, concept, food and drink selection. The fit-out is fabulous as well!!!
We had one to the two person sharing platters and it was more than we could eat. The schnitzel was incredible, such a great crumb!
You can see from the photos the interior is just part of the experience. There is bar seating, booths and tables, all fabulous!!!
Strong recommend from me.
J. D. U.
Great pub for a Friday evening drink
T. M.
Tasty classic amercanised and german food. I ordered the chicken palmy, and couldn't finish it. Portions are huge. The chips were flavoured with dried herbs. They were really nice there i accidentally spilt my drink, smashed the glass over the table and they never charged me for it. Pricing is adequate for the value you receive. Easy to book a table online a great central location
V. L.
Food was good, large portions.
On this visit the menu app to order food was playing up so our order was not captured.
Got there in the end though
G. M.
No complaints, the waitress and waiters were amazing and very quick. Will come again!!! Woohoo
M. C.
When you order a simple beer using MeAndU, it just takes sooo long that it’s almost like they’re brewing the beer themselves. Plus I got a spider in my shirt as soon as I got in. Good environment otherwise.
S. c. (.
Great spot for a German beer, boutique beer or even a wine or cocktail. We were here to watch a boxing match and they dealt with the crowd well. Plenty of food on the menu too, pretzels, burgers, schnitzels and even make your own salads.
J. O.
Pretty good place if you like to have some good bar food, and a good amount of beer to follow that meaty dish! But I think the place tends to get a bit noisy, so if you are looking for intimate spaces, this might not be a good place for it. That said, it's a very energetic and vibrant place for people who enjoy such atmospheres! Service was also pretty good!
H. W.
Beerhaűs offers a sweet happy hour (4-6pm) deal! $5 for 0.5L beer and free bites (wings, chips and popcorn). Remeber to get a coupon when ordering your drinks, to get the bites. It's quite a large space, so it's generally not too crowded during happy hour. You can order drinks at the bar (generally faster) or you can sit and wait for a waiter to attend to your order.
R. S.
Beautiful location, great people and absolute pleasure to dine in. The music and performances are amazing. Beyond that, the food and drinks are of top quality! Cheers!
D. N.
I have had the pleasure of dining and Drinking at the Bavarian York Street pre and post Covid lockdown. The food has always been amazing, especially the Schnitzel nom nom 😛 and the staff have always serviced me with a smile. A special mention to the Brazilian girl who I think is a Manager named Flavia. Her smile is infectious and has always made me feel like more than a customer, I feel like a long lost family member. She's amazing, like the rest of the team so get your drinking shoes and go there with a healthy appetite cause you won't be dissapointed.
B. (. B.
Wow what an upgrade, totally loving it.. It's like a man cave right in the middle of the City! ...tots check it out. Enjoy the long happy hours! Extended till 7pm!... Honestly good job guys. 😊😇👌Check out the photos. It was one entertaining grand opening.
M. M.
Great pub, heaps of German beers on tap and sport on the telly. Daily food specials, giant pretzels and good bar style chicken wings.
F. B.
Great atmosphere! Gluten free sausages, you can design your own salad! Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Staff very helpful and friendly.
F. N.
Was great place vibrant culture and high vibe all over the place .great beers . And plesurable shuddering bell ring over serving shots. Of course not a place for relax but excitement ...
C. -.
Food was nice, we got the platter for 2 and it’s more than enough food. Price is a bit expensive for what it is but I guess in the city that’s expected. Beer is cheap! Probably wouldn’t come back just because food isn’t that amazing. Good service!!
B. l.
Like going back to Bavaria. Great selection of German beers and the sharing plates give a great selection of Bavarian specialties. Sausages are outstanding as you would expect. Decent prices and servings are large so share unless you are really hungry!
D. B.
It's a happy place, one of the most popular pubs in the city. They have good variety of drinks. Food is ok. Service is good. It's usually very crowded and you better reserve a table before hand.
J. M.
Delicious and well portioned food for the money and being smack in the middle of the CBD. Beer selection is OK.
C. P.
Service was fantastic and a good burlesque show! Food wise, average but can do with further improvement. Disappointed with the sausages and could have grilled the sausages instead of just pure boiling/steaming.
M. S. I.
Cool place to Hang Around. Very good service and yummy food. Make sure to online for happy hour promotions.
D. C.
I don't really like beer but the free snacks at happy hour were nice, although limited, there's a mounted Spotify player. Delicious snacks nonetheless.
D. H.
Overpriced for the lack of service. Great food and beers, but the QR Code ordering system doesn't give a good customer experience. Sure it's a nice app, but it forces each device to pay per-order. You can't just add things to the table and pay at the end, so splitting the bill is a pain. Or everyone on the table has to sit on their phones for a while looking at the menu items, and order / pay separately, which is inconvenient as some things are share plates. Also missed opportunities for staff to upsell things when no staff member taking your order. IMO you go to a restaurant and pay a premium to be served, or you pay a cheaper rate for less service (like take away). This ordering system makes the staff complacent, they don't check on tables or interact with customers, they stand around chatting at the pass or in the bar, waiting for the app to drop an order in. Unfortunately no German beer hall vibe here, which is a shame.
K. S.
Nice place, good range of beers, and is generally. Food has generous portions but despite that I still overpriced. Come here for beers, and not necessarily for nibbles.
Has a very commercial, “Starbucks” of beers feel to it, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
The place is usually busy during all evenings. We could not overlook how slow the stuff was with attending to us on arrival and sorting out pre-booked seating. Hence, 4⭐️ only
D. H.
Great food and beer, especially during happy hour. Nothing beats the flavour of a five dollar pint with chicken wings for a buck. Deliciously authentic buffalo sauce as well.
Great atmosphere and staff that are just the right level of attentiveness. Recommended 👍🏻
A. T.
Nice menu selection.
Friendly staff.
Great 2 person band playing nicely.
J. C.
It was great to be back!Best beers , can never get over it.Enjoyed the evening and thanks for the amazing Oktoberfest experience.
Y. D.
Pleasant place to sit and talk. Also you can get a food and drinks. Probably not the best choice if you want to have a calm and nice dinner, but this place more for hoiden company. Get a German sausages! Take a glass of beer!
A. C.
Love their chicken wings.
Perfect combo for my margarita.
R. P.
Beerhaus is a very chilled out place to have german beers. They offer free snacks between 4 - 6. They are located very close to wynyard station. Mango weisbier was refreshing and must try during summers. They also have pay at table service which gives you $5 off per order which i think was a very great deal.
Do register for their membership on payment of 10$ which gets you a Beerhaus keychain, extended happy hours, free pretzel and first drink at discounted prices..
R. N.
This is one of the best Beerhaus's in Sydney. Usually busy so you might end up sitting at the bar which is not too bad but won't be as comfortable as resturant seats.
Service is good and staff are nice.
Beer and pork knuckle are perfect as you would expect.
G. L.
Awesome place to hang out with friends/colleagues. The beer jugs we're huge serving 500ml.
The happy hour price is very convenient.
The best part was that they serve free snacks during the happy hour.
A. M.
Very decent food, good customer service. Place is very quiet at lunch time.
J.
• Big beers, great range and price.
• Great food (taste and quantity) and good service considering how busy it was (after 5PM on a weekday and happy hour).
• Make sure you reserve seats of you want a decent spot to sit.
G. J.
Good food. Booked a reservation using dimmi and got a 50% discount off the bill. Great for team lunch!
h.
Really like this place. Not cheap, but have always had good experiences.
The "Bavarian Tasting Platter" is great for those that can't make up their minds.
D. H.
Such a good time. We had cider, beers, sausages, and schnitzel. A great environment for some good fun.
R. Y.
Chicken breast was a bit dry.
Smoked pork belly was very nice, though I would have preferred crispy skin pork belly.
The lighting too weak, I couldn't visually distinguish fat from muscle. (see photos)
Too loud! I had to shout across a table for two to be heard. Didn't want to sit outside because of cigarette smoke.
Good food, but we escaped asap after finishing.
L. G.
Really good place in Sydney to get some beer and eat good food. Quality beer and quality food for very good price. Portions are huge.
R. M.
Awesome bier haus for happy hour CBD drinks ($5 beers and $1 chicken wings)... definitely check out the Bavarian if you're around York St. Do note that the place can get super crowded and staff can ask if you have a reservation as they'd prefer you to eat there but you can normally get a table before 6pm without a bother.
M. M.
The monday special is awesome!!! All you can eat meat for $39 perfect for a meat eater and yes.. value for money!! Theres crispy pork belly (soo good) .. 3 different kind of sausages, bbq chicken wing, snitzel, potato mash, sauerkraut, pretzel roll, red cabage and granny smith apple compote.
S. K.
Nice place for drink and fries are reasonably good. Slightly overcrowded and the tables are not cleaned properly (they are sticky)
N. O.
Great atmosphere with wide selection of beer, tasty Bavaria hotdogs with fries 😋
A. R.
After having a bad start to the night at another Beer Cafe, Bavarian Beer Cafe was a delight, although we had to wait a little while
for a table, we were seated and orders were taken, food was served very quickly, good atmosphere, worth visiting.
Great Beer and friendly service..
S. K.
One of the place to have drink in Sydney. Good vides, easily accessible, good choice of drink and food which is not expensive considerating they are located in city and friendly staff. Would love to see more German beer in their menu. Will visit them again and highly recommend.
N. E.
