Beautiful venue. We managed to get a table outside and it was gorgeous in the sun (under a shade umbrella of course). The Salted Espresso Martini was absolutely divine and the risotto was a very tasty, decent serving. My friend commented on the strong lemon taste however I thought the flavours in the risotto blended nicely. The service was good. Would eat there again.

Beautiful place, great vibes and friendly staff. The polenta bites were a great surprise - super tasty entree. My rigatoni alla vodka had a bang of flavour. I added a grilled chicken to it which made it even better! We shared a pizza in the middle otherwise I wouldn’t have been full. Serving sizes were just satisfactory. I had the grapefruit mocktail which sounded way more exciting than it tasted (quite diluted). Would definitely recommend as a place to go for a special occasion.

Great place to have lunch or dinner in Balmain. The drinks are very easy to consume in their beautiful garden.

Perfect location, great table by the window with slight breeze coming in through the windows, Covid safe and tables spaced out appropriately. The service was wonderful, very attentive and the food was sophisticated, tasty and fantastic. We had six entree share plates between 3 of us and it was plenty of food. Kingfish Tartare, Baked Goats Cheese and Arancini were delicious. Extensive wine and beverage list though we went non alcoholic, also with great choices. Cloudy pear and cinnamon drink too as yum and I loved the simple yet clever garnish. I'll definitely be back to The Cottage.

I came here the other day with my boyfriend and I was so glad we did. It was the pouring wet Saturday and this was the perfect spot, warm and cosy and the perfect spot for a cute lunch. The oysters were good, burrata was delicious and the calamari was yum, only thing I wish was the calamari would’ve been cooked a little crispier, aside from that more lemon too! But it was great otherwise :) Will try to endeavour to come back :)

A consistently great spot for both casual or special occasion dining. Both indoors and outdoors are beautifully decorated and the staff always go above and beyond. The menu changes regularly and I am always impressed with the range and quality. It's my go to in Balmain because I know there is something for everyone on the menu. The Cottage has a lovely ambience. The service was very attentive and helpful. Staff were kind but not intrusive and we didn’t wait long for our meals. I’d like to complement that the background music was soft and didn’t cause stress trying to talk over the top, which is sadly the case so often when dining out. Just a little disappointed by the size of the barramundi, as the menu indicated the portion was large, and the asparagus was very thin and overcooked. My girlfriend said the chicken breasts in her salad were overcooked. May I suggest non-dairy dessert option would go a long way. Underwhelming cocktails and overpriced main. The barramundi was well cooked and well accompanied but didn't have enough substance and seemed like it was designed so that you would have to purchase a side to get a full meal. Honestly, at $32 it was already expensive enough without adding a $10 serve of fries... The service was friendly and the location was nice, but overall I don't think I'd come back.

Lovely bar with a great atmosphere and uncomplicated menu. The bar was open on 31st December and served their normal menu without and additional surcharges or packaged deals. Staff here was attentive and friendly. Food arrived on time and was delicious. Seating was available both indoors and outdoors. It is recommended to make a reservation. The men's bathroom was exceptionally clean and was located down the hallway pass the bar on the ground floor. Note: You need to climb a few steps from the street level to get to the cottage bar & kitchen.

Georgina and Osman were great in assisting my with planning for the event and responded to all of my questions promptly. The evening itself was fantastic - everything went off without a hitch, and our guests were raving about the venue and especially the food, which was delicious and plentiful. Ellie took care of us on the night and she was absolutely wonderful - consulting with me all the way through the night while taking such good care of our guests - a real superstar. Having a function at the Cottage exceeded my expectations and I would not hesitate in recommending the Cottage for a birthday party or other special occasion. Thank you so much!

Decided to venture further down darling street . Have been here many times. Cocktails, always good. Food tasted good but not worth the wait. With about 5 tables outside with people, empty inside, it took 45 minutes for a light meal, and another 25 for a glass of wine. While we watched people around us, drink eat and leave we still waited. We assume the waitress forgot as our pizza came about 10 Minutes after we asked what was happening with it.

It has a nice ambiance. The food is delicious. The waitresses are smiling. The prices are ok. But the meals are not serviced as exactly written in the menu. It was written "pecan" for the smokey salad, but it was served with chestnuts. Heirloom tomato salad is served with regular tomato. The entree meals came together with the main menu and the salad. But my overall experience is good.

When we pointed it out then said it was delivered that morning so who knows. Came for dinner on another occasion and they served up questionable oysters. A couple of my dining companions said they tasted rotten. At least they didn't charge us for them.

