Comments of Vapiano King Street

Used to come here to watch the chefs custom make our pasta order, but unfortunately done away with since COVID & everything is ordered via app now! At least they did away with the weird custom card order/payment system. Pasta quality & options still fantastic though! Can't comment on the pizza or other menu items as have never tried
A. C.
We ordered the carbonara fettuccine, which was perfect. The bacon and rich cream sauce balanced the flavours well. We went for a simple pepperoni which was amazing as always. We were however not happy with the starter. The garlic breads we ordered were not hot and didn’t taste fresh. It was disappointing as the rest of the meal was excellent.

Sometimes customer service is when staff take a negative experience and turn it into a delightful one - this was one of those examples!
I was initially disappointed by the small portion size as I had paid $31 for the meal, but after speaking with the manager (her name was Nisa), she offered to increase it for me! Special thanks to Nisa and her team for creating a great Valentine’s Day memory.

Lovely place. Unfortunately, went there when it was hectic. Drinks were perfect. Food was a bit uncooked but still it was delicious, I didn't mind. They looked great. I will give a second try next time and will make another review. Thank you.

Great food, lovely friendly welcome & service, slick ordering, delivery, payment system - paperless, almost touchless! Beautiful relaxing simple decor, lovely atmosphere, seats surprisingly comfortable despite being modern and backless. Scan the barcode on the table, choose your meals, make your variations, add your drinks, add your credit card details and whooshka!! Next thing your meal comes.
We had Lasagne and Meatballs.. didn’t need a big meal but highly recommended!!

Vapiano has released their new special dish, the Carbonara Cob! For a limited time, you can try this creamy spaghetti dish from Vapiano at Kings street. The crusty bread that surrounds the pasta soaks in all the creamy and bacon-y goodness, that we devoured this in a second! 🤤 They also changed their pizza bases to be crusty on the outside and fluffy inside which I prefer, because it reminds me of pizzas in Italy ☺️. I wish the cob was a permanent menu item because I’ll eat it every week if I could 😂. If you’ve been here before, they now do table service 😊.
FEATURED:
⭐️Carbonara Cob - Their famous spaghetti carbonara, piled high in a crusty cob loaf, topped with fresh parmesan.
⭐️Buratta and Prosciutto pizza (new menu item!) - soft & creamy burrata with prosciutto, mozzarella & fresh rocket.
⭐️ Antipasti Board -
The perfect starter - toasted ciabatta, selection of meats, parmesan, buffalo mozzarella, mixed olives, sun-dried tomatoes, basil pesto & bruschetta.
⭐️ Watermelon Spritz & Passionfruit Mojito Cocktails 🍹

Earlier in my professional career this place was my go to haunt for Italian cuisine. Returned two nights ago, and was lovely to see that several years later the food quality is as great as ever. My friend ordered the Super Green Risotto and I had the Carbonara. Both were cooked to perfection, the chef was very friendly and discussed the different choices available to us in detail. The servings were huge! My friend had to have half of hers for take away as she couldn’t finish it and it still tasted very good overnight. Absolutely love the ambience of the place, there’s a corner which has tables lit by a single light which creates a very romantic atmosphere. Perfect for date nights!

We had two pastas (one was great the other not so much) but we defs recommend the garlic pizza!!! Super tasty!

Conveniently located from the major train station. Good atmosphere. I have tried one of the limited time menu, Carbonara Cob. Worth a try, but be mindful of lots of "carbs" in it. lol. Pasta was a bit sticky for me. I would prefer extra pasta sauce or olive oil for bread (can be served separately) A bit disappointed that some of the tables were not cleaned well. Hope this will be improved.

The service and food was excellent! Really enjoyed the Lasagne and Mushroom Risotto. Venue was a bit noisy for our liking so it's a bit hard to have a conversation but we still enjoyed it.
G. F.
Average Italian, not the best quality. Pasta wasn’t well cooked, sauces lacking flavour. Shame as it’s a really nice place and great vibe.
T. V. (.
Food isn't too bad here. Not fantastic but not horrible either. Worth trying out if you've not tried it before. A good selection of Italian food. Yours truly @fooderarri
E. M.
This used to be fun place with decent food but latest experience was not so good as before. Caesar salad I ordered had too much dressing, spotted a few bacon pieces, plain croutons. The only good ingridient were prawns. My husbands food came cold with too plain bread, the taste was not good either. It tasted how it looked - not satisfying.
J. S.
I’m beyond obsessed with this place. I’ve never had a bad meal. Absolutely delicious.
V. L.
Food is ok. Service is good. Funny table set up. Still missing something to be outstanding.