Food was great. Ambience is lacking big time. We've been to a few German Restaurants and all have been pretty authentic. This place was nothing like an authentic German Restaurant. Music was like being at a 90's rave. Where's the 3 German dude's playing the zither? I'm all for the ordering your meal and paying through your phone so you don't have to talk to anyone, but they ask for a tip before your meal arrives!! What am I tipping? The chick litterally walked us to our table and said "scan this on your phone to order your food." Then walked away. Seriously, they want us to tip that? No dice. Anyway, when it reopens, try the German place at the Rocks, there, my friend, you'll find a little slice of Germany.
M. F.
Terrific food, always a treat after work
F. “. L.
Friendly crew, good location. Awesome happy hour, really good German beer! Really good looking food( sadly couldn't try it). Great place to meet some friends for a beer. Easy to find.
E. F.
Good pretzels and good beer... not sure about the food, didn't have the chance to try anything else
S. F.
Cheap wings and drinks during happy hours. Craft beers were good but a little sweeter than I prefer. I enjoyed the authentic pretzel and really enjoyed the crisp and delicious wings, especially for $1 each during happy hour.
I absolutely recommend and will probably return before I leave Sydney
S. M.
Cool place beer tasting paddles are preset to, two options which are all domestic beer we have had before. Food abd beer options overall looked good
L. C.
Good food and well priced. We went the shared plate for $75 between two of us and we could not finish it. Great selection of beer as you would expect.
k. s.
Nice place for evening beer !! Bit crowded though. Had a great time with my mates. Giant 1 litre beer mugs are amazing.
M. H.
Good beer and food. Poor 90mins table reservation system.
K. T.
Popular venue for awesome Bavarian bier and cuisine, have gladly spent a couple of birthdays here to celebrate! Recommend the tasting plates, the garlic and chili mussels and of course the mango bier!!!
V. M. T.
BIG beer which should be the standard in Australia, tasty food to ... and the price not to bad.
T. E.
A truly wonderful meat fest. Huge selection of beers. Service was excellent. Why not go a "metre of Schnapps" after your meal?
B. L.
Great food, great beer, staff were happy and helpful. An awesome night.
B. M.
Tristan was awesome. Dealing 12 of us on a bottomless dinner was difficult but he made it fun and enjoyable for all. Recommend!!!
J. C.
Great dark beer in a authentic feeling environment. Service was quick despite the lunch rush. Food was delicious but don't kid yourself that it is healthy! Everyone in our small party enjoyed it, only complaint was loudness due to so many hard surfaces. Plan to visit again for a treat.
B. W.
Brilliant food, great service, awesome vibe.
B. K.
Crowded and loud on a Friday after night but the food and schnapps are fabulous!
D. R.
It is great! Never disappointed with their service and the high standard of their products. I have known and enjoyed this place for a long time.
J. L.
Quality food, friendly customer service and good music. The place looks beautiful and is very well decorated from inside. The live band entertained us cheerfully with their songs in different languages. I liked the chicken but the pork seemed a bit oily. The customer service was very fast. Will definitely come again.
E. W.
Lovely pub/restaurant with authentic Bavarian feel.
G. H.
Awesome food and beer selection as expected from The Bavarian chain.
They have this beacon on the table that lets you order with just a phone tap, which is great for introverts 😅
A. J.
I have eaten at beerhaus numerous times. The staff here is so nice and very attentive, even on Friday nights when it's super busy. The food is delicious, the schnitzels are big but very good. I would highly recommend this place. It's great for big groups or even a quick lunch during the week.
J.
Great food, drinks and service :)
D. G.
Stopped for a quick happy hour beer. Ended up having a meal.
Great selection of beers in proper sizes! Had the sausage platter for one and it was fantastic. Huge portion, lovely mash, sauerkraut and red cabbage. Amazing pork and the schnitzel was fantastic (tasted like it was actually cooked in butter rather than just dip fried). Giant pretzel was great. Between two of us this was a filling meal but was so good you would just keep eating!
F. B.
Lots of beer selection and good range of food options, but seem to be severely understaffed both out the front and in the kitchen. Drink orders are slow to get taken and today our food (a wrap) took 55mins to arrive. Would recommend if you weren't in a rush...
r. b.
A seismic combination of beer and good food. If you like big serving both on your plate and in your glass, this is a place to be. We had Dunkel and the usual lager and the famous crackling pork belly. Delicious, right price and great portions. Staff is polite, humble, accommodating and helpful. Great place to visit for a Friday night.
E. F. C.
Amazing and cheerful atmosphere, in a rustic and cozy wooden environment. Meals are massive, so there is no chance to leave hungry. The service was very friendly and considerate, specially at the bar, as the bartender helped me select and let me taste different beer options, as well as a nice german 'schnapps' for dessert. Now that I found it, I am definitely coming back often.
B. M.
Eaten here for lunch a few times with groups of work colleagues. There is always loads of space for groups to be seated, without requiring a prior booking. Food is affordable and large servings. There are also daily specials, such as 1 for 1 schnitzels on Tuesdays. Overall, a reliable lunch option.
D. J.
We did a team mid week lunch and it's still quiet (Covid), so was great. The ordering system is well suited to individuals ordering but would have preferred a tab for the table.
A. F.
Wonderful place with amazing servers! I wouldn't recommend the app unless they are packed and understaffed. Great food and delicious beer at an (Australian downtown) reasonable price.
They have daily specials on food too. And sports tvs. Honestly the staff is what makes that place amazing and stand out over others. Seriously, go and see for yourself.
A. N.
Came here in October, to order food and pay was contactless which was great (Co-vid)
Delightful atmosphere, however just one staff was quite rude, she slammed our plates (not sure why?) on the table, serving napkins angrily, and when we thank her for the food her expression was bleak and no response.
.. we were being quite polite and assumed she had a bad day.
R. “. D.
Good food and the membership extended happy hour is awesome. Nice location and decor in the building. Only let downs some staff were hard to hear plus understand and our food took nearly 45 mins to come out.
A. “. J.
Absolutely love the pork belly and sausages here. The atmosphere is great as well and there is live music from time to time. A recent renovation has managed to capture the mood just as well as the previous set up. If you can book in advance do so but I've always rocked up and the staff were super accommodating even when the place was packed. Highly recommended!
N. M.
Perfect place to have some good fun, many choices of foods and drinks. Been there for past three weekends. Loved it.
J. H.
Awesome atmosphere, great to hang out with friends
O. V.
Amazing food and great service. The portion sizes are huge, we ordered tasting plate for one and it was enough for two hungry people. And leave a place for deserts as they are also tasty .
Very good selection of beers to taste
The place is kids friendly with good kids menu.
D. M.
Love this place. Seriously a lot of beers on offer there, so well worth it for a drink. We went and had the chicken wings with a make your own salad for lunch. It was surprising how many options/possibilities were available for the make your own salad. Definatly a great place for lunch, dinner or drinks with friends. We will be back there soon.
J. G.
Great sausage platter and beer. It's a bit pricey but the ambiance is really great.
D. C.
Great place for an epic carnivorous feed filled with Bavarian delights. Pork knuckles, pork bellies, Schnitzels & snags. This place also has a great offering of German beer and also others from Australia and around the world. Look out for the daily specials like 10c wings on Mondays and sign up for the club for special deals.
D. T. b.
I'd say this place is the 'flagship' Bavarian bier cafe, it's always clean and well presented inside. The staff are attentive and they have a new system where you can order via a mobile app and get the food and drinks delivered directly to the table. This is good as the bar can get quite busy.. TIP: Try to go during happyhour or take advantage of there many promos as it's easy to rack up a large tab with the standard pricing. Cheers
S. M.
Very nice, Food! Drink, place! Gelato!! Good size meals as well
A. R.
Foods good, service is fast and friendly.
Wait staff possibly too efficient as Iearned upon returning from the bathroom and finding my food and beer cleared away. All cleared up with manger without hassle and staff were apologetic.
Great place to go for a meal with friends or just as an afternoon wind down on your own.
A. P.
Location, atmosphere, service 5 stars. Nice German beers, also the best alcohol free beer I've tasted. Food maybe 2 stars. Massive portions though.
I think 3 stars overall is generous
J. O.
Love their cocktails! 20 wings for 2 dollar on Tuesday is amazing value. Didn't like the slow cooked pork as much, but that's just how I feel about slow cooked pork.
A. N.
This more like a pub than an a restaurant for a meal. Not a good place for family with kids on Friday afternoon as the music was too loud and the service did not pay attention to detail like not steak knife for steak. However the customer service is very friendly. Fast food to come out. Watch out for the happy hour deals they seem like a get in bite. Happy hour beers seems to be watered down
A. P.
Best beer in town, during happy hour is great value
A. T.
Good place for German and Australian beers.
They currently have happy hour from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and also have free snacks at this time.
The place seems a bit under-staffed which impacts the service.
P. V.
They have a happy hour, I think 4-6 p.m. If you buy 0.5 litre house beer (selection of like 3) it will cost you $5. Also some free snacks during the happy hour. However the place is PACKED during that time. I mean you will struggle to find a place to stand at. You will be watching plenty of empty tables with the Reserved sign on them, there nobody sits for hours. I think wait staff is playing silly games with it.
J. W. Y.
We ordered pork knuckle set with pretzel entree and apple strudel for dessert. The pretzel was very fragrant and tasty. The pork knuckle was delicious. The skin was crispy and the serving was definitely adequate for 1 person. The sauerkraut was tasty as well. As for the apple strudel, it was good although i would say that it is dependent on the person having it. It is heavier on the cinnamon and I believe that it is made with a tinge of rum. Overall i will definitely go back again.
D. H.

