Comments of The Rook

Cool place for a light meal and drinks.
Came here for lunch and drinks on a Saturday noon, staff was super friendly and everything we ordered was good, especially the cocktails.
We shared fish tacos, arancini and ravioli, all were well executed and flavourful
B. D.
Super trendy rooftop bar with a vibrant feel and clientele to match. Not a place to go to for a quiet relaxing drink, but if you want something fun and hip this is a good place to be. Food is quite good - especially the Arancini, wagyu burger, and lobster roll. Drinks aren't bad but not mind blowing either, also a little pricey. Staff are super attentive and absolutely lovely. The coolest part is the fact you don't even know it's there, you basically walk in to a little old office lobby and catch the lift to the roof.

Wonderful and friendly staff! Nicole was super accommodating in seating us when we didn’t have a booking! Lovely vibe inside! We ordered through an app and drinks showed up super speedy but both cocktails (Long Island and Whisky Sour) were a bit underwhelming and quickly got diluted by the ice stack! We got their signature lobster roll, fried chicken bites and duck tostada and truffle fries. Fries were the best! Tostada and fried chicken bites were over-seasoned. Lobster were a bit toothsome (not in a nice way, sinew/connective tissue still attached to the flesh). Manage the hype and expectations! Bathrooms need attention 🙊

Thia is one of my favourite rooftops in Sydney. Super chilled. Not pretentious. Just friendly staff good drinks list and great food menu.
The burgers are really good. I really enjoyed being able to order via the QR code at the table.
R. A.
Absolutely awesome food, cocktails and service! Being able to order and pay with your phone direct from your table is excellent and more places need to do this! Will absolutely be returning. Can’t rate this place highly enough.
D. M.
For a delicious burger and drink in the city over lunch, we caught up at the Rook as a group of friends. Easy ordering system with QR code’s at the table for drinks and food. The burger was absolutely loaded with perfectly cooked patty
E. N.
Was planning to go for their lobster dishes but when we arrive, the menu was totally different due to COVID-19. Would hope to get a real-time menu next time. Everything else was great, contact-less order. Scan the QR code, order & pay from mobile. Great vibe, there’s a outdoor smoking area.

Came on a Monday dinner. The bar is actually rather hard to find from the roadside until you notice the name on the internal building's floor directory board. Was looking forward to the Lobster roll but was sold out. Truffle fries is a must-try, battered in truffle oil for the taste, though not oily at all, and generous sprinkle of truffle flakes. Cocktail Lost In Paradise was a beauty too, a steal at it's promotional $11. Wagyu burger was average, decent meat thickness though cooked at Medium, and unfortunately with the truffle fries on the table, the regular fries was meh. Used my $25 Dine voucher and the rezzy gave me another $25 off. Best $3 spent for a good meal out.

Been twice now.
Cocktails are well worth a pop.
Never had Caprese salad with crumbed tomatoes till now - left wanting more.
Lobster roll was great at half price but unsure we would return for full price.
Arancinis and popcorn chicken also nicely executed.
A. W.
We had such a great experience, the atmosphere was so nice and the service was so fast! Love this place. Perfect for a group dinner and drinks.
M. P.
Such a great atmosphere! And finally after getting my freedom back was able to enjoy the most perfectly oysters 🥰 and delicious cocktails. Would totally recommend to friends and family if you’re looking for a relaxing outdoor venue !