Stopped at this awesome spot whilst visiting Sydney from Newcastle.
Such a great atmosphere, tasty fresh pasta and pizzas ..
Cocktails were a great price and the fresh herbs avail in a pot is exceptional..
Well done !
S. K.
Great quality food at a cheap price, especially considering the restaurant is located in the city. The food is warm and hearty and of a high quality. Staff are friendly and customer service is great. It’s a unique experience in which you watch the chef make your food that I highly recommend.
D.
They literally cook the pasta and pizza when you order it, and man you can taste the difference. A decent selection of pasta sauces, pasta and pizza with options to customise on request. One thing that is a bit of a let down was that there's a seperate cue for those that want a pizza and those that want a risotto/pasta and that was not communicated properly. I saw several people having to jump into the other cue after waiting in the wrong one. So keep that in mind and enjoy an really amazing meal.
A. E.
Went to this place for linch with my friends. It is nice Italian restaurant located in city. The staff is friendly and well trained. They greeted us and explained how to proceed. You would have to stand in queue and watch the chef make your order which was an experience. The food is really good and quantity is amazing. It is worth the money. The restaurant manager even walked up to us to check on everything and even gave us a complimentary dessert for our wait initially. Would really recommend this place for Italian food and good service.
M. A.
Great pastas!! Vegetarians must go!!
They have great vegetarian pastas, full of flavors and fresh ingredients. We ordered creme funghi and alla norma, they are both a must try.
Bolognese pizza was fresh but too tomatoey and bready for my taste.
Ambience is average, service is average but location is right in the heart of the city, very close to Wynyard station.
L. T.
Brilliant food. Loved our pasta and pizza order. And the servers were accommodating. The ordering system was a little annoying being all online and had several processes. Would be difficult for older people trying to order. But overall we enjoyed our meal and time there.
A. K.
This restaurant is one of my favorite in Sydney.
You can choose pasta and some ingredients and chef cooks them in front of you.
It is very cool and I like it.
A. P.
Amazing quality of pastas and sauces used. Very friendly staff and quick service on a busy Saturday. Had a very good experience on a couple of visits!
S. L.
Fresh, easy, customizable pasta! You choose your pasta, sauce and other add ons. Really and tasty.
V. M.
Great shop layout and design! As you eat your way to heaven, the ambience in the room helps keep you comfortable and engaged. The precise location of the restaurant is perfect. Located in the centre of the Sydney CBD, this restaurant is a must for tourists and food lovers! There is lots of dining space with two floors and the food is amazing! I LOVE this place for Italian food. First of all, they offer you a card for loading up orders ready for checkout which is very convenient. Although there might be a 5-10 minute wait, the food is definitely worth it. The restaurant offers a variety of pasta shape choices and have a great selection of pizzas! The shop has two ‘mini kitchens’, the first is for pizzas leaving the second for pasta. The bread the restaurant offers is as soft as a cloud and i have easily been here more than i can count on my fingers and toes! The restaurant is a favourite for vegans, vegetarians and non-vegetarians with the menu featuring a large variety of dishes within both pizza and pasta fields. The restaurant has great friendly staff that are ready to serve every desire. The addition of a ‘buzzer’ helps keep customers aware of when their food is ready. When their order is ready, a buzzer vibrates with lights and sound to signal the customer when to pick up their order (When the buzzer rings, so does my heart!). Every table also offers fresh, edible thyme and basil plants that can be eaten on the spot! In addition to that, nature has definitely been incorporated throughout the restaurant with a large tree in the middle of the common area on the first floor. The food is also affordable which is a great addition in the city! I DEFINITELY recommend visiting this restaurant for the delicious and unique food! This restaurant has without doubt made it into my favourite restaurants list!
S. G.
The overall experience was nice and the upstairs part of the restaurant has a certain quality ambience. Think low lamps and long wooden tables, there's even a selection of books to read, and leather easy chairs to recline on if your just having a drink. The bar upstairs would keep the place pumping say of a Friday or Saturday night. We came on a Sunday evening and even then there were enough peeps around to make the place feel busy. The process of ordering AND paying from a QR code is, in a word, magnificent. Technology has changed the restaurant experience greatly and the days of waiting nervously for the server to go around the table asking each patron for their order have gone. Well, almost. When 3 meals are ordered to a table and one at the table has the Carbonara and the other has the Amatriciana already in front of them then the third meal to arrive, the Crema Ala Funghi would go to the third person seated at the same table without any dish in front of them? Seems a fair assumption.
R. B.
Just to be honest and clear..this is not restaurant
This is soft version takeaway place..not in shopping centre, but in Hotel lobby
If you take all this in consideration food is good.
B. 8.
Vapiano is a vibrant restaurant in centre of Sydney CBD offering Italian food.
I really enjoyed the pizza and pasta at this restaurant. They have options to suit all diners including vegan in a comfortable dining space. The ordering system is that you receive a card on the way in and then can visit different areas to get your food, come of which is prepared in front of you.
Perfect for a night out with the family or friends. Also seems to be suitable for large groups.
D. N.
It was my first time here and loved the experience!
Pasta was prepared on the counter, and it was fresh tasted great! Bar had good collection whiskey! Great pizza and bruschetta. Friendly and smiling staff.
Overall, the ambience were good. Would visit this place again
J. W.
I wouldn't say watching the chef cook my meal was an amazing experience, considering it meant I had to stand there in line for a long time. But the Pollo Amatriciana was superb. The margherita pizza was also very nice.
A. M.
U can ask cook for the ingredients and he would cool for you instantly.
Pure Vegetarian options are also there. The taste was nice, however the pizza we ordered could have been softer.
Good place to hangout with friends and family.
D. S.
I’ve visited Vapiano in Amsterdam and NYC regularly, and I I love how this one is similar. Idea for big groups; there is a lot more of choice, and everyone can pay their own food/ drinks
We had the spicy pepperoni pizza and vegetarian pizza. The food was fresh, tasty and had a good portion for the price.
Staff is kind. Location is convenient; venue is really big and has a light, chill vibe.
S. V.
I usually enjoy vapiano, but my order was disappointing. My pasta was not tasty and the chicken tasted very plain.
Also, when you pay extra for some ingredients, it’s very frustrating when they don’t add them to your dish.
E. I.
Guaranteed delicious tasting Italian food! Tiramisu comes in the perfect size. Great that all dishes are fresh and cooked to order, but come before the lunchtime rush as service can be slow during peak times.
M. R.
Very yummy pizza( simply cheese) with Olives 😋
Nice crust, oven baked, for the place the pizza isn't too expensive as well ✌️
A. S.
Really enjoyed dinner out tonight! Pasta was great, they went out of their way to cater for our dietary needs, and the staff were exceptionally kind and considerate. Will definitely be back.
K. R.
Quite a busy place during lunch on weekday and deservedly so! I had ordered the margarita pizza, salami pizza, aglio e olio and pesto rosso. The pizza was ready in no time but had to wait in the queue for the pasta for almost 30mins. As they make the pasta in the live counter, the experience is quite unique but very hard for a hungry chap like me. The pizzas were great especially the cheese margarita pizza. The pasta is made can be customized with personal choice. The Aglio E Olio was amazing and would highly recommend it. For dessert, I tried their special Chocolate Fondue with brownies, marshmallows and strawberries.
D. P.
Food was lovely although stingy with ingredients. The chefs appeared accommodating to food allergies but completely forgot with a minute and started dipping their hands and utensils in the raw allergen whilst cooking. No Wi-fi available other than from the hotel if you’re a guest.
C.
Busy and definitely achievable food at home. Ambience is nice upstairs on a quiet day. Pizza took a while then expected, however the fettuccini carbonara was tasty. Definitely a place to order fast-cooked pasta over pizza.
C. M.
The food was ok but it took a long time for the pizzas to arrive. And the pasta was a little undercooked. It may be better when they aren't so busy.
T. H.
Italian place that has the food court vibe rather than a restaurant, with lively and hip ambience.
The biggest issue I have about this place, and something you should be fully aware of, is that you need to be prepared to spend at least 30-40 minutes either queuing up to get food or walk around to get your drinks. There is no table service here, so you need to walk up to the kitchen to order and receive your food. Ordering the pizza is fine because you simply order, get a buzzer and go back to your seat until the food is ready. Where it falls apart is the pasta queue, where there are 4-5 chefs cooking each individual pasta in front of you, meaning you are not only waiting for people to order their food but also for all of their food to be ready, and you will be standing in the queue the whole time. When I eventually got to the chef after good half an hour, the experience was refreshing because you could chat with your chef and customise what would go into your dish (spice, etc). However this is a real problem if you came to this place expecting to have a chat with people you came to the restaurant with, because you won't see them again until about an hour later after entering the restaurant together.
Food quality was impressive, almost so that it might just be worth the time queuing up. They served folded pizza which was interesting and tasty. I thought the dough was done particularly well - elastic and has depth to flavour. We've had pesto tagliatelle too, which was done with perfect balance of herbs, oil and great pan-work.
Drink choices felt rather limited although they stocked interesting stuff. There seemed to be no beer on tap which was disappointing. They did have pretty good range of bottled ales including some craft beer. The wine list was decent, kept to basics, but nice basics - mostly from Australia and New Zealand. You will need to self serve again, by going to the bar to grab your drinks.
Overall it was one of the freshest experience I have had for a good while due to different system of getting your food, and we left the place happy and full, but just lower your expectation about any service you might get from here. The message is clear, you are coming here for the food.
O. v.
Urban Italian restaurant with a variety of menu. Good for people who can wait, but I don’t recommend for those who can’t as it is always busy with a long queue. Good taste with fresh ingredients!
S. C.
Have been here several times and I am so glad that the service and quality of food has remained consistent. The unique part about Vapiano is despite being relatively busy the pasta you order is made fresh in front of you in less than 10 minutes. I really enjoy coming here on a quiet weekday for lunch, and sitting on the lovely terrace like top floor with plenty of open space and privacy in a beautifully designed restaurant.
R. H.
The menu is quite short. Not as I know it from a german vapiano. But the Lunch (2 Kidsmeals and 2 Pastameals) were vapiano quality and tasted good. We do not know, if the Pizza, my youngest got, was a bear or a rabbit, but it was a nice try 😉
Staff was friendly, we got asked from a waiter for extra water. I was positive surprised, when I ordered 3 Pastameals, that the second Chef helped preparing and we got everything at the same time.
D. Z.
Good atmosphere, small portions but such good flavours your walk away satisfied.
Will be going back
S. O.
A great place for pizza and pasta with very decent prices. Each table has several pots of herbs (ours had basil and thyme) that can be used to garnish your dishes. It's quite noisy so it's not the place for a romantic meal but it's fine when you have two kids!
C. F.
Very busy during peak time, with long queues, but well organised.
It is divided in two levels and it has a nice atmosphere created by light on tables.
You can also find herbs and condiments on tables if you want to add basil, rosemary, etc. to your meal.
Pizzas were ok.
O. B.
One of the best places in town to get some good food especially before having a night out. It has a very elegant atmosphere with nice decoration, lightning and high ceilings. I haven't tried risotto yet but pasta was very good. You can taste how it is different, more fresh and yummy than the regular pasta. Pasta dough is very tasty in that sense. I also tried calzone, same things count. Good dough, fresh ingredients and very well cooked. Only down side is, it can be super busy and you need to wait at the queue for 20-30 mins. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place.
M. E.
Comfort food and place for Italian food. Reasonable prices and nice staffs too.
C. P. V.
the food it's really good I enjoyed my pasta, the place it's really nice and the staff it's polite.
just you have to know that at first the staff will give you a card where everything you order it's charge in that card
everything it's Auto service and you have to order your food yourself in the kitchen and the chef will cook your food in front on you.
the same with the drinks and water, the only bad I saw in the restaurants it's the don't give you a big bottler of water, you have to refill your littler cup Everytime you want water.
J.