Having traveled all around the world to include a 3 year stint in Germany, this is as authentic as they come in Australia. Bottom line is that beer is great, food is great, service was great as well. I don’t write reviews that often but made a point to do so as my wife and I had a late lunch there today and it absolutely struck us as amazing. Had the Pretzel and calamari for starters and both were perfect. Calamari is an absolute top dish of mine and rarely do places cook or season properly, this place nailed it with the batter and spice. Schnitzels were great, had the Jager and BBQ. Can’t go wrong with either. Fries and potato salad are some of the best we’ve had here. My wife and I love beer! Having left Colorado, U.S.A recently, known for its amazing beer, we were pleased to try the beers on tap. They are true to basis German beers. All in all you legitimately can’t go wrong eating or drinking here. I’m telling you if you are in the area you must try it.
P. N.
Went here on Thursday for the good value $15 burger and beer combo. Unfortunately it’s let down but long waits for drinks, food, and the bill. The charm of the old Bavarian Bier Cafe has been replaced by an incongruous American sports bar vibe.
K. f.
Hands down the friendliest place i have had the pleasure of dining, the food and the people are as pleasant as freshly shaved legs. The meat is as tender as a child's heart and the service is as quick as a lit match stick. I will be coming back here. Simon was beautiful at the front desk and the barman was sweet with the pouring.
A. H.
Wednesday half price set menu. Went for pork knuckle. Good service (no one too pushy), good beer. Apple strudel was nice too. Chair a bit rickety though. Needs to be serviced.
J. K.
Always had good time coming here for a beer after work, food is good and items like the pork knuckles are great value, every time I drink different beers from the tap. Service is very friendly and helpful. Can be a tad noisy, but hey it's a beerhouse, that's how is supposed to be
J. B.
I'm a big fan of German beer so have been coming here for years. It's a pleasant space with very tall ceilings and a nice bar. The beer selection is pretty good. Food is typical German dishes which are reasonably well presented and the portions are generous. It does get very packed and very loud on Friday and Saturday nights but other nights you could have a pleasant meal and conversation here. Overall I've found my enjoyment of this place to be inversely proportional to how packed and busy it is. Others may enjoy the roudy atmosphere on the busy nights.
G.
Generous serves of food especially pork knuckle but done just right. Good range of German beer. Service a little slow but the beer choice assists the wait. Food is worth the wait though and you won't leave feeling like the serving was too stingey. Great place for a group.
L. M.
Had the best beer in my life in this place. Can't remember the name, but it ends in 'hell' but tastes like Heaven. Really noisy at night, but other than that it is great. The sausage sampler plate is wonderful!
Going right now for the third night in a row. It's that good.
V. L.
Full power packed place !
Worth a visit with your best mates :)