(3.5 stars)
Epic work week. First full week back in the CBD office since March 2020. Smashed some cocktails—a pleasantly minty Summer Negroni ($21) or two, and a Markers Mark Old Fashioned ($22)—with the work family. A quartet of scallops ($21) served on the shell with a smear of romesco butter (not the best combination I’ve encountered) helped me not get messy before I poured myself into an Uber and got home in time for tea. With The Rook mere metres from my office, I guess there are some advantages to being back in the CBD.
R. J.
This hidden gem located above the heart of the CBD couldn't be more convenient.
The team were welcoming, organised and friendly.
Great Bar staff and drinks menu topped off with good quality food. made for a great night out. I kook forward to returning in the near future.
R. B.
I normally don't write reviews but I was so impressed with the Rook that I thought I should! It was my partner's 30th this Monday which we celebrated at the Rook. The food, drink and service was amazing. All food was delicious and came out incredibly fast and the staff were really friendly. They currently have an order at the table QR code which worked perfectly for split bills, particularly because we had a large group. We also really appreciated the staff's adherence to the COVID-19 safety measures, they were properly wearing masks the whole time and ensured we checked in on arrival.
S. J.
Awesome vibe, great food & drink and service too. We were looked after by Nicole and she was fantastic. So attentive and personable. Really helped make the night a great one from the moment we arrived
V. M.
Good service and quick to serve food. I would recommend one of the seafood dishes as the burgers and salads didn't feel up to par. The chorizo and prawn pasta was bowl-licking delicious; we found ourselves using chips to finish the sauce!
The Caesar salad was quite basic though still filling.
Wasn't a fan of the 10 pages of drinks before the food on the menu.
K. “. Y.
Appetisers are generally above average. However, truffle and lobster menu items a suspiciously low on truffle and lobster. For example... lobster cheese sandwiches just tasted like cheese melts . Some of the menu items, such as "over the top", are way overpriced and low quality, substituting quantity of good things in excess in a "epic mealtime fashion" without really thinking about how it tastes together. Excellent onion rings and other deep fried goodies, but about double the price that it needs to be.
Service was a bit snobby.
G. B.
We had an amazing night here celebrating a friend's birthday - great food and cocktails. Our attendant Nicole went above and beyond to ensure everyone was having a good time and provided impeccable service - a true queen!
B. K.
I'll preface by saying there was nothing wrong with my experience here, service fine, food fresh drinks good and cold location super chill. The food just isn't to my taste.
Overall I was pretty underwhelmed by the flavours across the arancini balls, and the lobster roll. The mushroom burger was done well and probably the tastiest of the lot. Onion rings were also moreish; savoury and nicely fried, perfect with a cold beer.
As I said location is chilled and. I enjoyed the atmosphere but as said previously underwhelming.
Worth checking out to be fair and making your own judgement =)
Edit: I also came here last Saturday for a friend's Bday.. Espresso Martinis are worth a go :D especially at happy hours Prices ($12) . with the onion rings of course XD
N. N.
Great music and awesome service! Definitely something to checkout if you are in Sydney and going ro a rooftop bar!
B. J.
Such a cool hidden bar. Drinks and food were delicious. Thank you to Nicole for the great service provided on the evening.
C. A.
Excellent dinner and drinks location with a warm pub atmosphere, wife and I grabbed two appetisers, two mains and two drinks and we're satisfied. Only weakness was the size of the appetisers based on their price, just a little bit bigger and they would have been worth it as they were delicious, would definitely come again!
C. C.
A hidden little gem. Doesn’t look like much from the foyer before you go up in the lift, but opens up into a funky rooftop space. Might want to avoid on a particularly hot day as the sun is directly on some of the tables and they only have fans, no aircon.
The burgers are great, if you have maple bacon make sure you ask for it crispy as mine was under. Friend had the spicy mother clucker burger and I had food envy, looked awesome. Other friend had the lobster roll which he said was tasty but didn’t have enough lobster to other fillings ratio. Onion rings nice and crunchy. Great service and a good cocktail list.
E. N.
wow! Our 1st girls catch up , post lockdown, was made so easy by the lovely Nicole. She was warm, attentive and very helpful in accommodating us last minute. The Rook team should be very thankful they have Nicole!
E. v. W.
Writing this review from the hotel, since they kindly asked us to provide one. Yet the restaurant does not provide WiFi access to guests, which , coming from Europe, was a bit disappointing after just arriving in the city after a long flight from Singapore. They really know how to make their cocktails. The chicken burger was a bit simple, yet tasty. Excellent fries! Lovely young vibe.
BTW: it is a rooftop bar, but the view is only upwards, to the sky.
N. C.
Absolutely amazing experience. I would definitely recommend The Rook to anyone looking for a lovely night out. Made for the perfect place to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Timmy and Josh were absolutely amazing behind the bar. I wanted something non-alcoholic and Timmy whipped me up the best mocktail! They even made a special cocktail for the birthday girl! They made the night super special and because of it I’ll definitely be back again. Great food too!! Just all round good vibes and a great time!!
R. B.
Best service I’ve received at a bar! Nicole has 10/10 customer service, shes an asset to The Rook. Great cocktails and atmosphere
R. S.
Had the barley risotto, which was delicious. Previous reviews about lobster no longer apply as this establishment has undergone a major renovation and has a new menu. This place is more of an upscale cocktail bar that serves food on the side. It's on a rooftop but doesn't offer views, other than of the walls of neighboring highrises.
N. C.
Such a cool city rooftop Vibe! Come and enjoy a drink at happy hour 4 - 6pm in this hidden bar. Entry via street and catch lift to the roof to enjoy a secluded venue. Lots of bar food specialising in Lobster dishes.
R. M.
Super location and atmosphere for a city restaurant with friendly staff. Overall the rook is a great place but I think the prices are steep in comparison to the burger 🍔 portion sizes. Other than that I'd definitely recommend the rook for a meal with colleagues or friends
R. B.
. Great place 👍
Great cocktails and atmosphere
Food......not really ..
I don't know how to say. I think like McDonald's trying to be bistro..
But on end good experience..
M.
Big open area and great joint if you hanging out with friends. We only had drinks here and they were ok.
J. A.
had a great function at the rook, great staff all around and super friendly
shout out to KT and Nicole who were exception members of the team with outstanding service the whole night
cannot wait to go back!
P. B.
A hidden gem in heart of Sydney CBD. They have a pretty cool roof-top dining environment. The employees were friendly. Service was quick for such a busy environment. Food was also very yummy. Just couple of things that didn't allow me to give a 5 star is the serving size - as I expected for the price I am paying the serving size would be more than what we got or we can also say cost is bit high for food and drinks both. Secondly, they don't have a lot of choices for food so you can check the menu before you go.
R. M.
Celebrated my sister's engagement here about 2 weeks ago and could not be happier. A big thank you to Nicole for being so accomodating of our group - Can't wait to come back!
J. N.
Nice hidden spot for drinks and snacks. Customer service was exceptional! Theres a bar area and dining area, suitable for all purposes! Wasn’t too busy on a Saturday evening (6:30-8)and we didn’t need a booking for 2.
S. K.
Such a great atmosphere and Nicole was so lovely! She definitely added to the experience and was so sweet with great hospitality skills.
J. S.
Cool atmosphere. Rooftop bar. Short menu. Nice drinks
D. B.
Amazing venue and amazing staff, Nicole at the door was awesome, she made sure everything was perfect, drinks were made perfectly and the food was amazing 10/10 guys best place in Sydney for a good chilled night out
h.
Nice little hidden away place. Well furnished with good atmosphere.
But... the lobster melt was terrible. Paid $19 for a disappointing sandwich. The cheese was really really bland, and I couldn’t taste the lobster. The bread was just plain sliced bread. The kind you get in a plastic bag from Coles.
Don’t get the lobster melt.
D. P.
This is the third time that we have visited The Rook for a birthday celebration (becoming somewhat of a tradition) however this experience left a little more to be desired. Firstly, the food menu had changed since our last visit and lot of our favourites weren't available (scallops, lobster rolls, prawns). Secondly, not once in my life have I ever visited a bar that was unable to make mocktails on request. When I asked, even our server insisted there were mocktails on the menu and told me I didn't look in the correct section. However, after going through each page on my phone with her, she asked the bar staff and came back saying they no longer did them. Lastly, despite explicitly noting that our visit was for a birthday when the phone booking was made, there was no mention/acknowledgement of it when we visited. That being said, the cocktails were VERY nice and the service was good. We will definitely be back for casual visits however we'll probably save special occasions for someplace else.
M. G.
Nice quirky small bar, drinks quite priced though
C. B.
Nicole went above and beyond for our group and we had the best experience at The Rook! Would recommend!
S. S.
Decent food, unique and delicious cocktails topped off with a simple yet amazing atmosphere. Perfect for after work events, get togethers and dinner before a night out.
K. P.
Don't use their "Mr Yum" app to order! We were billed through the app, but the order never went through, then we were billed again at the bar, so we ended up being double charged. Because one charge went to the app, and one went to the bar, I can't get a refund.
I did reach out as recommended below by Rory, and the erroneous amount was refunded without fuss. So I guess to the real review. Their Truffle fries are to die for! Had to get that out of the way first. They get the right balance with parmesian cheese to get enough flavour without overpowering crisp fries and sharp cheesy flavour. I had the burger, which was also above average.
It is a rooftop bar, but it's not fully open, they have a sliding cover over the area, and it was open the night we were there. I see other reviews were disappointed when it was closed, or were expecting something different. The atmosphere did feel a little cramped and dingy, which is the only down side I had. But they did have a couple large groups there, who were moving tables around, so who knows what it's normally like.
Overall an enjoyable night, and they fixed their mistake quickly and without objection, so kudos to them.
J. Q.
Only came here very briefly for an event, so I can’t comment much on food and drinks (the group left shortly after to go somewhere else).
What I can say is that the service here was pretty good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The area itself was decently presented. There was the outdoorish (but under cover) area just adjacent to the indoor area with the bar. The place was pretty small and dark which wasn’t what I expected, but it had a nice atmosphere.
One thing I’d say is that it was relatively hard to find the place. There is no real signage outside the building to indicate which one it is so you really need to read the address and find that specific building (which looks like an office building), then go in and take the lift up.
A. B.
Great for drinks with friends. Variety of tea and good burgers. I also recommend the risotto so good!
P. J.
Really food and drinks, great service on Saturday night by Nicole! Would highly recommend
J. A.
A very nice venue hidden away on the rooftop in York St. The entrance out of the lifts is reminiscent of a walk into Alice in Wonderland. Service was prompt and very efficient. The menu is standard pub fare, but of very good quality apart from the meat and cheese platter which was slightly disappointing and overpriced. Having said that it is a nice place to meet for quick meal before heading off for the evening.