Good quality food, pasta texture is good. It's consistent across branches as I've been to the Brisbane city one too and it's quite popular there. I do think that it may be beneficial to be able to integrate the ordering of pizza and pasta e.g if you are ordering and standing at the pasta bar you have to leave and go to the pizza area to order pizza/salad. Perhaps an app for ordering may be more streamlined with e.g a QR code to scan instead of a card and payment and loyalty program could be integrated into that.
J. B.
Came here lastnight, the only restaurant we could find that's open after 9pm in CBD. The restaurant is so beautiful, they have a real olive tree inside and edible herbs you can add on your food. Lovely manager approached us and gave us some recommendations. Boy... that burrata was so creamy.
H. S.
Always enjoy going here, however be ready to wait, the queue tends to take quite long.
I would even suggest groups of people to not order the pizzas when someone is still on the queue for pasta. I've seen a couple of times people holding pizzas in the queue, to me it just diminishes the experience.
Definitely recommend the place if you want to have a pre drinks dinner.
P. K.
The food was really tasty. However, on Saturday night, you will have to wait in line for an hour to get a plate of pasta. Order pizza was much more easier. You get a tag and wait. Anyway by the time we got our pasta, the pizza was cold.
S. G.
Always a good place to get a pizza or pasta fix. The dishes are a good size. The ability to mix and match your preference of pasta and sauce means you'll always get what you're after. Plenty of seating inside. Can take a while to order and sit down though. The lack of table service makes it a pain when trying to get a group of friends through.
L. A. R. B.
The pasta was so yummy and the service was excellent. I loved to see how they cooked my meal, that was a great experience.
M. M.
At the ground floor of the Grace hotel
They predominantly serve pasta and pizzas.
On a busy night - the wait can take up to 20 minutes just to order.
Seating wise - it’s at your own accord. There are sitting areas at the ground floor where you order your meal or on the first level. Prefer this level as it’s quieter
S. K. N.
Food is prepared right on front of you. Pasta is made on site. The meals are certainly as fresh as you can get. Had a nice time with office mates
P. F.
We ordered the prawn seafood pasta and spaghetti bolognese, it was average, not overly excited, service was casual at best
S. K.
Great atmosphere and food. Highly recommend the carbonara penne and truffle oil pizza. During peak hour, the place gets very busy and may be difficult to find seats.
A. H.
If you're there for pasta, make sure you join the queue as soon as you can as the waiting times can be a bit long. Grab the menu and figure out what you want while in the queue as the dishes are cooked while you wait.
Prices are reasonable and the pasta is deceivingly filling for the size, optional complimentary bread comes as a side with each pasta. Would recommend the Gamberi E Spinachi.
J. H.
A different approach on ordering Italian classics. Great atmosphere with good pizza, pastas and antipasto. Food is well priced and portions are good. I also like having fresh potted herbs on the tables, it's a nice touch. If the wait time was a little lesser it may have even scored 5 stars, but still worth giving a go.
H.
Can’t decide between pizza and pasta? Why not have both! Vapiano has a live pasta counter, you can customise from the type of noodle to the additional Parmesan. The food is prepared in front of your eyes with really friendly chefs. They do have some great pizzas as well and a great bar! The concept of this restaurant is really cool. You get handed a Vapiano Card which records all your purchases and you need to pay once you leave.
d. s.
Their fresh pizzas are to die for, i've hardly come across pizzas so good ! Their live pastas are amazing, best is when you look at the chefs using both their hands while cooking. The ambience is so alive and energetic. Just make sure you are in line for the pastas on time.
A. B.
Amazing Italian food and atmosphere with nonusually ordering but great concept and all staff is so friendly and kind. Food was delicious and it was enjoyable time there.
k. 9.
Had a wonderful experience here at Vapiano. The ravioli was probably the best I've ever had. I'll be back 100% and quite reasonable price. 5/5 ⭐
P. H.
It's one of the best Italian restaurant in sydney... It's a self service thng here, where you can get to see the staff preparing your food... They have lot of vegetarian and vegan options which we loved... The staff here is lovely.. The ambience is quite good and the food is amazing... The only negative can be it's difficult to find a parking here.. So if u plan to visit this place opt for a public transport... It's quite near to wynyard and town hall Station
A. T. S.
Great for large groups, decent food. Safe choice.
S. D.
A hive of activity, a great vibe, friendly staff, great Italian food. Ideal catch up for drinks, quick and easy food at really good prices. Check it out
M. L.
Such a hip place. Stalks of oregano leaves used as garnish on the pizza was appealing to an already flavoursome toppings. DIY ordering system required some getting used to but the cook was helpful enough.
B.
This place is beautiful, very well decorated and lit. My first experience with this ordering system where you get a card and when you finish you pay. Great for the environment. I ordered the Vegetarian Ravioli. The portion size looked underwhelming at first glance but I felt full afterwards. It was flavourful and generous with the cheese. Also came with 2 thick slices of focassia bread. The chef and the cashier both were informative and friendly. I will come back here when I'm in Sydney again.
v. b.
Great quality pasta made right in front of you with fresh ingredients. Really quick service too! It was about 5 minutes to get everything after ordering.
Z. B.
Had an excellent time at Vapiano tonight. Great food, communicative staff and an enjoyable experience overall. Highly recommended!
A. B.
Great Italian food and big serves. Very fresh ingredients and sauces.
I. R.
The environment is relaxing for a launch break.
The employees were kind and polite, they helped us changing some ingredients with no issues. The services was super fast.
The fold-over pizza was delicious but my pasta was not what I expected it, no flavour in the bolognese and practically no meat on it. Despite of that was not bad. I will give them another chance next time.
We ordered the launch combo and paid $15 for the meal with a drink.
Giving extra points for the friendly staff!
P. L.
Really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the restaurant. Was able to chat and enjoy the food upstairs without very many people during the time that we visited (around 5.30pm to 6.30pm).
S.
Decent food. Good space. My friend was served late though they tried making up for it.
Y. A. D. A.
Unforgetable experience, i really loved the particular way u are served by the staff. Many diferents options in the menu, also bar is awesome. Lovely and helpfull staff
V. F.
Authentic Italian pasta made to order. My favourite feature of this restaurant is the basil plants available at each table for garnishing your pasta with. Pizzas, salads, drinks, and desserts also available in a canteen type layout. Good selection of vegetarian and vegan options.
D. F.
The pizza is really good. I didn't try the pasta dishes, but the queue for it can get really long. The sales model is bizarre though and quite unnecessary. Luckily I had a buzzer given to me for the pizza. The drinks are good too. Nice environment and the upstairs is more private and less noisy than downstairs. You really have to get there before 12 pm to beat the sudden crowd or have to wait in the queue.
H. S.
Very nice atmosphere, attentive staff, nice collection of wine. The cocktails are nice as well as the food. I ordered the creamy mushroom risotto and hubby ordered the hemp fettuccine in a tomato base with chicken both were very delicious.
S. L.
The food was amazing, all the staff were nice and polite, the dessert Nutella cheesecake was spectacular and the manager Heaven is the best.
A. M.
Amazing! The restaurant was lively, the staff were attentive and polite, and the cocktails were excellent, as was the food! Would highly recommend.
D. D.
Enjoy delicious Italian pasta and pizza - made right in front of you, at dedicated counters. A great eat in the city, in a relaxed cafe layout. On arrival you receive a smartcard to put your purchases on (including drinks) and then you simply pay on the way out. With fresh basil on each table
A. D. L.
Great place for big gatherings, very spacious and has a unique style for orders and payment system. They make the food right in front of you when you order so it's nice and fresh, and you can pay your own bill or pay all together, shout others drinks and the payment won't be a problem. The only thing is that their is quite a queue and wait before you can actually order on busy night like Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. Came here twice for birthdays and was a good time, nice volume of music as well.
J. V.
Great atmosphere, fresh tasty food, the food staff all look happy which is a good thing these days, fresh herbs on the table to add to your menu, will be back again, look forward to it!
J. D.
A great place to pop in for a quick meal right in the city, main focus on pizza, pasta and salads. Decent pizza bases and all the pasta we had was cooked al dante. Friendly staff, plenty of seating and a good atmosphere make for an overall enjoyable experience.
A. A.
amazing food great experience watching my meal get made by the friendly and talented chefs, a bit of a wait but I went during the week at peak lunch time. Still very much worth the wait. Had the fungi risotto was delicious and creamy. will definitely come again
S. H.
The deep dish garlic pizza was a massive hit and the pasta serving size was quite generous. We left satisfied and will definitely return and recommend to our friends.
L. W.
Just reopened after lockdown, was relaxed atmosphere. Food was delicious and very fresh. Staff were friendly. Great night
R. S.
Whoever is around Sydney CBD must visit Vapiano!!! Such a lovely place to hang out while enjoying a delicious carbonara with a lychee Martini!! Best Friday night with a nice friend and a great atmosphere. The bar staff is very friendly and helpful too so it is easy to hit the bar for more drinks every time you feel thirsty :) had an awesome time!!
T. G.
Very nice place. Just a little bit busy.you can choose your favourite ingredients.
T. K.
Amazing pasta and great service! The staff is very friendly and you can design your own pasta or pizza according to what you like!
K. P.
Dont come between 12-1.30pm on a weekday because the line will take 40mins!
The pasta dishes are made fresh in front of you and they taste delicious. I've tried the pumpkin ravioli and now the creamy chicken tagliatelle with fresh tomatoes, amazing! You also get free side of bread with every dish and there's small herb plants on each table if you want some extra! Highly recommend if you enjoy fresh pasta.
J. S.
Perfection. Pasta was fresh and flavoursome. Cocktails were delish
C.
Ok for what it is. Queues are no fun especially if you’re needing to line up for both pasta and pizza. Otherwise a very functional meal with a chance to customise your order.
N. K.
Best authentic italian cuisine. Will always recommend for dinner night out with friends or even bday party celebrations on top level.
J. N.
Very nice and stylish environment, good Italian food options, decent price.
We tried the pizza and it tastes really good, thin crust and rich tomato sauce.
A. M.
Great price/quality ratio and excellent pastas. You can't go wrong with anything you order 🥰
S. M.
I've been to Vapiano a number of times for farewell lunch/get together/ team lunch. It's one of the best place for Italian food. Excellent Pasta and Pizza. Highlight of this place is they make food in front of you.
I'd highly recommend as an easy and quality place to grab food in CBD.
N. Z.
The restaurant ambience is very nice. Although the on-the-go experience was interesting conceptually you have to wait a long time if you order many dishes.
Other than that there is a good selection of pasta. The pizza is okay.
l. n.
Far better than expected. Great cocktails and food is straight up good.
A. B.
Love this place, its like all the other Vapiano restaurants around the globe, from Sarajevo to New York all the same, same style same food, great Italian all fresh ingredients and pizza is awesome too.
Highly recommended for something different.
A. H.
Amazing self service place for Italian cuisine. A card is provided to you and all purchases are to be made there. There are do basil plants where you could add a few basil to your dishes. There is also another level with additional seatings and vintage style seats. I also recommend getting the trudo pizza if you're after a pizza with some prosciutto
A. Z.
Quite an inefficient kitchen-they cook your food for you whilst you wait, but can only cater to one customer at a time, resulting in rapidly building queues. Whilst this business model does ensure high quality food, the long waiting times make it quite a bore. The food however, is high quality and the dining environment is superb
C. L.
Seems to be very packed during lunch, to be honest I care about the food the most, 3 stars for food, I ordered risotto however it was pretty hard to chew, sauce and flavour were good :)
N. K.
Very tasty food, very glad they have several vegetarian options and cater for vegan options as well...
M. H.
Wow, I cannot get enough of this place, so conveniently located near my home, app experience far exceeded my expectations and is very user friendly with Apple Pay built in. The staff are very well trained in customer service and politeness is incomparable to any other. This boutique little 50’s reminiscent burger bar is a real joy. Exceptional speedy orders and amazing tasting food, very much a 12/10 on the comfort food scale, fairly priced and eco friendly packaging. My suggestion for any greenhorns to Betty’s, try a Betty’s Double with Onion rings and Betty’s sauce and pair it up with a vanilla thick shake to truly indulge. And to the staff I say, top effort guys, you’re doing great and you now have my friends interest and mutual respect.
R. H.
Amazing! Excellent restaurant, great food, relaxing ambience and really good customer service. Went there with my friends for lunch and we all had an enjoyable experience. Staff were very friendly and made sure we have the best experience. Probably one of the most affordable and greatest dining places in the city. Thank you so much.