Very nice chicken wings, nice place and good wait service 👍
B. B.
This place is great especially for large groups. I have never been disappointed with food or beer. Great selection of food and beer to choose from and for those who cant make up their minds a tasting plate of food and they have a beer taster too!
Plus the buffalo chicken wings are amazing!
Service can be a little slow but itnis a ver big place.

This place has some amazing German food. Generous servings. Always sure to please. I love the pork knuckle. I’ve also had the sausages, mixed sausages and pork belly. As well as the traditional pretzel. Just delicious. Loads of different beers on tap too - I’ve tried almost all of them and they are great. Always good to try the German beers that won’t be on tap at the local and standard pubs. Downside is, the service here can be average. Last night I was at the bar, when I asked for something, I was totally ignored. Which I found super rude and took some offence to. Besides that though, it’s generally ok. You get your nice staff who care and then others who make it clear they don’t want to be there. The atmosphere is lively and always seems to be busy. On a Saturday night they sometimes have live entertainment. I’m not sure if they do anymore though. But is fun with a group of people. Overall you’ll get some great German food here - but again, service can be hit and miss.
R. P. (.
I had a salad with beef brisket. The salad was nice but the beef brisket was full of fatty pieces that you cant tell unless your chewing the beef. Not good at all. The lady serving us was nice and provided good service.