D. R. L.
Fantastic cool vibe with many a great cocktail to be enjoyed. Love the lobster rolls. Another fantastic hidden away, late night haunt. Great atmosphere.
J. J.
Came here for a Saturday night birthday.
Food was pretty good and came quite quickly for such a busy night, service is awesome and cocktails are baller.
Bonus: very structurally sound pickles, make excellent pickle men for all the single ladies, or anyone real lonely and seeking a perishable friend.
L. M.
Great atmosphere, great drinks, good company! Waitresses very friendly especially Nicole! 😀
d. v.
Chance to catch up with old friends for a drink and light meal. First time here. Street entrance bit deceptive as feels like just entering an office tower. Take the lift to level R and things change as it opens out into a nice bar and open area for dining. Good music in background attentive staff and nice food and beverages.
S. S.
Hard to find, walked past it multiple times. The cocktails are $$ it was sad that one of the cocktails we ordered didn't have any of the garnish like the photo on the menu. Place was really busy, the bar tenders never seemed to stop shaking and stirring, it was interesting to watch.
A. L.
A great little rooftop bar in the CBD. Happily a 'hard to find', making it a destination rather than a stumble upon bar 👍the big fans were very welcome in the humidity.
Good range of burgers and very tasty seasoned fries. The Beyond Beef burger was great, with a sesame bun and option to make vegan.
More canned beer than tap (just 2 tap beers) but otherwise good range of wine and cocktails.
C. G.
Cute little hidden rooftop bar in the heart of the CBD. Perfect for a little lunch getaway to get out of the office if you work in the city, the burgers are absolutely amazing. At night, it transforms into a cosy cocktail bar with knowledgeable bartenders who know how to make a great cocktail.
T. V.
The Sunday menu is limited, so might be a good idea to call ahead if you are planning on going to eat here on a Sunday and want certain menu items. My partner and I went on this past Sunday and they didn't have either item we were planning on getting, so I originally posted a review about my disappointment. It's still disappointing of course, however Ryan at The Rook took the time to talk to me about the circumstances and explained how the website worked, and the customer service he provided was excellent. Since I can't review the food, the only thing I can review is customer service, which, again, was excellent!
C. S.
Excellent service - beauty hidden gem of a rooftop with yummy food & good drink options.
K. P.
Pretty good lobster roll and decent amount of lobster for the price.
R.
Great vibe but hard to find.
We went after work and luckily they had a table during happy hour. The food was standard but delicious bar food (a little expensive) and the drinks weren't bad either!
I think we'll be back for sure.
J. K.
I dont even have the words to describe how nice this rooftop bar is! I came here last night with my s/o in celebrating his birthday, and we were both thoroughly impressed with the quality of the service, the food and the cocktails. The scallops in particular were FANTASTIC!! We will definitely be back again soon. Thank you The Rook! 💕
N. S.
The venue itself was a bit hard to find since it's located within an unknown building into an elevator. The dish variety was a bit lacking with only 4/5 main dishes on the menu, the aesthetic appeal was however appealing with a change of theme happening often along with a matching menu. Drinks were great all though.
R. C.
The service was very impressive. Staff were super friendly and efficient. Thank you to Mayble and Tim for making our experience at The Rook a memorable one for my partner and I. Food was so yummy, I was so full...I will definitely be back!
S. B.
Was looking to enjoy a gin cocktail with some colleagues on a day off. Stumbled on the Rook and couldn’t have been happier. Great drinks, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Another review mentioned a limited menu, but everything was on when we arrived. We’ll be back
s. s.
Just amazing! The atmosphere was buzzing, the layout was gorgeous, and the staff were simply wonderful. Special thanks to Jenna for showing us a great time - so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating to our requests. Will be back very soon - thanks team :)
K. N.
I went here for the bottomless dumplings with bottomless beer or wine for $59 deal. The amount you got in 2 hours was great value for the price. I really enjoyed the overall experience and the atmosphere of the place. The staff were also very nice and helpful. I liked the steamed greens. However the dumplings mostly had to be ordered fried which is disappointing as having so many fried was quite heavy and sickly after a while. The fried dumplings also came with a coating of salt which I found a bit unpleasant at times. Would love to go again if given the option of having everything steamed.
B. E.
Had an absolutely fantastic dining experience here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The food was amazing. Was not one thing we didn’t like. All of it was really really good. Also. Round of applause to the cocktail makers and service staff. We had a great customer experience thanks to our gracious wait staff. And big thanks to the manager, Ryan! We’re coming back again, for sure.
D. P.
We visited The Rook on a Friday night and had a great experience. They were operating on a reduced menu at the time but the food and cocktails were amazing. The atmosphere was really nice (especially with the cherry blossom theme) and the staff were very friendly. We'll definitely be returning later to try the full menu.
N.
Meh, the menu has changed for the worse and the beer selection greatly diminished. The place feels like a shadow of its former glory
C. C.
We had a wonderful dinner here with friends. The cherry blossom theme was really well done. Great music and atmosphere. The staff, particularly Ryan, Caitlin and Josh were super helpful. We also loved that you can order and pay from your phone. Highly recommend!
R. W.
Good food and great vibes, though limited vegan options on the menu. May be better during non peak period or if able to ask for alterations.
E. M.
The food was great. Don’t know what the point of having staff other than the bartender was for as they go “ once you’re signed in the menus on the app”
The staff looked like they all hated their jobs. The bartender looked as if it was a massive inconvenience for her two make two cocktails. Not one person asked how the food was or if we needed anything. God forbid I order a drink through staff. ONLINE ONLY! Thank you for walking 5m to run my food 🤣
A. B.
This was a well decorated restaurant that had a really nice atmosphere. Unfortunately as the restaurant is solely order online, orders were confused. As a group we ordered separately using the same table number, however only one ordered the cheeseboard as the appetiser. This cheeseboard was brought out after all the mains were sent out meaning by the time we had finished the appetiser our mains had gotten cold. I think staff should come and check with guests the order they would like their food to come out. Overall the location was great and enjoyed the atmosphere just needs to improve its organisation.
V. P.
Great atmosphere and even better service! We were served by Caitlin and Ryan, who were super accommodating and lovely. Everyone that served us was friendly and service was very efficient. Loved the cherry blossom theme and really enjoyed our food and drinks. Thanks guys for the great dining experience we will definitely be back!!
D. I.
The food and the service was amazing . My friends and I were stuck on where to go get some casual drinks on a Tuesday night and found that The Rook ticked all the boxes. Cocktails were great and the fried chicken bites hit the spot. Would recommend highly
c. m.
Great burgers.. great service although the menu said truffle fries but they end up being chunky chips.. a big dissapointed.
P. J.
Was there for a work lunch. Had the prawn and chorizo fettuccini, which for the price was a very small serving. Nice rooftop location and attentive staff. Overall not bad, but the small serving really put me off.
J. S.
Friendly staff, good burgers, the crab bites were a little underwhelming but that might've been because I'd just had a burger and fries 😏
N.
Take the lift to level 7 and it’s definitely not what you expect. I don’t know if it’s just me but The Rook’s got a beach vibe to it. It’s very spacious and we got a table really fast. The drinks are reasonably priced. We had the cheese and meat platter which was sufficient for the 4 of us as we were not hungry. Loved the place and I’ll be going back!
C. W.
Came here for some casual drinks before heading to and event and was thrilled with the service, food and drinks. Would recommend for a casual dinner in the CBD (hard to come by). Order a few Tommy’s and enjoy the sun go down through the open roof and the when the breeze hits!
p. a.
This place is definitely all stars because I totally loved it peeps!! They have an amazing rooftop space which is so good to enjoy your summer drinks and the food is so yum as well. I went on a Friday afternoon with my work colleagues and we had reserved a spot as we didn’t want to compromise with our roof top space of course. The staff were so friendly and helpful. There was no pasta in the menu and I felt like one so the staff happily agreed to get me one that too a vego one! How good is that, you will definitely love the place. Highly recommended.
T. M.
An amazing hidden Sydney gem offering great ambience and atmosphere. A must visit
S. D.
What a great roof top bar, the staff are excellent and can make a mean cocktail, we loved it. The food is fresh and hot with great snacks to accompany those incredible drinks. A great way to spend a hot summer Saturday afternoon...... and evening. Don't go past it.
a. l.
Hidden gem, nice atmosphere, great food
E. S.
Went for the all you can eat dumpling package + the dumplings. The staff were very accommodating and nice to interact with. the food was incredible and free flowing. Good drink choices.
E. S.
My friends and I had a really great time here for a recent event. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food included in the set menu (always skepital when it says 'canapes'!!) and it was all delicious! The manager, Ryan, was extremely accomodating and level of customer service was amazing. Would not hestitate to book again for future events!
S. O.
Best experience. Looked after wonderfully. Went there for the cherry blossom theme and had so many photo opportunities. The food was great and Ryan and Kaitlyn couldn't be nicer more accommodating hosts x will be returning for the next theme!!! Xo
J. B.
Really cool spot, blink and you miss it entrance. Playing good music and super friendly staff. Drinks were good but not so good value for money
G. D.
Nice rooftop area that is partly open. It's fairly small and often busy so the queue at the bar can often be a bit lengthy. Some of the food seems overly expensive for fairly small portions but the quality is good. Drinks are a similar deal. Would be nice if they could reorganise the space a little to make the bar a bit more accessible.
S. H.
Popped in for a quick post-work couple of beers.
Service was very friendly, prices were good, and we also had some croquettes. Wow, they were yummy!
The atmosphere was pretty laid back, and cool without trying too hard.
Will definitely be back.
S. R.
Food was really nice. Not spectacular to the relation to price. Though, it was really nice... staff not attentive other than the (presumed) manager who was. Server was great, initial host to table was below a average in the way that one glass on table for water for myself and my partner and it took over twice to ask to get one other.
Would be a 3 star if were not be the manager and food quality
Would recommend a try
N. W.
The food was a-okay. My lobster three cheeses pasta was bland and rather tasteless - wasn't worth the $20++ price point. Atmosphere was A+, the rooftop view with open ceilings was a nice touch. Great for having drinks with family and friends. Definitely a casual place great for chilling and hanging out.
J. M.
Great place, we actually entertain guests their on several occasions.
Very Quirky, but relaxed, nice food, and drinks. However on this one occasion last month as we collecting our drinks at the bar and my guest and i were discussing the government, one of the barman wanted to interupt and join our conversation, & interject his political opinion, whilst i was speaking to a guests of ours, it was not professional and was a bad look to our overseas guests. Please keep up the standards we are use too! Other than that Great place. that would normally get a 5 star.
K. P.
A hidden gem with delicious food, I recommend the lobster roll