E. L.
Food was great, environmental was relaxed, the down side was that you have to wait in queue to order rather than order on table and wait while seated.
연.
The atmosphere was good, but the risotto rice was too hard. It was very hot that day, but the drink was not cold.
V. C.
What a nice restaurant, the food was really nice and tasty.
Good option for a birthday place, i had the nutella cheesecake OMG it was amazing, one of the best cheesecake i ever had.
Food was really good, desert amazing and the customer service was excellent.
I would like to add a special thank you to the manager Heaven, she helped our night to get more special.
A. M.
Its an experience but food does not taste that special
Always busy and long wait to get your food
It was so warm inside and almost sweating while sitting.
Z. T.
I love the deserts they had. Oh so yummy🥰
J. Y. P.
Seems a little bit hit or miss--cream based food seems to be executed better than tomato/BBQ based foods. Creamy pasta was a win, truffle Pizza was good, but the dough was a little bit lacking. The meat lovers pizza...the BBQ sauce is a bit too strong for my liking (just a personal opinion) and overall the pizza didn't go down as well as the truffle pizza
p. b.
Amazing Italian place with a style. You will be issued with a card to tap for anything you purchase and the payment to be made when you leave. Being a self serving place, you have to wait for pizza or pasta to be collected.
Pasta is done infront of you and chefs mostly cater for specific requirements. Pasta and bread is tasty while pizza is fresh but quite ok. My fav one is ratatouille. Quite pricey nevertheless filling and tasty.
You can order pasta, pizza, salads, drinks.
M. C. O. F.
Very expensive for the amount of food, also the pasta wasn't that tasty. The place used to be better.
I. D.
Good ambience, good food and friendly staff. Pollo spinach was superb and must try.
A.
The only thing is you have to stand in line to order and wait for pasta. If I could just sit at the table while ordering and waiting for my food I would give 5 stars.
N. K.
The Risotto was awesome! Pasta just ok and I expected so much more from the Pizza 😔. It was just raw Spinach and tomatoes on an ordinary base.
i. B.
Food was ok. Pasta felt a bit undercooked. Staff were kind of indifferent. It was a good experience ordering food straight to the chef but won't be going back.
C. K.
Wonderful fine dining experience! The manager tonight was exceptional.
a. m.
Very nice place, the italian food is maded by handmade pasta that is amazing, i order spaghetti al pomodoro with mozzarella but i'm sure that they put just cheese and not the original mozzarella from italy...(that is really different) also the parmes was not from italy but after all my pasta was a good meal!
Is not the chepest place to eat but also is not very expensive!
V. H.
Nice pasta. Like that they cook in front of you. Pasta are fresh, with free bread too.
A. P.
Great concept, the chef takes your pasta order and prepares it in front of you while you wait. Pasta was very fresh and the staff were super freindly.
Would definitely recommend
R. I.
The food is still exceptional, but the covid restrictions took away a lot from the atmosphere.
L. V.
Their food is absolutely amazing. Prices vary depending on the item and the extras. Staring from $20. The service was friendly and fast.
A. A.
Food was good but service not as good as other Vapianos I've been to. Server did not make any effort to help out when he brought out the incorrect order, making it seem that I was the one who put the wrong order - my receipt said otherwise. Pasta order was also incorrect but we didn't want to inconvenience the cooks - turned out very good anyway.
H. P. (.
I can't believe I haven't visited this place for this long. Having the meal cooked right in front of our eyes is definitely a different experience and I felt it was refreshing.
I was fortunately there out of peak hours and found the idea good. I don't know whether the experience would have been the same if the place was crowded.
The chef was friendly and the gnocchi that I had was great. I loved that I could customise it right there to my liking.
K. L.
Fresh Italian food. Great experience. Highly recommended.
L. G.
Lovely vibe, amazing food, and great design, plus a cheap eat too ( for lunchtime). Well placed in the CBD, making it a highly coveted place for dining. Highly recommended !
A. T.
One of my favorite places for pasta, the pizzas and bar menu is pretty good too. A worthy adversary to Fratelli, will need to try other places but you can't go wrong with Vapiano if you feel like pasta, unless you're craving alle vongole sadly its not on the menu but they have other seafood themed pasta.
A.
Amazing, fresh food. Friendly staff and reasonably priced!
A.
Great food, self service type restaurant. Had the fungi pasta, loved it.
s. b.
staff are extremely hardworking. seemed overworked so i hope they are well compensated. bruschetta was sad
s. t.
I wish I took photos at this restaurant but I demolished all the food before I could bahaha. The garlic bread wow. Was so light and airy, I didn't feel sick after eating a feast here. Also ordered lasagne and gnocchi, amazingggg, portion looks small but will 100000% fill you up. I wasn't a fan of the Nutella cheesecake cause I personally don't like flavoured cheesecake, and thought I would give it a try and maybe it'll change my opinion on it but to no avail. Was pretty sad there wasn't tiramasu on the menu (which is why I originally came here for)
J.
Better than a fast food joint, not quiet a cafe or restaurant. Fast service, food has flavour. Would go back again with a group. However for the life of me I cannot figure out why only 3 pieces of bread was supplied with the vegetarian antipasto plate with loads of basil and various other toppings, clearly not enough bread and to share between 2, does not make sense.
B. E.
Nice vibe, good pizza and very tasty pasta
G. M.
Great choice and fair prices.
The place can sits many patrons upstairs. Downstairs is more pleasant. We had an hawaiian pizza and a gluten free. I like thin base but that was extreme. So thin that it was baked to crispy biscuit level. Topping was ok. Nothing special nor high-quality ingredients.
The GF base was thick and overall just ok. Drinks expensive.
U. P.
Today i got diavola pizza and was delicious! I had to wait 20 mins but was worth it, i saw the pizza chefs so busy that i felt their pain 😉 , well done guys, keep it up!! We will definitely come back!
S. M.
I wasn’t a fan of having to stand and wait for dinner to be prepared in front of me, the couple after me in line were able to obtain their food earlier because of the disorganisation behind the counter.
I found the pricing to be slightly higher than a competitors dish and the service was 4/5 stars
F. S.
I had the prawns with the hemp fettucini. It was delicious. It was cooked fresh, right in front of me, by a very friendly chef. I suppose the main shortcoming of the whole experience was the wait; which is probably unavoidable, considering we went during the lunchtime rush.
B.
Noticed that the portion size has decreased significantly :-( quite upset as I loved coming to Vapiano
H. B.
I’ve been coming here since I can remember, but today something special happened.
I a waiting the line for a quite long time, which when I decided to stay and order I knew it would take longer, but the sensitiveness of the manager to approach me as I seat and offer me a drink in apologise for the delay, it was outstanding.
Not sure if the influenced or not but the food tasted better :-)
H. L.
I love having pasta here! It always comes out al dente.
A. P.
Good food great ambience. Nice selection of drinks, especially happy hours drinks $5 tap beer and $30 long island ice tee jug. Had to leave in an hour as was in rush. Will visit again for long sitting...
s. i.
Fresh pizzas and pastas. They have great choices for vegetarians as well.i like that you can select what toppings you want in your food.it can get crowded on a friday evening.saturday evenings are quieter.
D. P.
A bit confusing to start with but once we understood the layout we were wrapped with the yummy food and great cocktails! It is a bit tricky to have the pasta made and ready as pizza though.
D. T.
Had dinner there last night! Place feels fancy and clean. Ordered a lot actually, didn't realize the servings were a bit generous. Sadly there wasn't any room for desserts! We had the Truffle oil pizza, garlic bread, ceasar salad, gamberi pasta, ravioli, pomodoro, mushroom risotto, bolognese for the kid. They were all tasty and the pasta was fresh which I really enjoyed the most. We'll definitely be back and try out the other dishes they have.
Y. C. N.
Decent quality food at a relatively cheap price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Menu was diverse enough to have something for everyone, without feeling like there were too many options (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options were available, with more than just one option per category!). Would personally like to see more spicy options but that's just me. I went in outside of the usual busy times, but the seating arrangement looked like it wouldn't seem overly crowded even if it was packed. That being said, this location is attached to a hotel, so I'd imagine it would be hard to get a seat during dinner rush. Overall I was satisfied with my service and would eat here again
M. B.
Excellent tasting fresh pasta and pizza along with fast service.
Great customer service wwith an excellent unique ordering system.
Perfect for both couples and large groups.
Will definitely return!
L. S.
The food is so fresh and the concept of seeing your food prepared in front of you is really interesting!
H. A.
It was amazing you food the drinks but the thing that didn’t give it 5 stars was the cheese. Other than that it was amazing. If your like going to some fancy place you gotta come here I’ll recommend it.
P. V.
A pasta lover's dream! Great service, great food.
r. g.
Really amazing pesto pizza and have been here 7 times and truly there's something unique at Vapiano
T. M.
Look the food was great and the concept is different to your average Italian. Just be aware of the two different queues for pasta and pizza. It gets really busy but it was worth the wait. Be prepared for a $25+ basic lunch, more if you want to go a bit fancy though they do have a lunch special, just be aware of the extras.
N. S.
Went to vapiano after work to meet some friends for dinner, was my first time at this restaurant and was greeted by naomi the manager when she came over to check how our evening was going and I have to say that it was such a pleasant and professional experience and I would highly recommend. Ps the pasta was AMAZING !!!
K.
Delicious traditional Italian dishes, nice atmosphere for groups and couples. Modern decor with a hint of Italian style
M. C.
Overall a nice experience. I feel the pasta bolognese could use more salt. But the wine was nice, the atmosphere was nice, and it’s an enjoyable place to be. I’ll come back for sure
R. S. C.
Fresh and delicious out-of-oven pasta... Waiting times for lunch are too long though.
H. A.
Ciao! Good Italian food and relaxed atmosphere!
I’m not much of a rating person but last night was the 2nd Friday in the row that I had Vapiano and I definitely recommend it.
Although the restaurant was busy there was social distancing. The lovely lady manager made my experience even better. Well done, guys!
L. G.
Nice Italian restaurant, very nice ambient inside.I tried risotto and it was pretty good with glass of white wine.
S. H.
Always tasty!! They have lots of space inside which is nice.
J. C.
Both the Pasta and Pizza were excellent. The food and drinks all came at once. And the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I’d highly recommend as an easy and quality place to grab food in the CBD
m. p.
Pastas are really good and one of the highlights of this place is that they make food in front of you so u get to see how they make ,what hygiene they use and can see freshness from your eyes .pizzas i found good but not the best , most of the time i go for pastas which are awesome in taste !
t. m.
We have been to Vapianos several times and pick it for its consistency, convenience and price. I think around the $20 mark, a freshly cooked pasta dish seems good value. You can add extras so it is cooked to your liking. I’m surprised that some find the payment system difficult. We just order using the one card and one chef can do two meals at one time. Sometimes one of us uses the other card at the bar while the other in the queue or the dish is cooking. It is a casual fun atmosphere with fresh basil growing on each table. We’ve also had takeaway from here - same sized servings and proper containers and bread.
R. G.
Great customer service and atmosphere.
Nice to see the preparation on the spot of pasta and rice in front of your eyes. The fresh basil plants are a nice touch. I also liked the use of the card to avoid multiple payments, but just a final one at the end. Food is not 100% traditional in my view, but my pasta was tasty and well cooked. I would recommend it!
R. H.
Amazing food, great atmosphere! however waiting in line to order and then wait at the counter for the food to be cooked took away from the restaurant experience. Other than that AMAZING
i. s. k.
I prefer
Garlic Butter Gamberi Pasta.
Its delicious.
S. P.
Pastas were very bland compare to amount you charge. Pizza didn't even cut properly and not even sufficient toppings. Food hygiene not sure. Chefs wanted to serve faster due to long queue with uncooked pasta. Customer Service was 2 stars. Though nice place to hangout with friends for few drinks. However, Food NOT AGAIN.
K. A.
Most of the food was good but the pasta that i ordered had a lot of chilly which is not how a pasta is supposed to be evem if you had requested done chilly. They had also ran out of most of the pasta types ans had only a couple of options left which was a surprising since they use dried pasta and not fresh and should certainly have that in stock.
J. S.
Amazing place, fantastic concept of paying via a temporary card. I can imagine the queue getting pretty long during busy times but at around 9pm it was good!
R. O.
The ambiance in this restaurant was quite nice with ample seating on the second floor. The portion sizes were small though. One salad order is not really enough to share. The pasta was unfortunately, over sauced and the noodles overcooked. The pizza crust was also very crunchy. The women's bathroom had flooded during my visit.