Really cute atmosphere that mixes a country cottage theme with a modern twist. They have 2 price ranges for shared sets of family-style courses. Our group got the cheaper option of $39/person. It was plenty of food and it had a good range of dish options included. The pulled lamb shoulder with cauliflower was delicious! They also have options to book out different spaces/areas of the restaurant for group functions.

For the hipster yuppie in all of us. The Cottage is a cute restaurant and bar that seems purpose made for Balmain. Constructed in a terrace loft that is of the vernacular of the area with decor that is warm and inviting. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, without being annoying or intrusive and service is quick despite how busy it gets. I once brought my grandparents here (along with the rest of the family) and though they are difficult to impress, they came away feeling very satisfied. We felt very comfortable even with a group of 10 or so. Prices are what you'd expect for the crowd and location ie. a little more than the average, though they are justified. The Cottage offers really good tasting food that's a little left of the fare that you will typically find in such a place. There are delicious vegetarian options (coming from a meat lover) among sweet meats and salads. Being a bar, the drinks selection is very solid. While there are not a wide range of beer and cider options, what is available is fantastic and the same goes for the cocktails. Definitely worth making the trip to Balmain for (in spite of parking), or repeat visits if you live in the area.

When it comes to small bars, I think eclectic, a sense of character and modern menu with rustic if not bold choices. In the heart of Balmain with its village like sense of community, a Cottage with a large front courtyard and oak barrel stands out from the rest. Don’t imagine, there’s nothing like a few drinks under the stars, a place where locals can hang out, have a great meal and enjoy the regular live entertainment for lunch on weekends. The Cottage offers different unique spaces to cater to all moods and sizes. The upstairs is great for dining for larger groups offering great packages for any special occasion. Setup is flexible with vintage lounges for a more casual affair, as well as proper dining for something a little more formal. The two courtyard areas are great for whether you’re catching up with a mate for a quick bite or having a few cocktails! In summer the front courtyard gets packed with people enjoying the sunshine, and in winter head indoors to feel warm and cosy. From the menu I couldn’t resist but to try the stuffed mushrooms with dried fruit, almonds, herbs, barley, capers, Bulgarian fetta served with zucchini puree & pomegranates. Followed by golf-ball sized arancini’s with lemon, mint, pea & haloumi. Take note, we sat indoors by the window and with prying eyes looking to our every meal presented. We knew people had food envy. Several burst of flavours hit us and in such amazement, the chicken breast & wing with rice pilaf, dried fruit, yoghurt, pistachio was the prime favourite. For something a bit quirky and can’t make up your mind on the sweet treats. I recommend giving the fairgound plate a go. The sweet maple candied popcorn, house made orange marshmallows, fairy floss, mini ice-cream cones, mini toffee apples & peanut brittle. Warning: will bring back kept memories of being a child – an explosion of sugar. Lovely terrace to have a summer drink and dinner. The wines are amaizing as wel as the food. We had tasty italian-style pizza (with prosciutto), salmon carpaccio (the original recipe they have -with some grapes, mint and spring onion- definitively worth it !), the roasted cauliflower with pulled lamb (incredible with some cabernet sauvignon) and a cheese plater. We tried the zucchini flower with ricotta as well and it was really tasty. One of my favorite place to have great dinner and chill. Go check it out !!

What do you think of when someone says cottage? The words homely, personal, comfy, fun, relaxed and home cooking come to mind. The Cottage in Balmain is a lot of these things and more. They've got interesting decor that makes you feel at home but in a more fun sort of way. Sit out on the front lawn or inside in a pseudo living room mixed with a bar. Menu items are interesting and a refreshing change from what you would get at your average bar. The braised lamb and cauliflower for example was a pleasant first food us. Come here for a drink and eats and you'll be sure to have a chill night out with a great vibe.

Great frangia-pani tree in the front beer garden with fresh pale ale local beer on draft. The outside bench areas are inviting for people to integrate and dogs are welcome in the front courtyard, The tapas are unique and contemporary and include courgette fried with side order of alioli with paprika. Great on a Sunday afternoon where there is a live duo who play guitar under the tree and provide enjoyment for all visitors to Balmain on Darling Street.

The restaurant set-up is lovely, but, when it comes to the food we were disappointed. We ordered the kingfish, which didn't taste or look fresh and had no flavour other than olive oil and pomegranate seeds (we couldn't finish it). The baked goats cheese was nice, but the sourdough was served cold. The cauliflower had been boiled, which made it soggy, and the underlying baba ganoush didn't add any flavour. The pizza was average and the base seemed store bought vs. homemade. I know this is harsh, but when you're charging that kind of $, I would have expected better quality.