I’ve been to Beerhaus in Sydney CBD many times and I’ll continue to go there. It’s got a casual feel to - a great place for friends to hang out. The happy hour is great. Besides the cheap drinks they give free food too! They have lunch specials as well
A.
Great atmosphere, convenient location and when there's happy hour free snacks are provided! This includes chicken wings, chips and sausage rolls. Their cocktails were pretty good too!
M. L.
Great food, huge selection of beer and great atmosphere. Manager/Owner was a champ even if he refused me the 8 sambucca shot order at the end. For that i will reward you with my presence again in the near future
C. Z.
Can't recommend this Cafe enough. The staff are superb, food services are quick.
Watch out the happy hour beer only for $5 - 500ml!!
They also have unique way in delivering shots for the patron of the day.
Ordered the "meat platter" for share and you know what? Yumm!!
A. S.
I always seem to have a good experience at the various Bavarian Bier Cafes around Sydney. I brought a friend of mine here not too long ago, and we both agreed the atmosphere and food were great!
I find the food a little on the pricey side, however the servings are quite big, and always full of flavour.
Beware: If you order shots, they will be brought out on a wooden plank, ringing a bell.
I find the wait staff are always quite busy, and if you come during peak hours then you may have to wait a little while longer than usual.
This is a great place for a casual dinner or a night out with friends. I have never had a bad experience here at all.
R. D.
Great food, great service, excellent schnapps! Went there with work colleagues and I ordered the schnitzel burger. The chicken melts in your mouth and the chips were thick and crispy. The huge schnitzel they have is quite impressive, and you'll get a free schnapps if you manage to finish it!
Will be going back again.
L. M.
We visited here every day during our brief stay in Sydney due to their excellent happy hour offer! Any pint for $5 and free finger food with any beer. I reckon that's the best offer in the city!
It doesn't get five stars as some of the staff (I need to emphasize I'm not painting all staff with the same brush) were not very attentive. The first evening we were there we had a lovely girl serving us that kept us well stocked up on beer. The third evening a lovely gent was regularly around to our table as well.
The second evening it was almost impossible to get our waitresses attention. There was also an issue with our bill as were charged full price for one beer even though it was ordered during happy hour alongside a glass of wine (Which was charged at happy hour price). When we were about to leave and I pointed out this mistake to the waitress she immediately explained that I obviously ordered the beer outside of happy hour.. I politely explained that it was indeed a mistake as happy hour had just finished and I had spent the last 30 minutes nursing my beer, nevermind the fact that the wine was correctly priced. It was remedied after this but I didn't appreciate the initial accusatory response from the waitress.
I would still happily recommend this place to anyone in CBD from 4-6PM!
F. S.
Right place for a cold German beer! Amazing staff and atmosphere. Will definitely come back!
M. L.
Good selection of beer and the menu is ok but the atmosphere and service could be improved. I had the pork schnitzel with the bier gravy but the gravy tasted burnt and the table was very sticky. Our witress was friendly but seemed like she was stretched too thin. We had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for service after our meal. In the end we had to go to the front to get the bill because we couldn't get any service.
We chose to go here because they have burlesque on Saturdays, featuring some of Australia's best burlesque performers but the atmosphere sucked. A very misogynistic vibe.
I wouldn't recommend the Bavarian Beerhaus as an ideal place for a cute date night or families.
S. M.
Zero table service unless they bring something to your table. The “all you can eat meat menu selection” was just one plate, nothing more to eat which was absolutely misleading for our table.
Table was not cleaned during our two hour stay whilst ratio of customers to staff was manageable.
Pricing did not match value or money and so I can understand the changes in this business but I just don’t think it’ll be enough for it to survive.
S. Y.
Service was a bit slow, even on a Wed night. Too few servers for dinner service. Food was ok, it's really all about the beers here. Big portions of food. I'd recommend the pork belly and schnitzel wiener. The pork knuckle is really good value for money. A bit salty. Happy hour from 4-6pm, $5 craft beers and wings.
A. W.
Always great food and drink. Was a bit too loud to talk though
R. D.
Amazing food coupled with amazing beer. Wasn't too loud, lights were dimmed, but still enough to see. Ordered the Bavarian Tasting dish, and was pleasantly surprised to receive a huge plate heaped with meats and saurkraut. The beer was delicious. Tried their craft range and was rewarded with delicious, palate pleasing tastes from a lager to a wheat beer. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and great beer.
L. P.
One of my favourite places to go out. Great for groups. The food is pricey but very good quality. The beers are all quality and there is plenty of variety. Paddles of shots seem to be a favourite as the waitresses ring a bell whenever one is ordered. Highly recommended.
A. K.
Thought this place was just another German beerhouse clone, its much more than that, the food and atmosphere make this one of the best pub + grub places around the CBD. We go there for happy hour - half a litre of beer for $5 - sounds good right? Then you throw in the house made mini sausage rolls for free and you have me.
T. G.
Just one sentence to describe this place, German Beers. Can't get any better than this. I have visited Bavarian Beerhaus multiple times, and it has never let me down. I have also been to their other outlets, they totally nail it. Specially they offer $5/500 ml beers during happy hours.
Highly recommended, you won't regret it.
D. N.
Food here is delicious. If in a group, i would suggest the sharing plates. Prices are reasonable. Only down side is that it becomes very loud when there are a lot of people. Not exactly a place to go and have group conversations.
t. m. l.
Bavarian Bier Cafe is definitely one of my favourite spots to come and enjoy some beer, schnitzel and good company, and the Bavarian cafe on York street offers nothing less.
Ambiance: 8/10
Music was a bit too loud for my liking, which made the conversion really difficult! I love the interior though with the centralised bar, decorated with beer barrels and very wooden barn style decor everywhere.
Menu: 8/10
I liked the menu overall, but note that the image provided here on Zomato is different to what we were given. I was a bit annoyed at that since we actually came here to try burgers (to make a top 10 Sydney burger list!), but nonetheless we stayed and enjoyed the food.
Service: 4/10
I was actually a bit dissapointed by the service, which was very slow. It took a long time for us to be seated, and even longer for our order to be taken. Unfortunately it appeared like the team was short staffed and unable to manage the volume of people.
Food: 7/10
The food itself was decent. My frankfruts were really tasty, and so was the saurkraut (which was delicious!), but the biggest let down for me was the potato salad. It was cold and some of the potato wasn't even cooked, and the entire salad was underseasoned too. The veggie pie was substantial and really quite warm in flavour, but the pastry was soggy unfortunately.
Value for money: 7/10
The servings seem large when presented on a big plate, but the food quantity isn't that much to justify some of the prices in my opinion.
Overall: 7/10
J. B.
The food was pretty good but they didn’t have a lot of the menu items available and kept having to come back and get us to choose something else and they gave us the wrong type of fries. The service could be better. I’d say this place is way better for drinking at the bar than sitting down for a meal.
A. C.
Amazing beer selection - loved the ladies "bier" with the flavor shots! Get a pretzel tree to start your meal and then enjoy one of the many schnitzel dishes. Portions are very big, so you might want to share! Absolutely delicious! A little on the pricey side, and the service was a little difficult to converse with, but overall, amazing German food experience and would be glad to go back!
T.
Tough one to review. Really clean well laid out place... loud though! Pricey even for the locale but friendly staff and good beers. If the Bavarian way, with open spaces and connecting tables etc appeals then this is a great place for food and beer.
Personally I prefer small nooks and crannies. Snug cozy bars kind of thing but that's me.
But this place was rocking it and for that I can't fault it.
G. B.
Beerhaus is absolutely amazing! Went there for the first time 2 weeks ago and was impressed with the great customer service and the quality food! Great atmosphere for anyone, any age especially with the free entertainment and games. Highly recommended!
10/5 for me 😄
K. K.
The old Bavarian Bier Cafe - they have an excellent happy hour - the beers selection is great. Only down side is that more recently it gets super packed between 430-6pm (most likely due to happy hour) so as long as you're comfortable with standing up - most of the times without a barrel/table.
I'm unsure why they have moved all standup barrels in front of the men's toilets - I think that wasn't well thought through! Other than the above good spot for few beers post work.
P. L.
I really enjoyed my time in this amazing place. We had Munich platter for 3 people and pork knucle which was fantastic. As starter we tried potato skins and chicken tenders. Pretzel couldnt miss on the tablr. It was really delicious. Great service as well. I appreciate table games. Well done Beerhaus :) I reccomend.
B. D.
The food was good, the beer selection was very good. However the day that I was there I felt that they were understaffed, even with few tables occupied it was a little hard to get their attention.
W. J.
Decent enough German themed beer barn. They have a wide range of beers. The food is hearty and OK quality wise but certainly not exceptional. Service is a bit erratic. It can take quite a while before orders are taken, but the orders arrive fairly quickly.
Don't come here for quiet conversation. The space is very loud - especially when crowded.
K. T.
Good food, good beer, but can get pretty bogged down at the bar at busy times.
J.
Good place for a bite to eat or a pint on Friday. Offer a happy hour from 4 to 6 on a Friday as well as this they give out little tickets that you can use for some snack type foods. Was loaded fries and sausage rolls last time, but have also seen chicken wings as well.
If you are going more for a meal, its naturally German focused with pork and sausages, but does offer fish and chips and burgers as well. Plates are big and while the tasting platers; one meat and one sausage say designed for 1, they do offer a lot of food on a single plate.
P. G.
I visited after work for a couple of beers. It was pretty busy but you could get a beer at the bar. There was also a number of people sitting at tables. Good range of beers with a vast array of beer glasses to choose from.
They are also a restaurant with lots of meat as expected.
Service was good
G. A.
Nice venue but with this one big space it feels slightly imposing and gets very loud with more people. The beer was great, salad had a bag of spinach dumped on top of it and my friend had to look for and fish out other ingredients. Generally nice, good service.
A. Y.
Less German style beers than before.
Food was good but not outstanding.
The $10 burger deal for lunch is nice but its an extra $5 for chips which brings it up to the usual price for the combo.
S. M.
Really nice food and good selection of beer but service needs improving. Twice have waited 15 to 20 mins after completing a meal to get service. If i wanted another course my appetite completely vanished because of the wait.
K. T.
Excellent happy hour deals, always busy. The pork knuckle is amazing. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't a bit pricy but hey, you only live once
S.
Casual, chilled out spot.Very friendly staff who added to the experience. Went for the happy hour specials and ended up staying because it's a good place to catch up without having to shout over music or jostle with the crowd.
J. H.
Great beers, Nice meals, Friendly staff. Diablo Chicken Wings are a must try.
S. S. G.
A good place to enjoy German bear. Nice place to hang out with friends or college's.
A bit over crowded and very noisy. A fair number of eating options available but lack vegetarian.
Doesn't open till late hour's but they do have good provision for hosting private parties.
A. L.
Great vibe with friendly and attentive staff and generous portions of food. Came here yesterday and informed the waitress it was my friends birthday. She brought out a chocolate fondant (yum!) with a bell and sparklers which made the night special and got a round of applause from the other customers! Thanks!
j. b.
Love this place. Don't forget to ask and signup to their membership option for impressive daily deals and savings! Happy hour is great with $5 pints and their beer selection is good.
M. S. R.
Super loud, had our group re-order the same order of drinks several times before receiving it and staff unable to figure out which food is what and whose food is for who. I think that maybe there were some new people working there? They kept writing down the orders and getting their dish names wrong..also I ordered a salad and even though the ingredients are literally chosen on paper, I had some ingredients missing in mine. However, what arrived was not bad tasting for me so this place gets 3 stars despite the shortcomings.
J. V.
Consistently good food, beer and service. Last visit the music was not too loud, so you could hold a conversation at a reasonable volume.
Minus one point for price — $30 for mains, and 300 mL of beer starts at $8.50.
P. D.
Went there for a beer and some wings. The wings were the best Buffalo wings I've had in ages, and the beer is just how it should be: cold and plenty. It's open plan seating for the most part so it can get pretty loud but that should be expected at a beerhouse.
Y. P.
Great atmosphere, we had a corporate lunch with set menu, good value, nice food. Grilled salmon was perfect. Stakes were overcooked.
For those who like beer - amazing selection.
L. P.
10/10 My friend went for the 1KG Schnitzelmeister with 4 sides of mash. The night started with a full plate, then an empty plate, then a full plate again (if you get what I mean). Wasn't pretty.
Awesome food, great staff, spectacular bier!
L. L.
Foods really good. Service is great. They have this new payment thing called me&u tho, and it gets a few things lost in "translation" I guess... like theres no option to add a msg about how you want a dish or drink. Idk. Maybe I'm being petty.
S. M.
At a glance: pork belly·chicken schnitzel·tasting platter·german beer·fish & chips