Chance to catch up with old friends for a drink and light meal. First time here. Street entrance bit deceptive as feels like just entering an office tower. Take the lift to level R and things change as it opens out into a nice bar and open area for dining. Good music in background attentive staff and nice food and beverages. Good for a post work catch up and perfect for a lazy summer night.

I recently came to Rook for a meal and cocktails and was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service and quality of food. I was astounded by the professional,
friendly and very attentive service. The English lady who served us was particularly lovely and welcoming. Thank you for a great evening, one I will recommend to all my friends, look forward to seeing you again soon.
P. D.
Great location, but a little difficult finding it especially being my first time. Service was really slow! But, they com0ensated with their friendliness and food.
I didn't get to try the lobster, but the overall quality was great! I will edit my post with the food I tried later.
The roof opens at night when it's a warm night. It is not an open rooftop either. Great spacing, but looks better in the photos. Cool vibe to bring a date or a group
Food: 9 out of 10
Location: 10 out of 10
Service: 8 out of 10
Ambiance: 8 out of 10

We had a great time at The Rook recently. It has gone up a notch since I was last there and it shows. The staff were really attentive and the food was delicious and very generous. My Lobster Caesar, Nachos and HUGE banoffee pie were all impressive!
The Rook has a lot of things going for it - a cool, fun venue with a great vibe, good service and an original menu. Most importantly, food was top notch. Such a unique concept to be able to eat lobster without breaking the bank!
A. T.
Have been here a couple of times. Great for after work drinks and a lobster feast. If you haven’t given it a go, I’d recommend. It’s also hard to find from the street, but you’ll get there traveler.
D. P.
Fantastic location on the top of a tower block with minimal views. Great selection of gin cocktails and artisan beers. Lobster burger is delicious and try any of the truffle dishes. Only snag is that they have a very small venue so the queue to get in can be long.
S. H.
Great hidden rooftop bar with great lobster rolls!
A. L.
Had a function here for 50+ people on Saturday. It was a blast! Staff were really accommodating and we were all well looked after (I think our host's name was (or rhymed with) Devon, she was amazing!). Great bar, with engaged bar staff and a cool vibe all round.
A. P.
A lovely hidden gem in the city with rooftop dining.
Lobster roll was great, I've also had the truffle fries and lobster spaghetti, and it's all delicious. The service was quick and attentive. Good prices for higher end dishes in the city.
T. M.
The rook were so incredibly lovely and completely covid safe. We were greeted with such amazing staff and the service was some of the best. Thank you, The Rook for making our rare night out so memorable!
M. W.
Nice rooftop bar, great cocktails for $18-25 with a good snack menu and table service.
G. T.
Mediocre service, so so food, utilizing lots of SALTs!!! (6/10) will not come back
T. W. F.
The Rook holds both a restaurant and a cocktail bar, separated in two areas.
Cocktails are excellent and the presentation is on point. Food is also very good, many lobster-based dishes and burgers.
Great atmosphere and nice service.
There is no sign to indicate it from the street and it looks like an office entrance. You can book or just drop by as they have plenty of space for walk-ins and you drink a cocktail after putting your name on the wait list.
r. b.
Really nice location and great service! Ryan was an absolute pleasure and the drinks were expertly made. I highly recommend this place for chill summer afternoon drinks and a great start to a night!
D. K.
Top banana experience! The staff were amazing, the food was great and the drinks were three bomb! Give Ryan a thumbs up because he's a special guy who made it more than just an experience, but a memory!
E. D.
The Rook is an awesome venue. Staff really welcoming & great friendly service. Some of the best cocktails & food was delicious. The Rook has a great atmosphere & I’ll returning next time I’m up in Sydney.
G.
Average indoor place with partly open roof - not a real rooftop bar. Cocktail was just ice, food was average.
( Didn’t try lobster but seems like that’s their signature)
c. c.
It was very nice ambient, with good drink and service. The only problem was that after the burgers and snacks we felt a little too heavy for the stomach. So I recommend this place but don't expect a light meal in your night time!
K. G.
Nice bar above the city, happy hour till 7pm. Mostly frequented by the over 30's.
E. K.
Didn't know this place existed, you need to take the elevator to level R to get there and the entrance on the ground floor makes you check your location twice as it looks like a normal office lobby. Went there with work mates and the food was delicious. We got the Uncle Sam burger and loved the truffle fries. We drank plenty of the Endeavour Vintage Reserve Amber Ale and on the recommendation of the staff did a tequila shot. It was a great Friday lunch, though I would recommend looking a reservation as the place was quite busy. Also, love the decor of the place.
P. S.
Excellent bar, friendly staff, a little hard to find 👍
S. L.
This is a really cool bar in Sydneys CBD with amazing food to go with it. If you like gin this is the place to go. The staff are so lovely and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. After a few drinks in the bar we were seated in the restaurant with ease.We decided to get things to share. We really enjoyed the Risotto and also the pasta dish. Will be returning with visiting friends very soon.
K. E.
Had drinks and dinner at The Rook last night with my wife, and we both loved it! The menu has a lot of fun takes on traditional menu options, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Word of warning for anyone ordering the amazing Banoffee Pie for dessert, it can easily serve two - and even then we couldn't finish it between the two of us, despite being very keen to try. We'll definitely be back!
t. b.
Beautiful atmosphere! Delicious and reasonably priced cocktails and the amazing bartender Rory absolutely MADE my birthday 😊
C. B.
Great vibe, both relaxing and easy central location! Rory is a top cocktail maker!! 🍹 Highly recommended xo
P. H.
Cool little spot for a midweek burger or drinks after work. Can get a little hectic in peak times and the wait for a lift up can get frustrating. But head there when it's a little quieter and it's a pleasant place to hang out. When the sun's out and the roof is open it doesn't get any better.
J. C.
Chicken burger was one of the best I had. This place is a bit hard to find.... The entrance is a nondescript hallway in between businesses that leads to an elevator. take the elevator up and you're good. Cool "rooftop" restaurant bar. Ill def be back.
c. m.
An excellent restaurant and bar with good meals, especially the lobster. The selection of drinks is large and international. Nice and bit fancy atmosphere, unfortunately a bit chilly when it’s cold outside. And you have to find the entrance which is hidden in a small corridor where you have to take the elevator to the 7th floor.
A. C.
The Lobster roll could have been more tastier ...lack of taste. Need better garnish. Lobster Nachos , well I have counted like 20 beans and maybe 2 big spoon of guacamole...can do a bit better and it won't cost much more. Great area though...
D. S.
Great place, great atmosphere and cocktails. Only one thing let our experience down, we asked for a table for 2 for dinner and we're told that they had a large party coming in so couldn't fit us in but we could sit in the bar area order from the bar instead off the same menu. So we sat in the bar area ordered food and had a few drinks, we were there at least 2 hours and the whole time there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant area, and also people
Coming in after us and being seated straight away, so we were a bit put out by him saying no.
A. W.
I'm writing this review while still at the table about to order more. The Lobster Tacos are without a doubt the best tacos i have ever had in my life. That isn't hyperbole. I am genuine. The tortilla was delightful and held the mixture of slaw/sauce/lobster together perfectly and without mess. The vibe here is lovely and my Negroni was made very well with fancy custom ice balls. Well done!
L. Y.
Hello, I would just like to give you guys a pat on the back for your outstanding establishment... what a great place you have.
The food was amazing and the service was just a big "WOW". There was a young man that was serving our table and I think his name was Yudha, (is that how you would spell it?)
What a beautiful young man he was, he was pleasant, a huge smile and made our visit there extra special... keep up the great work guys...
M. S.
Had a lovely experience at The Rook. We were celebrating a friends birthday and the environment and Jimmy our waiter were super friendly.
R. W.
Staff were lovely and attentive, we got a beverage package and the staff came with refilled drinks without even needing to ask and the food came quickly and tasted really good. They even refilled our water for us when they noticed it getting low.
K. A.
Went here for a friend's birthday party on a Friday night - glad we made reservations because it was PACKED right after work! The ambiance was a bit louder than preferred - music was blaring and it was just really hard to hear. The food was really lovely though! I highly recommend the Hawaiian burger, the lobster, the haloumi burger and the lobster gnocchi. Drinks were good but a bit pricey ($20 cocktails typically). Service was EXCELLENT! The girls that waited on us were really great - kept our drinks full and made sure we were taken care of. Best service I've ever received in Sydney.
R. c.
Food is good but cocktails is not
Too noisy
K. Q.
Really liked this hidden rooftop bar where we ended up for a couple of drinks on a Saturday night. The place was buzzing but not packed and the service was very prompt and friendly. I loved the 80s music and the fact that they bring you tap water without asking. Too bad we had just had dinner because all of the food that we saw going to other tables looked delish! I'll have to be back to try some of those lobster dishes and the burgers sometime.
R. S. (. H. V.
A spot with this kind of small bar rooftop ambience & feeling is rarely found in Sydney CBD. The gin selection is outstanding and the staff took the time to be friendly and welcoming even when it was very busy. A great hidden spot that I hope doesn’t blow up too much because you want to keep it to yourself. I
g. h.
Beautiful Negronis. Wasn’t really a fan of the lobster roll: too much sauce and not nearly enough lobster.
K. L.
Great decor and good vibes during the daytime with the natural light. Excellent food though a little pricey for the serves. Loved ordering through the phone and the service was not found lacking.
I. H.
Cool spot in the middle of the CBD. Lobster burger super yum. Great service - staff seem to genuinely want to make sure you have a great time. Definitely coming back for Friday drinks soon.
M. B.
Great small bar with a great vibe.
There is a restaurant next door which I haven't tried so I can't speak for the food but the menu looked tasty.
The bar is on the left side with limited seating, if you come in a large group then be prepared for most of them to be standing.
Drinks are priced (I alternated between whisky sours and old fashioneds) and they will cater if you have particular requests.
It would be best to get in early to grab a table before it becomes too packed.
D. H.
Great cozy place, and surprisingly fast service, worth going and normal prices for cocktails in sydney
J. W.
Cocktail was great, burgers were good (pricey for the size and quality, had better else where). Salads were average. Atmosphere were great, good for fun night with friends. Look I was here on a Monday night, there were a few mistake on our order and drinks, maybe you will have a better experience on another night/weekend.
S.
Great music , delicious food and an atmosphere that makes it all the more better. Will be returning when I visit Sydney again !
A. W.
Had a great time at the Rook, even during covid times! Fun, safe, good food and friendly staff. The lobster roll was delicious.
P. C.