A. S.
This place was fantastic. Great ambience, good music, great food! Will definitely be coming here again. Highly recommend the pizzas and the non-alcoholic drinks
M. N.
The food was freshly made and very tasty.
G. D.
Great place for fresh pasta, cooked in front of you. Happy hour makes it reasonably priced if you aim for that too.
N. C.
This place used to be a solid 5/5 but my recent experience wasn’t that good. Staff still lovely but the quality of the food was nowhere near as good and you don’t get table oil/salt/basil which use to add a lot.
A. M.
Good food. Tha carbonara is not italian, but it is tasty.
K. T.
Had some nice Italian food with the whole family. Pizzas were very nice.
We got offered to try two new desserts on the house. The caramel cheese cake and the Oreo Chocolat Mouse. Both were very tasty and of a good size. You have to try them!
J. S.
Pasta is always fresh, consistent and tasty, decor is nice. Sometimes a long wait but well worth it
R. O.
Amazing food, pastas and pizzas, also coffee and Tiramisu 😋 definitely we'll go back.
d. p.
got a birthday voucher and was easily able to redeem it. it's a good place to do meet ups and have group gatherings. It's nice and looks good on instagram. The place gets fully packed so going there early is advisable. I love the pizzas and the pastas and the way that you can customize them. It's mostly self service so make sure you've got someone to help you pick up your orders.
F.
A lively restaurant with a chic vibe. Food is also great and not too expensive for pasta. The wait can be a little long so try to get there before you get too hangry.
They cook everything infront of you so thanks to them, I learnt how to make good pasta.
Relationship has been saved. Boyfriend now appreciates my cooking.
A. V.
We love Pollo E Spinaci here. All time favorite.
R. M.
Always a great experience no matter which franchise you go to. Food is made to order in front of you meaning you are not sitting around waiting, wondering if it will ever come. Everything is absolutely delicious especially the pasta. My favourite feature of this restaurant it that you can customize the order how you like, choosing what pasta and ingredients you want or don't want. Because it is modelled that way the Chef doesn't get upset when you ask for something like no cherry tomatoes, in fact, they encourage it.
V. S.
Used to be good! Not any more, pizza and lasagna flavour and presentation not great. It was not all the way down to a frozen food level, but definitely pizzas are better in any take away chain. The pasta and risotto, seemed good but in a peak hour you have 1hr on waiting on a queue, we just didn’t have the patience. Dessert, salads and drinks are OK when you can find them. Staff didn’t seem the happiest as well, they are not rude but you can see they are tired of the daily load.
A. R.
Food is prepared right on front of you. Pasta is made on site. The meals are certainly as fresh as you can get. Ordering is a bit complicated with funny cards to pass around. Dishes are tasty of simple construction. Pretty good for a better than average lunch.
b. t.
I miss going here for lunch during work. I don't know why the decision to change the $13 lunch menu was made and now theres only 3 pasta options, one of which is mushroom and its $15.
M. C.
The best place! I went there today with my friends! I celebrated my birthday there and I really appreciate it.
J. F.
One of the few places you actually get to witness the food being made in front of you with interaction with the chefs. You can alter your meal to how you want by adding extra ingredients and selecting your preferred type of pasta. It's also a nice environment. Most of the times I've been there (yes, I've been more than once) it was fairly simple to nab a seat but I do believe there's a time frame for when there's a lunch rush during weekdays. Apart from that, I absolutely love it all in all. The food is superb and I love how they have pots of herbs scattered around the seating areas so that you can garnish your own dish.
What's more is that they have this interesting payment concept. If you can imagine, every person that enters the restaurant is given a menu and a blank plastic card. Picture it as an opal card but with zero funds on it when you receive it. Then, as you make your purchases of food, drinks, desserts etc, you tap your card onto the table surface and it adds a sum to the card. Then, at the end of the visit, you go to the counter and hand back the card where it tells the cashier how much is owing.
J.
Big and spacious. Food is mostly pasta and pizza in their beef chicken seafood and vegan variants. Pasta types are modifiable. The Pollo e Spinache was so good it made me forget i was lactose intolerant. Service was consistent throughout the night. The only negative is the Very long wait line although at the end of the rainbow you get to see your food being cooked for you.
K. B.
Food court-level food and service at dine-in restaurant prices.
The decor is generic but nice enough, and it’s probably a good pit-stop before a big night out, but nothing more.
J. L.
I have a love / hate relationship with Vapiano but I must say that these days, my experience here is declining and I'm feeling more and more reluctant to come back.
Pros:
- Great atmosphere, ambiance, and table settings.
- Great place to have drinks during their happy hours
- Customer service is generally great although in my most recent visit, the cashier was visibly annoyed that I lost my card... I felt intimidated to go back and ask for a receipt
- Pizza is delish, especially the Toscana
Cons:
- The price of pasta dishes... for something that contains minimal ingredients (mainly just pasta and the sauce), I'm a bit dumbfounded why I'm charged such a price...
- Poor value for money when adding in toppings... I paid $4 to add chicken to my pasta only to see the chef open a single packet of chicken and split it between my dish and another dish... I had 3 pieces of diced chicken in total...
- Did I mention the overall price? It's just disappointing to be charged such a price for pasta that's lacking so much. It makes me wonder how Korean restaurants provide quality food with free unlimited side dishes for cheaper prices
Verdict:
- I probably won't be going back here unless I have a moment of weakness when the stars align, the moon is full and I'm afflicted with a particularly strong pasta craving
T. W.
Great selection of both vegan and non vegan pizzas. Atmosphere was great, with a spacious, well lit, and organic mezzanine area above the pizzeria.
Pricing was to be expected for such a conspicuous store outside Wynyard. Was not a fan of the self-serve approach where each guest had to "load" their orders onto a card. This made bill splitting harder, and for a large group of people, hard to keep the cards separate when one of us went down to order for all of us.
A. J.
One of the best Italian restaurants in and around Wynyard. They have a card system where you have to tap the food card given to you when you order food. This is a self service. You can pick any toppings you want for your pizza and pasta. Lots and lots of vegan /vegetarian options. The Ambience is great and the staff are very friendly and polite. The chefs are amazing, if they think your choice of pasta doesn't go with the sauce you picked they will advise you the best option available. I highly recommend this place.
s. s.
I like their concept of freshly cooked dishes and even their payment system of handling out cards which are charged for individual dishes makes it very convenient when visiting in groups and you don't need to split bills. The lunch deals are decently priced and the fresh pastas win over the pizzas for me,personally. Good place for a casual or corporate meal and very conveniently located.
A. c.
I spend a real good moment everytime I go there for donner with friend. Affordable, tasty, clean and neat
A. S.
Enjoyed the ambience, food was well priced and came on an orderly time. Side bread was really soft, enjoyed greatly. Would come back again with mates!
M. M.
I had previously tried the food and I found it a bit tasteless. But I enjoy going there for dessert and tea.
R. K.
I had heard numerous good things about it and I was not disappointed.
Experience:
The experience of watching your pasta cooked in front of you is like no other, making for great conversation. The staff were all really attentive and friendly. I even made some requests such as asking to see the portions of the pizza and they went out of their way to show me. The system for payment is interesting; you get a little card that your food gets charged to and you pay it off as you leave. The dining experience is nice to talk to people with as you are seated side to side and the open space makes the area feel very lively and bubbly. The plants and trees inside the restaurant give a very rustic and natural vibe and it's really great seeing them trying something different. There were lollies at the counter as we departed, a nice touch.
Food: I have not yet had the pleasure of trying the pizza, but the portions for the pasta was excellent. The portions were certainly enough to fill up most people for lunch. I really loved the level of customisation such as the amount of cheese or bread you wanted alongside it. The pasta itself was something that should seriously be considered. With all the toppings and vibrant entanglement of rich colours captured by the canvas of the pasta, there was nothing to fault.
Despite my initial scepticism, I have been converted. A spot sure to please your senses.
M. N.
We’ve been here a couple of times, had pasta, pizza and salad. All are delicious. What we loved most is the house made lemonade! 🍋 So good.
Definitely keep an eye on the busy times! Google maps is pretty reliable and you don’t want to end up waiting for 30 min before you even make your order. We used to come here either before or after the rush hours and never had to wait for more than 5 minutes.
M. R.
A neat experience to watch the food made and interact with the chef themselves, quite different for an Italian restaurant, along with the individual tab card. Fresh, delicious, and served the instant it was ready - no waiters, no waiting! It was difficult to choose dessert, every option seemed ideal. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and round out a relaxed atmosphere. The lines were much longer at dinner time, best check before coming how busy it is.
K. H.
The food was delicious! We had pasta dishes, as the pizza looked thin and sparse - Italian style. The deserts were very good, and overall the prices were half of a traditional fine Italian restaurant. You have to/get to wait in a queue and tell the chef exactly how you'd like your food cooked. That's both a positive and negative, but it allows them to cut down on waitresses and offer very good prices on their food!
Once seated, the tables and atmosphere are good!
M. M.
Good service, fresh food, pasta cooked in front of us
K. L.
A place to have a good time not a great time. You won't complain about it but you won't be telling the love of your life for eternity. Pasta and pizzas are good, especially when on special.
E. C.
fresh pasta is always yummy. try to avoid peak hours tho
R. R.
Really great setup and design. Two floors so plenty of space. You get a card when you enter and all is charged to that card making payment all individual. No figuring out split bills, it’s already done for you. Great selection of Italian food from pizza, pasta and more. Well worth the visit for dinner or lunch.
D. P.
I always thought that Vapiano deserves more love than it actually gets here in Sydney. In my opinion, it is good value for money. It is so rare nowadays to find good pizzas for less than 20 dollars, definitely better than some other wannabe Italian Restaurants in Sydney.
d.
Food very good. Italian basics - pizza, salads, pasta and risotto. Drinks reasonable prices for a CBD venue. However, on busy nights you can que for 15 minutes while they cook your individual pasta dish. Given a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine will set you back 100-120 for two for a semi cafeteria meal that's not a great business model. Staff friendly and food was tasty.
F. F.
It was ok however one of our friends food was sooooo late it was really disappointing. It was almost two hours waiting for his food. However we were given dessert as an apology
K. M.
Amazing, freshly made pastas (infront of your eyes!), great pizzas and antipasto. Really nice cocktails and good range of tap beers on the bar.
The only drawback of this location is the wait times can be long.
Otherwise, Can't go wrong with Vapiano!
R. A.
Delicious food. I am pure vegetarian , wasn't expecting much on menu ,but they made me a tasty pastas .will keep visiting
n. b.
Always a treat. Had my favourite Pesto Basilico with Prawns.
L. M.
A bit noisy as very open. We ordered vege mezze plate and a vege pizza with chicken. Food was delicious except pizza wasn't hot enough as they brought both dishes out at same time. Both meals were very tasty and a decent size portion for two people to share with a drink or two. Excellent value for money and wait staff and front of house very helpful and gave us a discount as pizza not hot enough as requested thank you for great customer service
S. W.
Good:
1) Atmosphere, interior design, many many herbs (basil and rosemary) on each table for decoration or to be added to your food as you like. Deem warm feeling. Nice catch up place.
2) fancy way of payment. You get a temporary card at entrance. Wave it as if it's your credit card inside the restaurant. Pay it off when you leave. If lost the card while staying inside, fine = $200 (or similar)
3) chef cook food in front of you base on your customized requirements
To improve:
1) service is too slow. Especially at pasta order place. About 20mins wait from the time it's your turn to order til the time you finally get the food. Not counting the time it takes to queue first. Pizza is often a bit faster.
2) quantity of food. It's not fine dining. Price for pasta (with a bit of additional meat) would be about $20. The quantity of food would be equivalent to about one deep plastic container.
S. J.
presentation and aesthetics are pleasing, food is decent but there was no table service which I find odd for such a large establishment. queue times were long and orders are added to a card which keeps everything neat but you have to leave your table to make the order and to collect the food.