“the food was fantastic. The staff were just lovely and provided really good service and advice. i had the pork belly, which was just delicious, and a must try!!! the atmosphere was really great
C. L.
Love this place. Great to meet with friends. Loads of schnitzel, beer selection and atmosphere. Friendly staff, reliable. Gets a bit crowded so go early. Listen out for the cowbells that announce a flight of schnapps.
C. S.
Hard to beat the happy hour here, esp with the free hot snacks. $5 for 500ml of selected draft - not the top shelf stuff but did include Goose Island IPA
J. C.
This place does some good german food but it's a little on the expensive side. I wouldn't come here every week. If you like German beer then it's great. Im not sure who has the bigger beer collection between here and the Lowenbrau in the Rocks. There was an entertainment show put on a Saturday night which featured three dancing girls in not to much clothing (in front a very mixed crowd) which felt a bit weird in this day and age but most people seemed to be going along with it. Then a guy came out dressed in what I think were female clothes and sang, he was a pretty good singer. He walked around and seduced a few people in good humour (mostly guys) before returning to centre stage. I'm not sure what the connection was of the show to the restaurant chain but just seemed a bit out of place I may be a throwback to a different time. I've had quite a few chicken schnitzels at the various versions of this franchise (?) around Sydney. I think unless you get the special of the day it's probably just a little bit on the expensive side for me.
m. p.
Has an awesome time, good food, good drinks and our waiter Tristan was excellent
S. W.
This is a large open space with great decor. Touches of Bavaria are in obvious view all over the place. Great food menu, great beer options including craft beer for those of you who find some German beers a little too wheaty. Not overly expensive, I had a 1 litre stein of Paulaner Munich lager and a full crispy pork knuckle for $60. Loads of meat and beer, well worth it.
A. B.
Great beer, food and atmosphere. The service is quite slow as there is no real order when it comes to ordering food. Waiting in line at the bar for a long time before we flagged someone and asked if they can come to the table to take the order.
D. S.
Great atmosphere in a venue where the beer flows aplenty.
The selection is without equal in the beer department and you can get various amounts i.e. 300ml, 1/2 litre and a full litre... probably the only way to go when you are there.
The food is also top notch and you will not be disappointed with any selection.
Fairly reasonably priced.
J. B.
Did happy hour on tuesday. Plenty of space, $5 pints were really good. The premium snacks and chicken wings were disappointing. All up a good experience.
A. M.
Great brewed German beer!! Must visit in happy hours; $5 beers and $1 chicken wings. Happening place, good music and friendly staff.
A.
Great happy hour specials. Food, like all Bavarians, is incredible. Staff are less than attentive which brings it down. Recommend booking a table for Friday lunch/dinner especially in summer
K. C.
Really good fun. Always have a good time at the Bavarian. Normally seat ourselves at the bar so service is always attentive. Not a bad price. Pretty half for a litre of beer!
E. D.
Great bar, nice and cool during hot summer Sydney days with great AC and very nice happy hour wines. They also offer free snacks which is very generous and appreciated. Great service too, highly recommend this bar.
W. W.
Ever fancy German beer? This is the best place not only for that, but also the best place for German food.
Pork lovers will have to go there to try the Pork belly / Pork Knuckles, a bit pricy for a large platter, but definitely worth a try.
The large platter costs around $38/person which you can share with your mates, and the small size costs $20.
Fantastic service and lovely waitress :p
G. H.
Fast service and fantastic autenthic bavarian dishes. Not too many beers to choose from and prices are in the high side. Parking was more than the food so make sure you travel by public transport.
B.
I used to love this establishment, though as they have become more popular and their prices and menus have reflected this I have softened my opinion. Now it is quite expensive for what you get. Beers are still good and if you haven't been, I'd definitely recommend a quick visit.
C. S.
German-style pub with German beers on tap. Quite pricey but try this place during thier - very strictly enforced - happy hour. It's between 5-7PM. Five beers - $5 each plus some local wines and some food (10 chicken wings - $10).
Very loud music so very difficult to have conversation.
M. B.
Loved the food, drinks, atmosphere, service.
E. M.
Was enjoying that happy hour there. Go to all the Bavarian venues but this Johana was so rude. My mate accidentally knocks her drink over and she watches I end up asking her for a tea towel she brings one a good 10 mins later and picks up the drink that wasn’t finished. Continued walking past multiple times never taking these dirty wet tea towels and taking drinks that obviously weren’t finished... ask if they’re done next time lol.
B. Z.
Friendly staff, food is average quality. Ghost pepper chicken wings are not hot at all. Pork has poor taste/smell. Beer is great as always.
A. S.
Great spot for groups, but service can be a bit slow.
m. c.
If you want good seats, make a reservation.
And always ask first if their deals are still valid or hasn’t changed because it’s misleading. We went there on a Wednesday where it’s supposed to be 10c chicken wings but as it turned out, they moved it to Monday.
G. L.
Easily one of the loudest, most deliciously sickening restaurants.. Yell to be heard by the person next to you, then drink delicious beer to sooth your throat. The food is delicious, but the portions are definitely sized up compared to normal restaurants. A great place for food comas and pale ale.
J. H.
Nice place to drink real german beer. It's a bit expensive dough
A. S.
Two words (Pork Knuckle) It is huge, tasty and filling! Dive in to this awesome meal and finish it off with a beer/cider! The prices are more on the expensive side however the quality of the food pays off in comparison. Staff are friendly, portions are huge and atmosphere is a real nice clean pub feel.
J. G.
Love the food and beer here, several locations around Sydney. This one is a bit more modern but still good.
The toilets were being renovated on my last visit so only the disabled was available, hopefully this has been rectified since.
C. F.
Nice restaurant with good Schnitzel and good beer. The best Tim is during the happy hour between 4-6 pm.
Would recommend it
D. B.
They all you can eat menu are available often. Meals are good too!
C.
Sit at the bar with $5 pints at happy hour. 10c wings Monday is a deal ( 10 wings per pint )
J. B.
I'm a big fan of German beer so have been coming here for years. It's a pleasant space with very tall ceilings and a nice bar. The beer selection is pretty good. Food is typical German dishes which are reasonably well presented and the …
P. E.
Service as pretty good. Nice menu selection for food and drinks. Great for groups. Has some vegetarian options.
S. O.
Cold beer and drinks, very friendly and helpful staff, nice decor and good prices. Free snacks during happy hour in the afternoon.
C. C.
Wonderful food. I took the Schnitzel Challenge - it was delicious! The waiters were very attentive. The beer was very tasty too. Everyone had a great time.
M. B.
Tip: 5 small craft beers to taste for 14.50
L. M. R. H.
I made a booking for my boyfriend's birthday in the Beerhaus and we had an amazing experience, the food was great and Carolina gave us a great service, always helping us with a great attitude. Thanks Carolina and Eduardo in the bar.
J. B.
Very good one of the best berverereens I have witnessed. I love the service of Joel he was the best drink giver I have seen. Excellent work to the staff.
G. K.
Pork platter was amazing! Great beer and attentive service. Sad I don't live in NSW or this would be a regular haunt!
M. L.
Really good happy hour specials and some of the best hot wings I've had in Australia. Good beer, good staff and great food. Recommend booking for larger groups or during busy times
P. C.
German pub serving mostly german beer abd pub food. Good ambience, its got the oakey dark interiors with spot lights. The beers are great and enjoyed the buffalo wings on the side. Enogh space inside, clean toilets and furniture. I found the air a bit stale having gone on a Oct afternoon with not much people around. It should improve its air circulation. A couple of heavy duty exhaust fans should do it. Otherwise worth a visit!
J. P.
What's not to love about a place that sells litres of beer! They've updated their menu a bit which is good, but the schnitzel just isn't the same. A great place to start your night with a feed and some brews!
T. R.
Was a fantastic place, but they removed the Uber Schnitzel deal for lunch: schnitzel + mash potato+ beer for $17!
The replacement lunch special menu is not good unfortunately.
Bring the Uber schnitzel deal back please! :)
L. D.
Great service and attentive staff. A great location in the CBD to stop on a Sunday afternoon, with $5 drinks and 50c wings. Very much enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Buffalo Wings seemed hotter than Diablo Wings, but all were delicious!
S. K.
We had a great time here. The service was awesome. For so.e reason it was really quiet on a Saturday night but that was good for us.
PSA - get the salted pretzel and try it with the caramel sauce that comes with the doughnut pretzel - OMG amazing!
D. K.
Had the Munich Brewers Platter a few times...I suggest sharing between 3 not 2 as suggested as it's massive! Works out OK at $24 each that way... Beautiful pork crackling. Excellent smoked wurst und sauer kraut!
J. S.
Amazing food and flavour.
Great german beer served on a daily basis
Make sure to book in for large groups especially on weekends as seating is large but popular!
T. H.
I like the place. Good beer however food is very defined type not much variety. Very pricy I suppose city location you cannot expect it cheap. Good for business lunch when there is no queue.
M. M.
Friendly staff. Impressive venue. Lively. Pork schnitzel was dry though. They also sent me the wrong beer (a larger one), wasn't charged for it, so pretty good I'd say.
F. B.
DISAPPOINTING!
Very disappointing to say the least! I ordered a Franziskaner Weissbier at the bar, but given a beer. Albeit, not the beer I ordered, because, “we don’t have that beer anymore”, even though it’s still on the menu. But given a beer none the less without being told it’s not the beer I ordered. It was up to me to work out.
What restaurant, purportedly German, doesn’t have sauerkraut? The York St, Beerhaus doesn’t. DISAPPOINTING!
However the service was ok.
R. G.
Great atmosphere and food tasted great but rather over priced for the serving size. Generally a schnitzel around $30 mark warrants a more than your average size.
That aside, good beer selection, amazing service and wasn't over crowded at the time I went just after lunch on a weekday.
A. B. H.
Great atmosphere specially during happy hour. The German beers are definitely worth a try and the staff members are really friendly :)
T. H.
Fantastic German beers on tap, along with good beer food.
This place now stocks 'craft beer range' on top of the usual hofbrau and franziskaner. I've tried their munich pale lager and pale ale, and they were both very tasty and fragrant.
Portion size is rather large, so you might want to consider sharing the plates with sides. Price may seem a bit dear, but not so much when you see the amount of food you get. My favourites are their sausages and pork knuckle. Schnitzels are great but not unique.
The restaurant is almost always full, and it can get very loud in the weekends.
T. H.
Great selection of great food which was so tasty and delicious. Good portion sizes for what you pay. Awesome range of alcoholic beverages and tasty cocktails too.
B. A.
Majority of the staff are amazing but there's one manager-Mel. She was horrible. Cold, abrasive and extremely condescending! She completely treated us horribly and I honestly don't know how The Bavarian trusted her to manage this place. Beers were great here and good ambience. Only Mel ruined it for us!
P. L.
Since this venue has been under the leadership of a new general manger for about eight or nine months it has become the yardstick by which all venues like this should be measured. The service, food and beverage is outstanding.
If you are looking for a quiet dining experience don't come here. Expect some noise, and buzz and vibe. It all adds to the great experience.
I patronise several of the BBC venues in Australia and York Street is by far the best there is. Always a pleasure to return.
Lederhosen not required!
C. S.
Love the food and beer there. Been here numerous times for work functions for their mussels and beer. Go thee pork knuckle if you want a big meal you can't finish. Staff are friendly but not overbearing.
J.
The beer is great, of course and the schnitzel serves are very generous but it would be good to have at least some vegetable beyond a garnish which came with the dish rather than having to be purchased as a side
B. M.
Great Beer but the quality of the cooking has nose-dived recently. Also if you want to try and book anything there be aware that they charge a $10 per person deposit- even if you don't want to eat.
A. K.
Good hearty German fare. If you're hungry then you can do a lot worse than enjoy a meal here. Expect good, hearty and honest meals without fuss. Needless to say, the beer choices are top notch.
G. C.
Great service, great food and even greater service.. Even better on the days with live music. Carolina who was looking after us was amazing! Would give 7 stars if I could ;)
J. S.
Great food and service.
C. B.
Nice friendly staff, good varietly of european beers and good space - plenty of seating. The menu looks decent, and they have specials on certain days of the week.
I saw a few good reviews of the pork knuckle on google so I decided to have it, after all I love pork, and crackling. Perhaps I got it on an off night, but what I was served was dry, and hard to eat. The crackling took effort to break into, and then turned to dust, leaving the mouth dry - thank goodness for the beer. The meat itself was only good right in the middle, so I'm glad I took the staff recommendation of getting the whole knuckle ($33) instead of half ($26), because only half was edible.
The sides were nice- mash potato, sauerkraut and apple sauce. Unfortunately they were the only good part of the meal, and in short supply.
I dont often complain, in fact cant remember the last time I did, but decided to let them know the pork was no good. Staff member agreed and said he didnt like the pork knuckle much either, but didnt appear to mention it to the kitchen. He offered a pretzle, but I was too full from the beer to eat anything else therefore turned it down.
The meal was so poor that I didnt feel like paying, though no discount was offered so I payed the bill and left.
I might go back for a beer, but will not eat there again.
M. J.
Visited on 17 February 2021 for lunch. Service friendly, beer and food good. Place shabby and tables sticky.