Yuda is absolutely very kind, we went there without booking a table but he told me to have a drink while we were waiting. Before that, a girl told us if there wasn’t space for us because of fully booked and she didn’t give us any solution, but Yuda helped us to get a table. And also we love the lobster roll. We will come back soon !
P. H.
This is actually a nice hipster place but the service is slow even on Tuesday night. Need to say that I was disappointed with their lobster roll. It was mainly potato salad with tiny bits of lobster. If you really want to taste the meat try some of their burgers instead of the lobster roll.
A. H.
A hidden gem in the city. It's not the kind of venue you find easily, but once you get there, the ambiance makes you stay. Live music , old fashioned and truffle chups makes is my favorite combo. I'll definitely come back more often in summer as it is a rooftop.
A. D. (.
This is a great bar and restaurant. Cocktails are very pricey about $20 but they are made perfectly. This a Gin bar and ever 2nd Monday of the month they do a event called the juniper society where you get to try out a Gin and get to hear of it origins.
The Food is top notch they make truffle fries...This is a new level of good. Burgers are great and the deep fried mars bar is heaven.
E. T.
We had a wonderful time there on Friday night. We rocked up unannounced and although it was busy, the staff went out of their way to find an area for 20 of us for my work farewell. The food and drinks were great and the staff were friendly. Thank you for a great night!
A. S.
Had the Lux Burger - a beef patry in a crispy kreme donut bun! It was a special they were trying and well worth the experience. I appreciate restaurants that try new things and put effort into being creative. Server was nice - atmosphere was great. Loved it.
S. C.
Great atmosphere for a Friday and generous portions for cocktails. We were moved to another table to accomodate a large group and offered a complimentary shot of tequila as compensation. This was great until the waiter then subsequently refused us service for no apparent reason. A disappointing end to a great night.
h. q.
What a spot. Hidden on the top floor of this office building lies a great oasis with excellent table service, good selection of drinks and a lobster roll that is to die for!!
F. K.
Nice atmosphere, with interesting food. Wagyu burger was soft and delicious, with truffle fries that were fragrant and perfectly fried. Lobster roll was a little disappointing, as the lobster was mostly overshadowed by mayonnaise and salad. Interesting gin and tonics, which are infused with other flavors - mine was with apricot, almond, and something else. Would have been nice to have a bit of citrus with it, but quite good overall.
A. T.
Came for a pre drink and stayed for the service. Ryan was super helpful with the menu and the food was exquisite! Perfect venu for that golden hour with an open rooftop
A. S. (.
Lovely rooftop bar in the heart of the city.
It's a great place to go with some friends after work for a couple of mixed cocktails. I really enjoyed the Alice in Wonderland inspired drink they had on offer. It was really cute!
M. C.
Until one year ago I used to go quite often to this "secret" pub and I loved it. I did go back last night, and to my surprise it fancied up a lot since my last visit. Don't mistake me, food and service are good, but 40 bucks for a burger and a beer (bottles only....) is a bit of a rip off.
B. A.
Oh my the Lobster Roll is a must!!! Delicious food and cocktails. Good idea to book as not a very large venue and it's extremely popular.
D. T.
Perfect for post covid catch up with mates. The reservation was seamless. All orders are made contactless. The cherry blossom theme looks amazing and the food is really tasty.
A. O.
Lovely rooftop spot, with a great menu.
C. W.
Fun, cool, tasty, boozy. It gets too loud, but apart from that it is spot on. Great burgers and related food (fried pickles!!), Tasty cocktails, and a good atmosphere. Not cheap, but consistently fun.
T.
I've been here a few times now and it doesn't disappoint. Such a great spot hidden away from the rest of the city. Food is great, drinks are great and service is always lovely. I recommend the lobster roll and prawn & mango salad.. Delicious!
B. B. (.
Nice vibe, lift was broken when arrived on a Friday but fixed before I left. They gave us free drinks for walking up the stairs ^^ they have hanging chairs and more areas for relaxing and having a conversation, they're not blasting music which is a positive for me :)
A. N.
No doubt that this place is a great cocktail bar, that's why it's always packed on Friday night. Apart from common bar food like chips and burgers, they add lobsters to the dish which makes them different from others. However, I think the prices are a bit expensive regarding the amount of food on the dish.
D. C.
Great food, lobster is the special dish served in a bunch of ways. I’ve had the lobster roll and the southern fried chicken burger, and recommend both! Great spot for an after work drink.
C. M.
A rooftop bar with a great atmosphere. Fun cocktail list and great bartenders. Reccomend it for drinks, the food isn't anything amazing. There's a lot of American-style burgers and lobster dishes, but it's not as good as the drinks.
t. d. f.
Loving this hidden bar in the centre of Sydney - great for a long lunch with friends! Tried the wagyu burger and some of the items of their cocktail menu and was great. Has an outdoor bar feel with some quirky decor but highlight is definitely the food. Looking forward to going back!
E. F.
Hard to find the entrance but nice qhen you reach the rooftop. Good cocktails and burgers.
T. P.
Very cool bar hidden above an office block. They serve various firms of delicious lobster and the drinks here are good. There's a nice wine list and the cocktails are well made. It gets packed here on weekends but on other nights it's nice place to chill out and chat with friends.
B. H.
Yum!
A great menu filled with burgers, lobsters and the great truffle oil fries. Had the lobster roll this visit which was delicious, a little difficult to eat, but full of flavours and textures. Will try a burger or the lobster and prawn pie next time!
L. C.
Fantastic speedy service, good food, great atmosphere
S. N.
Quite a hipster location, hidden away in the CBD. It gets quite busy on Friday nights. I tried the wagyu burger which was tender and filling. It wasn't spectacular. I probably wouldn't bother lining up. The drinks are pricey. They do a great sundae dessert.
S. R.
Went here late in the evening with a group of mates. You walk into what looks like a standard CBD office lift, but end up on a groovy rooftop. Great space. The food is excellent. I had the lobster roll, because $50 seemed extravagant.
And don't skip the onion rings. To. Die. For.
A. S.
Wow this place is fantastic!!!! Totally a hidden Gem! As youmake your way up the elevator you embark on this hidddn rooftop bar with a quirky atmosphere! Great selection of drinks on tap and some Epic burgers!!!! The truffle fries are awesome!! Get in early or book a table as this is the place to be! Staff are very friendly and helpful to grt you seated. Expect to pay $19 - $28 for a burger meal
M.
Great cocktail bar. Said to be a a rooftop bar, but is mainly covered. Note the company owning this establishment (Keystone Group) has gone into administration, so it may not be around for longer. Definitely visit whilst you have a chance.
S. F.
I absolutely love this place.
It is decorated exquisitely with a fantastic indoor area for ordering from bar, or a little undercover outdoor area - fantastic for having a Christmas party, birthday, or lunch.
Prices are pretty reasonable and there is a good selection from the menu.
J. Z.
The wife and I loved this place. The team were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was on point, the cocktails were on point. We’ll be back again. Thank You Team!
W. D.
Hidden gem in Sydney. Great cocktails, snacks and food. Although pricey and gets super noisy as the night progresses. Sometimes thee may be a line downstairs too! Cocktails are unique and quite nice. The food: Tried the lobster roll, wagyu burger, onion rings, truffle fries - all good except the truffle fries which didn't really have the truffle salt flavor.
X. C.
Loved the drinks and atmosphere! We had a bar tab and got a cute cassette! Wasn't a fan of the portion size for the lobster, way too small.
A. P.
Great little bar, good atmosphere, great fit out
Covid safe and all to help everyone a little worried
Good well round balanced drinks not too sweet
L. S.
Great service - nicole was super attentive and helpful!
R. L.
I thought the food took a bit too long to come out, and it was luke warm. I sent it back and it came out much better. Offered a free drink which I thought was a nice gesture but after 20 mins we realised they didn't place that order.... $24 for a cocktail I felt was a little steep. This was dinner on a Thursday night, 8pm
C. T.
Hidden gem in the middle of our gorgeous CBD!Perfect spot to have some cosy drinks with friends or date night ☺️
**Mushy fans: The truffle chippies are to die for!
j. k.
Get their famous Lobster Roll and Truffle Fries, you will not be disappointed. Bloody Mary is hand down the best in Sydney at the Rook. Its always a good time, however they get booked out very easily due to popularity - Guys open another Rook, you guys are great!!
A. K.
Cute Mediterranean themed bar tucked away in the CBD, perfect spot for drinks or dinner. Friendly staff and a great vibe !
J. G.
Nice place but the roof was close that day. I ordered macadamia beetroot salad and it had really weak ingredients according to the price. in the end i didn’t feel that i ate something :)
R. M.
Hidden rooftop bar and restaurant, very popular and great service. Distinct lobster theme but plenty of alternatives such as burgers. I had the Angry Bug Linguine, was good but couldn't even taste the chilli for which it was named.
A. A.
A fun lively place but may not be the best place for of you're looking to have a nice quiet dinner wth your SO. Food is... Alright. Nothing too fancy. It's mostly burgers and chips but they do add don't twists on the preparation and taste.
D. J.
Had the original Burger & truffle fries for $26 was AMAZING! You can even get oysters at $4.5 a pop. Great ambience for a smart casual date or a hangout with mates.
K. k.
The atmosphere and service here are amazing. The food is usually really good. Amazing craft beer selection. High prices but worth it. Love the smoking area!
J. M.
Excellent venue for a big private gathering.
I. N.
This is one of my afterwork go-to bars. The cocktails are delicious, the service friendly and quick, and you're guaranteed a great atmosphere.
Tends to be pretty packed, so worth getting in a bit earlier, or booking a table out the back.
W. S.
Interesting.
- its a bar on the top floor of the building but not essentially a roof top as you'd otherwise know it
- cocktails and food expensive for what it was (as most Keystone venues are)
- not the easiest place to describe friends to get to but a bit of mystery/adventure can be cool for a rodeo night out
Not necessarily a bad thing but some people don't like big hospitality groups so this is a very a-typical Keystone style venue. American/Bar/Snacks/Food/Forward thinking etc etc
+ wagyu beef burgers are quite good. brioche bun tho which I'm personally not about.
+ good sliders and chips
+ found the service pretty good although we were there for a small function so they had allocated a waiter specifically
3* not frothing but yeah was ok - nor here or there.
A. D.
The best part I like about this place is the adventure of getting here.
Hidden away in an office building on the top floor, you exit the elevator into one of the nicest small bars I've been to in Sydney. Cocktails are on the more expensive side but delicious and they have a kitchen to order food from.
I like how they had background music here and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't have a conversation.
C. W.
Nicely hidden off York St, The Rook feels slightly more exclusive than your usual CBD bar. A quick elevator ride to the roof and we found the bar packed on a Thursday night with the post-work crowd. Friendly bar staff helped us to pass 30 mins waiting for a table, where we chose wagyu burgers and ordered more beers. After a short wait we were brought a bowl of onion rings on the house, plus an apology for the delay which was a nice touch. The food followed shortly after and was delicious. Only downside is that it's incredibly noisy, so perhaps not the best place for a quiet date or catch up.
A. J.
Truffle fries with Parmesan...
Fantastic flavour.