Always a great place to eat if you like Italian food. Delicious food, funky style as you see the chef preparing the dish right in front of you.
The disadvantage would be the time you spend in the queue waiting for your chef, especially during peak times..
A. B.
Very yummy! Great and quick service today! Penne Arrabiata
M. M.
Very good quality food and very fresh. The best meal I had yet in Sydney.
I. G.
New vegan menu is great! Fresh and delicious pasta and the risotto was so tasty. Loved the cheesy pizza and the menu has so many cocktails and mocktails. Great spot for dinner. Thanks for having vegan options!

Second time coming here. Love the ordering system, it's so efficient. They give you a card where you can tap to order your meals and tap on the way out when you check out. I ordered a pizza whilst my partner lined up in the pasta queue. We waited over 40 mins for our pizza to my realization that I checked with the pizza guys, turned out the docket didn't come out and they didn't make it. Anyways I would like to compliment their customer service, they made one straight away and delivered it to our table. A few moments later a server came around to our table and offered us a 2 free items from the desserts and drinks menu. Even though just opted for 1 item we were impressed by the service here. Would 10/10 come again.
M. I.
Excellent pizza and pasta, fresh, simple and well made! Service was great from wait staff and chefs behind the counter and the trial dessert we got to taste on the day was wonderful!
J. S.
Good food and quick service. Fun atmosphere, bring your friends here for a good time. It’s a bit of a wait during peak time but it’s worth it.
R. S.
Yes it's like a cafeteria but it's simply the best cafeteria.
The pizza, pasta and salads are great. The basil pot plants for self garnishing are great. The self serve Chili oil is great.
These bad reviews are made by people who clearly went on a date expecting a restaurant / dining experience.
My partner and I love this place. She queues for pasta whilst I queue for the pizza and salad. We eat together and enjoy it together.
If you want people to take your orders go somewhere else, if standing in a line for 15 minutes is beneath you go somewhere else.
A. R.
This place is good for intimate dinners. There is ample seating for a big crowd. They have a bar upstairs, so you don't have to go downstairs to get something to drink. You queue up depending on the type of order that you want to place. You will be given a card to use to order and to pay for your order after. You leave the card with them after you pay. We enjoyed our pizza and lasagna order.
A. S.
I have been to this restaurant multiple times and it fails to impress me. The pizzas are ridiculously thin and dry with next to no toppings, it's definitely not genuine Italian pizza at all. As for the pasta yes it is nice and fresh however again I have been to so many other Italian restaurants that have such higher standards.
D. B.
Surprisingly really good vegan risotto, which isn't easy to find in most Italian places. Healthy, tasty and filling.
H. T.
The food is delicious, cooked in front of you by chefs who are chatty and can customise your meal. Prices aren't too steep. However, if you get there much after 5:30pm for dinner, you'll be waiting in line for a while for food. Happy hour is 4-6pm so I suggest getting there early.
Also found our pasta was undercooked- possibly as a result of the burdening queue.
K. S.
They roll their own pasta and herbs. That's their USP. The food tastes good and the restrooms are thoughtfully designed with a hand-wash outside the restroom. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Nifty idea carrying an "order card" around to place the order myself at the live kitchen. Sounds good but it's imperative that the people waiting in line have already picked their item before a live counter beckons.
There's an odd communist-Russia feel in the restaurant but I can't quiet place why that's so.
There a kids menu but the place isn't kids friendly. Cutlery is adult sized, chairs are adult sized. Kid seats are just as tall as the normal seats so there's no benefit of using them.
Suggestion: wash the live herbs before they are kept in front of chef or customers. The underside of leaves can have soil.
R.
Really excellent and unique experience having your food cooked from fresh ingredients in front of you by a charismatic chef while you wait! Perfect for medium sized groups, informal work dinner & drinks, laid back and welcoming vibe.
Polite and friendly concierge and the card payment system makes split bills a breeze. Perfect for informal dinner and drinks for medium to large groups, informal work events and classic Italian food in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Fresh herbs on the tables are a brilliant addition!