Cold beer and drinks, very friendly and helpful staff, nice decor and good prices. Free snacks during happy hour in the afternoon.

This place is my favourite, been there a lot of times and love german craft beers.

Cool atmosphere when it's kicking and like eating in a cabin lodge when it's not, if it's your first time worth getting a discount partnered with mealpal at time of positing up to 50% off. Pork Belly isnt German but it is köstlich 👌

This is a pretty standard franchise affair... however the service is mostly speedy friendly and engaging. The food is consistent also.
I would like to see more choice of boutique german beers and not just the better known onces.
S. H.
Had some awesome German food, decent beer, and a very entertaining burlesque show. The service was a bit spotty but it was a Friday night and extremely busy with every table filled.

Been there many times in my travels. Everytime I go there I always get fantastic service from Alexandra. She really is one of the greats that works there.. compared to grilld burgers and or rashays. Alex does better job than all of the above :)

Great place to go for a beer after work. Love their happy hour (5$ for a drink) and complementary finger food!
The place is loud but cosy at the same time.

My wife took me there for my birthday lunch. We ordered half Crispy Pork Knuckle and also the German Sausage Tasting Platter with Hofbrau Dunkel and Hofbrau Original as drink for the two of us. My wife told the waitress that it was my birthday. The waitress came out with an additional half of Crispy Pork Knuckle, saying that it was a compliment from the Chef since it was also during the duration of Christmas. We will like to thanks the Chef as I loved the taste of the Crispy Pork Knuckle, it was very crispy, so good and yummy with potato mash and sauerkraut, even though the cooking style was different from what I had in Hahndorf Restaurant, Adelaide, before. We too enjoyed the German Sausage Platter even thought the varieties was quite limited. We really appreciated the service of the waitress whom served us at our section, but unfortunately we forgotten to get her name. She seem to be working alone but did a very great job in servicing all the customers. What a great waitress.
And for sure we will go back there again!!!

Watched the Super Bowl there this year. $5 ½ litre beers, BBQ chick wings. Great atmosphere. Shut up and take my money!

The staff were exceptional and very friendly. The imported beers are so good. Lovely food too. Will recommend, best during off peak hours.

Good place to stop by to get your German beer and food fix. You can't go pass their pork knuckles and schnitzels but it was their Roasted Pork Roll (crackling, spiced apple, slaw, baby cress and lime aioli) that was most popular with our group on our last visit. If you want to go easy then their house-made sausages served with creamy mash potato, sauerkraut and bier jus is a great option. Booking ahead is always recommended as they do get busy in the evenings and the place can get pretty loud too once the venue is full.