This is one of those gems on the small bar scene that seem to do everything right! They have an amazing selection of cocktails, including some gin based specials of the day that are a steal at $12. These guys specialise in Gin and have an amazing collection. Every 1st Monday of the month they have a special night dedicated to Gin aficionados, where you get to taste a new gin!. Their food is topnotch too. I absolutely fell in love with my lobster roll and fries! The truffle fries are soo good that they alone are worth making the trip for! And their staff is an absolute darling. We had to catch a show at State Theatre and had 40mins left, the lady at the entrance squeezed us in, and ensured that everything went by the clock. All this for a walk-in! No tantrums, no raised eyebrows just plain ol' good customer service. We left with a big smile on our faces :)
R. T.
Such a good experience! Loved the decor, food and the drinks and staff were super attentive. Would definitely recommend the $29 dumpling night

Really cool bar, packed on a Friday night like everywhere else in Sydney. The entrance is very nondescript from the street... You have to go up an elevator in a building which looks a lot like a small apartment block. But once you're up there, the vibe is great. Good tasty food, service was okay but could be better as it wasn't that busy and the waiter forgot our drinks, then when we asked for water they took the bottle filled it up and then got distracted and never brought it back.
This place is like a little secret apot in sydney. Great location.
C. X.
My one problem with the Rook is that I can never quite place my finger on exactly what the bar's theme is. Lobster traps, americana, something bird-related... It all fades away though at the thought of their lobster roll.
You're probably thinking it'll be flaked and dry and covered in mayonnaise like canned tuna, but no. No. NO. Whole lobster tail!! (covered in mayonnaise-y potato salad)
Quite delicious. Drinks are worth trying too - cocktails are original but not groundbreaking, and I hear that desserts are quite delicious too
J. S.
Lovely hidden away rooftop bar and dine place, perfect for a night out with small group of friends
Pros
- Great food
- Amazing selection of drinks
- Lovely chill vibes
- Smoking area within
- Pool tables
Cons
- Stairs are hard to climb if elevator breaks down
- Kitchen closes early compared to most places
- Everything is on the pricey side

Fantastic little bar, great atmosphere and selection of drinks. Food is also really good, great selection of small bites and burgers. Bit difficult to find, but worth while finding!