Totally awesome quality food. Concept of ordering at counter cafeteria style was a nice change, and having the chef cook to my preference as I watch was a nice touch. Procedure for ordering took some figuring out, but we caught on quickly. Prices are fantastic for the area, and best deal around for such quality food. Music was a little loud as i had a hard time hearing the chef and answering her questions. Only negative here was an apparent bug (roach) problem, as we saw several. I would go back to Vapiano often if I had the chance, and lived in Sydney. Wish Vapiano was here at home in Honolulu. We desperately need quality Italian food, and the concept would work well here.
R.
Great amount of options. Pizza was full on flavor and pasta was always served in large portions. more bang for your buck! Getting the food was a bit confusing due to having to tap your card if when you order food, sometimes they will forget to remind you to tap it so always ask.
N. C.
I was happy with the service in the current COVID world we live in. Food was as expected for any Vapiano franchise. Only minor annoyance was the garlic bread pizza came out at the same time as the main pizzas, which made the garlic bread redundant as an entrée while waiting for mains.
M. L.
Food was tasty and I liked the fact I could instruct chef on the exact preparation. One bit I'm not sure about is queuing like in school diner and standing there while food gets prepared (at least mains). Also when returned to the table with now cooked main l discovered my drink disappeared...had to walk back to the bar and ask for new one (no charge). Not sure what the idea suppose to be with this style of dining, ok as one of novelty but won't be going back.
D. K.
Yummy food with lots of pasta and pizza options to choose from.
S. B.
Awesome food, fresh and tasty. I'll definitely be back.