Good food, drinks and easy to access location after work
S. A.
Without the Uber snitzel in special it is not the same place anymore. The new specials are more expensive and the sizes very poor and no beer included
I hope they will change their mind!
A. N.
Nice place and good atmosphere although the place is always busy. The staff are helpful too. German beer (Franziskaner) is great but the food sometimes is quite salty, especially the sauerkraut.
G. S.
Good atmosphere. Happy hour prices. Extremely busy on Friday nights. Good location. Good choice of snack foods.
P. C.
Good beer. Good food. Good special offers through the week. Like that there's no crazy loud music and you can talk to your friends.
V. S.
Very pricy and food isn't excellent. I've had better schnitzel for a lot less. Good service. Decent beer.
E. C.
Substituted beer without asking. Food mediocre. New managment presumably figuring things out. But substitution of one beer for another is not cool. Munich brauhaus generally better.
J. G.
The brisket is superb! Go on a Wednesday night for the $35 all you can eat if you want to put your stomach to the test.
M. B.
Always enjoy our time at the Bavarian. Delicious food, great service. And then there is lots of Beer choices for anyone who likes a Stein or two.
A. D.
What a amazing set up this place has and I like all the posters and information that they have have on their walls.
An extensive range of food and drinks are available and the service was fantastic (even if the waitress seemed a little disappointed that we wanted to get up and get our own drinks from the bar).
S. P.
Great place for catching up with friends or colleagues after work. Excellent selection of beers and service is fast. Food is also good. Can get a little crowded, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings.
F. C.
Great selection of beers. And 50cent wings on Sunday. Who could refuse?
A. S.
Awesome fresh beers and environment
W. S.
Nice selection of beer, also If you had the taster plate with pork belly and sausages I don't think your cardiologist will like that.
L. D. C.
The schnitzels are overpriced here but the atmosphere kind of makes up for it.
Expect a noisy night out full of beer, schnapps and the ringing of bells when a row of shots are served!
T. W.
Hands down the best schnitzel I've had in my life. $5 happy hour drinks and plenty of beers and food to choose from. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Bavarian Bier Cafe is great! Been here once and the Bavarian Platter was really good to have a general taste of all the food. The beers are great as well. The waitress was excellent.
N. G.
Always a great experience dining here, very extensive selection of food and drinks, and proper authentic COLD German Bier on tap. Pork knuckle is a must, 10/10 Great chain of German restaurants.
S. K.
Best place for the Friday night's. Always love it.
G. B.
50c wings on a Monday. Very tasty! The restaurant has a great atmosphere, staff are very friendly and the service is good!
C. F.
Nice restaurant with good Schnitzel and good beer. The best Tim is during the happy hour between 4-6 pm.
Would recommend it
S. K.
Great selection of beers, German menu, nice food, large bar area with great atmosphere. Friendly staff (in Bavarian costume!!). A good meeting place or night out with buddies..
C. M.
Great beer and food, good staff. Can take a long time to get served even during quiet hours.
M. D. T.
I always come here with friends on a fri night. Place is always pack on a friday-sunday night. So make sure you book a place if you are planning to have a meal there. If you are a beer fan, you will love this place for sure! Their 750ml glass beers are only less $10. Peach schnapps are also a must try drink!
V. 2.
Great drinks and filling food. Can't go wrong!
P. E.
Service as pretty good. Nice menu selection for food and drinks. Great for groups. Has some vegetarian options.
R. R.
The food is great but it is too loud. The service is poor. We asked for water and after a while we just got a glass of water to share between three of us.
A. P.
This place will never disappoint you. 1L beer jug is probably the highlight of this place other than ambiance. They offer good food and bar tending service is up to the mark as well.
N. C.
Monday night so quiet . Not too many places open for food post 9.39 pm.
Food ok - ribs - as is service, found the Schneider Weisse TAP 1 a great beer.
E. L.
Food is overpriced and I asked for water and they brought me a bottle of expensive mineral water.
T. D.
Had the pork belly here and it was delicious. It gets quite busy, so expect a wait during lunch hours. It's also very noisy but it's part of the atmosphere of the restaurant.
s. l.
Lovley new venue and great to see someplace like this in Newcastle. We were in last week and There was 8 at our table and we had the most friendly irish girl wait our table called Aimee . Thank you Aimee we will definetly be back to see you.
K. S.
Superb service and ordering made quick and simple thanks to me&u! $5 credit was just a bonus. Would definitely recommend to friends.
S. H.
Really like this place. Have been back many times, always with a booking. The beers and pork belly are great. One of my favourite places to take a group.
S. W.
Overpriced food. But the crispy pork belly was pretty good. If you want to drink litres and litres of beer though then this is the place for you. Can get busy and uppity (uppity professionals).
L. P.
Music is too loud. Love the beer & the food but we really struggled to talk at the table as everyone in the place was yelling over the music.
S. R.
The food is always delicious. The staff leaves a bit to be desired. Good place to eat though if you're in the area.
M. B.
Very enjoyable, plenty of friendly staff to entice your every request via modern QR code ordering
P. S.
What a great venue. Nice to see it refreshed. Mel (I think her name is) made the afternoon very special. She has to be the best bar manager in Sydney.
M. H.
Good place for beer and food with a group. But it seems like it's having a bit of an identity crisis right now... part German beer ball, part American sports bar.
W. M.
Best german restaurant in Sydney!! If you're brave enough get the Bavarian tasting platter!!! The best if you're really hungry and want to try a bit of everything!
P. K.
Always good to have German beer and schnitzel. Service is good. Bare floors makes the ambience quite loud, so not good for a quiet meal. A little pricey.
M. A.
Under new management. It used to be the Bavarian, but now it's a new place called Beerhaus. I preferred the menu and vibe of the old place. Like another reviewer said, I also felt that it has a slight American vibe.
m.
The single best place around. Great German beer and staff. Women staff tend to have buttons undoing one button than usual. Burgers are tops. Franzikaner, go for it
F. G.
Great atmosphere for October fest. Get down there!
E. M.
Had a great time! Waitress was patient and really helpful. Food was tasty, ready quickly, and good quality (though kinda expensive). Thanks, will be back!

THE BEST PUB IN THE CBD!!
We come here religiously for their incredible happy hour and free snacks!!! You will not find a better deal in Sydney and the team is incredible here’s to you guys!! (Steven, Nick, Spencer, and Rhys)
PROST XXXXX

Excellent range of craft and Bavarian tap beers available. Food was tasty and well presented for the whole table and waitstaff on the ball with patrons
g. r.
Food was great, service could do better.
11 of us went for lunch team lunch.
I was surprised we were charged for extra chilli sauce.
P. v. o.
Food was fine, but service should be better. The girl that seats you should put her phone away as it is rude and seems not interested.
V. V.
The build your own salads are delicious and great value. And I had a really nice coffee. Who'd have thought it? Oh, there's also beer ;)
m. g.
Exactly what you'd expect. Tasty food that leaves you undoing your belt by the end. Wide variety of beers and drinks, though the paulaner salvator seems always sold out! The atmosphere and style is a little more trendy and modem than the typical Bavarian setting, reflecting its cbd locale i guess. Con. There can be a bit of a wait.
N. K.
Crowded and popular place for groups and beers. Beer selection is good, but food needs to have more variety. Costs are moderate to high. Hence, food needs to match the price charged.
J. V.
I came and had a Vienna Schnitzel which I love right next to my pizza. It was excellent and the beers are great!
C.
Sit at the bar with $5 pints at happy hour. 10c wings Monday is a deal ( 10 wings per pint )
P. P.
Best German beers, nice atmosphere, come in proper attire, ohhh ya does matter, they will take you in if it's less crowded.
They ring bell when bringing shots ... Very nice ;-)
J. M.
Super busy and waited a while for service which is the only reason why I've given a 3 star rating. Food, beer and staff were great
L. G.
Food, service and (obviously) beer are good. But the music is too loud for this to be a nice sit down experience, but there are too many tables for this to become an adequate club experience. Prices are very high.
M. L.
Great service with a smile in Sydney, yes I know, unusual but it's true. German beers galore plus large portion Schnitzel, good times.
E. v. d. H. (.
The beer, the food, the service... it's all great!
The wait for the beer and food can be lengthy sometimes. This place is definitely worth a visit though, if you like beer, sausage, or schnitzel.
O. O.
Great bar and great beer!!! The bar tender Moritz really knows his stuff! He let us try a couple of awesome beers and was sooo friendly and nice.
I really recommend this bar!
T. B.
Not for me, many people there, eating and drinking but I try to buy 2 beers on menu and they didn't have, beer they had but not the what I prefer. So I won't go again.