"One of Sydneys very few rooftop bars! WE NEED MORE OF THIS!"
I love roof top bars, I love places with wierd access; this place ticks both boxes. Hidden entry via an office building takes you up to a surprisingly large light filled and welcoming enclosed place buzzing with friendly energy amazing food and good selection of drinks and service. The amazing truffle fries are something else. Being fully enclosed this place is great for winter, but with the feeling of being outside, love the "back alley" themed smoking lounge again feels like an outdoor back alley.

Burger below par, possibly because it was a special. Other (full priced) food looked better. Being able to order food and drinks on my phone from the table worked well and was a plus.

Incredible cocktails and delicious food. Great breezy atmosphere. Really lovely and helpful staff. A little expensive – but this is Sydney, and it’s worth it for a treat.

I loved the Rook! The new menu is delicious, the renovation is divine, and the service is fantastic. I can see myself becoming embarrassingly regular here.

A fabulous small rooftop bar and restaurant in inner Sydney CBD. Specialising in Gin, although all varieties of drinks available. Very pleasant, obliging staff. Terrific decor in the style of a "speakeasy"
An astonishing range of Gin.
Get into the elevator, press "R" for roof and enter another world.
The best small bar that I've patronised in Sydney.

Let me cut straight to the deal: Go here and order the halloumi burger with a side of their sexy spicy red sauce. Get the burger, remove peppers, douse with the sauce and eat. Mmmmmmmm, absolutely yumminess in a burger.
When done with the burger (and if you aren't too stuffed as they are a decent size), go for the deep fried mars bar. Many a friend of mine has almost died of a heart attack at the mere suggestion of it, but oh my, what a way to go! The warm chocolate covered bar oozes with sticky caramel and is accompanied by vanilla icecream, chocolate sand and drunk raisins. I can't quite manage one alone so it is a great sharing dish... saying that, once you try it you might just want it all to yourself.
A friend has tried the lobster roll and said it was good, the truffle fries are very truffley, and the wagyu burger is decent and what you would expect for $20.
Ratings:
Chairs: 7/10 high chairs are fine, low chairs are those annoying ones that cut into your legs.
Noise: 7/10. Can be noisy on one side when it rains but there is a quiet bit on the bar side.
Speed: 7/10. Average: never too quick and never too slow. Generally quick when you get there early.
Staff: 10/10. Always helpful, nice, and I haven't had anything spilt on me yet!
Light: 10/10. Bright in daytime as it is the top of the building, nicely lit at night.
Heat: 9/10. Comfortable without your jacket.
Frequency: Medium. I eat and drink here at least once a month.
Summary: Consistently good and I would highly recommend for a relaxed lunch or dinner with friends, family or clients. Lets hope their standards continue.