If you want too eat in and have a cheap dinner, this is the place too go. We had pizza and pasta it was good for its price. The look of the restaurant is very good. The only mines point is that its very busy and there for also a lot of noise. So if you want too have a romantic dinner, don't go here.
M. B.
Beautiful meal, the pasta was cooked to perfection. Generous portions. A great experience.

Looks inviting, but mediocre experience. Visited this place twice Found the coffee and bar staff quite inexperienced and inconsistent service. Coffee was good but no pastry offerings. Happy hour house wine was surprisingly excellent, especially for only $5 per liberal serving in glass . Even though it wasn't busy, the tables weren't cleaned so we wiped them ourselves. The billing system (uses an e-card for each individual) for paying at cashier, was messed up with errors. It's prone to errors and losses for the restaurant (and customer overcharges). Not well thought out.
Seating is not especially comfortable and not conducive to staying a while to enjoy your dining experience.
B. D.
Excellent venue and quality of food! Charge card concept, simply collect your own card on entry, head to your counter of choice (pizza or pasta), swipe your card, place your order and you're all set.
Really great atmosphere, and fantastic food. Desserts are really awesome as well. Finishing up is easy, simply head to the till to pay. Large tables even easier, no need for split bills, simply pay for what you had.
p. s.
If you have a love for Pasta ensure you order it first because it takes around 20 to 30 mins or more to reach your table. Your hunger might die by then.
Ambience is good though with nice music.
D. o.
Well it's a very interesting place. You have a card where it's like your own personal tab which you pay for at the end. There 2 parts were you can serve 1 for pasta and Risotto's and another for the pizza. I had the Risotto which had fresh prawns and a mouthful of flavours, so yeah great but had to wait a long time for it (approx 45 minutes). It was a very different type of serving were the chef serves you at the counter and makes the food in front of you, he asks you whether you want certain things taken away or added for example me extra chilli and no cheese or butter. So really it's only the quality of the food that is why they will get my service next time.
M. A.
Vapiano has to be one of my favourite restaurants and I only wish there’s more around.
Iv been to this and the one at surfer and they are bother amazing.
Pasta and pizzas are made in front of your eyes while you wait and they taste amazing
My favourite is the Gambarri (fettuccine, white sauce, cherry tomatoes, basil and chilli)
Always adding extra basil from the live table herbs.
Reasonably price, decent service and large portions
Bellissimo👌🏽
G. P.
Food freshly cooked while you watch and interact with the friendly chefs. Great idea. Not really a "restaurant", more like a very fancy cafeteria. Pasta was great, as was the pizza. The bar was not so welcoming. Strangely it is usually the other way around!
P. K.
I had to organize a team lunch and I was looking for a place which has vegetarian options since some of us are vegetarians. Vapiano has a lot of vege options so we decided to give it a try. I ordered a veg pizza with a lot of toppings. As you can see from the picture it was delicious. The staff is courteous and the place is huge so you can be sure than you can get a seat during busy hours.
S. K.
Went for a quick afternoon lunch with few of my office colleagues for the first time. The place was a bit crowded. The restaurant provided hot pizzas while waiting in the queue. Menu card and another card like credit card was provided that would track the spending. The kitchen was a live environment whereij chefs customize the food according to your needs.
I tried pasta and I can confidently say that it was the best pasta I have tried in my whole life so far. The place also serves pizzas, lasagna, drinks etc.,
Must visit place in Sydney. You will be tempted to visit again!
G. L.
Good and tidy place.
A different concept where the food is served.
Food is fresh and served hot.
Had pasta ,pizza and few desserts.
Pasta and pizza we're good. But desserts we're not that great.
Positive:
Lots of varieties
Freshly cooked in front of you.
You can customise the pasta as you like.
Negative
Need to stand in queue for ur turn which was a turn off for me.
Next if I want to remove any ingredient which I ticked in paper while ordering cannot be erased and needs to be removed over the counter when you pay. I forgot and had to pay extra.
T. L.
Quick Italian meals in a modern city restaurant. There's an almost nostalgic appeal to tapping your card to pay at each meal station but oddly it works and keeps everyone moving. The chefs are friendly and get your meal right. The food is cooked fresh but only takes 10-15 minutes to arrive. I enjoyed the pizza and the lasagna.
K. H.
Overly creamy bit still a well made chicken tagliatelle.
Edit: came back for lunch specials. Decent value but spaghetti wasn't al dente. High end cafeteria experience, waiting in line with a tray to place your order. Nice enough settings but the set up is not very pleasant, forcing you wait for a card on entry seems bizarre, so I wouldn't bother paying full price.
N. K.
Good place to have pasta and pizza. You get to select your choice of pasta and the ingredients to be added and the chefs prepare the pasta in front of you. Quantity of pasta served is more than sufficient for a single person. I will recommend - for 2 persons - it is better to order one pasta and one pizza so that you can have some variety. The pasta tastes ok, not all that great. And the prices are moderate.
S. K.
Nice pasta and great place to relax. They are slightly tired staff and they forgot to add mushroom as I ordered to the pasta.
A. L.
Always a solid pasta nite experience, pretty cool place to have a drink too... The freshness of their pasta and other ingredients (basil, rosemary etc) is amazing
A. M.
Decent food, but the waiting times vary wildly. The place can be almost full, and the food can be cooked and ready in 15 minutes, or like last week, the restaurant was more than half empty, but a simple antipasto platter took almost 40 minutes to be ready. Second or third time when we have to wait a ridiculous time for the food to be prepared. Plenty of staff working there, the place needs to be organised a lot better.
N. S.
Excellent meals and well priced for the location and experience. At Vapiano they literally cook your food in front of you to your liking. You get to choose your preferred pasta type and the chefs are very friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend coming here as the food is exquisite and it's very close to a lot of other places in the city. My only complaint is that unfortunately they don't take AMEX. Still a great establishment and I look forward to visiting their other locations in Brisbane!
I. M. W.
Love coming here for a good meal, especially the crema di fungi pasta. The truffle pizza is another one of my favourites. Ordering before 6pm has shorter queues and you can get happy hour prices for wine. 😊 Situated on the ground floor of the Grace Hotel, it is a modern, trendy place with beautiful art deco features.
A. K.
Delicious pizza and pasta. This is how it works. Get a card as you enter the resturant, Wait in the queue, Place the order when you reach at the counter and wait again as the pasta will be prepared right in front of your eyes. The card is then swiped and the cost of pasta will be entered in it. Quite a unique concept. It's good to see the pasta being prepared right in front of the eye but it is equally annoying to in for the queue. I think the owners should consider providing table service as well especially on a busy day
U. N.
There is Italian and there is Vapiano!! It is one of the best places to go to with the family. The food is always on point.. and the service and ambiance never lets you down.
H. N.
This restaurant is the best place for dinner/lunch parties or get togethers in general. The concept of ordering the food is very different, innovative. But the food is delicious. Also, the ambiance is on point.
The food is a little expensive than your average restaurant but its so worth it!
A. Y.
Recommend the Risoto!
Both the pasta and pizza are above average.
It is always packed and there are always long ques.
Expect a 15 minute wait before you can receive your food.
Has the right environment for corporate networking and not so much for a date
S. F.
Delicious pasta dishes! The wait was slightly long, maybe because it was a Saturday night. However they did serve side dishes (pizza slices and garlic bread) while in line. The service was good and the chefs cook your dish in front of you, while you wait. Everyone was very friendly.
Y. H.
Great food! Very fun system where you are given a card to order food on at the various stations and then cash out at the end. The pizza is excellent, thin crust, fresh ingredients. Dessert and coffee were quite nice too.
R. S.
Nice Italian food but an odd set up. Noisy but vibrant atmosphere. You get cards to charge the food to and you have to queue for separate drinks, salad or pasta. Queuing always takes forever at lunch because you give your order directly to the chefs. It all just seems like an unnecessary waste of time.
C. P.
Where do I start? You'll have a bomb of a time at Vapiano. Seeing your food being cooked from scratch is great!
Long queues during peak periods so be prepared and understanding. The chefs are doing their ultimate best and it's a stressful job.
Try their bruschetta and pizza too!
S. S.
If you enjoy seeing your food prepared right in front of you, then Vapiano will delight. It's a sure-fire way to make you hungry! There's pasta and pizza along with some great dessert options, and a small kid's menu, too. If you don't like waiting in line, then knock one star off this review, though I think the wait is worth it.
V. M.
Best to go in smaller groups for lunch, it gets busy very quickly and you would have to wait a bit for everyone's orders to finish. There are good lunch specials of 5 varieties of pasta and pizza.
P. C.
Decent service and seating. The lines for pasta are extremely long around lunch time. No queue for pizza because you can wait at your table. Food is decent.
A. K.
Great atmosphere, amazing pasta, highly recommend. Great location in the city. Very well looked after by Francesco!
I. L.
Meals prepared in front of you while you wait. Account individually with plastic card issued when you first walk in. No table service. Can be busy. Mon-Thursday lunch special, good portion size for the price paid. Reasonably flavoured.
F. M.
Freshly cooked pastas and great seating areas! Also the location is great being right in the CBD, must try!
Y. G.
Nice Italian restaurant.
Pizza and Pasta are good.
Pasta will be prepared in front of you.
You can have drinks also.
It has few deserts.
A card will be given to you when you enter which you will have to use while ordering. While leaving balance will be checked in that card and you will have to pay it.
J. P.
Good food, there is no waiter service you are given a card plus menu and you go to a counter and order your food and wait whilst it is cooked for you. You tap the card when ordering which registers the order and you give the card to the desk when leaving and they then tell you the cost a good ldea if there is a group eating and they are paying individually.
s. c.
They took 3 goes to get my wifes order correct and the guaranteed it was good, we had shared my meal so had to get it as take away.
A. N.
This restaurant is like a self-service Italian restaurant. You pick up a card at the entrance, line up for either pasta or pizza section. Your purchase will be charged on your card and you pay once you leave the restaurant. You can see they cook your dish so it was quite interesting experience. Food quality is good and prices are acceptable.
H. K.
Friendly staff, great food (try the ravioli)
B. B.
The pasta was amazing. I love the way they cook right in front of you aswell. Definitely recommend the carbonara
D. T. b.
I really like Vapiano, it is a great spot for a quick drink or a nice meal. The prices are quite good actually and the fit-out is nice with a lot of real plants. its quite unique how they have a 'cashless system' you need to get a swipe card before entering and all the purchases are made on that card. Tip: dont lose the card!!! Enjoy
s. f.
That's a great pasta.I really enjoyed.
C. M.
Food was really good! It’s a cool setup kinda like a really upscale cafeteria where you can customise your pasta or pizza and the chefs custom make it for you on the spot. The pasta line was sooo long though so our friends pizza was ready like 10 mins before our pasta and was cold by the time we all sat down to eat.
J. B.
I'm a huge fan of the restaurant and the concept. I love watching the chef make my pasta in front of me, and it allows for little tweaks if you so wish. It's a pretty popular place so is often quite busy and the pasta experience is the most popular so, yes you do have to queue up but if you aren't a fan of that then order pizza... or just go to any other Italian restaurant and sit down to order pasta.
I've been to this place many times and also their Melbourne and Brisbane locations and I recommend to whoever I can.
I've never had a bad pasta dish any time I've been, nor have I disliked any of the pizzas I've tried and the antipasti board. Price is reasonable for the relatively casual setting.
A. O.
Great Italian food made to order with a nice wine selection, Happy Hour and pots of fresh basil on tables to add to your meal. They also have good quality olive oil & balsamic on the tables. This place is a regular for a good, quick meal.
p. n.
Great, casual ambience. Yummy pizzas and pasta. As it is self service, the pasta order queue takes time, almost 20 mins from the time in queue to when you get the freshly cooked pasta, but it is worth the wait. For pizza orders they give you the buzzer. The rotating tap beer option gives you some interesting beer options
L. R.
Trendy and kitch centrally located restaurant.
If you want to try an Italian restaurant with a fresh approach to service you have to try Vapiano.
To cater for bill splitting, each diner is given their own card whuch is swiped for what you order.
When you are ready to order there are separate queues for pasta and pizza. I ordered pasta with prawns, chilli and garlic on zucchini noodles. It was cooked while you wait. The dish was accompanied by bread. Olive oil and viegar was available at the table.
The dish was delicious and a sufficient portion size.
The upstairs dining area was spacious and although busy didn't feel crowded.
Vapiano is only a block from the QVB building and close to Town Hall station.
I'd definitely go there again.
S. J.
A bit pricey for a place with no table service, but my ravioli was perfect and the portion size was just right for me. The Tim Tam Smash dessert was too sweet, I wish there was a plainer chocolate choice like choc mousse. I'd have the same pasta again but a different dessert next time. The wine list was brief but adequate.
S. B.
Unique restaurant with a very clean, light design. I have always loved watching my food being cooked in front of me, so I will definitely be coming back here with friends. I highly recommend coming on an empty stomach and ordering their ratatouille with spelt fusilli...yum! The only complaint that I have was that the volume of the music made it a bit difficult to hear one's date.
A. M.
A great place to eat friendly staff and great food
I. E.
Good place, good food, a bit busy some times. Overall a good experience.
F. N.
My partner and I go here quite regularly. I love the atmosphere. This place would also be an amazing place if you're not looking to sit there at the end of your meal splitting a bill. This place gives you a card per person as you walk in, so when you order the amount gets put on your own individual card and at the end of your meal you pay for only what you've ordered. Love this place!