Great service. I gave 4 stars because i tried different food each time i come but there is nothing special. Maybe the place is great just for alcohol and bonding with mates but not for food.
M.
A good number of visits to this fun location over the years. Staff have never impressed overly but food is good and drinks serve the purpose.
O. B.
Delicious cocktails and food with very attentive service! Would particularly recommend for special occasions.
D. G.
Caitlin and Max were outstanding hosts and the Gin selection was on point...many great drink combos were had, highly recommend the elevator ride up to The Rook
E. T.
Lovely spot for a glass of beer. Cheap prices and excellent size portioned meals. Charming service and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.
A. O.
Super impressed with this establishment.
Seated quickly. Friendly staff and awesome ambience. Can’t wait to return next time we are in Sydney!
C. T.
This is my favourite place to come after work because of the elevated environment away from the business of sydney CBD. The lighting and feel is soft and relaxing and the staff are relatable and unpretentious. An oasis in a desert of soulless corporate bars.
G.
Cocktails look great but I haven't personally tried one. It's a nice place to have a drink with friends. Love the smoking area.
J. R.
I love the atmosphere here and how it is hidden in an unexpected place. Staff were great offering recommendations. The menu is very different with pricey options which is to be expected but the food was great. Highly recommend!
D. F.
Lobsters and burgers - what an idea! It may be stolen from a British chain but there is no such thing as an original idea, right? The best thing on the menu is the wagyu burger which has to be up there for one of the best in Sydney. Truffle fries are a must and if you chose the lobster, the garlic butter is the best - their mornay didn't do it for me. Keep an eye out for the specials board which usually has something worth grabbing. The bar itself is also great - an enclosed rooftop sanctuary hidden inside an office building. It has the cool factor and the food backs it up. I can see it sticking around!
T. W.
Once you find The Rook you'll see why it's generating the buzz it is. The Drinks are nothing to write home about, but the food is quite spectacular. The Chicken Burgers are astounding, and the half lobster is to die for. I cant reccommend the rook highly enough.
k. t.
Cocktails were next level and the bartenders obviously care about what they make. Only drank there but I really want to go back to eat - the food looks amazing.
I. G.
The best place to have a happy hour with your mates! Beautiful food and amazing staff! I will be back every week
C. W.
Great hidden gem in the city, perfect for both lunch and dinner, with a great variety of drinks. Staff are always friendly and helpful, will be back!
A. R.
Nice place and atmosphere. Limited choices in food and drinks, and have to order everything via a webpage cart can get tedious.
C. J.
The Rook is a regular haunt. Great food, awesome drinks and friendly staff. And one of the few cigar friendly places in town!
J.
I didn't know this place existed until a friend told me about it. It's situated at the top of a building and could be hard to find.
Definitely recommend the Lobster roll or the Lobster risotto.
Cocktails are pretty good but pricey
P. K.
Great little romantic rooftop restaurant with nice burgers. Limited menu though
M. P.
Love the outdoor look & feel.
Amazing share plates & cocktails were super fast! Will be back for sure
J. B.
Kia Ora.
Few love couple if things heights and cocktails. This place handled both brilliantly. Was dressed smart but nothing special and was allowed in so that's nice for a change here in Sydney.
Cocktails, well they're just mixed with precision and skill. Liked that I had a chance to ask questions and watch so made the taste an inch better.
Recommend if you like a room with height tucked away that feels like youre in a secret place. This is ur choice.
Enjoy Sydney. I did.
S. W.
Cool bar hidden in the city, wait staff are always friendly, food and cocktails are always great too!
N. A.
Trendy, noisy, we just met the work crew there for pre-dinner drinks before walking to a restaurant. There was a food menu but didn't want to ruin my appetite.
N. M.
Great rooftop in the middle of the city. Cocktails are decent. Do note it is quite small and very popular so it does tends to get a bit overcrowded from time to time.
J. B.
Tim is a rooking 5* legend. Such good vibes, he tended to us so well, big up
C. A.
Great atmosphere, the staff were fantastic and cocktails on point. What more could you want! We will definitly be back.
D. L.
Cheers to Tim “the handsome bartender “ 😉
J. H.
When I was invited into the lift in a seedy 80s office building on York Street, I had no idea the doors would open on an expansive rooftop bar.
Buzzing vibe and great burgers.
A. G.
Love this spot. Tucked away at the top of an office building The Rook serves great burgers, cold beer, and a vibe that is Melbourne - esque. Fun staff and good tunes make this a good Thursday night spot to catch up with friends, leaving you within striking distance of Baxters, Mr. Mings, and Mojo Records.
V. H.
The one vegetarian option – an eggplant parmesan in burger form – was pretty decent. Truffle Parmesan Fries only had traces of either. Overall ok.
A.
Quirky bar/restaurant. Good food, decent selection of alcohol and very friendly staff. Definitely worth to check out. Choriso Croquettes are great!
S. S.
Great 'hidden' rooftop bar. Decent drinks menu and the food is great after a long day - although pricey. Gets pretty busy with business people after work though.
J. B.
Great, relaxed place. Delicious food and drinks and not too expensive. The service was at times a bit spotty but not bad enough to spoil the night.
M. W.
This is the most amazing rooftop bar! Funky vibe, awesome cocktails and their lobster rolls are the best thing on this earth! Must order 2!!
Y. L.
nice atmosphere but cocktails and food are definitely very over priced for the amount and of what they are
L. D.
Perfect place for Friday arvo drinks. Didn't eat here but drooled with Food envy at every plate I saw! Lobster is the theme.
J. M.
Cool hidden 'rooftop' bar. Don't be put off the office like entry press the R and head up to The Rook.
Cool cocktails and burgers or something on the lobster side if you're feeling fancy.
F. F.
Staff were nice, ambience is good. Food is overpriced and mediocre. Sides are the best bit which is a travesty if you are ordering lobster.
To be fair, it is lobster instead of bugs though.
J.
Went here on a nice sunny afternoon and had a pleasant time. Nice, relaxing rooftop and the service was friendly. Would recommend.
A. R.
Excellent airy location with good range of drinks. Ability to talk as not noisy. Attractive surrounds
L. R.
Good vibe. Hidden place in the cbd. Dark setting and cadual dining.
Would've given 5 stars if the food matched how appetising it sounded
M. P.
What an amazing rooftop bar! Consistently pumps out great food and even better cocktails. Ignore the rest!
M. C.
Great atmosphere and interesting diner menu (the lobster roll is great). Not the place for a romantic date, but perfect for celebrating birthday with friends.
F. M.
Tasty burgers and delicious cocktails set in a very cool venue. Our burgers came out very quickly after ordering.
S. O.
Good, not great. We've been a couple of times, the food and service is consistent. I'd be happy to go back if someone suggested it, but I doubt I'll feel the need personally.
C. C.
Great joint if you can find that niche time when it's not packed full of people in on the hidden little rooftop bar.
Tip - press R for roof. Poor office on level 6
B. P.
Did the dumpling brunch, great value and lovely chill staff. Get on the swing after a few glasses of rose 👌
C. H.
An unexpected and excellent find. Great service, strong burger game, but slightly too generous with the condiments which made for a burger that was messier than it needed to be.
M.
Great cocktail selection. A very cool, out of the way place with a great vibe. Nice view from the rooftop too
N. J.
Great service as always. Hidden rooftop bar. Highly recommend.
Thanks for a great night team 🙌🏼
R. S.
We attended a wedding here and it was fantastic. Staff were professional, the space was beautiful, and we had such a memorable night!
E.
It's fun, with friendly servers. Cute drinks. Food was good too. Too loud for my liking, but then I'm a grandma
K. R.
It rivals any bar in Sydney City!!
G. H.
Came here for lunch with my family. Great food and excellent service!! Will definitely be coming back.
N. D.
Amazing lobster roll and good wine list! Would definitely come back again :)
T. H.
A beautiful rooftop retreat in the heart of the city. Great food and better service!
T. B.
Great Food & Drinks! Awesome service! Good for an after work drink in the city, or work lunch!
D. W.
Gin based cocktails are great but food is subpar. The service is deplorable, especially our waitress, Fanny K.
B. T.
Good vibes and the food isn't bad. The lobster roll is great but pricey but that's lobster for you.
M. C.
Lovely rooftop bar.
They host movie nights with beanbag seating, and custom cocktails to match the theme of the movie.
A. E.
What a wonderfull hidden venue, where we had the chance to celebrate our staff party. Thanks Donna for hosting and to the great crew!
D. d. M.
Level 7 on the building directory, "R" on the elevator button. Popular place, girls behind the bar were friendly - the dude needs to work on his people skills.
m. r.
Excellent service, Yuda the waiter was very nice with us, and the food was amazing too! We come back !
G. E.
Quirky city roof top bar and eatery. Overlooked by offices but a pleasant enough place to enjoy an after work beverage even if a little expensive.
T. D.
Quirky and hip bar/restaurant. I enjoyed the 'Uncle Sam' burger and meringue dessert. Definitely a place to check out!
M. T.
Great cocktails. Great food. Great service. Shame if you can't find it but definitely worth the effort!
T. G.
Blown away by the truffle fries and smashing desserts. Cute secret roof top bar - a good place to hang and chill with friends.
B. B.
This is a great place for just drinks but also great to come with friends for dinner with great food. The vibe is awesome and staff is very helpful and friendly
V. W.
Food was alright. Not the kind of roof top bars I'd expected (airy, views to sky, winds etc) Bar/alcoholic area is very noisy.
P. E.
Such a good atmosphere, felt like they were really taking COVID19 seriously. Would definitely come back here!!
P. S.
Good food, friendly staff. A bit hidden away and tricky to find, but made for an nice atmosphere.
D. L.
Enjoy having drinks with friends after work, great vibe, really fun and passionate staff! Try the burgers.. (Drool face).
N. B.
Delicious food and phenomenal service. Believe our waiters name was Charlie, he did not hesitate to help us!
R. N.
Cute little hideaway in the city. Great Decor! Food was great as well :)
D.
Good choice of burgers, loved the soft shell crab one although a bit spicy. Chips are a solid 9/10
P. L.
Fantastic food (Burgers / lobster rolls / onion rings etc), funky atmosphere and tasty cocktails keep me coming back regularly.
T. S.
We had a great time here and Louis is amazing. He really looked after us. Will definitely be back :)
J. A.
Great place for atmosphere and nice service unfortunately half the menu was not available no sea food so I had a meal I didn't really want
S. M.
This is a great "hidden" bar, as you have to go up on a lift to get there.
The soft shell crab roll is amazing
T. S.
Awesome place! The cocktails and food are delicious and the staff are super friendly.
R. G.
Nice place, nice location, but not overly obvious, and great fries.
L. W.
Ryan was a great bartender! Made our night amazing
C. M.
Lovely seafood tasting plate, and the outdoor seating is right on the beachfront. Great views.
A. W.
Great atmosphere, decor and vibe with friendly service. The wagyu burger was amazing, as were the croquettes.
A. A.
Hearty food and fantastic cocktails! Great vibes for lunch, afterwork drinks or dinner. It's a go-to.
B. D.
Fun, American-style bar atmosphere is definitely the highlight here. Food was decent, but not outstanding.
J. B.
Please don't hire Jordy otherwise you'll lose a star from me. Anyways great atmosphere and delicious food worth the price tag!
J. K.
Smaller menu than before but still a great place tucked away on the top floor :-)
S. R.
Great service, splendid cocktails, delicious chicken burger, spring weather. ❤️
G. M.
Tim is the best bartender!
T. N.
Delicious cocktails and great vibe, but overpriced! You pay the same for a lobster here as you would in a fancy restaurant.
A. B.
All round greatness. Good atmosphere, great food makes for a nice experience. Hidden treasure.
N. C.
Great hidden secret rooftop drinking hole. Cool decor. Little bit cramped when busy.
J. R.
I love the atmosphere here and how it is hidden in an unexpected place. Staff were great offering recommendations. The menu is very different with pricey options which is to be expected but the food was great. Highly recommend!
M. S.
Had the truffle fries not terribly impressed but the happy hour gin was quite good.
B. P.

Fresh Japanese beer and tasty dumplings!

Cocktails were next level and the bartenders obviously care about what they make. Only drank there but I really want to go back to eat - the food looks amazing.
